  1. FINALLY!!!First deer down of the season after 4.7 million hours invested lol. Can't post a pic because his rack is too big to get in the frame.... well, there's my hunting "He was <----> this big" story, but truth is he's a nice 7 pointer, biggest and coolest rack for me. He has crab claws on the main beams. Well, one had the tip broke off, but EXTREMELY happy today y'all! Pics when I get home. Here's the pictures, check out his crab claws. I think they are cool as hell. Like LukeE said, I could get it replaced at taxidermist, but he had to fight to break it so I'll do him justice and leave it as is. I would have liked to get a picture with it, but nobody to take it and didn't really have a great place to set the camera for a selfie. I'm sure I could have figured it out but I was too excited to think about anything else :)

  3. I have to vent a little here guys and I know that most of you can relate.  I go through this every year.  People expecting me to give them deer meat because I shot a deer.  I've gotten 5 so far this year.  Though that seems like a lot it will not last my family until next deer season.  If I can get 2 or 3 more I should be good.  I have a friend that helps me process a lot of the deer that I shoot and I give her whatever she wants and do it gladly because I'm very thankful for her help.  What bugs me are the people that don't want to come out and help with the skinning, quartering, deboning, and grinding, but want me to give them some deer meat, and they usually request the prime cuts.  I really think that most of the general population thinks "Oh he shot a deer, he's got more meat than he can ever use..."  I can't tell you how many people have told me that they will "take some tenderloin."  This deer meat is what I feed my family with throughout the year, none of these people asking for meat are hard up, most are better off financially than my family is.  If the shoe were on the other foot and I went to their house and just started raiding all of the chicken and beef out of their freezer I'm sure that wouldn't be cool.  If any of them were hungry it would be different and I'd willingly share, but that just isn't the case.    :RANT OFF:

  4. I read this morning that Moms Demand Action presented Harris Teeter with a petition to change their policy and prohibit law-abiding citizens from carrying in their stores. Just like their parent company, Kroger, they told the mommies to go jump in the lake.

  5. Went out for a quick hunt before church yesterday, tons of squirrels and then two coyotes moved in about 80 yards as I was climbing down. I always carry my distress call, and 3 quick hits on the call sent them my way. Lost visual on the bigger one, but had a 40 yrd shot on this one. 62grain Speer did the trick...

As Bill Davison (Former British Royal Marine and CT Instructor with lots of time in Northern Ireleand) "I have never seen someone not die because they got shot with a 9 mil; they all died immediately and I'm really pleased with the cartridge," ......   Article can be found here....http://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/GunWeek.html

  8. A few other things, he was with his 2 kids and his wife was thinking about carrying and hadn't shot in ages and that's why he did the whole 45 bit. But, he was right about pissing the guy off. I'm mean I'd be pissed if I was shot with a 9mm. Of course, I would also be rolling on the ground in pain trying not to bleed to death but, still pissed

  14. Here is my first assembly of a stripped lower. Used a LPK I got for Christmas last year. Will probably replace the safety with something different and put a Geisselle trigger in it next year. Hopefully I will get the complete upper and buffer tube/stock kit I asked Santa (aka my wife and kids) for this year...Was really cool learning how all the springs and detents and roll pins come together to make everything work...I am officially HOOKED...

  16. I pretty basically only have two gun stores I deal with and that is Sumner Gun and Supply or Ashbrauners Pawn shop. I have won a few bids on guns from Gun Brokers and all of them were prior to my joining TGO so I used Ashbrauners as my FFL. Now if I need an FFL in my future I will use Sumner. I asked Ashbrauners to get on the list for Gun Brokers but this refused. I have no clue why but that is their business.   Now with that said I sold a gun on Gun Brokers some years back and  the gun was only up about 3 hours before it was sold on a Buy Now purchase which was quite surprise because the buy now was relatively higher than what i really wanted for the gun. Only thing I can figure is the gun really wanted that particular firearm bad. That was my first experience at shipping a gun also and I learned a lot with that experience also.   I received the Cashiers Check in 3 days and i packed the gun up to ship. Spent over an hour making sure it was all packed tight so it would not rattle or damage anything. I shipped it UPS( Brown truck) Had a store a mile from the house so went up there. They informed me they could not ship firearms and I need to take it to Brick Church Pike hub to ship it. Off to Brick Church pike I go. Stand in line about 40 minutes only to be told when it came my turn that they could not ship firearms and I needed to take it to the Main hub on Elmhill Pike. an hour later I arrive at the hub on Elm Hill Pike. The guy was relatively nice that waited on me and he began to unwrap the package. I told him I spent a lot of time packing that so it would not be damaged in shipping. He said he needed to inspect it to make sure there was no ammo in the package with the weapon.   I watch him as he repacked the firearm and all accessories which he dd a better job than I did and I handed him the FFL it was going to. He put all the labels on it and gave me all the paperwork after putting it in the shipping area. Got a delivery confirmation 3 days later that the FFL dealer had signed for it. Got an email from the guy the next day telling me how thrilled with the gun. He said the pictures did not do the gun justice because it was a lot nice than he expected. He was happy, I was thrilled but I did learn a lot on my first sale on Gun Brokers and I have decided there will be no more Auction sales for me. If I cannot sell local I won't sell...............jmho

  24. And Charlie Beckwith (the guy who founded Delta - the unit not the airline-) was hit with a 12.7mm round (the Russian .50 cal) in vietnam and survived....so what?   Exactly WHERE did  the NY bullet sponge get hit? And was the head wound a penetrating wound or a superficial glancing shot?   Sorry, but I'm gonna side with Davison who worked counter terror in Northern Ireland vs the IRA (and the SAS and SBS shot a lot of Irishmen) vs an anecdotal story of some guy somewhere sometime who was shot somewhere with 9mm who did not die. Especially when that is EXACTLY what the SEAL contingent that "testified" at the FBI wound ballistics workshop in 87 said . They gave a "classified " briefing which pretty much said 9mm killed people dead when you hit them somewhere important.   Peripheral hits don't do any good with any caliber. And I'm going to guess that the NY guy took a lot of hits in NON VITAL places.  But holes in hearts , spines and brains are just that....HOLES in hearts spines and brains no matter what puts them there. And holes in hearts , spines and brains tends to make people lay down and die right now.  Placement is far and away more important than bullet diameter given an adequate amount of penetration to hit vital structures. Next most important is punching multiple holes and disassembling those internal organs. Physics is physics and scientifically measurable data is just that...scientifically measurable.... and the difference in energy is MINUSCULE between .45 and 9 and the difference in size of hole is minuscule.    As to anecdotal stories.....In the book "A Wayward Angel the Full Story of the Hells Angels" one of them was shot multiple times with .45, survived and actually got a tattoo that said ".45s aint sh!t ,17 holes , 4 creases"..... so ANYTHING can fail spectacularly if the shooter can't place the holes into important structures......

  29.   Dunno what variety it is, but my dad was helping an elderly man care for his lawn this summer. He hooked us up with so many pears we got sick of em!   A great site for info on plantings, care, maintenance, etc of all manners of gardening is easily found at the UT Ag extension site. Be sure to check with the Ag Extension office in your county. I think they even have courses if you're interested.

  30. You are absolutely correct. Cops are people too. There are good and bad, but just like in the media, "if it bleeds at leads." However, if a cop is a dick, he often ruins lives, not just days. We are actually right to shine light on the abuses of not only cops, but every public official who has the power to similarly ruin lives and does so. In general, I believe most cops are just like me; they just want to do their job and go home to their families who love and depend on them. As for the others, I have no more pity when they get busted than I do any other run of the mill thug. With all that being said, thanks for your service. You do a job I would not do; one that is completely necessary to the fabric of our society. I know it's thankless 99% of the time, unless someone catches it on film or makes a big deal out of it like in this story.

  31. Do some homework, some trees are self pollinating, many require a male and a female tree.   Your trees will take time to bear fruit. Don't expect much (if any) in the first year or two depending on the variety. Some longer. Strong growth will stunt bud production and the even the ability to bear fruit. The tree is using nutrients to grow bigger, instead of to grow fruit. Weak growth is an indicator of poor nutrients.   Many apple varieties only produce every other year. Bud production is smack dab in the middle of fruit production. If the tree is growing fruit - it can't properly grow buds. So, expect no better than every other year.   You'll also need your trees (if not self pollinating!) to bloom in the same time frame. Plus, you need pollinators. Bees are great!   Cold snaps can stop fruit production, even if you get flowers. Just because the flowers look fine when they bloom, doesn't mean the temps didn't damage them.   Enjoy your trees for the shade, and any fruit that they bear is a bonus!   There's a lot more to it, enjoy learning and good luck!

  36. Imho joining and shooting idpa or ipsc at your local clubs may teach you a lot more than some of these tacticool courses.   Bring whacha got, have fun and learn a lot. There will be lots of other folks with wheels guns.   If you've gotten your HCP then you;ve probably had the safety courses which is great. Now you need to learn practical shooting using your chosen firearm and it sounds like this guy can't really give it to you.

  43.   Not always. There was one real positive post this morning. And, I'm so tickled with Nashville Metro right now that I could turn cartwheels. They arrested five thievin' little bastards and got my #### back from them. Chased them down with a helicopter! I know that wasn't good samaritan stuff, but it sure was good cop stuff. In that case, I was hoping for at least one dick in the bunch.  :taser:

  46.  I think many of the bad opions of some 1911s are actually the fault of the magazines. I befuddles me how some makers build really good pistols and then cheap out on the mags that go with them. I like Springfield 1911s, but the mags they supply are just so-so. Some work just fine, others not so much. And while my Remington R1 is a great pistol, the magazines that came with it are pure junk.  So if your new 1911 doesn't want to work quite right, try some better mags before condeming it.  For .45acps I highly recommend the Wilson Combat magazines. Yes, they are expensive, but they are the best. These are the only magazines I use for competition or carry. If your 1911 is in 9mm or 38 Super, Metalform is the way to go. Metalform also makes Colt's factory mags.  The magazine is the heart of a semi-auto pistol. Buy the best.

  47.   Yeah, that adds great hope for striking down a lot of laws in a lot of places. My question is, what about equal protection under the law for people from out of state? CA, like many liberal states, doesn't recognize out of state permits or even offer an out of state permit. If the other states are forced to acknowledge other state's driving permits, why not gun permits? It should be an easy court victory, but the fact that we just won this ruling after 238 years of being a country doesn't bring me much hope.
    1 point
  48.   The video is misleading, but not wrong.  It does instruct one to hand over the permit with your license, but it does not say you are required to do so.  I can see why you have your question though.  Some states require you to inform the officer at first contact if you possess a weapon, but not TN.  In most cases it is probably a good idea to do so, but it is your option in TN.
