This. I think it's just part of the growing process. It definitely is different from when it was smaller and everyone knew everyone. Now it's hard to joke with folks or be humorously politically incorrect without people getting bent out of shape or taking things too seriously. There's are benefits and drawbacks to both, but I do miss the former.10 points

Harold Smith is on his deathbed, knows the end is near. His nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons, are with him. So, he says to them: "Bernie, I want you to take the Mayfair houses." "Sybil, take the apartments over in Pall Mall ..." "Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the City Centre." "Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the Thames ..." The nurse is just blown away by all this, and as Harold slips away, she says , "Mrs. Smith, your husband must have been such a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property" Sarah replies, "Property? ... the asshole had a paper route!"6 points

Make them homemade from scratch like we do ! And I am not an old fart either . I have made my own biscuits all my life from scratch even when I was in my teens . My mom was and still is a great southern cook . And if you want , make extra that are raw and freeze them for a quick meal.5 points

We just got my wife a new car this weekend . She deserved it . We bought her last one 14 yrs ago new and she has been driving it the whole 14 years . So we went to find a new one. We had a great experience at Crest Honda in Nashville. No problems at all and the experience was great which is really rare for me when buying something so big like a new car. The salesman was cool and never hounded me at all. But at other dealerships that we went to were so so . Now this car is for my wife. She went to college and graduated later in life to be a teacher so she deserves something nice and besides her car was getting really old and she drives a good ways to school to teach and all. So I wanted her to pick what she wanted. I let her pick what she wanted. I wanted anything Japanese except Nissan. If it were up to me I'd have a Subaru with a longitudinal engine "layout" ( engine in regular placement and not sideways like a front-wheel drive) . She liked Subaru's but went with a Honda Accord. While looking at a different Honda dealership , the saleman asked me what I was looking under the car for and why I was doing this and that. I told him that when we buy a car we keep it for almost ever and I do all the maintenance so I needed to check the clearances and oil filter locations to see how hard it would be do change it and the belts and all. I then mentioned that I'd rather not have a front wheel drive car . He looked at me like I was crazy . He asked why and I explained my aggravation of transverse engines that are "sideways" with the belts and all being so hard to get to and replace. He then put on the " Honda commercial act" about how they hardly ever need work and this and that. I then told him that I still dont like front wheel drive cars and tranverse engines. He argued this and that and blah blah blah . I know they are there to sell a car that they have but dang , at least try to understand what the customer is saying. If I had it my way , my wife would be getting a Toyota Tacoma like mine with a FRAME and a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive with a 4WD option  So we went back to Crest Honda and my wife picked out her Honda . Crest Honda was really cool but the other places sucked butt. Ok I am off my soap box . :wave:4 points

I started hanging around again just recently, it's good to be back... and to know I was missed. My absence has nothing to do with TGO, was just a rough few years personally. I tell you who I miss, is Marswolf. Shannon was a good dude. As far as I'm concerned, he took a bullet for me.4 points

So here's my take on this whole thing.... :) Members come and go no matter if we're talking about forums, or Facebook, or car clubs, or churches, or pretty much anything made up of people. Why? Because people are inclined to change no matter how much they try to sell you on the idea that they are creatures of habit. It's just the way of life. Folks say they drift away because the forum "changed" and I say that forums change because vocal, frequent contributors drift away and are replaced by new, different, vocal frequent contributors. When the guard changes by natural attrition, the forum changes. That's only a bad thing if the new guard is made up of complete a-holes. I think we've managed to keep most of the a-holes at bay. Lately we cleaned house a bit and that seems to have made things better. ;)3 points

I once put a case of canned beer in the garage in the summer and forgot about it. A few days later I started hearing load bangs in the garage, so of course I locked and loaded to see what was going on. The cans exploded. Wife still reminds me about this when I hear noises, she says and I quote "sure you didn't leave the beer in the garage again". Keep in mind I haven't had a drink in 30 years!3 points

Bacon! It started out on the second shelf of the smoker but was moved to the top shelf so it could drip it's magical juices on the rest of the chicken, pork, rabbit, and hot dogs. Great Easter dinner3 points

Of course it would be a better round it’s faster. Surface area and mass mean nothing; only velocity. (New Physics) However, you should never carry anything that holds less than 25 20 17 15 rounds. 15 rounds of .50BMG is too heavy to carry around all day, especially if you have to swim during your evasive maneuvers.2 points

Sorry, I have to disagree with this statement. The cars of today are far superior to those of 30 years ago, in almost every way that matters. Corrosion resistance, gas mileage, power per cubic inch (or liter), reliability, handling and survivability in crashes are all much improved. Yes, the cars of today are technologically more complex, and many "shadetree" mechanics no longer have the tools or expertise to work on them, and the additional features and technology have made them more expensive, but virtually all parameters of a car's performance are in fact "better" than those manufactured in the past.2 points

Have you ever lived in a bad neighborhood where you didn't have an attached garage and had a work schedule that meant you got home after dark? I have. In fact, before I moved in there my grandmother had her purse stolen in broad daylight in the back yard - the same back yard I had to walk across when I got home from work. Before I had my HCP, with a crack house on the corner and drive-by shootings across the street (which, by the way, it took at least twenty minutes for LEO to respond to those shootings) it sure would have been nice to have been legally able to have my firearm in my car. Not to prevent a carjacking 'on the street', necessarily but to have for protection in case some low life decided I looked like a good target after arriving home one night (my great uncle and great aunt had their car stolen from that same back yard while they were eating Thanksgiving dinner with my grandmother - the cops found it stripped a few blocks away.) But, hey, if someone lives in a bad neighborhood and can't get an HCP either because they may not have $200 plus to spare or because they aren't yet 21, screw 'em. They deserve to get stabbed, robbed, beaten or shot, right? Have you ever gone fishing in a remote location? I have. There is a little public ramp/fishing area in Blaine, back off the beaten path. I was there one evening fishing, minding my own business, when a car with a couple of guys in it pulled in and parked at the other end of the gravel lot with their car facing me. No one got out and I didn't see any fishing poles, etc. sticking out of the windows or anything so I got a bad feeling. Tossed my fishing gear in the back of my truck and decided to leave. As I was crossing the parking lot, the car started and they attempted to block me from the little driveway that was the entrance and exit. Luckily, I learned to drive on gravel roads so I was able to just barely outmaneuver them (I was willing to ram them if necessary but that was no guarantee I would get out.) I have no idea why they pulled that stunt but, as that was also before I got my HCP, it sure would have been nice to have been able to have a loaded firearm in the vehicle. But, hey, incidences where you might need a gun just in your vehicle never happen, right? Wrong. Where I now live is very rural. Possibly remote, even, by some standards. There has been at least one body dumped under a bridge on a secondary road that I cross every day on the way to and from work. There are pull offs at both ends of that bridge where people pull off to fish and there are sometimes some pretty sketchy-looking characters there. Crime in the area is generally pretty low but it only takes getting killed once to pretty well ruin your day. With the constant rise in meth related crimes even rural areas where crime has traditionally been pretty low - maybe even especially rural areas - are not necessarily safe. To me, it would make perfect sense for a person to want to have a loaded firearm with them in their vehicle on such a commute even if they did not have an HCP and didn't want to carry everywhere. But, again, that doesn't fit with your world view so it must be stupid. Here is another aspect that no one is considering. Have you ever needed to go in some place where firearms are not allowed but had a non-HCP holding adult with you who decided to stay in the vehicle? Under the old law, that person could technically be in violation of the law if you left your loaded firearm in the vehicle with them. If I understand the way the car carry bill is written, under the new 'car carry' law (if Haslam signs it) they would have nothing to worry about. Yes, I prefer having my HCP and I prefer not having to leave a loaded firearm in my vehicle. That was one of the reasons many of us really wanted the law changed so we could keep our firearm on us when eating in a restaurant where alcohol is served. Still, I believe that having the option to keep a loaded firearm in the vehicle is preferable to not having any option for access to a loaded firearm outside of one's home, at all.2 points

Congratulations. You are a Wise man. Letting the wife pick her own is the best thing you can do. Ever. Period. It took me 20+ years and 3 vehicles for that to sink in. I used to pick everything we owned. Life is much simpler now. And usually more peaceful. After all, I am married.1 point

I've been MIA for the past several months. Life -- it's thick sometimes. Though I haven't really been active in that time, I have tried to lurk and poke my head in every so often. I do miss the playfulness, sense of community and banter that we all had here in the early days. I met a lot of friendly and great people through the forum. Strangely enough, a lot of the people I've met were nothing more than random strangers at the range, LGS or gun show that spotted me and said "hey, aren't you that guy from TGO?". I guess it happens when you're the only tactical gimp in a community of only a few hundred. I'm glad that someone has missed me. Screw the rest of y'all! :D1 point

I've done pretty good in the Wolftever Creek area. They move daily though. You just have to get out and find them every trip. I'll catch them in one location one day, go back and not catch anything there. They have been shallow though from 3 to 12 feet. I troll with a hair jig under a float usually set from 3 to 5 feet deep.1 point

Having been a car salesman and eventually marrying a former car saleswoman, that guy would have gotten his ass lite into by his sales manager. He should always smile and say oh yeah. People will buy a car from a salesman who they think is impressed by them and their car theories, possibly overpaying. There is a saying in the buisness, "Stay stupid". Never try to educate a buyer, you don't have time and they won't believe you. If you get a feeling that they like your particualr car for a particular reason go along with it. My wife always said to make money all she had to do was show cars, worthless talking just loses you money. Congratulations, it is hard to go wrong with a Honda, a Subaru, a Tacoma, or a Wrangler, they all hold value and are easy to get rid of.1 point

Nice to see you post again Eddie. I hope you are doing well. I don't think anyone could blame you for being scarce. I am sure I'd have lost my mind. And I miss Shannon a lot too. Its not that its a handgun or rifle, you have to consider the way the gun works. This pistol requires you to manually pull the hammer back before it will fire. And you should not pull the hammer back until the gun is pointed in the direction that you wish to shoot. It is not a cocked & locked gun -- you do not cock it until ready to fire. It is comparable to a lever action rifle. When you crank the lever the gun is cocked and a light trigger pull fires the gun. You don't keep a lever gun cocked all the time, you either chamber it and manually cock when in position or you keep it empty and cycle the lever when ready to shoot. I guess I am saying it is not dangerous because the only time these sorts of actions would be cocked is when facing downrange. And until they are cocked, the trigger pull is not a factor in any accidental or negligent discharge. The trigger pull for example has nothing to do with its ability to handle a drop etc. You can increase it if you prefer, sure. But if there is some safety concern, look at it critically before spending $$ on springs and gunsmith time or your own time. I have to feel that any safety fears on this gun are caused by not understanding something, because for the life of me I can't see how it would fire by accident since you have to pull that heavy hammer spring back to enable it and I have to assume no one would have it cocked and ready to fire outside of a safe downrange setup.1 point

That's on the individual though. If they don't want a permit then that is their business. I think we can look at other states which have permitless open carry and vehicle carry as examples of systems that work just fine. People still get permits who wish to travel out of state. Honestly, while I support Constitutional carry, I have no problem with keeping a permit system for the purpose of carrying in other states, and I support those other states to have their own laws governing carry. I don't live there so it isn't my business to say otherwise.1 point

I don't know any of them, but I hope they are doing fine. I have fallen away from some of the car detailing forums I used to be on all the time. But life happens, you get away for a while. When you come back (if you do) some thing haven't changed, others have. People change. Friends get banned or they also fade out. The entire experience changes. The very things that brought you there in the first place are either no longer in focus, or are no longer even talked about at all. Who knows. I'm sure there are good reasons.1 point

This is just a general statement and not directed at any one person. You can complain all ya want, but show me a doctor, lawyer, judge, carpenter OR mechanic that hasn't made a mistake and I'll call them a liar. If you expect every person you meet to be perfect, well, you are expecting too much. A tech working in a busy shop gets pulled ten different directions at any one time. Things happen and I can assure you that most mechanics are more disappointed that it happened than you are. If you can do a better job I recommend doing it yourself. But don't get mad or complain when you are charged to fix your mistakes. What most people don't know is this- A lot of the independent shops bring your car to the dealer without you ever knowing it. The dealer fixes it and the independent shop returns it to the owner and charges a little more. It happens! Try fielding calls every day and have Bubba asking "I got a code bla bla bla. What's wrong with this thang?" And then go back and remember exactly what you were doing before. 95% of the time all is good, the other 5% can cause a headache. These topics piss me off because there are good mechanic and bad mechanics (kind of like gun owners). There are bad mechanic in good dealers and independent shops, and there are good mechanics in bad dealers and independent shops. Not every shop and mechanic is perfect but that doesn't make them all terrible people. If a dealer/mechanic steals from you call them out and start a post about it. I'm going to start a stupid driver thread. I had an owner get mad at me the other day because he drove his vehicle with the oil light and "NO OIL PRESSURE STOP ASAP" text display on. This caused the engine and turbo to seize. When the service writer asked me to talk to the customer on the phone he started off with a " I know a lot about cars". If that were the case then he would have pulled over immediately. So all drivers must be stupid, right? No! The guy made a mistake. He tried to get to the next exit and it cost him. The guy at Mini made a mistake and it cost him. He saved the parts in hopes you would return. He more than likely got a butt chewing once you left. Smart people can make a mistake but dumb people keep making the same mistake. Not that it helps the OP but he probably won't let it happen again.1 point
