  1. Thanks to Daniel at Guns and Leather, I am the new proud owner of the single stack 9 Glock 43. Picked it up yesterday and proceeded to put 200 uneventful rounds downrange, had one brass to the face but I can't swear that wasn't bouncing off the range stall, it was during a mag dump. I love it, will definitely replace my edc XDs when I get night sights ( should be here this weekend). Very soft shooting and extremely happy with it. If you are a Glock fan I definitely recommend it. Waiting on background check First 12 rounds slow fire at ~7 yards. First 50 ~7yrds fairly rapid fire.

  2. 1. Jar Jar sucks more than whiny Luke because he's a moron. Luke's an inexperienced farm hand who wants to see the galaxy. He's over excited on the Falcon when things get tense, but he's not a blithering idiot. Jar Jar is a blithering idiot.\   2. The light and sometimes subtle verbal sparing between C-3PO, R2-D2, Han, Luke, and Chewy is funny. The slapstick comedy of Jar Jar is not funny.   3. Han shooting first is critical. It establishes that he's, at best, a neutral character on the good-evil scale, and at worst downright dangerous. Tatooine is the first time we meet Han. Luke and Ben are hiring this guy and he just blasted a hole in Greedo. What are they getting themselves into? Rewriting the scene later because we want Han to always be a "good guy" misses the mark. He's a selfish scoundrel when they find him. To make him something else diminshes the journey he has to make for himself from that guy in the cantina to General Solo of the Rebel Alliance. Greedo letting Han get the drop on him just shows how inept Greedo was at the bounty hunting job. I don't think the same thing would have happened if it had been Bossk, IG-88, or Boba Fett in the cantina.   4. CGI has its place, but it's not great for living things yet. Puppet Yoda in V and VI is a little stiff and lacks the fine muscle movements of a real living thing, but it is "real" in the sense that it actually exists. The way the light plays off the puppet is the same way it plays off every other real object on the set. CGI yoda has more realistic fine movements (except for the crazy lightsaber fights designed by a 7 year old) but loses the presence of actually being in the shot. Changing the ghosts was just stupid. All of the others are still as old as they were when they died. How come Ben gets stuck in Sir Alec Guiness' body instead of Ewan McGregor's, but Darth Vader gets to go back to being young again? Much like cheapening the redemption of Han by having him shoot second, this cheapens the redemption of Anakin by Luke. It says "Darth Vader never happened. I get to go back to being the good guy I was before that darkness" rather than saying "I survived being Darth Vader and have returned to being a good man after passing through that darkness."   5. III was the best of the prequels, particularly the final scenes on Mustafar. Agree that H.C. couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. The only thing that ruined the final part of III was the Dr. Frankenstein's monster setup for creating Vader. Cheesy to say the least.

  3. This bird came in to an Avian-x hen decoy that my brother bought, I really like it a lot. My brother shot this bird this morning, again since it was raining we set up in the blind and just called some and waited. Since I killed a tom yesterday he had first shot today. He shot, the bird dropped and then got back up and took off. It was on after that, I'm not sure who fired the fatal pellet, but my brother is getting the credit. I estimate this bird cost us about $10.50.

  4. Cops are representives of government, and deserve the same scrutiny we give to any other government agency. Possibly more so when you consider the powers and responsibilities they have. When they are out of line- as the officers actions and the equipment in this situation were- they deserve the reaction they get from the public.

  5.   I think it is both dangerous and against the ideals of freedom and liberty to cast any and all criticism of police procedure or an individual officer's actions as 'cop bashing' and, therefore, dismiss such criticisms as simply ire against officers, in general.  Just being a cop doesn't automatically make an individual intelligent, rational, honorable or even a very good human being.  A jerk wearing a police uniform and carrying a badge is simply a jerk in uniform carrying a badge - a jerk that is granted full police powers to reinforce his or her tendency toward being a jerk.  Calling that jerk a jerk is simply speaking the truth, not 'cop bashing'.  As hard as it is for some folks to believe, there are bad cops out there as well as otherwise good cops who are subject to poor training or bad procedure.  Just criticizing police procedures, the militarization of our civilian police or the action of individual officers does not mean that a person dislikes, disrespects or disdains officers as a rule.  Further, not every officer needs to dress or be equipped as if he or she were part of an invading force.  In fact, there are some officers who work in such relatively safe and low-crime areas that the likelihood that they will be killed in the line of duty is probably about equal to - well, honestly, probably a good bit less than - my chances of getting killed in a car crash on my way to work.

  8. if a man can't handle someone giving them the finger then they have no business being a cop. Give me the finger and I will wave at you and smile.  When in doubt fall back on Mom's advice of "stick and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me."  Flying a FU is simply words.  Man up and shine it on.   I firmly believe any law enforcement should be dressed in a shirt and tie (aside for an operation that is foreseen as especially dangerous.)  I would allow a Polo if it was casual Friday.   Cops dressed like para military is beyond ridiculous.

  9. Integration is the problem. The schools were doing fine in black and white neighborhoods until the government forced busing on them in the early seventies. There was neighborhood pride all over the city, parents knew the teachers and the school admin could still beat the tar out of you when you became disruptive.

  16. Did you all not know what you were going to get after the first four seasons? Why all the bitching? There has been murder, nudity, sex, more murder, more sex, etc since Season 1. This should not be a surprise at this point. Be libertarian about it. If you don't want to watch it don't watch it.   If you're feeling more moral than most then you should have cancelled HBO long ago...

  17. I've only been to On Target a few times, but have never had any reason to complain about the staff. One time, they even helped me with adjusting a flash hider on an AR barrel for free. A simple turn of a wrench, sure...but since I don't have a garage or the tools, that small thing was a welcome help. I also like how late they stay open. I took my ex-girlfriend there to shoot for the first time in her life once on a date night. I'm romantic like that. I've never felt like an unwelcome customer in their business. Their fees for shooting are the only reason I don't frequent their establishment with regularity, and that's a shame. The costs are so prohibitive that I'll drive 30 minutes out to Woodbury and shoot at OK Coral after planning it out instead of a quick 10 minute trip to their lanes spur of the moment. I really think that if they lowered their prices, and used an online reservation system, they could fill enough time blocks with people on their days off, lunch breaks, and so forth to be profitable. Personally, I have two days a week this semester with five hour blocks in between classes where if I didn't have schoolwork to do, I would have considered popping down there to shoot a box of ammo. But, their doors are still open, so they're doing fine without my advice.

  18. I guarantee you one thing, if the Outpost opens one it will be both state of the art and outrageously expensive if their other pricing is any indicator. Probably on par with Nashville Armory but more expensive.

  25. What sucks for me is the books of the expanded universe. I've read a little over 200 of the paper back novels and it does as any other book will do.....ruin movies. It's not so much the actual movie that's ruined. It's the ability of the characters. Even Yoda is a bit of a candy ass by comparison to force users in the expanded universe. If you think Yoda had a hard time fighting Darth Sidious, try reading about Bane. Bane could have killed both of them. Other Sith Lords such as Darth Caedus makes Anakin look like an alter boy. Darth Caedus by the way was first known as Jacen Solo. Eldest son of Han and Leia. There was a Jedi (can't recall his name right now) who pulled a starship out of a star using nothing but the force. Hmph, and poor little Luke struggled with his fighter stuck in the mud. I hope, I hope, I hope!!!! They take the expanded universe into account with the new movie. After Luke reaches the age of about 50 he is a BAD SUMM BEECH! He completely redesigns the Jedi Order and does away with all the silly BS of the old order. He can actually use the Dark Side without succumbing to it. It was a long struggle though. My biggest fear of the new movies is that they will botch the Mandalorians completely. Boba brings them back to the forefront and they are feared by the whole of the Galaxy once more. Mandalore is a thriving planet again and Mandalmotors builds the finest fighters and weaponry money can buy. Ohh damn, someone hand me a mop, my nerd spilled out everywhere.

  27. A 147gr copper clad 9mm round costs me $0.13 to load using Green Dot. As for the cost of my time I factor it as shooting time because I load in the winter when I can't get out due to the weather. So yes it is cheaper. More importantly I'm not dependent on the whims of WalMart etal.

  29. If you are reloading just to save money on 9mm it's probably not worth it unless you are shooting high volumes. To me it's more about tuning ammo to my guns and relaxing that it is economics.     Edit - Stupid IOS Auto Correct.

  30. I killed this guy last Friday. I was literally sawing off branches when he stepped out into my field about 75 yards away! He left but came back and I managed to draw his attention to my decoys. He couldn't care less about the Hen, but that Jake decoy....He wanted to DESTROY. It was awesome. Took a while to be able to get my gun up without spooking him, but managed to give him a dirt nap a few minutes later. I had to let him separate from my decoy first because i didn't want to ruin my decoy obviously, haha. First one down this year! hopefully a couple more to go! Keep up the good work everyone!

  33. My three kids were always pretty smart. When they finished class work early they would want to play. While in the first grade the schools administration decided that my son had ADD wanted him tested and medicated. To me, it was just a case of lazy teacher syndrome. Give him more work, challenge him. We bit the bullet and sent the kids to private schools where they never had conduct issues and excelled academically. That same boy is now in a five year MBA program. I probably would have taken them out of public schools eventually because I was too concerned about the violence that frequently occurs in the schools.

  35. Hey guys. This feels a bit awkward for me to write, but I just have to give props to the guys at On Target. First, the background info. I used to be a member at On Target 7-8 years ago and felt like I was taken care of as a range member, but not much else. When money got tight, I didn't renew my membership and due to a lot of other circumstances I pretty much quit the gun hobby for a few years. About 3.5 years ago I slowly started shooting/buying again. There were a few familiar faces at On Target, one of them a good friend who continued to be awesome, but everyone else was new. Um... dunno how to say this but I was very unimpressed and almost felt unwelcome. I still stopped in every few months anyway and soon even my one last hold-out good guy left/quit/gotfired/idunnoineverfoundout/healwayssaidhewantedtomovetoalaska/guessmaybehedid was no longer there. At that point I kind of gave up on the shop. Fast forward again to last August. For a short time I worked at Nissan and took advantage of a screamin' deal on an annual membership that was offered to Nissan employees which I heard about through a co-worker. I figured I would just use the range and nothing else... just a cheap place to shoot while protected from the elements. This was great at first, but a lot of things had changed since I had shot there before. I used to be able to shoot whatever kind of rifle or shotgun I wanted without a second thought or extra cost penalty. When I first brought an AR for wifey to shoot, the told me I could not shoot my steel cased bi-metal stuff. Ixnay on the ootingshay for that day as that was all I brought. :/ Next time I brought brass 223 so she could shoot that, and they had just started another new rule that you had to buy THEIR rifle ammo to shoot. (Note: only affects rifles, not handguns) :-( Due to me being a terrible cheapskate, I now simply view OT as a pistol only range. The rifle lanes are currently down due to needing repair anyway, but I understand they should be back up soon. Doesn't sound like a glowing review so far, does it? As of six months ago, I was still pretty sour on the place, but I did have that membership to take advantage of. I don't know exactly when it happened, but in my time away the staff changed completely, and I believe my previous history with OT and my idea of what it WAS conflicted with how the places operates now (much better, imho) caused me to take a dim view of what were some necessary changes there. In the months I have been going I have gotten to know some of the guys, and have received some great help. Also, one of my really good friends started working there recently. When he started I told him how frustrated I was with OT when I started going back, and how I disliked some of the changes. Honestly, because of my respect for him I started to give the shop another chance at earning my favor... not just being a place to shoot, but a place to shop, bring friends, and get help with my various projects. I wanted to share this with my other Mid TN folks who maybe have felt a little turned off by OT in the past. I really do believe the place is a much friendlier and helpful store than it was a few years ago. It took me some time to come around, and of course the fact that my friend works there to really give them another chance. No, I have not gotten a single discount on anything because I am friends with anyone there, and this post is completely unsolicited. I just wanted to share my experience. What really made me do this was the help I got yesterday. I'm not going to get too detailed but suffice it to say two guys there went WAY above and beyond yesterday helping me with some items I didn't even purchase there. (NRAAM show deal.) The guy that really stepped up huge doesn't even know me. He just knew how to help, so he did. I'm seriously grateful. I just feel I had to share this. I'm just asking that if there are any of you guys out there that have felt like I did in the past about OT... if you swore them off a few years ago... please just give them another shot (pun intended) to help you again. I know that in the past I had spoken of some of my dissatisfaction with OT, so I feel it's only fair that I also share how I feel now. No, they're not going to win on price very often at first glance, but at least give them a look. I haven't bought any guns recently, but when I wanted some Magpul parts for my 500, they were within $2 of any other supplier, and I got to check the stuff out before buying. Thanks everyone for your time. If you're in the area and haven't stopped by OT in awhile, go say "Hi" to Josh, Kevin, or Tyler. They've won me back, and I hope they can help you, too.

  40. Wow - when did Gecko45 leave the tactical retail response team to take a job as an ordinary cop? I guess he was tired of cops getting all the glory when he and his team were the real heroes. Was the armored vehicle in question possibly an armored golf card or maybe a hardened Segway? Are you sure it was an actual police vehicle or did it maybe have Mall of America painted on the side? Some of you guys mentioned that such gear might be okay if serving a no-knock warrant, etc. Okay, except that should be a moot point as there should be no such thing as no-knock warrants. Criminal or not, they are a civilian police force serving warrants on civilian offenders (or, in some cases, the neighbor of a civilian offender when, oops, they kick in the wrong door and shoot/beat down the wrong people or kill seven year old girls who are asleep on the couch.) They are not military anti-insurgent forces going door to door in Afghanistan nor are they carrying off an "0 Dark Thirty" mission.

  43. 'it depends'.   with my turret press, I can make a box of 9 in 15-20 min. if we can assume brass is free -- that is, you can pick it up somewhere and don't mind doing so, that helps a ton with costs. if we assume you can shoot lead projectiles (no jacket) that helps a ton as well.  (if you clean after, even polygon rifled barrels are fine with (slightly hardened) lead, but if you are a glock guy, be aware of the issue !!!).   With those in mind, you are now talking powder, primer, and a cheap bullet... you should be able to make a box for about 50% or so of factory, talking 8 bucks a box roughly.   Now 8 bucks vs the bottom shelf steel cased Russian junk or other garbage ammo is not huge savings, but if you did it right, yours will have consistent powder charges and will be more reliable and accurate (if you really want performance, you can weigh each bullet and put the ones that are outside the average off to the side to make "junk" ammo for high speed short range self defense drills).   Your ammo will be at least (assuming fairly inexpensive reloading gear and a high rate of production, rather than hand crafting each round)  above mid-grade quality for between 2/3 to 1/2 the price you were paying for either junk or mid-grade (depending on what you were buying before).   Think about it :)

  46. Honestly until a conversation I was in yesterday brought them back to mind, I had sort of forgotten that they were over there.  After one of my favorite local gun-shop staffers left On-Target a while back, the overall customer experience seemed to go downhill for me and others I had spoken with at the time.   I'm glad to hear that they are turning things around.  We need more gun shops; not fewer.

  47. Found this online...     So it sounds like Tennessee just "does it for" 18-year olds now.   But this thread seriously makes me sad that a person can reach adulthood and not know what Selective Service is.  What the hell do they teach in schools these days?  Is Civics no longer part of the curriculum?

  48. And honestly most people would not notice what you are carrying. We all think we are printing because WE know the gun is there but the average person will never notice. Most are oblivious to their surroundings and would never notice a concealed gun regardless of how big it is. I have worn shirts that were tight enough to outline the gun and never noticed anyone acting like I was made. Since getting my Shield life is a lot better because it is so much lighter than my 1911.   One of the biggest things that those carrying guns do that gives them away is they constantly touch their gun. I see people adjusting their gun or touching it, I presume to make sure it is still there, as well as resting their hand on the gun's grip. If you need to check if you still have your gun you need a different holster. Also, you should be able to feel the weight, or mass, of the gun without the need to constantly check if it is still there.

The scales are stabilized mineral stained Afzelia Xylay sanded to 1000 grit and oiled with Scandinavian tung oil. They came out pretty sweet. They are mechanically fastened with as well as epoxied. It has be lightly acid dipped and sanded with 1000 grit paper. It has nice jimping on the spine as well as a swedge.......unsharpened. It comes with a black kydex sheath and is drilled for a large Blade Tech TekLoc which is not included. I've been wanting to make something of this design and finally got around to it. It's a pretty cool knife. It's available.
