  3. These issues seem to be centered around the same inner city areas. As police stop being proactive in these areas the population will just be screaming for more of them. I do feel sorry for good cops in these areas.

  4. Automatic weapons and an armored van, multiple suspects in multiple locations? I’m guessing it will turn out to be one angry man, with semi-auto weapons, in a van acting alone. It wasn’t too well planned or thought out.

  10. THE STORY OF MY GUN………….. * Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my Remington 30.06  right in the doorway.  I left 6 cartridges beside it, then left it alone  and went about my business.   While I was gone, the mailman delivered my  mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked  her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign  near the front of my house. After about an hour, I checked on the gun.  It was still sitting there,  right where I had left it.  It hadn't moved itself outside.  It  certainly hadn't killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it  had presented to do so. In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself. Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the hype by the Left and the  Media about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people.  Either the  media is wrong or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world. The United States is 3rd in Murders throughout the World.  But if you  take out just 4 cities: Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC and New Orleans,  the United States is 4th from the bottom, in the entire world, for Murders. These 4 Cities also have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the U.S.  ALL  4 of these cities are controlled by Democrats.  It would be absurd to  draw any conclusions from this data -right? Well, I'm off to check on my spoons.  I hear they're making people fat.

  11.   No, they would be fine under this particular possible change in CFR, even assuming the "permanently affixed" interpretation stood. It will take more than this to change the whole classification of all of them (see below).   Yes, but we're only talking about a change to CFR, not to USC. The CFR is the explanation in real world terms for the USC, and the gun related parts are already fraught with more "interpretation" than most -- no legislation is required to "re-interpret" them, just the appropriate proceedure from the department of enforcement, as is the case here.   I really think this one may not fly. After all, this isn't even BHO's incentive, just some already existing low hanging fruit he could grab as he swings for the fence on anti-gun stuff over the next 500 days.   What I think could really get traction in this area is a "re-interpretation" of the "designed, made, and intended to fire ...when held in one hand" part in the USC handgun/pistol definition. Don't think there's time in the rule change procedure for BHO to get this done (I could be wrong), but it's certainly something Hillary would have plenty of time to run through the channels and get implemented.   - OS

  12. Great piece of family / US history EssOne.  Thanks for sharing it.   I realize more each day what we lost by not researching and recording our family's history while those that lived it were still here. For some reason many peoples' interest in family seems to develop later in our lives.  For those that still have family elders with you I strongly encourage you to follow EssOne's example and save your history while the knowledge is still available.  Sure wish that I had.

I wouldn't jump in.  Unless I'm attacked, or there is a danger of serious injury/death, I'm staying out.  Yeah, the lawsuit aspect is valid, but it's really none of my business, and separating two fighting women is asking for trouble.   Besides, they both look like they can use the exercise a fight brought.

  17. Great story and fascinating history lesson.   Your parents (like my grandparents and parents) clearly came from a generation that just did whatever they had to do to survive, without expecting anyone else to take care of them. Good lessons there for a bunch of folks today.   Thanks for sharing your story with us!

  18. My wife and I went on a trip to Savannah Georgia this week. We were looking at a World War Two monument there when a little girl and her mother walked up. The little girl looked up and read curiously...."World War Eleven." :ugh: What really bothered me is that her mother heard this and never corrected here. I don't suspect she knew any better either. This country is in trouble folks.

  19. Hey Luke I watch Waters go out and I almost cry because of the stupidity I hear, like when did Columbus discover America and get answers like 1944. There is a remedy to this though and I am proud to say my son and daughter-in-law will start home schooling our 2 oldest grand kids this year. They too are fed up with the crazy common core crap and the history that is not taught. What boils my blood is that the left has somehow gotten the authority to "change" history. It makes as much sense as them thinking they can change the climate, or is it the weight of the money in our wallets that they are really after. I believe it is a simple CONTROL issue and I ain't real good at being controlled, just ask my wife!!

  20. Great read EssOne. Thanks. Your dad reminds me of my grandfather. It's funny that with his 7th grade education he would be considered a mechanical engineer by today's standards.

  21. I bet he can't do that with a real gun, especially a gun with a much shorter slide like most carry guns. Probably not enough area to rack a gun like a Shield or other compact gun. The gun he is using is super easy to rack because it is longer and is a "match" pistol which typically requires a lot less force to rack.

  25. We have several chickens and a couple of guinea's. The guinea's lay these eggs that are quite a bit smaller than the chickens, and the shells are like concrete, very hard to crack. Inside, it's almost all yolk. The chickens always lay in the nesting boxes, but the guineas lay wherever they feel like it. We watched one lay an egg while walking across the concrete floor in the barn. Didn't even bother to squat, just dropped it where she stood. The egg fell onto the concrete floor with a plop and never broke. In fact, it may have chipped the floor.  :)   I made a waterer out of a 5 gallon bucket and installed some chicken nipples in the bottom. I hung it up from the roof inside the coop, but the stupid chickens completely ignored it. In fact the outside pan I had water in dried up, and they were dying of thirst when I put them away in the evening. I even tried putting their beaks up to the nipples to show them how the water comes out, but they acted like I was trying to kill them.   My plan was to run water with a hose into the coop, and install a toilet valve in the bucket to keep it at a set level. For now, we just use those round chicken waterers and hang them from the roof of the coop with a rope. We hang them just low enough for them to drink from. It keeps them from standing on the waterer and pooping in it.

  28.     OR...if you wanna buck a trend and get this thread back on track....   I have a .308 Survivor Handi rifle.  I could send it to Jess at JES Reboring.  He can rebore a 308 chambered barrel to 338 [or 358 for that matter] for $225 returned.  HOW he does it for that price is beyond me.  I've seen his work, his rifling is AWESOME and his rebored rifles shoot extremely well.  You don't even have to remove the action on most guns.....but I digress.  Rebore the 308 to 338 and add another Boyd's stock like this.  In a world of tacticool tacticrap, it would be a north bound train on a south bound track.

  35. I will make sure to find me a knife fighting class before I use one for self defense. Matter of fact I don't think I have enough gun training to carry. After all being in the military, being in law enforcement as well as carrying a firearm for work in hostile environments probably isn't enough for your requirements. Personally the ONLY people who should not be allowed are those who have a proven VIOLENT history. I don't care if someone is a felon or bat#### crazy as long as they are not violent they should be able to use any means necessary, including fully automatic grenade launching machine guns, to protect themselves even if they do not have a single second of training. You, my friend, are the worst kind of gun owner. One that wants to limits other gun owners for their own reasons.

  39. Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not blame others. But, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was not the senior citizens who took   The melody out of music, The pride out of appearance, The romance out of love, The commitment out of marriage, The responsibility out of parenthood, The togetherness out of the family, The learning out of education, The service out of patriotism, The religion out of school, The Golden Rule from rulers, The nativity scene out of cities, The civility out of behavior, The refinement out of language, The dedication out of employment, The prudence out of spending, or The ambition out of achievement, And we certainly are not the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others! Does anyone under the age of 50 know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner? Just look at those Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts! And, unless many of our younger generation learn to count in the absence of computers and calculators, they will be back to counting on fingers and toes. Remember.......Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what in the world happened.

  40. I believe the importance of history is underrated in schools anymore. I remember even in the early 90's it was kind of a joke class. Sad because it was one of my favorite and best subjects.

  41.   I've been shot at, come under mortar fire, driven down roads with IED's , and have been audited by the IRS...but when I see a snake, I jump on top of something or run like a complete bitch because shooting them never seems to be an option.  I'm confident in my manhood and if it wasn't for them eating disease carrying rodents, I'd want all snakes eradicated.

  42. MObile 1 synthetic.  I bought two quarts of some oddball weight (0w-15) at Walmart a few years ago because they were red tagged half price.  For about $10 I have a half gallon of REALLY good lube and I use it on guns and my presses.  Unless I pull a full on Caster and spill it, it will last for whats left of my life.

  43. Bull. Worked in a check cashing place, carried a gun with out a permit while at work and to and from. Also got told last week can't carry in a bank, was sitting in the bank at the time with 2 on me and one on my wife. Told him to check Tennessee law because unless posted they would not stop me from carrying. That and the crap that you can't carryin a commercial vehicle really gets to me. Your employer can tell you not to carry in a big rig but there is no law against it.

  44. The camo one, most of y'all have seen in my paint thread. The other two I just finished. The TGO lower I bought already assembled from a member here, and the Spike's Tactical I put together (my first one ever). One upper is a PSA and the other is a Radical Firearms upper, both with free float handguards. I can't claim to have completely built these since the barrels were on the uppers that I bought, but I am still wanting to do one complete from scratch just to say I did. Anyway, here they are. Here are some closer pics at the RF upper.

  48. My understanding of the reason for no pointy blades was to reduce the likely hood of injury if a knife was dropped from high up in the rigging. Wharnecliff has became a term very similar to bowie, where it covers a very broad genre of blade shapes. The reason I like the modern Wharnecliff for self defense is that it has a straight edge from ricasso to tip and it is a leading point. As it cuts, the point is drug into the target instead of away like on a drop or clip point. Those are trailing point designs. That straight edge also makes "achieving point" easier. That is basically touching your point to the target at the beginning of a thrust. I still like a bowie for self defense, but they each have their pros and cons. And a medium sized wharnecliff fits the bill for me right now

  49. Nice.  Very clean and elegant design.  Good trade, Spots - especially considering that if you get to missing the knife you traded too much you simply have to fire the forge and make another!  Funny thing is that - to non-knife folks - you could probably pass that off as an innocent letter opener.   I had my doubts about the Wharncliffe style as it is generally promoted almost solely as a self-defense knife style (and, unlike Spots, I have no training or knowledge of using a knife for SD beyond 'try to stick the pointy end in the threat until it stops being a threat.)  However, I recently found that the Folts S.P.E.W. from CRKT wouldn't leave me alone - I just liked the look of it so much - so I bought one and, having carried it a little in neck knife mode, have found that the style can work pretty well even for a guy like me who uses a knife more as a tool than a weapon.
