  1. I got the opportunity to teach a young 10 year old boy to shoot, for the first time, today. My grandson's Tudor had to bring her 2 children with her this afternoon, for the first hour. Their dad picked them up. While we were sitting in the house, I asked the children would they want to shoot a 22 rifle. The boy jumped on it. The 12 year old girl was afraid so I didn't not push her. I did see her looking out the window, toward my back yard range, as he shot. If they ever come back, I think she will shoot. We talked about safety and I showed both of them about my MDL 60 Marlin 22 rifle. After I explained the operation he wanted to go fire it. I asked his mom and she said if I would go with him, he could. Needless to say he was amazed. He hit my 12" gong several times but did miss a few. When his dad come to get him he ran out to meet him and as soon as he rolled the window down the boy said, "Dad, I got news." He went on to tell his dad he got to shoot a real rifle, and gave his dad 3 empty shell casings my daughter picked up and gave him.

  2. I received mine this week after finally sourcing one and I wasn't disappointed! Looking forward to hopefully getting it to the range this weekend. The front serrations and extended slide stop levers are two of my favorite details about this pistol. S&W has a winner here!

  3. On the 19th of October, my daughter, wife and myself came down with the virus. Son and his wife as well. We were tested and found to be positive for the virus. Now my wife and myself smoked since our teenage years, we are in our early 60s, however we quit little over eight years ago. We all lost sense of smell and taste, runny nose, slight fever, it did not go into our lungs. We all had bodyaches and pains just like the flu. Five of us are living proof the virus will not kill a person of reasonable health. I don’t exercise enough, I smoked a lot, and not in the best of health, but we survived, proof that it does not kill. if you are sickly, have diabetes, bad lungs, heart disease, stay away from people.

  6. I can tell you the whole state of TN is very veteran friendly (tho I LOVE!!!! seeing those Purple Heart parking spaces at SMKW). Its one of 2 things that happened/I noticed shortly after we moved down here, that confirmed I'd made the right decision: 1 - my kid sang CHRISTMAS songs about BABY JESUS at his public school annual CHRISTMAS concert program held in the cafeteria beneath a Cross above the stage. 2 - High School's Spring band performance, they asked all the graduating seniors to stand when their names and future plans were announced, and those enlisting received a much louder and longer applause than the kids going to college out of State. Y'all got your heads on straight down here. Don't ever forget it.

  8. GOA and the Second Amendment Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition are all doing useful work. Unfortunately, they each have about 200 members, none of them is doing any lobbying at the state level, and none of them has the networking strength to put on rallies or to mobilize voters in large groups. Only the NRA can do that. But until the NRA cleans house and becomes an organization of which gun owners can be proud, it doesn't deserve our support any more. Let's build up the other organizations and hope that they'll someday have the strength to do what the NRA should be doing. And try to rebuild the NRA, minus the corruption and compromising.

  9. Been looking at joining a pro- Second Amendment organization again. I used to be a member of the NRA but with all the turmoil going on with them, I'm hesitant. Should I join the GOA instead? Granted the NRA has a large following but GOA seems to have some clout too. Should I join both? Thanks in advance

  12. I have had 2 of the standard configurations......both were very, very (yep, I mean VERY) prone to feeding and ejecting problems. Definitely not the type reliability desired. Now, having said that, they are really a good-looking pistol.

  13. Yeah, its crazy. I appreciate the web sites that have the option to “show only what’s in stock”. Of course all the ammo goes away when you do that, but it saves time.

  19. I have a standard 597 I bought 15 years ago. Bass Pro ran a sale on the one with the scope. They didn’t have any of those left, so they put a Redhead $40 scope on it and sold it to me at the sale price. I think it was less than $150. It’s the most accurate .22 rifle I have ever owned, and I’ve owned a bunch. It’s boring accurate. I haven’t done anything to it; I didn’t need to. All of my .22’s love the CCI Mini mag, its all I buy anymore. Good luck with yours. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine.

  22. OCD aside, I reload because its an enjoyable respite for me (in addition to the other reasons). I put some tunes on in the workshop area, clear the clutter from my reloading bench, and start sizing brass... its theraputic like any mindless repetitive task. I have a single-stage RCBS Dolomite gave me a while back, works great! Maybe after a few hours work I can point to a couple hundred rounds. Not really cost effective (errr.. wasn't last year). If I've got nothing going on a Friday night, or my Saturday plans outside are rained out/delayed, I've been known to enjoy a beverage or two while running the first 2 dies. I stay sober for charging and seating bullets, but the first 2 pulls are pretty brainless (on a single stage). The biggest of all the reasons I got myself setup for reloading was the last time politics made ammo pricey and hard to find. There may come a day we're casting lead boolits from scavenged tire weights and making homemade gunpowder (yes, Gordon's got a recipe and loads figured, but you prolly knew that already! LOL!) I find self reliance gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over. Its not a bad extension to this hobby. I wouldn't get into it for savings (whats the ROI on your budgeted press and consumables, assuming you can even get them?) Someone once told me its not about saving money on shooting, rather getting to shoot more for the same amount of money.

  24. That's fine, keep voting third party, and get nothing you want advanced by your chosen representative who is sitting at home instead of DC. My candidate may or may not win, and he may or may not advance anything I would like to see happen, but at least I have a chance, even if it a snowball's chance in hell, but it's a chance.

  26. My Father was a tech sergeant, was at a lot of the famous battles but a day or so later to setup infrastructure. He was an amature photogapher and took hundreds of photos but very few while in Europe, most were when he was in England or in boot camp before shipping over. Growing up and seeing some of these photos and seeing a miniature Minox camera he owned I was sure he must have been a spy in the war.

  27. Good morning. Good idea on the YouTube thing. I am going to give it a try. I ordered a tru-oil kit. I have a stock that someone did a really nice repair to a crack. I think I will try it first. I would also like to shorten it by 1/2“ to 3/4”? Oh boy. Here we go.
    1 point
  28. It's actually not difficult, just time consuming. Even with Tru-oil, you really need to wait 24hrs between coats, sand down between every coat. You need to wet sand the first few applications to fill the grain & after 15 or so coats/days, you need to leave it 10-14 days before you can polish the gloss back to a nice satin sheen. The stock I just posted was 28 coats & is literally as smooth as glass now, but it took a lot of work. It took a lot longer, because my initial batch of finishing oil was contaminated & after 26 applications, it would no longer cure. I had to strip it all & start from scratch. I was heartbroken.....

  29. The price for these will be $85.00 shipped, the way this will work you can either have the colors that you want and the attachments or you can send a picture of your rifle and it will be matched as closely as possible, I am doing this in part to help this person who is doing this as therapy for Parkinson’s, they are honestly the best constructed slings I have seen and can be made adjustable or with a fixed length, they are made with 550 Para cord and us made parts, these are 100 percent American made and of the highest quality if any of you want one let me know, he will be home in 2 weeks and can start to make them

  31. Answer the phone and tell them you're not giving until Wayne is gone and the bylaws are amended. They'll stop calling after hearing that a couple of times.

  32. I've been a life member of the NRA for quite a while and after reading this thread, I joined GOA. My phone has been ringing off the hook for weeks now with the caller ID showing it is the NRA. You can almost see the hand wanting money sticking out of the phone.

  33. No. They do provide a lot of emails explaining their Legal and legislative actions. There is a prominent link in each email to donate to the legal fund. So instead of the NRA tactic of “look! It’s bad people, give us money so we can do stuff!“ They are going the route of “here is what we are doing. If you would like to further support us, go here.“ It’s a small, but very significant difference to me.
    1 point
  34. I have told the caller that I won't donate until Big Daddy Wayne and his high priced suit collection is gone. That doesn't even get a response.
    1 point
  35. Hahahahaha. As if this is even a real question. If that’s unclear I’ll give you a hint. When the NRA calls me and asks for money or “Direction for the next year, please pick one of these four options”, I tell them I will gladly support them and donate to them when they become a pro-gun organization again. That really confuses them and the caller typically asks “What?”.

  36. This year I became a life member of both the NRA and the GOA. I ponied up full price for the GOA because I fully support and believe in the work they are accomplishing. I found a discounted rate for the NRA because while I am loathe to give them any money at all until WLP is gone, I do believe we need them around. They need fixing and having the ability to vote to change the board out is the only way to get that done.
    1 point
  37. Agree with most above. I am an Endowment Member with the NRA, but it's been clear for a while that the leadership is out for themselves. I need to start giving more to the GOA it sounds like.
    1 point
  38. I belong to both. Am a life member in the NRA, but until they get their act together I'll not give them a dime. It seems like their main purpose for the last several years has been to raise money for their gain.
    1 point
  39. I belong to both. Despite its current problems, the NRA does have clout. They also have some serious internal problems that have gone on for years. King Wayne long ago got much to into playing politics and became our own worst enemy. Honestly, I hope he ends up in jail. Hopefully, the NRA will come through these troubles better for the experience and regain its glory. Omega is right about GOA. These guys are bare knuckle fighters and don't back down or compromise. If GOA was as big as the NRA, we wouldn't have to fight for our rights. Maybe the NRA's current problems will help GOA grow. I strongly recommend them.

  41. Guys if you want to just get a decent knife sharpener buy a Spyderco sharp maker, and learn to use it that will serve you well however if you want them as sharp as my experience and equipment will do that will take you years of experience and could cost a few grand I do have a friend that can get a knife as sharp as my systems do by hand but he is very expensive and rightly so Someone mentioned I charge only $10 a blade that is only on a very rare occasion or when i did a multi knife deal for someone I also can sharpen small blades depending on if I have the correct adapter on hand As someone else mentioned if I put my best edge on a knife it can be maintained with a leather strop

  42. I like the Glock 48 with the Shield Arms 15 round mags. Small size and 15+1 rounds in the pistol. If you like the G45 then it is good to go!
    1 point
  43. To address the original question... I think it's the ideal Glock. When I had FNS9's, I found myself thinking if Glock would make a model like this, 4 inch barrel and 17 rd mags, it would be perfect. And now, we have it.
    1 point
  44. While I agree it is silly, Glock models are called by the patent number that they are not named that way
    1 point
  45. Glock has never been known for original thinking, after they created the 17. That was just the next number to come up. Great pistols, but boring as hell. Not necessarily a bad thing, when you make a great pistol though.
    1 point
  46. "Glock 45 in 9mm". Seriously? Who was the non-genius in Glock's marketing department who decided on THAT model number for their latest 9mm? Talk about confusing people. "Hey you want to see my new Glock 45?" "Sure! So is it the new model 36 or a 21?" "No, it's a 45." "OK. But which 45 is it?" "It's not a .45, it's a 9mm." "Dude. This is just insane. Don't you know which Glock you got?"

  47. Last night on Netflix I watched the Movie “Walk Ride Rodeo”. It’s the true story of Amberley Snyder who was paralyzed after a wreck, and her battle to get back in the saddle. She is now a popular motivational speaker. Huh, imagine that. I wish I had known as I was watching it that she performed all the post-crash horse stunts in the film. And her younger sister Autumn performed the pre-crash stunts. It’s a good family movie.
