  1. I'm surprised no one has mentioned little Abel putting on his Sons ring that Gemma gave him when they were driving off to Nero's farm.  He will grow into the life, regardless of all that Jax did.

  2.     I believe in the death penalty. I don't believe in the mockery it has become. Twenty appeals, millions of dollars and a circus. If you are tried and found guilty and thus sentenced to death, one appeal, to begin immediately should be enough to ensure a mistake wasn't made. Death within a year. Simple as that.   Someone should not live life in prison awaiting the death penalty. Nor should we spend millions of dollars on an inmate. Prison isn't meant to be a place of television, computers and video games. It is punishment.

  4. Couple of points....   I had a girlfriend back in the day who was involved in a pretty horrendous car wreck when she was 17. Car flipped and she was ejected. Broke her pelvis in 3 places yet she was able to crawl almost 100 yards back to the highway to flag down help.....Sorry but I'm just not a believer in "pelvic shots are sure stoppers".    My great grandfather was involved in a gunfight in Carbondale Alabama (Mining town north of Birmingham) in 1920...actually it was a rolling series of gunfights....The whole thing stemmed from an argument during a mining strike . He was shot first, but hit peripherally...my great grandfather was tough dude who had been a miner and had served in the Spanish American war in Cuba where he had been wounded so he knew already what being shot felt like. He was not terribly impressed with being shot with a pistol so he pulled his and the other guy was hit multiple times and was dead right there....   After that ANOTHER guy shot him with a rifle. The rifleman jumped behind a tree for cover. Great Granddad yelled for him to "come out and fight fair"...at which point the guy stepped out from behind the tree and great granddad emptied his 1911 into him and pounced on him yelling "you killed me now I'm gonna kill you" (apparently the rifle wound really hurt) and proceeded to cave in his skull with the now empty pistol......after that he got up and ran off with several shotgun wielding assailants in hot pursuit.....they opened up on him with the shotguns and after being hit multiple times he "surrendered". He lived 26 more hours until the wounds got septic and he died of what they referred to as "lead poisoning". During that 26 hour time he was conscious and aware and was able to relate what had happened to the doctors and that is how the story was related in the newspaper... the peripheral pistol shots he received had little effect, the rifle shot was painful but not vital, but the multiple shotgun hits...those got his attention.   So I'm not a big believer in "stopping power" in pistols, not a big believer in pelvic shots or...."seemingly random bullet placement". People shot  multiple times in the "nipple to neck thoracic zone" tend to stop what they are doing and go to sleep. People shot elsewhere...it is a crap shoot and some people will fight on even after receiving painful injuries.....but as with everything YMMV.

  7. I have heard of many people being shot in the head and not stopped. You can stop a bad guy really quick with a 22lr caliber if you know where to put the bullets. I had a buddy's wife get approached by two bad guys in the Rivergate Mall Parking lot on night. She wheeled around with her 22 Cal pistol and pointed it at them. They said you won't shoot and began towards her and she put to fast rounds in the groin area of the first one and he went down fast rolling in pain and screaming. The second one broke and ran. He husband told her where to shoot  and took her out with a shooting dummy and she practiced to where at about 15 feet she was dead on. Bullet placement is priority 1 in my mind..........................jmho

  8. One or two of these I disagree with but for the most part seems like sound advice;   1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns. 2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap – life is expensive. 3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss. 4. If your shooting stance is good, you’re probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly. 5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.) 6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun. 7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived. 8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running. 9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on “pucker factor” than the inherent accuracy of the gun. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. “All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket.” 10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty. 11. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose. 12. Have a plan. 13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won’t work. 14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible. 15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours. 16. Don’t drop your guard. 17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees. 18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them.) 19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH. 20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get. 21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet. 22. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one. 23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation. 24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than “4″. 25. You can’t miss fast enough to win. 9. Those are good but I like Clint Smiths better from Thunder Ranch..............jmho   "Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!" "An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity." "A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'" "When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away." "I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy." "The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental." "You cannot save the planet. You may be able to save yourself and your family." "You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it." "You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language." "Don't shoot fast, shoot good." "If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid for." "If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'. If you're not loadin, you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick." "Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it's gonna be empty." "Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way." "Every time I teach a class, I discover I don't know something." "The two most important rules in a gunfight are: always cheat and always win." "The handgun would not be my choice of weapon if I knew I was going to a fight. ...I'd choose a rifle, a shotgun, an RPG or an atomic bomb instead."

  10. For me, if the primary purpose is hunting, I would go with a minimum of a 6" barrel, and would recommend an 8". I think 10" is getting a bit unwieldy to carry around, but for the right price, I would certainly consider it. The need for length is of course extra bullet speed. For a backup gun only, 4" or 6" would be ok. I think a scope also goes better on an 8", but that is just me. I may be a little biased. Not a SBH, but it is an 8 3/8 barrel with scope.

  14. I predict the gougers can create this false scarcity for quite some time.  Their margins may begin to fall but when you can buy something for a mere 25.00 and sell it for 40, 50+ it still beats most investments and only costs some time waiting in a line.  I won't do it.  Out of pure dumb luck I scored a bucket of Goldens for less than 60 bucks a couple of weeks ago. I traded it to a young cop friend of mine who has a son who likes to shoot for a breakfast at Shoney's.  He got a good deal for 8 bucks.

  15. Yeah the funny thing is if she had a special deputy commission (which seemed to be common at one time as a permit), she would have been exempt from that law.  We need to find a legislator that is very well spoken and respected and can promote a bill to make the fixes to provide exemptions for handgun carry permits in these situations.    As much as I like Constitutional carry, I would much rather use the effort right now to fix the permit system so the people who have a permit can walk around and not have to worry about these sort of problems.

  16. I think the difference is between who is being taught.  For everyday SD situations COM is the best course or action, if you are a trained professional such as a patrolman, SWAT or Hostage Rescue then it may make sense to give them the option depending on circumstance and target.  We were/are taught COM, body, body, head is the string; this is for the times the opponent may be wearing body armor.  The two body shots will either kill or disable a non protected opponent, or take him off balance if he is, with a follow up CNS shot.  While shooting at the pelvic region is effective and may take an opponent down, even kill him it does not take a determined one out of the fight, specially if armed.  Of course many thieves are not that determined, most will run when confronted with any weapon which they feel may kill or injure them such as a .22, but if they are cranked up on drugs they may feel little to no pain and have no sense to stop the attack no matter what.

  17. Whew. I'm gonna have to differ with the opinion on pelvic shots, intentionally targeting the pelvis in hopes of incapacitating the aggressor...   I have had many, many patients with fractured pelvic injuries, sometimes broken in several areas, both young and old, that could still stand, and walk. It was painful, but not incapacitating for them.   A rifle round may cause significant pelvic damage...but that's just a maybe. The aggressor may in fact die..but our goal is, should be, to stop the aggressive action quickly.   Please take a look at the below, from Dr. Gary Roberts, a reliable source, imho.   I don't have a dog in this fight as they say, but I also believe that center of mass, torso type hits, are preferable. The occular window for a head shot is tough, and may well be more luck than skill in a lethal confrontation..again, just an unsolicited opinion...     http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2008Intl/Roberts.pdf     "Shots to the Pelvis

  21. There is also a redundant lock available for around $200 that features both a manual dial and an electronic keypad. You can use the elock for day to day use and the dial if the elock were to fail. We can usually swap this one with most factory installed locks. Also, if you ever find yourself locked out of a safe of any type, we offer professional safecracking services for residential and commercial safes and vault doors AND when we're done, the safe is still serviceable and there's virtually no sign that it was cracked.

  28. Myth: Being shot by anything will stop most attackers. Fact: If you are shooting someone chances are very good that you are facing an armed attacker (armed robbery, Car Jacking, Home invasion, etc.), you and you alone are responsible for your life and the lives of those you are protecting. It is your responsibility to have a weapon that you know will fire and a caliber that you are sure has the ability to make your attacker unable or unwilling to fire his weapon at you. Failure to have that ability and training could possibly result in your death or death of those you are protecting. You will probably react in the way you train. So if you think shot placement will save your life you damn well better have the ability to pull it off in a life threatening encounter. Whether or not the assailant dies is immaterial if he pulls the trigger on you.

  29. Bought my stove there. They had the best price. And unlike Best Buy, they don't try to force you into buying an extended warranty. Two things I don't like about Best Buy; 1) whatever you're looking at, the sales person tries to talk you into getting something "better." 2) They push that extended warranty saying you're gonna need it, you don't know what a hassle it'll be when it breaks. Personally, I miss Circuit City....

  32. Just the same as they would if shot in the groin. I don't think odds are equal that you may hit something vital. If they are already within 21ft of you most would argue you're screwed regardless. If you guys believe people can't move with broken or even shattered pelvis', they can. I feel that I have a 6"-8" deviation of the center line I can hit and still do well at stopping the threat. I would not feel that way when aiming at a groin, especially not with a 22lr as I mentioned earlier. I highly doubt either aiming point will stop an attacker with one round fired anyway, I have no illusions about that. We carry pistols, not death rays. I don't care where you aim to defend yourself, just stop the threat, expeditiously.

  34. I think I covered that.  While body armor is getting easier to get, most bad guys are not going to be wearing it.  If they are, well as a civilian with minimal training you just may be up the fecal creek without a paddle because then the bad guy is probably a little more trained and determined than the average one.  But getting hit with body armor is not fun, and if you are a little guy, or not supported you will end up on your backside.  Continued attack is a very good likelihood, and there is no way to keep it from happening 100% of the time.  If you get a CNS shot, which is difficult, he is down, no matter what.  But with adrenaline, fear, anger etc, it just makes the situation worse on both sides.  Doing head shots at the range is hard enough, but add any of the mentioned things and it just makes it that much harder.  That is why COM is taught to even the most capable shooters.  Now, this is not to say that you should not take that shot if it presents itself, heck I would take a shot at a hand or foot if that is all I could see.  But percentage wise, you are better off shooting at the largest portion you can see.  As far as pass through, I don't worry about that as much as missing.

  35. I hunted for the first 25 years of my life with shotgun only in IL as rifles weren't allowed due to the terrain (too flat).  I have used Remington 870's and 1100's with rifled slug barrels as well as an H&R with rifled barrel all with good results.  I never had over a 60 yard shot because that was as far as I could see in the woods where my stands were.     That being said, is there a reason you want to use a slug vs. a rifle?  While a slug will certainly do the job, I would also prefer to use a centerfire rifle if I had a choice.  I would also say that slugs, especially in a single shot or pump, are not really fun to shoot.  You don't notice it when hunting, but sighting in can be a bit tiresome.  If I was going to get a slug gun for just coyote, i would probably go with a 20 gauge.     I think in the end, you will want to know you can shoot out farther than 100 yards without having to worry about as much bullet drop.  I use anywhere from my 204 Ruger up to 25-06 on coyote and know if I wanted to I could shoot about as far as I could see them.  I am not much for shooting over about 250 yards in most cases though.  Most of the time, any shot I take is 100 or less as part of the fun is trying to get them close.

  37. If a power outage is widespread and lengthy, you won't have any natural gas or gasoline either.   Natural gas requires pumps (that are powered by electric motors and electronics) to move it from the well to your house. Gasoline also requires pumps to get it from point A to point B to in your tank.   I do a lot of contract work for a municipal water department. You would be surprised at how fragile the system is. I've been called out on jobs where they were literally minutes away from a widespread and lengthy system collapse. We always got it fixed and the unknowing public never knows how close they came to loosing water or sewage backing up into their house.   The sewer system is actually more critical to urban areas that water is. If the plant shuts down, very soon there will be sewage running down the streets and a fairly large portion of the water supplies will be heavily polluted. This leads the way for a lot of diseases.

  41. I aim for an invisible triangle formed by the location of the kidneys, and the xiphoid process(base of the sternum).  It's a nice soft spot with a good chance of taking out the thoracic aorta, vena cava, or spine where they are least protected. Hitting the liver where it peeks from under the rib cage isn't a terrible byproduct either. I used to aim higher as that was how my grandfather instructed me, but have changed the pattern slightly lower after seeing just how tough the sternum can be in the OR.

  44. An excellent idea, especially to do during the winter to test the capabilities of ones own preparations. The military performs exercises all the time to ensure concise reaction to specific situations, we as preppers should be doing just the same. It's why I'm going to attend several tactical courses this coming year and "try" to prolong or forgo any firearms purchases and just invest in ammo and training as I've never had any formal weapons training at all. I'm familiar with the concepts and ideas but still need some, well maybe alot, instruction.

Surprise, surprise it shows up on my porch one day. Why? Because our postal workers never scanned it when it was picked up, nor at any of it's stops. I've dealt with PA's customer service a couple of times. I doubt very highly they would tell you that they shipped it on the phone when it wasn't in stock. They've bent over backwards to help me both times. I've got no stake in the matter, but as I said...I'd be willing to bet.
