  1. You can get a more expensive one just for show. Some folks just like having cooler looking stuff. I'm on my 5th AR, because I have a problem.

  4. Quick PSA fellas! Make sure you have and use a Saftey Harness! Believe it or not, they do expire! I have been using one that came with a treestand and last year realized it had an expiration date of 2005!! Plus, there is a YouTube video of a guy hanging a lock on using the harness that came with a deer stand and it broke and he banged himself up pretty good. So spend $100 on a HSS or Muddy's because that's cheaper than obamacare.

  5. I think carrying either way should be up to the individual.....not the government. That being said I prefer not  to broadcast to the entire world that I'm armed. Like so many other things in life I feel it's nobody's business.

  6. Lots of inexperienced and foolish peeps out there doing dumb stuff, and I'm not just talking about guns. Every time I go into public, I see AT LEAST one person that makes me scratch my head and say "whaaat?" Lol. I'm not concerned about someone taking an OCer's gun out of the holster. If a BG wants a gun, there are lots of ways for that to happen. I just manage my gun and let others carry as they see fit. Unless someone's about to drop a gun off their belt without knowing it, I'm not going to say anything. I never use a full retention holster unless I'm in the woods or something and have a high level of activity. For my EDC, they're all open top holsters. I cc almost always unless I'm going to/from the woods

  7. I OC a lot. I live in a fairly rural area where a lot of folks have their permits, so it's not unusual to see OC here.   I will admit that I put my shirt over the grip on a regular basis when a store is fairly busy/crowded... not that so many folks really notice it to begin with. If it's semi-covered with a shirt, it's as good as IWB, in a sense, for most of the population's situational awareness. When I'm going into a larger area or out of state (especially out of state), I tend to conceal more often than not. I picked up a pocket 9mm for those occasions when I need to be more dressy or want to travel light and still want to carry.   We are privileged in this state to have a choice between OC or concealed, with an AG opinion to match. As long as a person walks, talks, and acts right, let them choose what and how is best for their own situation.   :2cents:

  8. I wouldn't worry about how a stranger carries. I don't know them or their situation so I'm not really one to judge whether it works well for them or not. Personally I think retention holsters are pointless if your not a cop, but I won't knock anyone for wanting or using one.

  9. I was in Walmart sometime back and my fly was open and exposed. It didn't take long for someone to stick their nose in my business and point it out.   Moral of the story: Keep your junk covered up to keep people out of your business unless you're trolling for something.

  10. If you don't want any attention while carrying, keep it concealed at all times. If you opt to carry in a manner which is partially or completely visible, then be prepared to receive attention periodically, most of which will not be positive or desired, and some of which may be quite dangerous. Legal or not, open carry is a bad idea. It should be legal everywhere and always, but practiced nowhere and never. If you feel otherwise then don't complain when you are the recipient of said "attention".

  13. I'm still with Red on this one. That's probably going to happen when you produce a few million (billion?) rounds of ammo a year, but I still think it warrants a notification to the manufacturer of the issue. Not to raise a stink, but simply let them know. If they offer some kind of compensation, cool. If not, no biggie.

  16. One more for the OP. The rifle you have is really great for the price. In fact, if I was forced to only own one AR15, that would be in the top few I'd be choosing from. Getting a super whizzbang AR15 is really just for show, kinda folks who have a classic car they keep looking nice, or the dude who spends his weekend getting his lawn and flower bed looking absolutely perfect. With the exception of people who are involved in shooting sports, you don't need much gun. Most of us here can't afford the amount of ammo it takes to shoot out a barrel, and if we did we could just buy a new barrel for a couple hundred bucks. So there is no logical reason why you need a more expensive AR. The one you have is not only nice, it will do everything you'll ever need it to do, except for look as cool as some of the douchebags on arfcom. Nothing wrong with having an expensive, cool looking AR. Many of us here do. But none of us will say that there is a logical purpose other than it being a friggin awesome dispenser of freedom sounds which make chicks hot and liberals wet their pants.

  21. First of all, an AR-15 is completely modular. Other than the slick side upper receiver, the sport will take any of the parts you wanna put on it. I doubt seriously that Smith and Wesson made any of the parts to begin with.   So... if you want a nicer handguard, just change it out. Until you want something with lots more accuracy, there's no need to upgrade to another gun. All you "may" gain is better reliability in battlefield conditions. For no frills, home defense reliability and accuracy, you would have a tough time fulfilling your needs any better with ANY other rifle.

  22. I'm building an AR now, but very slowly. The problem I'm having is figuring out what I want it to do that my M&P Sport can't do in MY hands.   A better handguard design (thinner and lighter), a better stock (I prefer fixed over carbine), or a better trigger (something like a Geissele would be cool) would make it more fun to shoot. I can upgrade my existing gun with these features and still be under $1000.   Owning a $4000 LWRC or even a $2000 Colt just doesn't do anything for me. It won't transform me into 2X or 4X as good of a shooter or be 2X or 4X as fun to shoot.

  27. What kind of pistol is he claiming no longer works? Was the deal done through TGO or another site? If it was done through TGO I might try to help you, if not you are on your own.   Also, did you guys complete a bill of sale? If not I would keep all communication you had, hopefully some of it was by text or email. I never hash out a deal over the phone until the basics are covered in some sort of written medium so there is a record. Deals made over the phone are too hard to prove or disprove. On TGO we do get involved when asked to but only if all communication is done through TGO. Too many times I have tried to mediate only to find out what one party was telling me was not true so our rule is if it isn't posted on TGO and the communications doesn't go through TGO we will not get involved even if there are texts or emails.   Buyers, sellers and traders do get "buyer's remorse" all the time. Any time I have had someone complain I would work with them as long as they are being reasonable but I would let them know right off the bat you are not going to trade back. And if it were me I would let them know you are not trading back through text or email that way if they try something hokey you have a record of it.   Legally, you are under no obligation to repair, replace or return anything to him. You do not even need to talk to him or try to resolve the problem for him. The sale of used items, as far as the law is concerned, are final unless there is a written guarantee. This is why I always recommend that both the seller and buyer meet at a range to ensure the gun works, especially expensive ones.

  41. If you represented the gun as in working condition, I would say you were morally and probably legally responsible to put him right. In case he's just "doing it wrong", you may want to meet somewhere and run a few rounds through it to verify whether it's working or not.   I would never claim something was sold "as is" unless I explicitly said so and had it written on the receipt. That's just a recipe for bad blood and there's way too many people like their drama in their lives.

  42. It's funny how nobody wants to develop their own loads anymore. When I was learning to reload, it was fun to experiment with different loads till I found the one my gun liked. Now I see this on all kinds of gun boards. People asking for the best load for their gun.   My opinion. Start with the suggested starting load and work up till you find one that you like.

On the other hand if the allegations are proven false those who filed the false report should be charged criminal as well as be forced to pay restitution for the damaged reputation.   Because he is a celebrity of sorts within the gun community they are going to run with this and shut him down.
