1. I still like the comparison of Chicago to Houston: http://gunfreezone.net/wordpress/index.php/2013/03/06/a-tale-of-two-cities-chicago-vs-houston/

 2. Not the first RIF (reduction in force) I have seen or lived thru. Always ends badly for our military down the road. A smaller force that does more with good training and equipment is always a dream of many but it never seems to work out that way.

 4.   It's not exactly a pocket carry gun unless all your pants have really big pockets but there is no better pistol in its little niche.  Shoots like a full size gun with the best trigger found on any M&P and way better than any other in that size.

 5. Its just like the Clinton purges from the mid-late 90s.    Back then it was to "right-sized" the Army for the "peace dividend" that was suppose to pay down the national debt.  We know how well that money was spent!

 7. As much as I love the Old Muscle, you can't deny that today's performance cars are leaps and bounds ahead of that great era of the 60s and early 70s.   Example - - - The new 2015 Mustang GT's 5.0-liter (302 c.i.) engine produces 435hp and 400 lb-ft of torque while getting a combined 20+mpg.   AND you don't have to adjust any solid lifters, clean & re-gap the plugs, or set the points before every weekend!

 8. So today I decided to use some glow in the dark powder to put some night sights on my AK. Here is a picture of everything I used, except a drill and drill bit. The powder I am using was bought from here. I bought an ounce and it has lasted a very, very long time. I bet a 1/4 ounce will do 5-10 pistols. The powder is green but there is another seller that sells different colors. And those colors are available here. I have not tried the United Nuclear powder so I have no clue how it compares to the GlowInc powder. The epoxy I use is 5 minute Gorrilla brand but really any clear two part epoxy will work. Even though it says it sets in 5 minutes the actual cure time is much longer. So I started out by finding a drill bit close to the size of the white dot that is already there. The holes for most white dots are generally very shallow. And although the epoxy would probably work fine I do drill it out a bit deeper to get more material in as well as to ensure it doesn't come out. Before drilling, and after removing the white dot, there is not much more than a dimple so I took the drill, drill bit and went a bit deeper. This is a piece of stamped steel so I had to be mindful not to go completely through the metal but with handgun sights this is generally not a concern. Even so it is important to go slow and take your time. Here is how the front sight looked after drilling it. Next I start working on the epoxy and getting it mixed up. You do not want to use too much but you also do not want to use too little. I normally start with a dollop about the size of a dime. And once I get the epoxy thoroughly mixed I split it. Then ensures I have some in reserve in case I have added too much powder to the mixture and it is too dry. Then once I split the epoxy I pour enough glow in the dark powder onto the mixture to cover it. You can see my reserve epoxy in the background. Then I thoroughly mix the powder and epoxy but before dabbing it into the hole in the sight you must wait first because this is where it gets a little critical because you want enough powder so the sight will glow but not so much that the surface will not smooth. It will look like you have added to much but if you let the mixture set for about 15 seconds the surface should smooth out. If the surface does not go smooth then you add a little more epoxy but if the mixture goes smooth very quickly, like in 5-10 seconds, then add a little more powder. The mixture will smooth out with too much powder but it is too hard to work with and it might start to cure before it smoothes out. I added the powder to this one and because this one smoothed out too quickly. I added a little more powder. You can tell it smoothed too quickly because the dollop is still nice and round yet the surface is smooth. You want it to take a little longer, longer than 15 seconds, for the surface to smooth out. Then I began mixing again and after thoroughly mixing it I again let it sit for 15 seconds and this time it took a little longer for the surface to smooth out. Now comes the part where you fill up the hole you created with the drill bit. I normally start out will a lot less than it needs. The reason is I do not want an air pocket in the bottom of the hole. So I grab a little bit. And I mash it into the hole. You are not wanting to add enough to finish the sight the first go. You want to swish it around in the hole to ensure it completely covers the inside of the hole. Then once that is done you grab the same amount and sort of dab it on the mixture in the hole. The dab will be raised up with a tail but leave it alone and it will slowly settle down to a nice round dot that sticks up from the sight. Here is an example of a dab that is slightly sticking up. And it settled into the picture below. In this picture it is a bit too big so I wiped it away and took another dap to it. That is the beauty of this. If you screw up you can wipe it away while it is drying or you can just drill it back out if you don't like it after it has dried. There is about 10 minutes worth of work time for you to get it perfect. So after wiping it away I used a smaller dab and it turned out about perfect. So after you have the perfect dab you MUST position the gun so the sight is flush with the ground while the mixture cures. If you don't then you end up with an elongated dot rather than a round one. And even though the epoxy says it is 5 minute epoxy it generally takes about 15 minutes to harden enough to take the gun out of a vice but it is still not hard enough to touch, that generally takes an hour or two depending on temperature. And something else you can do is right after you add the dab, and before it tacks up, is sprinkle more powder onto the dot. This will give you more powder but it will also make the sight have a rough looking, and feeling, texture to it. Personally I like the nice round, shiny dot versus the dull one. The rough texture also gathers dirt quicker and dulls the sight so if this is a carry gun I would not do the rough texture finish. And although it is hard to judge, this is a picture of the dot after a 1 second charge with a flash light. That is in a room that is completely dark with no other light source other than the camera screen light bouncing off of me. I use this on all my guns and they are brighter than tritium sights for a several hours after being charged with a flash light. And even if it does dull out all it takes is a one second blast of your flash light. And finally, my directions might not exactly fit what you do. Epoxies are different, temperatures are different and what you want is different so it might take a little trial and error to find out what works for you. But even if you screw up you are out pennies. And one more thing. If you do not want glow in the dark sights but want the whitest sights you have ever seen you can use the same exact instructions except use titanium dioxide. It results in an extremely white dot that is also impervious to 99% of the solvents out there. I would also venture to guess you could also use it to fill in the markings on firearms even though I have not tried it. And it will work with any powder, regard less of color too. And as always, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

 12. I have no 10MM experience yet, but have the EAA Witness Elite on the way to me from Bud's. I'm just not a Glock fan, and I wanted more capacity than a singlestack offers. Any particular reason you're wanting to go the compact route? With a hot round like 10MM, I want all the barrel I can get to maximize velocity, and a heavier gun will be a little more tame.

 16. It is about money. The war is winding down. Each Army  division is loosing one Brigade Combat Team. The loss will be replace by a NG BCT that will become attached to that division for practical purposes. The war is winding down. A large standing Military cost money. The Reserves are cheaper.. This has happened after every war.   Majority of the worlds militaries or defense forces are small with a large reserve if needed.

 18. Rangemaster is a great place to train and Tom is a great instructor.  As to the story, I think someone is pulling your leg (or at least I hope so).   Tom and Lynn already travel extensively to do training all over the country; they couldn't be gone much more than they already are so this story doesn't make a lot of sense. Also, neither their website nor their Facebook page says anything about them closing.   All that to say...I'm finding this story doubtful and I hope it turns out to be false.

 23.   Well, yes and no. Download speed isn't based just on your connection, but also the pipe available from wherever you're downloading. You may find out that you're drastically under utilizing your connection. Think of it has renting a concrete mixing truck to lay down one bag of quickcrete. Sure it'll do the job... but you could probably could have done it for alot cheaper.   What kind of stuff are you downloading? I'm only saying this because you may be able to back off the speed, get the same results and save yourself a good chunk of change per month.

 30. Absolutely Correct. There will always be the thrill of speed and power that is in most of us older guys, and a large portion of the youngers set. Look at all the tuner mods on cars today. It's a guy thing. So strap on your 'nads and don't worry about those of us who love the sound of horsepower.     The love of muscle cars isn't about structural engineering.

 31. if you have usaa use them to rent.  lowest price going, they get a special discount with several rental companies.  i rent a car several times a year with usaa.  if not look for discounts with any organization that you belong.  most rental companies have better rates for longer rents, like 10 days.  the pre paid gas can be a good deal it at the end of your trip the tank is all most empty, never works that way for me.   check with your insurance company for coverage so you don't have to buy the rental high dollar stuff.  don't add drivers, it will cost more.  forget the gps and sat radio, just more money.  rent ahead, 30 days or more for better/lower rates.  check the vehicle out good and takes pictures before signing the rental papers.  do not smoke in the vehicle, they will charge your card for lots of clean up money.  the rental company will try to get more money from you on all type of mickey mouse things, don't fall into the trap.

 32.   Ha right, I barely have time to load my mags with shelf ammo ;o) ... Mr Kris has done a ton of load development for me.  Only one I know outside of a "Type 10 FFL holder big boy name on the side of a box of ammo guy" that loads as much as he does ;o)    You see I have cracks in my concrete because I have 15000 lbs of machinery sitting on it ... he probably has that much weight in primers alone ;o)   JK but I am expecting to hear about a huge sinkhole opening up in Hendersonville ;o)   In all seriousness he's done a lot of R&D with these cans and loads and is more than willing to share.    Glad you're enjoying the AI ...Everytime I see you post a pic it makes me feel good I got her to right home!

 33.   Won't argue that. My wife's intercooled, turbo 4 cyl 4 door is faster than my bone stock '69 Road Runner. For a daily driver, that technology is hard to beat. However, there is no comparison in the fun and cool dept w/ the older Musclecars.

 35. I've had several come through the shop with this problem. I've always just re-tapped the receiver stepping up to a 8-40 thread... you don't even need to drill larger, just use the tap... the receiver is soft enough.  The 8-40 matches more of your standard scope screws anyways.  The 10/22 receiver is aluminum and as Oh Shoot states, there's not much room to go with longer screws.  If the 1st half is boogered it's probably not going to yield a good lock up anyways and when you torque them down they may wind up stripping the other half..    If you want to try longer bolts first, you're looking for 6-48 thread. Pretty sure that's the factory thread pitch. Just be careful as you can run the bolts into the receiver channel. If you were trying this route I'd also pick up a 6-48 tap and retap the holes just to clean them up and give them the best opportunity to hold.   Brownells sells longer bolts too if you have time to wait for them.  Found this a few minutes ago while looking ...   http://www.brownells.com/optics-mounting/electronic-sights/mounting-hardware/brownells-146x48-scope-base-shop-kit-prod795.aspx   Good luck!

 39. Scary and sad.   Here in the U.S. and globally we're well past the historical time line for another pandemic. If you reason it out we're less prepared and more vulnerable today than decades and centuries ago. There's no way to prepare for it because it could be any of dozens of plagues from Spanish flu, Avian, Ebola, etc., natural or man-made.   With the global population at over seven billion and the vast majority of those living in cities and urban settings... The speed it can travel from one Continent to another is now measured in hours instead of historical months / years. You get the picture.   Modern technology and medicine will do nothing to slow the next global pandemic at all. By the time it is identified it will have spread beyond control and in the process of mutating. Any attempt for vaccines will be futile since by the time it is identified, a vaccine is invented / manufactures & delivered, it will have most likely run its course.   That's not even taking into account the percentage of first responders and medical professionals that will be at the most risk of contracting the plague. Our next global pandemic is a 100% certainty and will spread faster than anytime in history. For economic and political reasons, our borders will not be shut down until it's much too late.   Man, this is scary!

 46. Airplane guys have a soft spot in their hearts for folks that show an interest in flying, or learning to fly. If you have a municipal airport close by, let your interest be known to some of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) guys, and chances are that they can hook you up with someone that will take you guys up in their personal plane. I've been a pilot for most of my adult life, and have owned my own aircraft for years now, and have given many rides to interested people. You and your son just need to spend a little time hanging out at a local airport, and make some acquaintances. a good person to start off with, is the person behind the counter. No self respecting pilot, can resist offering a free ride to a kid hanging on the airport fence! Good luck, and let us know about it. Trust me...it's nothing like a commercial flight in an airliner, or even a corporate jet.

 48. In these troublesome days I usually experience anxiety if for some reason I have no armaments on my person. Ignorance is blissful for the uninformed and unaware. It's a wonderful transition much akin to setting on the porch watching a rain shower whilst listening to a bit of Chopin. That's what I'd liken putting on your gear to prepare for the day to. It will eventually imbue you with a calmness that's hard to produce otherwise. You can now head out with some assurance that if the turns hard south fast you shall be that much more equipped to cope and react responsibly. This assumes that you have prepared yourself sufficiently and in an ongoing manner with good training and practice. 10000 hours to mastery of any discipline I believe the best selling author claims. My small anxiety normally just entails how many additional magazines I can comfortably carry.
