  1. It’s not “arming teachers.” It’s ALLOWING teachers to arm themselves if they choose. If they don’t like it, then don’t participate, but why not let others who are willing? I don’t think anybody believes it is THE solution, but a fire may not do as much damage if someone with a hose is there when it starts.

  2. I just picked up my new TX22! It came in about three weeks from the time of order. My hat's off to Taurus for coming through. I'll find out next week if their product is as good as their promise. Thanks to all for the advice and interest!

  3. I agree 100%- I have enough parts to keep my AR15's going for some time- But my Wife say's to go ahead and get it if I want-so there is that- I may just buy one just so I put my anxiety to bed- I guess a .308 is almost a perfect caliber for most any use up to including medium game hunting-

  5. I remember in the late '60s we had some downtime while conducting carrier sea trials aboard the USS Ranger before heading overseas for strike ops against the Viet commies. The Marine detachment had a few Winchester pump shotguns and a good supply of ammo and clay targets, so the CO got the idea to entertain a group of off-duty sailors with some trap shooting. The captain loaded up a hand thrower and took a position on one of the flight deck elevators while the Marines handed out the guns. I was one of the lucky few who had the rare privilege of ordering the captain to "Pull", then blasted three out of three pigeons to bits. I didn't get a sharpshooter's medal, but I did earn admiring looks from the CO and a couple of jarheads that day.

  7. This one is going to sting me pretty good, but I need to get my priorities straight with what I'm dealing with health wise. Here's one you rarely see I purchased this one from one of my sources that I have bought numerous Smith & Wesson Revolvers from 25-2 3.5" Bbl. K Frame Round Butt Conversion. This started out as a 80's Mod. 6.5"Bbl 25 TARGET MODEL. The Bbl was cut to 3.5" that's why it doesn't have the markings, then it was converted to a K Frame Round Butt Conversion. He was not sure if it was done by John Jovino or Austin Behlert, but who ever did the conversion did a great job. There are two small marks as shown in the pictures(up close you have to reallylook to see), other than that the finish is 100%. $2780 CASH FTF with everything pictured, Stag K Frame Boot Grips I purchased after buying the gun, orginal wood Grips, Moon Clips, and all the Tools. I live in the Whitehouse area and can meet locally around Goodlettsville,Hendersonville, Gallatin and Nashville area. But I can drive half way to meet and complete the transaction. Please PM me any questions or if you need some more pictures. Thanks.

  8. My boys and I are working on fixing this up. It's taken a lot longer than I'd hoped but we're getting there. My wife's granddad bought it new. While I was able to drive it across town to our house, we've had to do a lot of stuff to get it running reliably. Almost there. Trying to use it to teach them about wrenching. I'd love to put an LS in it, but just trying to get the 4.3 running well for now.

  9. I think a lot is going to depend on what happens in November. If Joe gets another term, gun sales are going to skyrocket as will prices. If you want one, now may be the best time to do so. But if you buy also consider going ahead and buying extra mags, ammo and accessories as they will also be going up if Joe wins. 7.62X51 - turning cover into concealment for almost 70 years.

  10. I have taken the position over the past few years that if I think I might want it or need it in the future, I get it as soon as possible without paying a premium due to demand. I figure, if I end up not wanting it or needing it, I can sell it (though this may get more difficult due to the increasing BS). Prices probably won't go down in the future especially with inflation and even if I take a little hit selling it, it was worth it. I believe we should all take this position with things like parts, magazines and other accessories as well. People often forget about what it takes to keep something running after they purchase it.

  12. Have you seen cops shoot? If a teacher is genuinely interested in shooting, they can become far more proficient than most SROs.

  14. Are they opposed to the bill? I fully support their right to not carry if that is what they wish, but many opposed to the bill are making the same irrelevant "It's shouldn't be the responsibility of the teachers" argument. The bill doesn't mandate any responsibility, but ALLOWS a teacher who wants to carry to do so. Why do teachers who don't want to carry have such a problem with that?

  15. An "I was there" moment. This is the most angry, formidable looking muscle car ever. If you've never had this roll up behind you on a two lane you can't understand. Had a customer when I delivered newspapers as a kid who had a Plum Crazy with white top, stripes, interior, 440 4 speed Coronet R/T and been in lust ever since. Same year Super Bee is near tie for second place on my wish list.

  21. That's funny! yeah, Dad traded me the 73 Polara, it had a 400 CID. I tried to trade fro a 68 Super Bee with a 440 4 speed and he nixed it. Said the 440 was too much. Hell the Polara would probably outrun the Bee! I had a 96 Regal 4 door. That pea green that it seemed most of them were. It was a very sweet car as long as I didn't look at the outside. Mama and I bought an 18 Regal TourX new, probably keep it till we die. But DMAN! a 69 RR for 3 grand was a bargain even in the 90s

  23. Similar here, but mine was a 73 Polara retired interceptor. What it lacked in looks it made up for on the road. But MAN it rode rough. Traded it off for something with A/C. Guys I ran with all made fun until they saw it run. May have been a match for my 98 Trans Am. The T/A rides better though.

  24. TN is not inventing anything new here. Private schools have had the option to permit carry for several years. State universities have allowed it as well for all employees. 33 states allow teachers to carry. I understand all the concern, and teacher carry is not the only answer. Hardened facilities will help. But I would rather have a teacher that is willing to carry and of course that participates in routine training in place than not. It is well documented that response time is proportional to body count. We are our own 1st responder, not surprisingly, no blood in the hallways in the above examples. Just like the concern over the guns in trunk bill, or guns in bar bills.

  25. I did it say they were against it. My point was the teachers I know don’t want to carry and want to co cern themselves with teaching. They don’t want to be thinking about being armed. Some may be for it, some may be opposed to it. Just because a teacher is opposed to the bill doesn’t make them anti-2A. It just means they don’t feel that arming teachers is the solution. I know that there are teachers that want to carry. Most, if not all, of us carry on a regular basis. We do it because it is our right. We do it to be able to defend ourselves or our loved ones. But we don’t necessarily walk out of the house every day thinking “will today be the day I have to defend the children in my care” and “please Lord, let my aim be true and let my will be strong”. That’s a big difference, and something an armed teacher will likely do. It’s one more thing a teacher has to think/worry about that is not education of their children. LEOs likely leave the house with that thought. Former LEOs might as well.

  28. Gov doesn’t have to sign it. Unless he vetos, it becomes law in 10 days without signature.
    1 point
  29. Even if this bill passes the House, and Senate IMO the Govenor will NOT sign it. Deerslayer, the reason other teachers don't want guns in the school is simply FEAR of guns. IF an SRO can be trained to carry a gun to protect children in schools, a teacher can be trained just as well. Now that is a "common sense" gun law. This will be all over soon.

  30. And this is where the ATF will play pigeon chess. (If you don't know what pigeon chess is, pigeon chess is playing chess with a pigeon. Even if you beat the pigeon at chess, he's going to $#!t all over the board and tell everyone else he won). I expect that they will try to make examples out of a few (otherwise) law abiding citizens. A savvy defendant won't be able to recall exactly what he paid for it and know whether or not he is actually making a profit due to inflation and whatnot . But I'm the process is going to spend so much money in legal fees to clear his name that he will never to a private transaction again. The silver lining here is that it gives gun guys the ability to say "sorry honey, I just can't sell any guns, it's too risky."

  31. I had the 2nd ugliest car in my whole HS. It was a light green 1971 Dodge Coronet that had been wrecked by the PO. It had a white passenger front door, a dark green right fender, and some genius had tried to peel off the white vinyl top, but got lazy and never finished. It only had 1st and 2nd gear (3rd and reverse were both out). I paid $175 for that car and drove the wheels off of it. My friends called it the booger-mobile and I loved that car. It was surprisingly fast with that 318 V8 in it.

  37. The answer to this is: "What's stopping them (or SROs for that matter) from doing so now? Concealment is a form retention. Teachers are not required to break up fights. (I do as a personal perrogative, but that calculus would change if I were armed at the time.
    1 point
  38. Why can't the teacher simply protect himself in a school? That is what I do at church. Been doing it since TN passed the Concealed carry laws years ago. You guys are worry warts! Edited to add; How is it working now? By all means pass the law.

  39. Just putting this out there...I was talking about this with a school resource officer last night. I learned that most of them are not in favor of this bill because they're concerned about what might happen if an angry armed teacher has to be fired and if the teacher has to break up a fight in a crowded hallway and loses control of their weapon in the scuffle. I don't lend much credence to the first argument. Carry permit holders on average are typically the model of what being a law-abiding citizen looks like. I can't say I haven't thought about that second argument, especially in a HS scenario, but weapon retention would surely be part of the required training.

  40. The bill wouldn't force anyone to do anything. It would just allow teachers who chose to carry to have an option if properly credentialed and trained.

  41. I picked up a Tisas 2011 last week. Paid a little over $900 for it locally. It came with 2x17 round mags and a bushing wrench I'll probably never use. Trigger was 5.5# out of the box so I adjusted it to about 3# before taking it to the range. It fed and fired fine about 200 of my reloads, which were 135gr coated lead running about 1050 FPS. The only issue I had was brass to face. It would consistently put ejected cases on top of my head or in my face. I tightened up the extractor tension a bit but no dice. I reprofiled the ejector tip and now it ejects properly. Accuracy was good, easy to put them in one hole at 10 yards. Sight regulation was right on for my particular load but the rear sight gap was slightly wider than I’d like. Unfortunately, the rear sight seems like a unique dovetail so it might be difficult to replace it with a different aftermarket sight. Springfield Prodigy mags worked as well as the Tisas mags. Slide lock back was consistent with the Tisas mags, can’t remember about the Prodigy mags. The barrel uses a Clark-Para style ramp. The top of the ramp had a sharp rollover but it didn’t seem to impede feeding. The throat was long and a 9mm Manson finishing reamer removed no metal at all (the Prodigy required reaming). The bullet profiles I tend to use in my reloads will stick in barrels with short throats (like FN 509s) unless I load extra super short, so I'll ream the barrels with a finish reamer to cut a proper throat in them. Fortunately the Tisas shop thinks like I do :D One pet peeve was the sharp corner of the frame right below the serial number. Other manufacturers bevel this edge to varying degrees, but the Tisas had none at all. Depending on your grip and hand size, this could be a problem. If you have a high enough grip, this edge will rub a hole in you before too long. The manual said nothing at all about what red dot sights are supported, or what the optic screw pitch was. The slide seems to be cut directly for the mini RDS direct mount, the RMRCC pattern that is shared with the Holosun 407k/507k sights. I have a lot of 2011s of different flavors, and I’m favorably impressed with the Tisas DS, I give it two thumbs up.

  42. We get this question a lot.  A member wants to buy a TGO sticker or a Benefactor membership but doesn't have a PayPal account, doesn't want one, and isn't going to sign up for one.     No problem!   Having an account with PayPal is not necessary at all.  Members can still purchase these things and merely use the PayPal interface to process your Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover card just like they would anywhere else.  And we are working on adding another credit card processor to the mix as well.       But can I just mail a check instead?   Unfortunately, no.  Electronic transactions help us keep things automated and less burdensome for the folks behind the scenes.  Sorry.
