  1. I ordered 2 Versa Max2 holsters from Milt Sparks on the 12th of October, I honestly did not expect to get them until March, I was pleased to get a call today saying they will ship tomorrow, early Christmas present for me!

  6. Well, for some reason they had an armed deputy at the Colorado school, who was able to confront the shooter in less than two minutes. That brought about a quick resolution. Don't know if they had armed deputies as resource officers in Colorado prior to sandy Hook, but it sure goes to support a good guy with a gun on hand to oppose a bad guy with a gun as THE answer.

  9. Dave, with all due respect you sound like the people that want to disarm us. The world is a dangerous place. If a person is willing to give their life (and most mass shooters are), and they want to kill your child they will do it no matter what kind of barriers the schools put up. They can’t lock down a school so the kids can’t get out; you were a fireman you know that. So someone opens a door; it’s that simple. They could also do it at your home while you watch. My children didn’t grow up fearful of everything around them and I don’t want my Grandchildren to grow up that way either. Your children have far greater possibilities of being killed traveling to and from school than by a school shooter. But we don’t transport them in tanks…. Yet.

  11. Just once, I wish one of these companies MDA is going after would make a public statement about how they welcome legal carry in their stores and then follow up by posting pro carry signs in all locations. They could then publicly thank MDA for bringing the matter to their attention.

  13. It's easy to build a reasonably safe and cheap backstop that is mobile and self contained. I used a 5 gallon bucket filled with compacted rubber mulch.(compacted via vibration from an air hammer while filling) At the bottom of the bucket is a 1/4" plate steel circle the diameter of the bucket of plate steel to keep any rounds from exiting the bottom of the bucket.(none of my test rounds fired from my pistols at point blank even hit the steel) The bucket now has a standard lid on it to keep the rubber smell in(wife wasn't a fan) but it sits in a corner next to my gun safe and anytime I have to pull a trigger for dis-assembly or any other reason the gun muzzle is pointed into the bucket regardless of how many times I've checked that it's empty. It think the total cost of the bullet trap was $25 Mulch was this stuff below, the rest should be pretty self explanatory.

  18. Went this morning, passed 4 does on the corner lot at 5:30 feeding. Sat until 9:00 and climbed down. This afternoon, made it to the stand by about 1:30. Just after 4:00 I spotted my first buck while hunting this year. He was almost 150 yards away and I did not have a shot. I grunted and bleated at him, he would look up towards me and then go back to eating. I kept willing him to step about 10 feet to the right and clear the branches, and after 15 minutes he finally took a few steps. It wasn't perfect, I had about an 8 inch window to place the shot...basically I missed but still got the buck. I was aiming at the top of his shoulder, should have went shoulder into his neck. At the shot all I saw was branches waving and thought I clipped one, he dropped so quickly I missed seeing it. But then I saw the legs kicking...Walked over there and found blood all over his head and neck. Once I started looking, I missed the shot but nailed him between the ear and antler base - kind of scrambled his brains. In this picture you can make out the hole...Barnes Tipped Triple Shock 180 grain from my 30-06. I am not sure if I clipped a branch and got a lucky ricochet or if I pulled the shot.

  20. First off, thanks to all who gave me advice in my Mossberg Maverick thread. If you read it, you know my wife and daughter surprised me with the news that they were getting me a shotgun for Christmas. I added some money to it and came out with my new Remington Express Tactical 870 12 gauge! It has 18.5 inch barrel and 6+1 capacity. Here it is and I LOVE it!

  22. I'm on another local site trying to sell a gun and it is amazing the replies I'm getting from all these people. It's like they either don't know how to spell(or use spellcheck), or they just don't care anymore. I think texting is the problem. They send these cryptic messages by texting and I'm expected to translate them?   Maybe I'm just getting old. And the fact that I don't text. Well, I might send 5 a year from the deer stand. Even in those, I spell out every word.   Any other non-texters see what I'm talking about?   Glad to get this off my chest. Now I'm off to check my inbox for more "gems".

  23. Found these recently and got a good buy from a quasi estate sale. Model 11 Remington and a Marlin 39A. I tore down the 11 cleaned it up and it's in great shape. Cylinder with IC Choke. SN indicates manufactured in 1912. I'm going after the Marlin next. So much fun working on neglected but not abused guns. The Case 3 inch Sharktooth was was in with some ammo and cleaning supplies. Picked up four handguns in the deal too. Came with a 4 Power Weaver.

  25. Joseg and refleks, thanks for the advice :) I really shouldn't have even gone out Saturday. I literally did all my shooting in 15 minutes. I crammed the range trip in between work and a social gathering, and was pretty ill-prepared. I was wwwaaayyyyy rushed... I don't even hardly remember taking time to control my breathing! The trigger blows... it's from a PSA kit. Heavy, a smidge of creep... maybe two smidges. I'll fool with it some more after New Year's. I'm sure I'll shrink those groups at least in half with a less rushed trip to the range. After that I'll decide what to fix/upgrade next; either the trigger or optic.

  27. My $0.02, keep it stock, keep it clean. You will put a bunch of money into a almost 30 year old truck, for what? You will not get a lot of pep out of the 305. When you go with bigger wheels and tires you put a LOT of strain on the running gear, and brakes, putting in a set of gears and you will take out U joints. Keep it clean, I like the way it looks.

  29. How would he not get in school with a gun - what would prevent it? Unless you want to go to extremes it isn't difficult for anyone to walk into a school with a firearm and if you do go to extremes; who is going to pay for it???   That's why we need armed SROs and we also need to make it legal and encourage teachers/admins to carry as well (as some states have done)...we need to repeal the ridiculous and completely useless "School Gun Free Zone" laws. If you want to stop school shootings then the answer is to have as many good people with firearms ready to respond as quickly as possible.

  35. http://www.sacbee.com/2013/12/09/5986084/federal-judge-says-california.html   ROSEVILLE, Calif., Dec. 9, 2013 -- /PRNewswire/ -- In a rejection of California Attorney General Kamala Harris' stance on the rights of law-abiding gun owners, Senior Federal District Court Judge Anthony W. Ishii denied Harris' motion for summary judgement today in a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by The Calguns Foundation, indicating that California's 10-day "waiting period"gun laws are likely unconstitutional.   "The fact that a federal judge saw these laws for what they are -- baseless restraints on the exercise of a fundamental civil right -- is monumental," explained Gene Hoffman, Chairman of The Calguns Foundation. "California's waiting period laws for those who own guns is not Constitutional and this order really underlines the point." In his order, Judge Ishii said that Harris has "not presented sufficient evidence to show that the [10-day waiting period laws] passes either intermediate or strict scrutiny." About the laws being challenged in the case, named plaintiff Jeff Silvester of Hanford, California, said, "I have a license to carry a loaded firearm across the State. It is ridiculous that I have to wait another 10 days to pick up a new firearm when I'm standing there in the gun store lawfully carrying one the whole time." "This is certainly an exciting development in Second Amendment case law," noted Brandon Combs, an individual plaintiff in the case and the Executive Director of The Calguns Foundation. "If our Constitution means what it says, then California's gun waiting period laws have to be overturned and law-abiding people must be allowed to exercise their rights without irrational infringements." Regardless of the final decision at the district court, the case is virtually certain to end up at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and possibly even the Unite States Supreme Court. "Cases like this one will define the limits of government regulations on firearms and Second Amendment rights," said Combs. "We look forward to making sure laws like California's waiting period are properly scrutinized by the courts." Judge Ishii was appointed to the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of California by President Bill Clinton in 1997. A full copy of the Court's December 9, 2013, order may be viewed at http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/?p=1683. 37. Let me preface this by saying I've never shot my AR at anything farther than 200 yards and I don't have a Scope on it.   But I have a 1:9 twist 20" barrel and it seems to be fine with anything from 40gr-65gr. I never tried a heavier round than that.

I have worn G-shock for about 13 years.  I have only had 3 of them in that time.  The only reason I got new ones was because the band failed (and I found one that looked better).  I wore my first one in the Army and it fell with my gear 1500 feet on an airborne op.  I found it and wore it for another 3 years.

  40. Check. Double check. Hell...Triple check.  You just can't not do it.   But some people just can't not pull the trigger before checking the gun is safe.   So sad for the families of these two young men. They will never be the same.

  42. I said another prayer for all the families of those that lost loved ones a year ago The loss of a child never goes away and yea it does ease slightly but never goes away. We move on with our lives with our lost loved ones still in our hearts. Today will be a trip to the cemetery to decorate my sons grave as I have done every year since 1990. The only thing that has changed is now I decorate my sons grave and my wife's grave also since 1997. Lost but never forgotten.

  43. Well, I've been busy and didn't post any pics.  Sorry about that.  I'll get some posted in the next few days, hopefully.     The tree fell exactly where it was aimed.  Due to me being out of practice, it wasn't aimed perfectly, but it didn't matter.  It didn't hit the house or the small building.     I did let (request, actually) my friends who have more recent experience do most of the cutting.     The 36" saw made all the difference in the world.  Saved a ton of work.  Many Thanks to Spots and his Dad for that.     The one thing that surprised me was when the tree fell.  Having been dead for less than a year, I expected it to be more green.  But when it hit the ground, the limbs were pretty brittle.  It pretty much flattened out on the ground.  Saved me a lot of limbing and bucking, so that's not a bad thing.
