  1.   Horse pucky. We have grizzlies. Pure white ones. They hang out with the black cougars. I've seen them. Same conspiracy denies them.   - OS

  5. So Friday's food sucks, their service is typically awful and they are very anti-gun. How do you boycott a place you already refuse to visit? I just don't get it. I was a restaurant manager for 3 different chains for a bit over 15 years. I did everything I could to get officers to eat there as often as possible. If their departments allowed it the food was always free. If they only allowed a discount then they always got as much as was allowed. And, if the department had a no discount policy (a few of the larger ones did) I would donate free food and/or gift cards to their fundraisers etc... Restaurants have an unfortunate tendency to get robbed. I wanted as many armed friendly faces around as possible. In the smaller towns in East Tn and East Tx that I spent a fair amount of time in it was very common for the officers to learn what time we closed out and come hang out in their cars while we made night deposits. The last company I worked for was primarily located in malls. During the Christmas season our staff would have to park a fair distance away. Several departments would offer to escort the employees to their cars as the wait staff in particular would often leave carrying a decent amount of cash. Did they do that because of a free burger? Of course not. They did it because they were professionals. Getting a discounted meal or a free cup of coffee on a cold wet night just made it easier for them to do so... Mark

  7.   I tell you, it is getting to the point that every time I hear the oxymoronic (as well as simply moronic) phrase, "common sense gun laws" I want to vomit.  See, common sense - real common sense - tells me that criminals do not follow laws.  Common sense tells me that a guy that is going to walk into a school/church/restaurant/strip club or whatever and start killing people - often total strangers at that - and then eat his gun when the cops show up really doesn't give a tinker's damn about whether or not the gun he uses to do it was obtained legally.  Likewise a person who robs a bank, stages an armed invasion of another person's home and so on.  Common sense tells me that, ultimately, the only people whose behavior is changed by laws are the law abiding.  So, therefore, claiming that more/stricter limitations on the right to own firearms will somehow cause criminals to suddenly obey the law defies common sense.

  8. ever since I found Freedom Munitions, I have completely given up buying ammo at a retail store. I have bought 9mm, and .380 from them.    it functions great in my weapons, burns cleaner than several brands, availability almost always is a NON-issue and it is usually cheaper.   don't really see a downside here. . .

  11. This is where I'm at. I don't think the resturant should ask them to leave, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Plenty of beat cops only do the bare minimum to qualify with a handgun, and I'm guessing for Parole and corrections officers it's not stressed anywhere near as much. So why does a person carrying a badge have a right to carry a firearm there, but I can't. I've done my time on the two way range and have plenty of time and training behind both a pistol and a long gun. I guess it's a pointless argument anyways, I'm not spending money anywhere that refuses my right to carry a firearm. Sent from behind the anvil

  13. I know someone who is a probation officer, and I think they typically wear those dressy tactical cargo pants with a polo that has their office label and logo on it. And they carry a sidearm. Pretty hard to not understand that they are some kind of law enforcement just at a quick glance.   The part of the story that gets me is the social media outrage. In his job, he is not there to protect anyone. The pistol is for his protection due to the criminals he interacts with each day. He has no more firearm / safety training each year than I do. Why is everyone outraged that someone like him can't carry into the restaurant, but nobody outside of TGO could give a rat's ass about any one of us?

  15. We all knew a gun control plan from Hillary was coming, she just waited for a tragedy to roll it out after for timing effect.  How else was it ready to go out of the box like that?   She's losing too much momentum to Bernie, and needs this issue to try and get herself back into the graces of the far left.       You guys think Hillary has a chance to go to jail...that's cute.  The Obama administration may let her fall on her sword by quietly dropping out of the race (paging Joe Biden) and fading from public view, but no way do they let her drag the party down with an arrest and a trial that will own the headlines worse than Casey Anthony.

  17. So I'm going to look at a couple of jeeps tomorrow. I've owned one jeep, a 76 Cherokee on 35's when I was in high school but that's the limit of my Jeep knowledge and they have changed a lot since the days of 401 AMC motors and quadratrac transfer cases. I'm fairly mechanical and have worked on lots of cars, I just need to know if there are specific things to look for. The two I am going to look at are a 2000 Sahara, 5 speed, 4.0 liter, small lift, bigger tires, 132k miles. The other is a 2003 X wrangler,,5 speed, 4.0 liter, small lift, 33" tires, 122k miles. Anything specific to Jeeps I need to be on the lookout for mechanically? I'm looking to replace my completely worn out 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 so they will be used as daily drivers anytime I'm not on the motorcycle, and due to the nature of my job and the attendance policy, being able to travel to work in bad weather is a must. We were required to come in even in the worst of the ice storms in February, the plant never closed. So something capable and dependable are at the top of the list. Sent from behind the anvil

  19.   And also you have to stockpile them during the summer, price doubles on pellets during the cold season.  We found that out the hard way after installing one for my grandma.   <edit>  wouldn't say they actually double, but they will go up at least $2/bag when they know people are desperate.

  20. Not currently but I heated a 1000 sq ft house for two winters with an insert and wood.  It was a lot of work and I enjoyed it.  My wife didn't want anything to do with it and it doesn't sound like yours does either.  If you go this route then you should probably duct it into the dog house.

  27. I think you would Be fine with the LNL, 550 or 650, they will all do what you are after, I like the SDB also but you already have dies that fit the other presses and it limits you to pistol only. I've seen a lot of people in the last few years jump full bore into a progressive with case/bullet feeders and all of the other bells and whistles, then the next thing you know they are telling me how they stuck a bullet in the barrel from a squib load or that it's just sitting collecting dust because they couldn't get it running right. I've loaded on all of these presses except for the LNL and liked all of them, I don't know how long you have been reloading or what your mechanical aptitude is, just be aware that you can over buy and have regrets also. 31.   I looked at it as they were about to be on the move again. Unlike Rick's group, they don't yet have a plethora of guns to leave one behind with the bitten/scratched victim for offing themselves as they get sick. It was either kill her now and get to the boat, or leave her to turn...and still get to the boat. Either way, it's time to go.   You're hitting on the thing that has bothered me since the beginning of this show. They seem to be switching from "normal" people to savage killers doing what it takes to survive too easily. Not too quickly, just too easily. None of these terrible choices seem to be tearing them up inside like they should be. Sure there was a jackass Lieutenant, but the rest of the Army personnel treated them pretty well. Travis even witnessed the enlisted men pushing back against the Lt. in "Cobalt". But then they turn around and dump the hoard of zombies on the base knowing it's going to kill a lot of the men who have been keeping them safe, just to sneak into that same base. That's cold, brutal, possibly necessary, and a viable plan that worked out for them*, but no remorse? Seriously?       *They went in to get 3 people, but only get to keep 1 of the 3 (and it's Nick, so that's a loss), but the big win is one they didn't expect and that's Strand.

  33. I don't understand the assumption that any catastrophic event in the US must have some biblical connotation to it.  Be it from economic collapse or natural disaster, things like this happen all throughout history.  The only difference is now you're potentially living through it, so man's self centered view of the cosmos extends to time itself, I guess.    I wish you the best of luck out in the wilderness.  You won't be alone.  The forests of our continent won't be as you remember them in peacetime.  Hell, you can't stroll through the forest during deer season without running into several people.  I don't see why it's so difficult to understand that when there is a shortage of food, every good 'ol boy and city slicker with a hungry belly and a boomstick will be crashing through the woods thinking he's smarter than all the rest of us.  Good luck with that.  Hopefully one of the few thousand people competing with you in the forest don't raid your campsite and kill you in your sleep.   Also, hunting on a full stomach (if you've eaten in the past 24 hours, you have a full stomach), versus hunting after not eating for several days is very different.  Wanna test this theory?  Great!  It's always good to be prepared.  Don't eat for 3 days, and no cheating.  Water is the only thing you're allowed.  Now, go to the forest for a couple of days and only eat what you can dig up or kill.  You'll find that it isn't easy.  You will expend more calories foraging than you will replace with what you find.  You'll notice that you can't walk very far without getting tired and having to rest.  That's where you'll learn that starvation in the wilderness is an exponential event.  But hey, what do I know?   I may die in my home.  But I will die with a roof over my head, my wife and kids at my side, a full belly, and a pile of expended brass and dead bodies at my feet.

  36. To ante the pot, I've asked Kris (173rdABN) from DTV Tactical Innovations in Hendersonville to bring down some of his weaponry and help out with the event.  There's a potential scheduling snafu he has to work out but as of now it's a definite maybe.    Be difficult to find someone to match Kris' decade plus of SAW experience.  He's a combat vet who cut his teeth while serving as a 249 gunner in the deadly Korengal Valley, Afghanistan then later as an Overseas Security Contractor.  A great guy to meet, always willing to help and an asset to the TGO community.

  37. My house is way off the road and I also collect military vehicles and you can routinely hear me shooting guns. I have come to be known as the crazy gun guy with all the military trucks.   People that know me know that's not who I really am but it's not a bad reputation to have. All my neighbors have had break-ins but they always seem to pass my place up.

  40.   Sorry, Ramsey and his cohort are the problem in the legislative sense.   Colleges, especially public ones like TBR schools are completely dependent on state money for their day to day operations from direct funding, and the way the state helps to subsidize tuition for students from scholarships.  If the legislature voted to force these schools that take direct state funding to allow carry with a valid HCP, they would bitch and moan for a news cycle, then go on cashing the checks.  Nothing matters more to the higher education lobby than keeping the spigot flowing with cash to the schools.

  45. Buy a set of replica grips at a gun show for about twenty five bucks and put them on when shooting gun as your original grips are in very nice shape but will crack because of age (very brittle) and have seen original grips go for over a hundred. How did I find this out? I shot and broke mine.
