  1. This sort of thing pisses me off. This was an entirely avoidable tragedy if not for some idiot who thought it would be funny to hand an inexperienced shooter the biggest damn gun he could without even thinking "hey, let's be on the safe side and load just one round in the thing in case she loses control of it." Youtube is full of videos where the person being filmed managed to avoid this poor woman's fate by nothing more than sheer luck. The person who put that gun in her hands should be charged with negligent homicide as this outcome was entirely foreseeable.

  2. Veterans, it would be nice to see all your unit or combat patches from your service days, on your avatars.  I've changed my avatar to my combat patch from Desert Storm, the 20th Engr Bde (Airborne) from Ft. Bragg, NC.

  4. Sigh. Guys, the topic is NOT   - type of image - size of image - storage of image on TGO - storage on offsite provider - your bandwidth - TGO bandwidth - the Super Bowl   The topic is about the link to a picture that many pages use. The images are still JPEG, GIF, or PNG, but since the link does not name them as such, the PB Board software, or the settings within it, disallow them for embedding within a post, even though browsers parse them just fine:   Again, OP's example:   https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/111-2009/s396/diagram   (simple PNG image)   Here is another, picked at random:   https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRP_S2LQ4fxylY50bDWgcDs5HvqLS-ne3XX3HDvLw8yiT3LZ4sILQ   (simple JPEG image)   Again, to clarify, these type URLs can not be put in a post, but of course display fine if you simply click on them.   - OS

First one I've shot with this rifle and figured I needed to test it. TC Impact, 250gr Shockwave bonded/110gr Blackhorn 209, 50yds.

  7. Driving down Kingston Pike this afternoon I notice a small sign saying "Armory" on the main signage for Windsor Square (where Bailey's and Movies 7 are).  I whipped in and sure enough there is a new gunstore right next to the theater.   Place is called Guardian Armory.  Apparently they just opened up a few days ago.  Not a huge selection but dude said he had several hundred more guns than what was on display.  They were still hanging rifles on the walls.   Prices seemed decent and transfers are $20 + TICS.   They did have seven 500 round boxes of Thunderbolts for $35/each limit of one.  $45/each if you want more.   That's all I got.

  11. Wow, Bersaguy and GuitarX. My wife and I, and our college buddies used to eat there a LOT because we went to church near there. It was our "spot." We were very sad to learn of those events and prayed for the families of those lost over the next few months. We never knew the chain treated their families so poorly. We rarely get to that side of town now that we live in Smyrna, but any time we pass there, we remember the event. It seems pointless and petty coming from a nobody like me, but if either of you have any contact with the families any more, please let them know that others in Nashville have been praying for them.

  16. Even though I didn't tag a deer this morning, it was one of my finest mornings I've had in the woods in many years. It started off with a little spike buck and a couple does milling around right at shooting light. The little buck was the only one that gave me a shot but I chose to let him live another day. I felt pretty good about that. Squirrels were very busy this morning putting away their winter stores and a couple of chipmunks got in a little action. Also right at daylight, I was serenaded to three hoot owls that wanted to "laugh" at the whole world. About then, two distant Coyotes announced their presence in the deer woods. At this point in time I cared very little about killing a deer. I was just amazed at God's work and the blessing I have to had experienced it. What an awesome world we live in! I hope I'm equally entertained tomorrow.   DaveS

  17. Can anyone recommend a good 1911 gunsmith in the Paris, TN. vicinity?   Was having a problem with magazines not wanting to insert, so guess what...   Got a bag-o-gun now! Watched a lot of You Tube videos and say to myself, I can do that, yea right. With over ten hours trying to get the sear spring back in and operational, no luck. I'm doing it exactly like the videos show, evidently I'm not.   Anyway, this morning when it got light, I did find the frame of the Kimber a dozen yards or so in the weeds outside the garage window. The window repairman will be here tomorrow to replace the window the gun dropped through.

  27. I honestly don't know where you're finding any .30-30 leverguns for more than $350! Gunbroker, GOC, Armslist etc.... There are literally hundreds of Marlin 336s & Winchester 94s to be had around $300-350. Every pawn shop here in Tullahoma had at least 2. Tollivers in Manchester had 7 Marlins last time I was in there.

  28. Guys, forget the citizenship thang, Cruz hasn't got a chance in the world of being elected president. As much as folks on a predominately conservative website like to pipedream that the country is becoming conservative enough to elect him, or a Rand Paul, it just ain't so.   All the GOP presidents since WWII have been moderately right of center, and yes that includes the great ex flaming liberal Reagan. You'd have to look way back to Goldwater to find anyone in the ballpark of a Cruz.   Things will have to become quite dire in this country, The Big Pain for most everyone, before a true conservative would have a chance for the presidency. Matter of fact, I think things would have to go so south that elections might actually be suspended for some duration.   - OS

  32. Sorry to hear that. It's a shame for her to loose her life during what should have been a fun day at the range. I've seen this almost happen both in person & on the internet. Unfortunately youtube is full of videos where some poor girl's boyfriend talks her into shooting his .44 or .500, etc. just to watch her, often painful, reaction. I've seen several vids of girls shooting & the gun flips over toward her face or flys out of her hands.

  36. Some faulty assumptions here.  First, the assumption that Obamacare was all about insuring the uninsured.  It wasn't, it is a vehicle for the government to nationalize health care. Second, that fixing the website will fix the problems.  It won't - once the websites are running and the employer mandate becomes effective, between 1/3 and 1/2 of Americans will find they cannot afford insurance.  That's part of the plan - those who cannot afford insurance will be paying the penalty.  Let's not forget that Obamacare guts Medicare Advantage.  'Single Payer' will become a necessity.   Lastly, don't confuse access to insurance with access to healthcare.  Many facilities and healthcare professionals will not be able to continue in the Obamacare business environment.       One reason there are so many RINO's willing to buy off on Obamacare 'under the table', is the rising costs of medicare, social security and various welfare programs.  The moneys paid into the system are long since gone, leaving the government with a whole bunch of IOU's.    Impossible to pay back retirees that paid in without destroying the vote-buying handouts.  Obamacare helps from both ends of the problem - both reducing and transferring healthcare costs from the government to the people, and reducing the life expectancy and associated costs of those who are no longer a good source of revenue.  The entrenched elite of both parties have no particular desire to get off the gravy train they've been riding the last 65 years or so.     Other countries have a government.  In the US the federal government has a country.

  37. The content of the CCC today is irrelevant.  What is important is that everyone will be required to teach the same curriculum.  And the folks who determine that curriculum will have immense power.  Does anyone seriously doubt that over time, that curriculum will shift to the Socialist mantra?   As for me, whenever I hear that ANYTHING should be centrally managed, I am against it.  Freedom of choice in anything is always a better course.    These days, I strongly believe that sending your child to a government school is a form of child abuse.

  38. You might want to consider the Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 40 cal Glock magazines. It's already small, lightweight, short barreled and has the added benefit of interchangeable magazines with Glock 40 cal handguns. It retails for less than $400 when you can find it.  I don't know if the 40 caliber has enough stopping power for 100 yards. Someone else will have to comment. If you go to www.theKTOG.org website, you'll find ways to add a scope to the Sub 2000 and retain it's folding ability.  Folded, it can be carried in a backpack or a very large laptop bag.

  40. I disagree; I don’t think it could happen to me. Police respond to calls and they check people out… period; that’s what they do and it won’t change. I don’t open carry, but if I did and a cop stopped me I would show him my HCP and be on my way. That’s not a choice I have; it’s the law of this state. However, even if I could I would never disrespect a Police Officer doing his job by refusing to answer his questions and show ID. I have responded to many citizens calls about suspicious people on everything from “They just don’t look like they belong around here” to “We have had a rash of burglaries in the area and I am concerned about this guy” to “The guy looks elderly and lost”. None of those things are against the law and any of them may cause you to be approached by the cops. Carrying a gun doesn’t get you immunity from being stopped if someone thinks you are suspicious and it never will. But hey, he got an out of court settlement (I’m guessing with no acknowledgement of wrongdoing on anyone’s part) that allowed him to buy a new rifle; win for him.

  41.   This is interesting, IMO. At first it sounded like the run-of-the-mill hot shot OC'ing to cause trouble and create a lawsuit. Then more facts made is sound like a completely innocent guy getting harassed by bad cops. Now, the idea of surreptitiously bringing a recorder with you on a routine walk sound like it's back in the former camp again. I'm interested to hear more about why anyone would think they may need to record a conversation while exercising in the park.

  42. All, I am closing this thread down. It is obvious that this isn't a "Kwik" incident and while the discussion is welcome and some of the information obtained/assumed was incorrect, I don't want TGO to become a jump off point for folks out of state to come in here just to bash us without any further contribution. You guys from GA are welcome to stick around and participate in the forum - in fact, please do so - but if you're only here to jump on our users, even when they may be wrong, please refrain.    One thing to remember is we're all in this fight together. If you're one of the "poke the bear" types remember that your actions have consequences that may or may not be in the best interest of the entire gun carrying community, e.g. Kwik. If you're not one of those type and you are simply being harassed by folks that don't know the law then we're behind you 100%.    Just so nobody gets the wrong idea, this thread hasn't degenerated to the point I'm talking about but I'm going to stop it before it does since I see several new members here who joined only to respond to this thread.    Oh, and Airborne! You know who you are.

  45. You will not get Constitutional Carry in Tennessee until the current Republican leadership finds somewhere else to be.  The Progressive triad that is Haslam, Harwell and Ramsey deem ANY firearm related issue as bad for the business of garnering large donations from Big Business and the Chamber, (including Farm Bureau and AGC) by doing their will.  It is a power and control thing on their part, the more they can control us, the more they can collect, the more power they can hold.
