  1. the only real power guv'mint is given is the prosecution of law breakers.   when not enough folks are breaking the law, thus reducing the power of guv'mint, they simply pass more laws to make it nigh impossible for anyone to figure out if they are law abiding or law breakers...

  3. I'd like to see a law that says, if you don't want your customers and your employees to have guns in your store, then you must pay for and provide armed security. Put the liability on the other foot, see how fast they come around.

  5.   Very Good Point about the possibility of the timer picking up the slide going forward.  I have also made the mistake of bumping the timer up against something and it picking that sound up.   After having the shooter unload and show clear, I like having the scorekeeper Call Out the time as I show the timer to them.  That confirms to everyone that the time has been noted before the hits are scored.  Last thing you want is to be walking back for the next shooter and the scorekeeper asks you for the time - - - and you have fat-finger the re-set (been there, done that, somebody gets a re-shoot).   Meanwhile Getting back on topic.......   You have to wonder why anyone would try so hard to cheat at something that in its essence, is a pure measurement of one's individual skills.

  6. I have a friend who sold that exact Smith on gunbroker for $650 about a year ago. I told him to put it on there to get the maximium amount possible. His had never been shot. For $50 you can get a detailed letter from Roy Jinks the S&W historian. This one has diamond grips and a flat latch which dates it in the late 50's without looking up the number. The H&R really isn't worth that much maybe $150.

  7. I recently left walgreens after seven years with them as an assistant manager. I too was subject to and understood their no firearms policy. I carried every single day. I understood that were I to ever need to use my gun that I would be looking for a new job. I was ok with that as hopefully, I would still be alive to look for one. For those of you saying you won't go back to shop at Walgreens anymore, good. Not because of this, but because it is a terrible, terrible dishonest and unethical company that treats its people worse than any group of evil bastards I have ever had the displeasure of working for. There are plenty of reasons not to shop there. They are a terrible company run by terrible people. If one day they made the national news because somebody snapped and went full in postal at corporate headquarters I would understand and wonder what took so long.

  13. I agree completely...   But, it also is our right to stop doing business with Walgreens over their actions... like firing a man who was just trying to protect himself from bad guys.   Free market is a wonderful thing.

  14.   I decided many years ago that I wanted to learn how to fly fish, so I picked up a copy of this: 'Curtis Creek Manifesto: A Fully Illustrated Guide to the Stategy, Finesse, Tactics, and Paraphernalia of Fly Fishing'.  It's a large format soft cover book, illustrated with cartoon-type drawings. It has all the information you need to teach yourself the basics. (Currently it's $8.42 from Amazon.)   I am completely self-taught, and yet I've stood shoulder-to-shoulder on blue ribbon trout streams with fishermen who have paid big money for to attend fly-fishing 'schools' who have asked me for advice.  (I recommended they get a copy of this book.)     I still keep a copy in the back pocket of my fishing vest, and presented a copy to my sons along with their first fly rods.

  16. Exactly! If this is true then I hope they get kicked out and banned from the sport for life. Sad to think grown men would act like that..... How anyone would get enjoyment out of a 15 dollar piece of wood hanging on their wall that they knew they didn't earn is beyond me..... Easy fix though as stated with a timer display........

  17. I’m sure this case was handpicked by the Obama administration to test this law. Instead of using a law abiding family member buying for another family member, they used a suspected bank robber that they claim had made threats to kill cops. http://ww2.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/269289

  18. ROing 201: show the timer to the scorekeeper as the shooter is unloading.  -gets the time recorded before chance for it to pick up slide slamming shut, shot from another bay, etc. -speeds up reset -integrity of having another person verify time

  19. If you are not going to Walgreens due to their no firearms policy for employees then I suggest that you do not step foot in any retail store. I have yet to find one that does Not have that policy in place. It is simply an insurance thing. What we need is a law that eliminates employers liability if an employee defends themselves. 21. This is just my opinion...   I think the straw purchase law should be rewritten to state specifically that a straw purchase is only buying a gun for a prohibited person ,or buying with intent to resale a gun to a prohibited person. Because if the person was prohibited from buying guns, then I could see it as a straw purchase.   But if both parties are legal to purchase and own a firearm, it shouldn't matter at all if one buys it for the other.   Again, this is just my opinion.

  23. The article said they feds were carrying out shovels and weapons - no mention of having found the explosive devices that supposedly justified the search.  Will have to wait for more details but this is sounding a lot like a fishing expedition.  Sure, the guy ran but he obviously doesn't trust the government and he might have run for that simple reason.  That doesn't automatically mean he was doing anything illegal.

  24. Somewhere people have gotten the idea that exploiting people, whether due to ignorance or desperation, for a "good deal" is capitalism. It is not nor has it ever been understood that way. Capitalism works off integrity of both ends. That is why we have problems with so many corporate and government issues. A good deal has to be a fair deal or else it is exploitation. It's like cheating at cards and then justifying it by saying its ok because they agreed to play you and didn't object.

  32.  UPDATE: I called BRO and their tech guy was more than eager to help. He asked a few questions and established that i'd done everything correctly and said to email him with a mailing address and he would send a new one out right away with a prepaid postage for return. Since I wasn't at home I decided to put the group back in the rifle so that I wouldn't risk losing something and that's when I noticed what the problem was. There was a small chunk of foreign (I think) material stuck in the disconnector spring causing the disconnector to engage the hammer ever so slightly. I pulled the piece out of the spring and installed the trigger and everything was perfect. I emailed Gregg at BRO today to let him know what I figured out and he replied withing minutes to tell me that he was glad that I figured that out so that I would have a decent trigger to work with until the new one arrived because he was still going to send it. I told him that he didn't have to do that since it was working now but he wanted me to have the best they offer and didn't want to risk that piece I found having broken off of something within the trigger. Black Rain Ornance is definitely being placed on my "folks to do business with" list because their service was exceptional!

  33. I'm sure in the end, evidence of some kind of wrong doing will be presented. Perhaps he has a garden and they'll find some fertilizer or maybe he has a slow drain and they'll find some Drano or maybe he reloads and they'll find some Bullseye. Any will be listed in their report as bomb-making implements of mass doom and destruction to justify pi$$ing on his Constitutional rights.   On the other hand, they may find something legit, who knows. Just sounds like a BS fishing expedition to me too. Any of us could be victim to this kind of crap. All it would take is one a$$hat anti to turn you in saying they "think" you have illegal weapons or bombs, etc. In they end, we may be exhonnerated, but the inconvenience and cost would still be up to us to bear.

  36. Still not exploitation. Find me a definition of exploitation/exploit that matches this, and I'll concede it's possible I am wrong. By your definition, any product that is sold through a reseller where you aren't allowed to buy directly from the factory is exploitation. In other words, every store on the planet is exploiting you.   It's not at the expense of others if they agree to it, therefore not exploitation. Again, exploitation requires duress on the part of the one being exploited. Our markets don't work that way.   No, capitalism works because it allows parties A and B to come to an agreement on price that benefits both parties. The great thing about capitalism is that it doesn't require the approval party C, you in this case, on the price for it to work. And there is a very simple and effective method of correction that exists here, but isn't utilized because the market hasn't reached that critical point where the prices being charged are higher than what the market will bear: people can voluntarily stop buying ammo. But they haven't. So the price hasn't surpassed that point for the market. Apparently it has for you, but you're not the market, therefore you don't get to decide for everyone what is fair and what is not. If the market worked unilaterally like that, THEN it would be Socialism. We aren't quite there, yet.   By definition you can't agree to be cheated, therefore there is no ethical problem of which the seller needs to be cleared.   If I tell you my price up front, you agree to it, and I actually charge it, where was I dishonest? How were you cheated?

  40. Well, I've got a bunch of 200 grs. to shoot up in something. Part of the reason I bought this gun. I might mention I'm not a fan of the original  " ribber" grips. All replaced with Hogue finger grooved. The ribbed grips probably do reduced felt recoil, but they also shift the gun in my hand after 2-3 shots. I'll save the heavy lead for the Magnum cases.

  41. carbine (/ˈkɑrbiːn/ or /ˈkɑrbaɪn/),[1] from French carabine,[2] is a long arm but with a shorter barrel than a rifle or musket. Many carbines are shortened versions of full length rifles, shooting the same ammunition, as opposed to stand alone designs with generally lower powered ammunition.

  42. Sidewinder, please post a link to what you read.   My understanding is Uncle wrote nephew a check with the notation "Glock 19 handgun" on it BEFORE nephew, who was not law enforcement BTW (his creds had already expired) yet was stil able to buy blue label, went and bought the firearm.   How is that not a straw purchase?   These two morons probably spent untold thousands of dollars to save a hundred bucks.

  44.   It's absolutely nothing like cheating at cards. It's as much like cheating at cards as it is like a twin-turbo V8. Not the same ball park, not even the same sport.   For person A to exploit person B, either person B has to be an unwitting participant in the deal or some sort of coercion must be used. If I ask $1,000,000,000 for a brick of .22 ammo, you have two choices: You can say, "Sure, that's a fair price," and pay it, in which case we are both happy because I got $1,000,000,000, i.e. something I wanted, and you got a brick of .22 ammo, i.e. something you wanted. Win, win. The other option is, you can say, "That's too much," and walk away. In that case, you're happy because you didn't pay more than what you wanted and I'm happy because I didn't accept less than I wanted. In neither case are you an unwilling participant no did I in any way force you to do something you didn't want to do.    So where exactly is the exploitation? If the market wouldn't bear the prices, vendors couldn't charge it. Just because YOU don't want to pay a price doesn't mean it's too high. Obviously there are tons of people that disagree. I haven't bought ammo in a couple of years because I agree with you. But nobody is exploiting me either way.

  45. Accuracy has more to do with the ammo than the quality of the barrel. You can take the best barrel in the world and if you shoot crappy ammo through it will not be accurate. On the other hand you can take almost any barrel and get excellent accuracy if you find ammo it likes or hand load ammo for it.   Shooter experience also has a lot to do with it but 90% of the accuracy comes from the ammo.
