  1. The image that popped into my mind was a '53 Ford.

  2. I have been using the internet since 1992.  I had email before most people knew it existed, or could access it.  (Remember that, back when it was called "e-mail"?)  Before the World Wide Web even existed (I think).     From the beginning, I started reading one of the first gun forums, rec.guns, on Usenet.  I posted occasionally, but not all that much.  Then came, AR15.com, which has become such a behemoth that I rarely check it anymore.   Probably the most I have ever posted on any other gun forum was on 65grendel.com.  But adding up all the posts I have ever made on any and all internet forums in the last 22 years, they would not add up to anywhere near the amount of bandwidth I have used on tngunowners.com.   So, congratulations to TGO for being more worthwhile to me than any other internet resource and thanks to TGO for the same thing.   Sincerely,   Will

  5. My widget factory is discontinuing all models of widgets except one and discounting the price on the "discontinued" models.    Was it a strategic business decision to reduce overhead due to poor sales volume on the other widgets or was it just a brilliant marketing ploy to sell more total widgets? Will I actually discontinue the other widgets or is is just a fire sale of sorts because I overpriced certain models of the widgets and they did not sell well enough and I need to boost sales?

  6. Quick way to fix the EBT issues in this country...  Create military style mess halls, if you're on welfare and need a free meal, you go to the 'mess hall' and they feed you.  No TV's, just like it was in boot camp.   Lots of people will get sick of that quick and find themselves a job to feed themselves.

  7.   Wonder how their little ad campaign has been working out for them, to me it sounds like they are desperate to get businesses to move in. Probably smart businessmen and women know better than to trust (promises) from the government of New York.

  8.   Much easier than AIDS though.   Saliva, snot, blood, and semen can transmit it. They just don't count as "airborne" when coughed, sneezed, or puked, onto victim, who can get it from ingesting, touching hands to external mucosa like eyes, too apparently.  Unlike AIDS, almost certainly doesn't have to go only "blood to blood" or "fluids to blood" as it were.   Still harder to catch than the flu, of course, most strains of which really are truly airborne (meaning, aerosol suspension mist of <5 micron particles).   And that's the thing, the CDC has not been forthcoming about what "airborne" really means in the biologic lexicon -- most think that sneezing and coughing, maybe even projectile vomiting is "airborne" because it travels though the air, so that it can't be transmitted that way. Which is almost certainly totally false.   All that said though, all the Ebola strains are poor candidates for any kind of real epidemic except in countries where there are still more folks dying from bad water, malaria, and any number of maladies than Ebola daily in the first place. Hell, a lot of them don't even die from the Ebola directly but from the dehydration/electrolyte depletion associated with the dysentery part of it, something not faced here it you get it either. Same as with cholera, which is almost 100% survivable with simple treatment, but something like 60-70% fatal without it, 'bout same as this strain of Ebola.   Now here, if S ever HTF bad enough for social services and sanitation to fail widely, that's when we'll see all the Biblical disease plagues return, and with a vengeance. That's the part of EOTWAWKI that folks don't consider, and almost certainly the most lethal overall.     - OS

  10. I'll show a few. Took my youngest with me, he's 16 but I wasn't letting him hunt that area by himself last year. I'm in a climber in another tree looking back at the permanent ladder. Selfies, geez, I'm almost sorry I posted this one but I do kinda like seeing us both in the stand at daylight. Same hunt a little while later. We both got does. He was down much quicker checking on his deer. I'm still trying to work my way down in the climber. View from another hill. Same hill, looking down Same ladder stand. Small buck walking in and then bedded down behind me. Now you can see why they can just stop and disappear

  16. Yep for sure!!!!!!!  I use to have a 1990 GMC 1500 1/2 ton pick up truck. I was parked in a Kroger lot and a guy in a 2012 Chevy 4x2 standard truck pulled in next to mine and parked. When I turned and looked back my truck sitting next to that so called basic 4x2  Chevy truck dwarfs and made mine look like an S-10 setting next to my truck in 1990. I have several friends that own new Fords and one or two Dodges and if they did not have running boards and grab handles to get in them I would not be able to ride in their trucks because I could not get in them and these are basic trucks with nothing special done to them. Now they make a truck that makes my old GMC look like an S-10 and then try and sell you on the fact that they get as good a fuel mileage as my 4.3 liter v-6 got. I hear Ford talking 23 to 25 miles per gallon with their ecoboost V-6.  Buddy of mine has one and he has yet to get 13 on the highway with his. My old  4.3 liter throttle body truck did get 27 on the highway dragging a bass boat and 32 without the boat and that is why I drove 314,000 miles and never pulled the heads or replaced the Timing Chain in the engine. Best truck I ever owned. I guarantee you they don't make um like that any more...............jmho

  18. PackinMama hit the nail on the head. It's all about body shape. A spare tire that goes around to the sides will push the grip of the gun out making it nearly impossible to conceal unless it rides really low. Luckily, you can set most IWB hybrid holsters to ride just at the waistband, which allows the grip to be below your spare tire. This way it's nearly impossible to tell I'm packing.   Having that figured out, my problem lies elsewhere. I have a pancake flat backside (imagine trying to cinch a pair of pants tight enough halfway up the outside of a funnel). I can tighten a belt til I can't feel my toes, but every 15 steps I'm tugging my pants back up. I'm about to give up and start wearing suspenders.

  19.   When I take this whole thing back to its roots, which is the severe butt whipping they took from a crazy guy with a mini 14, I can't give them much credibility. They blamed the guns, instead of crappy tactics. Sure, they threw lots of money at it, and got lots of good data. Still doesn't excuse their flawed CYA logic. You show up to a rifle fight with inferior firepower, and then go looking for a new caliber.    And what's this new projectile technology? The picture in the article is a Winchester Ranger. Isn't that just a black talon without the moly? Nothing new about that. I don't see anything wrong with them going back to 9mm. Just kinda irks me to see another government pig that's just plumb covered in lipstick.

  21. I think  the auto makers have not had as much concerns over appearance as much and they have zeroed in on accessories and what new magic options they can come up with for the car to do on it's own. Like stop it if your not paying attention, warning your drifting out of your lane. telling you there is a car in your blind spots and so on and so forth. I noticed Chevolet has just began advertising their own Wi-Fi in their GM vehicle including their trucks.............jmho

  22. Well my buddy and his wife are not exactly strangers to her. They have been neighbors for about 3 years and will have get together's  and cook outs on the patio's since they are on ground level. She doesn't mind bragging about what she gets in the way of help from the Government in paying her bills. She says her boyfriend is a bouncer at some fancy bar in down town Nashville and that is why he is gone till middle of the night. So no she does not shout out her personal business but she does not mind telling friends what she gets. I have heard her talk about it while being invited to the grill outs. Her boyfriend is paid in cash so his income is not included in their household finances. I have seen him  take a wad of money out of his pocket to give her to go get more beer at one of the cook outs and all I can say is bouncers job pays really good cause he roll of a Ben Franklin from a wad of them and handed it to her and my buddies wife rode along. The girl does not mind bragging to my buddies wife about how she lives.  Hope this answers your question about how we know about her personal business. And I don't take it personal at all Links. I just listen to people who love to brag about their free rides...........jmho

  24. OP, suggest that you take a look at the following:   1. Pick up a "real" fighting handgun, chambered in 9mm or better.  Since you like M&P's, the choice should be obvious.  Here's one:   http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=209301   2.  A good weaponlight > laser.  Having said that, Surefire > other light brands.  Their X3000U is the gold standard in a dedicated weaponlight:   http://www.amazon.com/Surefire-Ultra-Ouput-Weaponlight-Black/dp/B00999CBJ6   3.  For holsters, you need only look here.  Often copied, they are the originators of this design:   http://raven-concealment-systems1.mybigcommerce.com/smith-wesson-phantom-light-compatible-holster/   And an extra magazine on the belt:   http://raven-concealment-systems1.mybigcommerce.com/single-modular-pistol-mag-carrier/   4.  Don't forget a good gunbelt, either.  The polymer-lined model is awesome:   http://www.thewilderness.com/tactical-belts/frequent-flyer-belt/   Now get some training!   HTH, and good luck to you.

  26. The life prolonging thing is my main motivator. I inherited high blood pressure, and diet has little effect on it. The only way to keep it down to a manageable level without medication is exercise. I like my coffee and beer, so no exercise also means no coffee or beer. That is a problem for me. 31. There is no shame if you have a streak of bad luck and you really need the help to get back on your feet. That is for sure and especially if you have a family to care for. I get upset when I go visit a buddy of mine that lives in an Apartment complex that is also section 8 Housing and he and his wife pay $890.00 plus all utilities for 2 bedrooms and put food on the table and both drive average year auto's.     Then you look at his neighbor which is a single girl with 3 kids and she pays 102.00 dollars pays for 3 bedroom, no utilities get $1,390.00 put on her EBT card every month and goes shopping in a fully dressed out Hummer with wheels that cost a $1,000.00 bucks each and sound system that rocks the whole truck and belongs to her live in boyfriend that also has no identifiable source of income. Those are the ones that make me mad.   I think everyone that receives Government subsidies such as Welfare and food Stamps should be required to take a drug test at any time without notice. Agents just show up at your door with a person qualified to draw blood and they pop your blood right there right then and screen it for illegal drugs. If your dirty your done feeding off the sweat and veins of the taxpayers forever period.......................................JMHO

  32. As a former FFL, I can tell you that it is not uncommon. When I pressed TICS about why a customers appeal was not responded to, they would always tell me that many of the appeals were either incomplete or illegible resulting in them being unable to be processed. They recommend that the appeal form be completed in the gun shop and the dealer fax it to them. That way the dealer can check it to make sure it is complete and legible. I also had a customer denied at a gun show who came back 30 minutes later and told me they had approved him for a gun purchase from another dealer. I called him in again and that time they approved it. Go figure?

  34. Most of the time it is because of some charge in the past that doesn't show proper resolution paperwork in court system. And charge does not have to be a disqualifying one for TICS or NICS to hang things up, and I don't think you necessarily know which it was either.   Has it been 15 working days, like M-F?   - OS

  36. It is possible to take a milspec trigger in improve it to a point where it is very competitive. A few have pulled the trigger on my 300 Blackout and it is a reliable sub 2 pound trigger with ZERO take up and less than 1/16" over travel. Took about 20 minutes of work but I will put it up against any $200 trigger.   I do not own an AR that has a trigger above 4 pounds and they all have milspec triggers.

  37. When food stamps were still in paper form and not on EBT card they had much tougher rules as to what you could purchase on them. You could not purchase any prepared food, no alcohol, tobacco, laundry soap, dish soap, bar soap, Toilet paper or paper towels. It had to be just strictly food products that you took home and prepared. But do you folks honestly think that is how it worked? People were out there buying food stamps from FS recipients for a 1/4 on the dollar with cash. That went on more and more so they decided they could fix that by putting your funds on  the EBT cards but that didn't help anything because people would go shopping for the money people and buy everything on a list given to them and when they delivered the groceries they would receive 1/4 of the amount of the receipt in cash. I know this to be fact because I had a dead beat step son and his wife  that were sellers and I knew the buyers. Anonymous phone call got all that stopped and everyone did some jail time. I think my step son blamed me for it but he never called me out on it. But we have not spoke since his mother passed away either back in 1997. I do know that it was stupid to make it possible to buy just about anything except Alcohol and tobacco on the cards. I think you can even use them in places like McDonald's but don't know that for sure because I don't got to those places very often. Can't afford them. Once a month I splurge and have KFC and live like a king for a day........ ........................jmho

  38.   In all honesty if we went back to the days when most people had to physically work to make a living you would see a lot of people dropping over from heart attacks because a hard days work would kill many people because of their physical conditions. I made my living for many years with hands on hard work and I loved it. I looked forward to waking up and going to work. It almost killed me when I learned from my doctors I could not do it any more. Not being able to perform my job was a lot harder on me both mentally and physically than it was working...........jmho

  39. I don't believe the myth that poor folks are fat because they can't afford non-fattening foods. I believe this for two reasons: 1. I come from the Honey Boo Boo culture. My parents didn't have much money when I was growing up, but we were all skinny. We didn't keep sodas or fattening snacks in the house. Those things cost more money. When I see the poverty level folks filling their carts, they're filling it with crap I can't even afford. I buy the cheapest stuff I can find, yet somehow everyone in my household is thin. We don't have personal trainers, nutritionists or a gym membership. We've both got a bunch of overweight people in our families, so I deny that we are thin due to some magic metabolism ability that 1/3 of Americans don't have. Most of the people I grew up with are tipping their trailer over when they walk around. They don't have a pot to piss in, yet they can mainline Mountain Dew like it's cool. Not that I care about someone's life choices, I like jolly people; what bugs me are folks who are doing it on my dime, or look at me like I have some magical secret to not being obese that they aren't capable of tapping into. My wife an I put effort into it, and I'm sick of hearing whiny ass Americans complain that they can't achieve the same due to circumstances beyond their control. 2. I've been around the world; to countries without a gluttonous culture and countries where people are so damn poor they can't afford food. There aren't a bunch of fat people there. So unless Americans are genetically different than everyone outside our borders (they aren't), a whole bunch of people are full of crap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  44. I don't own any retention holsters but then again I always cc. What type of handgun will you be carrying?    If i had to oc right now for some reason I would use my Fobus holster. I think they offer one with a retention strap on some models but mine fit tight enough that I would feel comfortable with that, wouldn't fall out or anything and would be hard to grab. I cc with the Fobus some time in the cooler weather if I have a heavy cover garment.   I had a leather Bianchi retention strap belt holster one time for my HK USP40 but I never really liked it so I sold it. It was excellent quality but very large and too stiff and bulky.   Sorry I am not much help.

  45. Much ado about nothing is my take on this whole mess and I've been reading this drivel since the late 1960's. In the end it comes down to training, common sense and street smarts because if you can't hit it than what difference does the round make?

  46. While some law enforcement agencies have transitioned to larger calibers from the 9mm Luger in recent years, they do so at the expense of reduced magazine capacity, more felt recoil, and given adequate projectile selection, no discernible increase in terminal performance.   That's it right there.  Boom.  Headshot.   How in the world was such distilled sanity and common sense produced by an agency of the federal government?

  47. I have been dealing with my aged Mother breaking a hip, and then her passing away, took a month from one to the next. Let me say this, a Freedom of Information request has been made, asking for all communication relative to the issue from Gibbon's Office to the Administration and the Legislative side pertinent to the facts. What recourse we take at that point will be determined by the quality of the information received, or not... However the facts we do have are incontrovertible, there would have been no need to change the HCP card, and if the DHS decided to, their contract with the printer precluded any up-charge for doing so.  The spurious "Fiscal Note" was ginned up, there was no "ploicy" in effect to require a change of the cards. We will see if someone's hard drive malfunctions...   Of note, when the vote relative to this issue did come before the Finance Committee, Sargent had a pain, and had to leave for a "bathroom break" and was not available to vote on the issue in his own committee...

  48.   I hardly think that shooting a wild animal - any wild animal - that is posing a threat of death or serious, bodily injury to the shooter makes that person a 'wannabe criminal.'  If such a threat justifies using deadly force against another human being I hardly think that use of such force against a threatening, wild animal would be viewed as unjustified.  We are discussing options for a firearm to use as protection from such, potential threats not the best firearm for illegal poaching.
