Tasers don't always work. There is no way that I would stake my life on a Taser. I personally have had numerous instances where Tasers were totally ineffective. Either a prong missed, didn't penetrate clothing, deflected by a zipper or button, prongs too close together, etc. It is purported that Brown fought with the officer and struggled with him over the officer's handgun. The officers eye socket, (skull fracture/serious bodily injury) was allegedly broken during this fight, almost certainly obscuring his vision and possibly causing other physical issues. Brown, a man the size of a NFL lineman, roughly 6'4" and 300 lbs, came toward the officer to re engage. I am sure that the officer was thinking Brown was going to take his gun and kill him with it. This scenario does not even put Brown's friend, Dorian Johnson, into play. If Brown tackled the officer and held him down, Johnson could have easily disarmed the officer. Brown could have fled after the initial fight but he didn't. He chose to get back into the fight and it cost him his life. I am not a small guy but Brown is about 3" taller than me, weighs about 65 lbs more than me and is less than half my age. If I were in the same scenario, Brown had fractured my skull and tried to disarm me. I would probably not allow him to return to the fight because he probably would kill me. I would not expect anyone to take a severe beating, causing serious bodily injury, and not defend themselves.5 points

Actually, I think it isn't wood. I believe it probably is a colored polymer furniture set to designate a shotgun that is to only be loaded with less lethal rounds (sandbags, blocks) probably orange but the lights are making it appear pink.5 points

If her owners actually gave a crap she would not be running free waiting to get hit and die a miserable death. If you can't keep her then try to find her a loving home. Plenty of pitbull rescues around that would eb willing to help. Do not take her to any animal center because the vast majority do not try to adopt out pitbulls, even if they are perfect dogs, and often euthanize then as soon as possible. You will be surprised at how loving and loyal these dogs are.4 points

All the positioning, windbaggery, and pronouncements that are being made by the political class with the various speeches, "investigations" and political machinations around ferguson have absolutely nothin to do with the truth and justice, and everything to do with political opportunism... The democrat plantation owners have created this economically challenged non-family tribe of folks, have voluntarily incarcerated them in a ghetto thru promises of "free stuff" to contain them, and they are working them to use them to their best effect...That use: "To be a megaphone to amplify the "we be put down by the man too long", "whitey's mean and uses excessive force on us", and "whitey is a killa" mantras... The "tribe" has already decided that whitey is guilty; and the facts be dammed... They ain't interested in facts.... They are interested in a "whitey" being made to pay for the heinous crime of defending his life against a monstrous, drug besotted, hooligan that has been terrorizing his own neighborhood.... The grieving family members cant bring themselves to face the truth of this matter, anymore than Trayvon's family could... They simply cannot accept the truth that these 'kids" were, in fact, dangerous thugs... Nixon and those surrounding him in the political class are no better nor no worse than any of this current crop of Democrat plantation masters...They are just playin this bunch of "children of lower estate" like a violin...The rest of the state be dammed... I say if the people of Missouri and St Louis county want to put up with this; let it be.... Keep electing these sons of b*#ches... All they want to be is to be at the top of the fiefdom wielding all the power and everybody else can be everybody else... They care nothin about the law and everything about being in power and being the last word on everything... We are devolving into 'third world" status at many locations in this country, with most of it centered in the large population centers in the blue states... The Obama administration and these state democrat plantation masters have done more to destroy the rule of law in this country over the last few years than any other group has in the last sixty or so... I fear the truth of this matter will never come out due to the fact that those "investigating" it are sworn politicos who see the law as nothing more than a weapon against your political enemies and a tool to further their political interests ALA the Rick Perry/Tom DeLay thing... My offhanded guess is that the truth aint gonna mean much in this one... I hate it for all involved, but i fear it's the truth.... I believe that the only chance this poor policeman has is in the federal court... This one will truly be one to watch... The real losers here are the people of Ferguson and the rest of Missouri in general... The ones squalling for justice just want revenge; the ones that vote to keep these sons of b*#tches in office are believin the lie... The casualty of all this is the murder of "equal justice under the law"; which we can quibble about a bit; but has pretty much been the norm up until recently... leroy4 points

At the point were an attempt was made to take the officer's sidearm, a deadly threat situation against the officer had taken place. A taser is used to gain compliance - - - not to defend an officer from dealth.4 points

This is a case of getting all the justice you can afford. The Judge that denied her pre-trial diversion is the same Judge that approved it for Ray Rice after he knocked his wife unconscious and dragged her into an elevator; he was charged with aggravated assault. Let’s review… no intent, no violence= no pretrial diversion; Intent, violence= pretrial diversion. So what’s the difference? Money. I’m sure the Baltimore Ravens could afford a better attorney. The entire black community is up in arms and protesting because a cop shot a criminal that had just robbed a store and assaulted the owner, while this poor woman is being railroaded by the system. Our society is truly is bad shape.3 points

Picked up 8-11-14 from Tennessee Gun Country. Picked up some Federal white box ammo, 230gr ball. Shot it right after purchase, liked it, got dies, brass, primers and some Hornady 230gr XTPs and Magnus 215gr LSWCs. Been reloading and shooting some more Federal white box to get more brass for reloading. The Magnus bullets make me really happy, they make such neat "big" round holes in the target. I have found another caliber to reload, I am having so much fun with this Glock! Tennessee Gun Country gives LEO, Military/retired a good deal plus the Glock discount. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!2 points

Yeah, I can't wait to see what he weighs, mainly because my wife said "Ohhhh he's only gonna be about 40-45 lbs max". I bet her that he would be 60-70, but my age is showing and I can't remember what I bet her LMAO! I know she would have died in a day or two had they not seen her. She was so scrawny, scared, and helpless. Trust me when I say, we did not need or want another dog, but we love her and glad to have her here with us!2 points

The details of exactly what happened are sketchy and in dispute. What is not in dispute is that there was an altercation and a shot was fired in the car. I would guess that the Officer was scared to death and was in fear of his life. You can’t turn that off in a second. The other thing that is not in dispute is that the dead perp just committed a robbery and assaulted the store owner. So should we care that this criminal is dead? We should have no more concern for him than he had that he might injure or kill the store owner. I sincerely hope they don’t try to make an example out of this Officer for the sake of trying to keep other criminals from looting stores. (Stores that may well be owned by blacks or others that had nothing to do with what a cop did.)2 points

I couldn't decide whether to put this in handguns or gunsmithing, please move if wrong place. Anyways, i just finished up Mr. Garthwaite's 1911 course that he offers (course info here http://www.garthwaite.com/services/classes.php). I thought I'd do a quick write up on my impressions of the course. I'll add a couple pictures as well. (I want to apologize for my crappy picture taking skills as well). It was a 5 day course which included range time. I also apologize, I am typing this on my phone so bear with me with mistakes, autocorrects, and the like. To begin with, I was impressed with the course, and would recommend it to anyone who can afford it and wants to learn More about a 1911. When we got to his shop, he show us a couple slide shows to get started then put us at our benches. There were 5 of us in the class, so he was able to help each of us individually. We were each given a standard Springfield mil spec 1911 which Mr. Garthwaite likes to use because they have a good forged frame and slide. The class ran from Monday to Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30-5:00 with a lunch each day at 12. We began with Jim showing us how he disassembles and reassembles a 1911. and with that I was already learning tricks. He removes the entire slide first rather than the bushing and recoil spring first so as to be able to twist the bushing in the middle of the barrel to help prevent wear of the bushing to barrel fit. We then sat down and disassembled and reassembles the 1911s until we were comfortable enough with it to do it easily. From there the first thing we did was fit a Kart match barrel. He showed us how he fit his barrels (and helped speed the process for us by milling off about 3/4 of the material that would have otherwise been filed). We then cut the lugs on the barrel as well. Next we fit triggers and new hammer sear and disconnector. All of which were made for mr. Garthwaite to his specs. At the same time he showed us how to do a trigger job using a jig and stones. His parts were wire EDMed so well that no tuning was needed. I do feel confident after him teach us that I could do a trigger job with the jig he used. Fitting the trigger was a simple task that was done by draw filing the oversized trigger too and bottom until it fit correctly. Next we worked on fitting the grip safety. He showed us his file techniques for fitting followed by sandpaper. My arbor that I was using to hold the frame did not have a clamp to hold the grip safety in which is why the rubber band was there. While fitting he grip safety's Mr Garthwaite did the mill work for the slides, cutting a dovetail for the front sight and cutting the rear for heinie sight. The rear sights we were using had also been milled out to aid in one hand racking of the slide. We finished the fitting of the sights with 65* files (I think it was 65 at least). After fitting the grip safeties we head spaced and slightly reamed the chambers to get it into specs as they were shot chambered. After that it was a trip to the range the next day which was thursday. The first thing done was sight in work. Most of guns shot correctly for Windage, but jim had brought his sight pusher and adjusted them as needed. For elevation jim filed on the sights right there at the range (which had been left purposefully high so they would shoot low), to get them to shoot where they needed to. I had brought standard 230 grain ball ammo as well as 230 grain hydrashoks with which to sight it in. Once the guns were sighted in we got to the fun part, shooting! We started out shooting steel targets from 15-30 yards away and ended up shooting clay pigeons on the bank at about 48 yards. (The guns were accurate). Jim brought out some plastic flat main spring housings with us to help us decide what we liked better. I liked the flat better so went with it. While at the range Jim had us shoot a few different drills, and helped us with our shooting. One of the students in the class was 15 and taking it with his dad. He out shot most of us the entire time. Jim also brought out a commander sized 1911 in 9mm with his gold bead front sight in it, so that were were able to try a 9mm gun and see the gold bead. (I really really liked the gold bead). The next morning (Friday) was all cosmetic work. Cleaning up any tool marks, etc... Since I decided to go with a flat mainspring housing I did the fitting work for that on Friday as well. On Friday he also showed us his techniques for checkering as well. During the day Friday he periodically pulled each of us into a separate room to talk about what we wanted in terms of finishing as there was not time for finishing during the class (we were given the option of a Teflon coat or bluing, I went bluing ). At the same time he asked us if there was anything we would like to have him do that we hadn't had time to do in the class. I am having him put a gold be in my front sight, polish the flats before bluing, checker the front and back strap and the back of the slide with 30 LPI, and flat top and serrate the top of the slide. I should have my gun in the next month or 2 (it's torturing me, I want to shoot my gun lol). It just take a bit for him to get the finishing done. Here are pictures of my gun before refinishing. This is how it sat at the end of the class. (The rear sight isn't in it) Throughout the course Jim described problems he had had on previous guns and showed us how he had taken care of it (as much as he could without actually having the problem to fix). He also through the course would show us things and explain exactly why he did them, for example he put a notch in the slide stops and then explained how it made it easier to assembled the gun again and prevents the notorious "idiot mark". I will try to get pictures of that after, didn't think about taking that picture. After the course I feel as though I can build my Springfield mil spec (that I bought the day I turned 21) to my specs, whatever they may be. I've ready installed a Garthwaite sear, hammer, and disconnect in my gun that I had before the class. I also had that gun with me, and was able to get mr. Garthwaite to put the notch in the slide stop for me. I would highly recommend this course, I learned more in the short time I was in the class than I have learned in a long time. I will update this with pictures of the gun when I get it back. If there is something I missed please, don't hesitate to ask questions about my experience in the course.1 point

I have stuck a lot of bullets in the bore during my experiments trying to shoot HEAVY bullets using the 7.62x25. A single bullet is easy to remove and if often no more difficult to push out than a really, really tight patch. I will say that having several stuff in the bore at the same time is a lot more difficult. I was working with a blowback AR chambered in 7.62x25. It ran factory surplus great. Well one day I decided to try shooting some subsonic loads out of it. Stupid me, I did not confirm hits on target until after the third shot and then I had a sinking feeling when my target was pristine. I tried to just knock them out but because there were three there was no way I was going to push them out. So I took a long drill bit and drilled one of the bullets. Then I epoxied a sheet metal screw to a cleaning rod. I screwed the cleaning rod, with screw, into the bullet with the hole in it. I used a hammer to pull that one bullet out. Then I repeated it two more times. Surprisingly there was no damage to the bore. Not a scratch and, more importantly, not a bulge. The barrel even turned out to be a MOA shooter after the "incident".1 point

If they made one in 10mm, I would dump my G20 in a hot minute. No knock on Glocks, if you like the Glock grip, then the advantages of the VP9 will be minor for you. If you don't like a Glock grip, then the VP9 is a HUGE upgrade for $50 over a new G19/17. Plus it has nightsights. There was a shop on Slickguns selling them for $575 the other day. I suspect they will settle in about $550-560 when the hype dies down. I paid $600 for mine, but it was worth it to have it early. Its gotten out of hand from there!1 point

Saw 7 or 8 boxes of 225 count Remington Goldens in my nearby Walmart at 10 a.m. this morning. I had to take a triple take to make sure I was reading the labels correctly. Then I glanced around to make sure I wasn't going to get trampled by hoarders/gougers. No one but me at the ammo section. I told the section clerk we were witness to a miracle. She chuckled. Those were the first .22lr I had seen in that store since before Sandy Hook. I'm not too keen on Goldens so passed them by. Pre state sales tax price was 5.33 cents per round I think.1 point

That's cool do yourself one big favor though. Buy a UPS power supply for your DVR and your cameras so if your wires take a lightning shot hopefully it may protect the system it's cheap insurance. Also a UPS will keep your system running for a few minutes in the event some turd cuts the power to your home before breaking in Glad it worked out for you1 point

You have a second and a half if the assailant is 21 feet away. I have not seen anything or read anything that would i dictate the distances involved. I would think he had at the max 3 to 5 seconds to handle the threat. Plus he probably was seeing double. Unfortunately both of their lives are over. Mike brown is dead and Darren Wilson will never be safe he will always have a target on his back.1 point

Noooo... he'll get roped in by some dependapotamus and then he'll end up a slave to her and Tricare. I've never in my life suggested this to another man, but he might want to consider going gay even if long enough to get away from her. Currently he can't be declared a common-law spouse if they're same sex, and at worse he ends up with a tastefully decorated house and impeccable wardrobe. The downside is having to have someone else PIIHB, but let's face it... metaphorically speaking he's already taking it there anyway. :D1 point

I posted this earlier but decided to put it in Roman's thread instead of someone elses. I ordered this box of Pmags from DSG and was counting the minutes till they arrived. When they came in, I was going to post a picture in response to a question about whether they came with dust covers. Roman walks in from the side and pops a squat, so I went with it since he is so photogenic  Well in the split second it took for the camera to take the picture, he did this.....And I didn't even know he got excited over Pmags like we do. I'll stick with just smiling when they come in LMAO! But anyway, picture aside, Roman is doing great! He weighed in a 27 lbs today and got his rabies shot. In another month or two he'll be getting chopped. I hope he still loves me after that :)1 point
