  1. As some of you know from my postings, I am currently in Florida caring for my father. He is a WWII vet and will be 89 on New Years. I am trying to piece together his service record while I can. His short term memory is gone but still sharp on the old days. He doesn't speak much on his service. What he has told me is, that he was in some of the first groups into the concentration camps at wars end. If anyone is interested I will post whatever else he can relate. He has a Bronze Star in his "Army Stuff" As he calls it. Not sure what exactly it's for yet. He says he was in the wrong place at the right time."........

  2. The best, yes BEST, ammo to use in a 22 pistol if that is all you have for defense is the Aguila 60 grain SSS. It creates a larger permanent wound channel and penetrates over 8" into gelatin. It tumbles immediately upon impact if it is not already tumbling in the air. Stingers are the worst choice because they need barrel length to get the velocities they claim. I have chornographed a lot of the "hyper velocity" stuff in short barrels and most will not break 1,050 fps. Combine that will the 30-32 grain bullet and you have what is equal to a 22 short.   Second choice would be the CCI Velocitor. It too suffers from reduced velocities in the short barreled pistols but it also has a 40 grain bullet which works well for going deep.   I have chronographed the SSS in a Taurus PLY22 and it average 790 fps. May not seem like a lot but that is within 25 fps of what is chronographs in most rifles.   Here are a few videos of the SSS in gelatin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GwRgIpbflA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T10BMy6oq0

  3.   It is pretty sad. I've never felt the need to brag about my time as a Space Shuttle Door Gunner as part of Task Force 320 (twice as elite as TF160), Operational Detachment Whiskey. Just having served is reward enough. Our motto was, "I could tell you about our missions, but BANG, you're dead."

  4.   Same way they always do, "Grants."  They attach whatever requirement is envogue at the time to "free" money and equipment. The Locals can't resist, suck off the Federal tit, and then are beholdened. Happens all the time.   I'm actually proud to say that the Command Staff at my Dept doesn't buy into this behavior.  But, that is rare.

  5. When I saw this video yesterday I got really ticked off.  The man impersonating a Ranger is quite pathetic (he has a long and chronicled history of engaging in such behavior), but that isn't what got me upset.  I got upset with how the veteran filming this video was behaving in public and even more so considering it was in front of his son.  Served or not, his behavior and language in public speaks volumes to me about his character or at least his judgement.   I am all for shaming those who seek accolades for something they have not done or earned.  If poseurs gain some financial benefit from their deception, especially from public funds,  then they should be arrested, fined, and made to pay reparations.  That said, there is a right way and a wrong way to shame someone.  Don't be a total horse's ass when calling someone out.  By doing so, you sink to the poseur's level, and you are also creating a situation that has the possibility of becoming violent even deadly.  One might not be concerned for their own safety, but this is a public place, so they should be considerate of those around them.  From the training I have taken/taking, I was taught it was best to remove myself from confrontational situations, not create them.

  6. Another WW2 vet lost.   I did not personally know this man but had met him a few times at Walmart.  I never got to know him beyond the smile,  hi, and thank you.   I wish I had got to know him.  I never new he was a vet.     http://knoxvillenews.tn.newsmemory.com/publink.php?shareid=11f348afd0       In my life, I have met 2 people that fought at Iwo Jima, one when I was so young 4-5 I really didn't understand until years later what he was talking about and Frank Lloyd Pryor that I never got to know.  I only learned about his past after he passed.   Just felt like sharing this.  (I found out this morning before work when I first went to Walmart and they had a memorial right at the door he normally worked at. ) I have to give it to Walmart that I feel they did a good thing to honor him.

  10. A very good old friend of mine just sent me this...............    THE BACK NINE I FIRST STARTED READING THIS EMAIL & WAS READING FAST UNTIL I REACHED THE THIRD SENTENCE. I STOPPED AND STARTED OVER READING SLOWER AND THINKING ABOUT EVERY WORD. THIS EMAIL IS VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING. MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK. READ SLOWLY!  AND THEN IT IS WINTER  You know ... time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is... the back nine of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only on the first hole and the back nine was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.  But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting gray...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit! And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though Im on the back nine, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime. So, if you're not on the back nine yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether youre on the back nine or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!! "Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY ! HAVE A GREAT DAY Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. LIVE HAPPY IN 2015! LASTLY, CONSIDER THIS: ~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect! Going out is good.. Coming home is better! You forget names.... But it's OK because some people forgot they even knew you!!! You realize you're never going to be really good at anything like golf. The things you used to care to do, you aren't as interested in anymore, but you really do care that you aren't as interested. You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV 'ON' than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep". You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.. You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"... ??? You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!! What used to be freckles are now liver spots. Everybody whispers. You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.  But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!! Stay well, "OLD FRIENDS!" Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT!!! It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived. TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN; YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LAST  Do Not Regret Growing Older. It is a Privilege Denied to Many.

  13. He is a very eloquent speaker. How refreshing it is to hear an elected official speak the truth. No teleprompter,  just well prepared, heartfelt words. I can only imagine how much better our nation would be with men like this as our president.

  15. What is really sad is a lot of these imposters, from what I have found, have actually been in the military. Most are some sort of support MOS like a cook or driver or supply. That lets them know enough to BS 99% of the people they meet. But when they meet the 1% who are actually real deal Ranger, SF, PJ, MARSOC, SEAL it is obvious those that lie are full of it.

  26. 25 bucks? I don't think this ammo has been priced that low for over 10 years, so that is not realistic. Prior to the current crisis, I believe this was probably selling at around $40-45. Even so, I think $.05 per round is probably close to the new normal price for this ammo, so I was happy to get a bucket. This is the first of the "cheaper" stuff that I've been able to find in two years. I was able to get a few boxes of some CCI ammo recently at reasonable prices and that was the first I had been able to buy since November 2012. So, maybe supply will finally start to catch up with demand in 2015. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. I will give this vet a pass, I dont know that I could of done much better in his situation. When you have friends die in combat, and you have this POS and many like him take their accolades for a measly 10% off their purchases and other monetary gains just pisses me off. While I was in uniform, and still, I would have people say "Thank you for your Service" and on a few occasions buy me my lunch before I could protest. I am always polite about it and acknowledge their thanks. But deep inside I kind of feel like poop, because I am home and many of my friends are not. And yes, I still shed a tear at Taps. These guys deserve much worse treatment!

  31. Probably NOT the answer you want, but I load my 9mm with whatever SD ammo is available at a good price after I've cycled through whatever I bought the last time I found some on sale. I probably wouldn't go for full on frangible rounds, but pretty much any quality SD ammo will get the nod if its a few buck cheaper than normal. I do advocate buying enough at a go to run them through your pistol for a few mags to see how they feed and all, but that's one area where your smaller capacity comes in handy. It's a lot cheaper to run 3 mags through your 938 than it is to run 2 out of my M&P :D

  32. He doesn’t have the authority to make them do it. I’m sure it’s voluntary. Some Chiefs and Sherriff’s will do it and some will tell them to pound sand. I think on a voluntary basis it would be great; some cops buy their own.

  46. Doesn't this kinda sound like the same thing that a governor of a state that's initials are T and N said about constitutional carry the LAST time he got elected???? It's an easy thing to say and be true if you never let it get your desk like Haslam has done.
