One of my kids got me this. It's larger in size than most but is also different than any challenge coin I've ever had. Money is donated to the Mike Murphy foundation. Even the postage had his image on it. Kind of cool. Figured I'd post it for the group. They sell them for 20 bucks on his foundation site. In my time it's been my pleasure to talk to a number of folks who either came here from somewhere else, or whose parents or grandparents did. One of the things that struck me is that these people came here to be citizens of the United States. One of the things that seemed to be important to them was to be able to speak and read English in order to fit in to the culture. Now we stress our differences. It seems counterproductive to me. It's like the US is becoming Balkanized.4 points

Up to date ones and the other new one on your bench, just to the left there on the shelf , there it is........... "Rhodewarriors Reloading Notebook" every setup , every session every time you open a can of powder record your load data there are forms online to help you set up but basically Caliber firearm used round count Date Bullet make/weight Casing/trim length/times trimmed(rifle) Powder/LOT # /charge weight OAL/crimp Primer Purpose Results (group size,reliability,flash/recoil etc.) you can tab by caliber or by firearm personal lot # (example M1917#3, M-586/Match AR153Gun) Very important so you can see what was done and if it went right or wrong would hate to have found the "pet load" and forgot exactly what was done to get it as you change ANYTHING in a loaded round and it changes the dynamics completely also handy if you want to experiment crimp settings or OAL for accuracy or just see if mfg of bullet makes a difference to the Results column some guns are sensitive some not so much My S&W M-14 is pickier about ammo than my S&W M-586 same loads different results the 52-2 a whole different beast easier to keep round count if you only have 1 firearm in that caliber and you see accuracy drop off at a given round count if it always drops at 600 or so for a rifle then you know about 550 or so plan a cleaning some folks plan recoil spring changes every so many rounds etc. SIERRA LEE and LYMAN are good for me and I usually download the powder mfg. booklets a load gets worked up for each caliber and firearm the book is a good starting point but each gun will act differently Lets say for instance a load that works great in my M1917 will "pattern" out of my Garand or my 03A3 but the Garand load will shoot OK in the A3 but be hot in the 1917 (slight flattening of primers) so the ammo boxes are marked for each rifle a cover page with powder and primer lot #s is also a good idea as sometimes there are recalls/warnings and you can verify at a glance without digging into each caliber to see if you have any of the suspect components loaded up. you could also record the factory ammo lot #s if you have any and perhaps chronograph results if you want to try "cloning" a load Enjoy your new sport and this fun part of it we call reloading, John P.S. only 1 component on the bench at a time keep the rest stored away you DO NOT want to mix Bullseye with WW231 or mix a rifle powder by accident it never ends well.. same goes for leaving powder in the measure put it back in the can when you are done then gauge/box the loaded ammo NEVER close enough Never I think maybe... this is a game of absolutes when in doubt pull them out( you have invested in a bullet puller I hope) your hands aren't worth the batch of ammo that might/might not be loaded correctly either a double charge ( grenade) or a squib ( barrel obstruction ) the pressures some of these rounds operate at are in the thousands of PSI and overloads are even hotter I do not say this to scare you but make you aware of the inherent danger if you do not use proper procedures but by being focused and methodical the folks here have many, many years of experience and many thousands of rounds safely loaded and shot ask any questions you like we all sat at a bench with a "new press in a box" at one time4 points
Don't forget something to protect the cojones
Well of course. I double up the nut flap that hangs down from my body armor. Also put those side plates in, so I'm only lugging around an extra 45 lbs of armor. Problem is the kids complaining about wearing theirs everywhere they go, but I tell them, "where do you draw the line on safety, kids?" My son usually responds with, "wearing f'ng body armor everywhere we go, dad.... that is where I draw the f'ing line." Kids just don't get it I suppose. They'll learn to fear everything someday, I hope. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk4 points

I don't have body armor, I think that is 'overkill', it is hot as hell inside my tank, and I simply go thru the drive-thru for everything I need, or have it delivered, thrown across the moat and over the wall.3 points

America is a multicultural nation. I have no issue whatsoever with America the Beautiful being sung in multiple languages. It representative of the diversity that makes up this nation. On a slightly different topic, what i have issues with from the super bowl is the fact that the NFL is a 25 billion dollar a year money generating machine that pays no taxes.2 points

I thought it was disrespectful. Yes, America is multinational and cultural but English is our language. Other countries have their own language and songs. In English is how the song should be sang IMO.2 points
hording is what making it short for the rest of us.
According to this logic I helped the problem by shooting about 200 rounds of 22lr on this crappy day. I know a lot of guys have a "magic number" they need in stash, I personally do not. I'm not saying I don't have 22lr a'plenty. What I'm saying is I'm not going to piss and moan anymore about something that I personally cannot fix. I'm going to buy what I can when I find it, and keep shooting with my wife and family, enjoying the sport I love. At a certain point the stress you guys are causing yourselves over the rimfire ammo situation is counter productive at best. I hate scalpers as much as the next guy, but piss on them, I came here to party :)2 points

This is exactly why I carry every time I'm in church. Christianity and the church are getting pushed more and more toward the fringe nowadays by our society. It's only a matter of time before Christians are persecuted and this type of thing happens more often (that's Bible, not tin foil hat stuff). There are at least 7 that I know of that carry in our church, including our pastor ;)2 points

Wearing a vest and getting in a shoot out or even defending yourself... Your not going to fend very well in court. Good luck with that. If you need a vest or personally feel the need, you should be carrying a much bigger weapon than a pistol, and at that point, you probably have a lot more to worry about.2 points

So I couldn't stay out of the woods too long! This is day one of my LBL coyote hunt. Got a buddy and his 16 yr old brother with me. Second set of the day at the 4 minute mark 3 came in hot and busted the 16 yr old as he mounted the gun. 3 dogs, 3 shots and no fur busted. Made about 5 other sets today and no luck. Gonna beat em up pretty hard tomorrow and head home after lunch. Hoping tomorrow will be more productive. Nothing like 3 dogs full tilt at you to break the winter blues. And it's all on GoPro vid!1 point

Unless a person just wants the rush of coming face to face with a wild Russian boar to get a shot on a possible trophy of a lifetime, a "meat hog" is the way to go! I will say that coming face to face with a 300 + pound boar snapping his jaws and teeth at you, is an experience you won't forget anytime soon! It's a rush from hell!!!! And, for a real rush, find you a sow with piglets and chase down and catch one of the little piglets and let it start squeeling like there is no tomorrow. That will test your running skills! Don't ask how I know this...lol Dave1 point

Sad for the family, but I have absolutely no sympathy for him though, this may sound harsh but anyone who voluntarily sticks a needle in their arm in order to "get high" deserves whatever they get. That said ... I thought he was a talented actor, it is a shame that he flushed all of his success down the toliet.1 point

I took the measurements from the 42 and compared them to my smith shield in 40, the shield is pretty much the same size and thickness. the grip on the 42 is a little bit shorter but big deal. You can't stick the 42 in a wallet holster like you can a keltec or a LCP or other pocket pistols, I think I will stick to my shield. almost the same size and twice the stopping power of a 380. Oh, I am a huge glock fan, and I have been waiting for them to make a 380, this isn't what I was picturing.1 point

It's rare for me to go to the theater these days. Hollywood has been bereft of original ideas for at least 10 years now. I own approx. 1500 DVDs, and most of the movies I own have not seen the inside of a theater in at least 20 years. If it ain't in B&W or original Technicolor, I ain't got much use for it. Of course there are exceptions, but to say that Turner Classic Movies (and AMC in the old days) is one of my favorite TV channels speaks volumes for my taste in film.1 point

oh well. when you do drugs, bad things will and can happen to you. i just don't understand some people. you got fame, money, on tv/movies, and got the world by the tail and you are a dope head. to the family, sorry for your loss. but for him, oh well.1 point

Came across an add in the ammo section on armslist today with a photo of 3 guys waiting at walmart for 22 ammo and talking how they were going to buy it all and sell it for double . The guy who placed the add was pissed and I imagine the 3 in the pic will be when they see their pic on armslist.1 point

Movies use to be something my wife and I went out to every weekend, then 1 mo, and now 1 year. I use to think it was due to our small kids, but recently attending the Lone Survivor taught me it was the costs most likely, i.e. ~$30 just for 2 people, and that is sharing 1 coke and 1 popcorn plus the movie tickets. I don't know how teenagers can even have a Friday night date anymore. A good comparison is attendance to NASCAR races, NCAA football games, and possibly more. I see and hear that venues like those and others are still challenged. When I was in my 20s, I went to each and every Bristol race, Bush and Winston cup, and few at Atlanta and others. I use to attend every home UT football game, and most other major events. I find these still just as enjoyable, but just too expensive to attend. I like my NASCAR, but on radio. I like my UT football, but on radio or TV. The others, I have faded away from. I have to cut corners somehow, because everything is so high. I also have cut satellite to cut costs and thanks to work, I no longer have own my personal cell phone, I have theirs. I don't trade cars as often as I use to, my truck is 12 years old, and my wifes van is approaching 6 years old. We bought both new. I sure do enjoy not having any car payments though, but I may have been on paid for coolaide for so long, I likely can never have a car payment again. I realize I am no longer 20 years old, 30 for that fact. I am in fact very close to 50. So is it society in general that has changed, the industry maybe, or just my buying habits have changed due to my age? I don't know. I do think the 2008 like 1929 had a major effect on the psyche on people and money. My grandmother was 10 when the great depression hit, but in her old age she was just so price conscious of everything and always had money stored up. I once asked her why, and she said I will probably never know what hard times are, but anyone who lived through the great depression will always save money at every opportunity and store money. I know I strayed from the OP, but I think there is more going on than just Hollywood changes.1 point

Finally got around to working on it a little more. I hit it a couple more times with the steel wool and polished it with the dremel and a cloth wheel with some polishing compound. Seems to have cleared it up. I'll update if anything changes. I appreciate the input from everyone.1 point

Yep, I would guess if you had the funds to go through enough to impact the barrel; the cost of a new barrel would be pretty insignificant.1 point

I forego the armor in lieu of dual wield pistols. You can only take so many attachments and perks so I prefer the extra firepower, since I'm more focused on getting the score streak. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

" On another note, of the EMTs out there, have any of you actually treated or are aware of a colleague treating a sucking chest wound with needle decompression? I'm just a knuckle dragger, but I figured that'd be something that could wait until the doc stuck a hose in the patient. " I am an ER Nurse/SWAT Medic and I agree with everything you said above. If one of my guys got stabbed or shot in the chest and I suspected a pneumo, unless I knew that transport was unavailable (which I can't ever see being the case) there is no way I would ever use this thing. Slap a chest seal on it and let the ER doctor insert a chest tube.1 point

The 6x45 had a wave of popularity in the '80's due to the lack of stopping power of the 55gr 5.56mm M193 ammo. The advent of faster twist barrels for 5.56mm allowing heavier bullets pretty much killed the cartridge at that time. It's an appealing concept. As noted above, conversion is inexpensive and easy to do. To me, the biggest limitation is still the limited powder capacity of the basic 5.56mm case. I went with the 6.5 Grendel as the most versatile cartridge available in the basic AR15 platform. Fortunately, I bought a bunch of the Wolf brass-cased ammo when it was cheap and available. If more ammo doesn't become available in the next six months, I'll have to stop shooting it for a while.1 point
