  6.   Handle the load?  The pressure of all 9mm are within a safe threshold, and again the +P threshold is higher but all +P ammo falls within that range as well.  Note the kel tec advises not shooting a lot of +P in their guns.   Bullet mass does not increase or decrease pressure.  Instead, velocity (powder charge) is adjusted to keep pressure about the same.   The problems with heavy bullets include feeding problems in some models (nothing to do with kel tec, many guns can have the issue) more than anything else.  As someone said, velocity suffers but a +P 147 is still on par with a standard pressure 115 grain -- its not going to be reduced to a 380 but it may not be what you wanted in terms of performance.

  8. 2015 is officially the year of the AK for me. This year alone I have purchased two Century (CAI) "Iraqi Contractor" Romanian WASR 10's, a 2013 production Century (CAI) Romanian WASR 10, Century (CAI) Romanian RPK AES10B, + a Yugoslavian N-PAP DF. I have another Century (CAI) "Iraqi Contractor" Romanian WASR10 + a Century (CAI) Romanian Draco AK pistol en route to my FFL as I write this. As you can see, I am a fan of the weapon system through + through. At the present moment, I am debating the purchase of a Arsenal SLR107FR but I am stuck on if I should pick the variant with plum furniture or all black. Decisions, decisions! Without further ado, I present to you my humble selection of AK's. 9. I didn't plan on buying a new gun today. Nope, just got a VP9 and had no damn intention at all to buy something else. Didn't work out that way though. I'm a sucker for FDE and had the misfortune of stumbling across a new SIG 320C in full FDE. 10 minutes later I was walking out the door with it. Feels great but won't get to shoot it for a couple days.

  11. still hard to find any here.  sometimes sportsman's and academy sports has it.  but they have a low box rate.  stopped at one of my local wal marts and asked the manager for some.  the manager stated they got some yesterday.  it is all ways yesterday at wal mart.  the manager stated the same guys were lined up before 7am to buy it.   they get the heads up from the wal mart app.   the manager stated some get to the store at 5 am to wait at the gun counter for the ammo to be put out at 7 am.  one day it will level out and the stores will be full.  I hope the same old guys lose their butts and will have to eat all the 22 lr ammo they got for resale when the supply and prices come back to normal.

  15. Prag, actually your G19 would be the ideal CCP gun. Might as well shoot the biggest gun that is legal in the division.    When the IDPA" powers that be" decided to add CCP their logic was the same thing I have said repeatedly.....the G19 is probably the most carried Glock yet you almost NEVER see one being used at a big match. At the IDPA Nationals the G19 was the #1 carry gun that people filled out on the "what do you really carry " survey....yet there was only ONE competitor actually shooting a G19. WHY? Because if you can shoot a G34 in SSP why would you shoot a G19? And if you can shoot a G34 (or a full size 9mm 1911) in ESP why would you shoot a G19?    So when they wrote the CCP "specs" they pretty much measured a G19 and said THAT is the max size for this division. And limiting it to 8 rounds makes it single stack friendly. That is why some people are referring to it as the G19 division. And since ESP mods are legal for CCP then your stippled grip is legal for CCP. If I were you I'd shoot CCP with your G19.

  22. One of the more well-known pistols among enthusiasts is the Browning Hi Power, Mr. Browning’s last design. Its granddaddy was placed into production as the FN Model P35 in 1935 and it has been made in the millions over the years since then. For instance the German Army captured the FN factory when it overran Belgium in 1940 and produced over a quarter million of these guns for its own use before the war ended in 1945. After the war, FN concentrated mostly on the military market until Browning Arms decided to market the gun in the United States as the Browning Hi Power around 1950. It has been sold here continuously ever since. By 1970 FN and Browning’s Patents on the P35 had expired, so the Communist Hungarian arms conglomerate, FÉG, began producing the most faithful copy of the Hi Power ever seen outside of the FN plants in Belgium and Portugal. Completely reverse engineered, FÉG simply called it their Model P9. It was imported into this country during 1985 and 1986, and again from the early 90’s until FÉG declared bankruptcy in 2004. Importers such as Kassnar Imports, KBI, Century International, SSME, and Tennessee Guns International imported the guns under several model numbers. The most prolific of the importers was the Kassnar family’s KBI Inc., which imported them under their in-house model number PJK-9HP, and also as the Charles Daly Hi Power, which is what this story is all about. Here’s a photo of a first issue FEG P9, known as the KBI firm’s PJK-9HP. This is the gun that became the Charles Daly Hi Power discussed in the following paragraphs. Along about 2006 or so, KBI Inc., came up with a different way to produce and import these guns. He began importing them as unfinished kits which would be finished by contractors in the USA under the banner of the “Charles Daly Hi Power.” The real draw here is that they would be the only mass produced Hi Power ever to have “Made in USA” stamped on them. Unfortunately, it didn’t work. The Charles Daly Hi Power cost more to produce than it sold for, and KBI Inc., lost money on every one they sold. But they are darn good guns that are well worth their money and then some. If you hanker for one or own one, here are some facts that may be helpful to you. The first finishing contractor for these guns was Dan Wesson Inc., who finished the first 800 units (corrected 5/1/15 from the 500 originally stated) with serial numbers beginning in “HP.” The Dan Wesson guns were provided with dovetail slots set up for Novak style sights made to Browning Hi Power dimensions. The remainder of the Charles Daly Hi Power production run was finished by Magnum Research, Inc., and carried the serial number prefix “HPM.” The Magnum Research guns had their dovetail slots also set up for Novak style sights, but to the dimensions of the Colt M1911. The Charles Daly pistol in the photos is a Magnum Research "HPM" pistol and the sights are indeed made for the M1911 OK, so what about the guns. Are they worth anything? Yes, they certainly are. And they’re getting hard to get because their owners know what they have and don’t have much interest in getting rid of them. If you find one in good condition, you have a good gun made to the standards of well-made commonplace pistols, but not to the meticulous standard of finish workmanship found in the Browning gun. Their prices will run between a third and half as much as a new Browning Hi Power, so you can’t expect them to contain that gun’s premium finish work. I’ve owned five of the P9’s marked as CDHP’s and PJK-9HP’s and have never had a malfunction, so I think very well of them. They came with Uncle Mike's black rubber grips, which are functional but not attractive enough for me, so they were replaced right quick with a set of Herrett’s Cocobolo grips. They come with the FÉG extended safety lever, which is one of the nicest ones around. The sights provided on these guns were big dot express sights, which my old eyes and old habits just couldn’t get the hang of, so I replaced them with a set of adjustable sights from the now-defunct Miniature Machine Company of Las Vegas. The exterior finish is matte all over except for the sides of the slide, and the blue job is more grey blue than black blue. The external polishing of the metal is very well done. How accurate are they? Every one of them I’ve had were just as accurate as any of the mainstream 9mm’s like the Beretta 92, the Smith and Wesson 5906, and even the Browning Hi Power. If you can handle the sights, the inherent accuracy is there, and most of them have good enough triggers in them to really develop their accuracy potential. And any magazine that will work in the Browning Hi Power will also work in the Charles Daly Hi Power. I don’t think you can go wrong with one if you can handle a single action gun. So if you happen to run into one over at the LGS be careful, they tend to want to follow you home. Hope this information will be helpful to you. EssOne PS: How about the double action FÉG Hi Power pistols you see on the gun auction sites? The sellers are badly mistaken - they’re not Hi Powers at all. They were designed as loose but fairly faithful copies of the Smith and Wesson Model 59 and have nothing in common with the Hi Power beyond the Colt/Browning locking system. They’re good guns in their own right; they just aren’t Hi Powers.

  27. Man, sorry to hear that! I'm an admitted M&P fanboy and have 5 so far, to include a 5" Pro and have had 100% function with all of them and great accuracy across the board. Crazy enough, I think my favorite one has become my 40 compact when using fullsize mags with the adapters. I dunno why, but the thing just feels incredible in that setup. I have had a few other pistols (Sigma and PC629) with issues that Smith cleared up lickety-split and at zero cost to me. I got the 629 second hand (most like 7th or 8th, but whatever. Regardless, I hope it gets taken care of for you quickly, and that you get to enjoy the pistol as it should be.

  33.   One thing I try to always do when changing mags in my P3AT (which has a plastic mag catch just like I believe the PF-9 has) is that I press the mag release button in until the mag is fully inserted then release it and bump the bottom of the mag to make sure it is seated.  Of course I wouldn't do that in a 'real life' situation or if practicing quick mag changes but for target practice/range work it saves a lot of wear and tear on the mag release.  I didn't come up with this idea.  It seems to be fairly common practice among the members of the Kel Tec forum and that is where I first got the idea.

  37. Ten days? We had to submit Use of Force Reports and any required Internal Reports (which were also subject to Discovery Hearings) and all other Incident Reports before the end of shift. The rare exception being if you'd been injured in the incident and sent to the emergency room for treatment and were sent home afterwards. Of course come the next day that paperwork was expected and a prudent officer had filled it out to either be picked up by a supervisor or turned in the next day at work.

  40. Give the gun, and especially the trigger group, a good cleaning. A very dirty gun can cause everything you describe. Crud can hold the firing pin forward and the gun acts like an open bolt MG until the firing pin frees itself again. And a bolt face full of crud can cause cases to stick. Bad extractors can cause a lot of these problems too.

  42. Not sure if this thread is still hot or not.   My name's Rachel. My husband John and I own Fighting Sheep Dog in Claxton/Powell. We're a full service gunsmith, but our showroom specializes in ARs, AR parts, and AR accessories. I don't say this to advertise. This information is pertinent to this conversation.   My husband does all of the gunsmithing. I handle customer service, transfers, inventory, social media, marketing, and everything else.   So, when you walk in the door, want to build an AR, or have questions about special ordering a firearm, I'm your Huckleberry.   While I don't think it's right, I would agree that women are held to a higher standard when it comes to firearms. I have some older gentlemen who only want to speak to my husband. And if they are older guns - that's a good thing because I just don't know that much about them!   However, if you walk in and want to build an AR, want to know why some upper receivers have forward assists and some don't, want to know about barrel twist rates, or anything else - I'll run circles around most men you know.   I write all of the blogs on our website, handle the newsletter, and am constantly trying to find new and innovative pieces for our shelves.   I'm GLAD to see another female FFL holder coming forward! Where's your store going to be?

  47. If you're shooting at normal ranges under 300-400 yards, velocity is of little concern with a cartridge like the .223. Starting charges carry more than enough velocity to do what it's designed to do and do it well. If you've found accuracy, there's no reason to waste powder and add wear to your gun for a few fps. It's nonsensical, the reasoning people put behind blistering velocity.

  48. I just wanted to make a quick post to let anyone in the market for a trust know that they can't go wrong by paying John Wells a visit. I was in and out in less than 45 min and that's with me asking questions. John went through the trust with me and provided me with any and everything potentially needed. I spent some time tonight reading over everything again just to further familiarize myself with it and I am left feeling like I received a very well written and thought out document. I think one of the most valuable parts (2nd only to the trust itself) is that John makes sure that you understand that you're welcome to call anytime with any questions, you won't get that with a cookie cutter Internet PDF trust. Thanks again John and it was nice to meet and. Chat with you.
