During a recent test, the TSA failed to find 95% of items the testers say they should have caught. I would much rather have freedom than a little - in truth, almost non-existent - amount of perceived security.4 points

A federal goverment that has the power to force every state to recognize carry permits from every, other state would also have the power to dictate that every state must meet the most stringent requirements enacted in any state in order for the carry permit to be valid. In other words, if the feds can tell New Yorkistan and The People's Republic of Kalifornia that they have to recognize Tennessee's permits then those same feds can also require that Tennessee's permits meet with the requirements for getting a permit in New Yorkistan and The People's Republic of Kalifornia. Want 'shall issue' to be a thing of the past? Want to be required to 'show a real need' (with protecting your life possibly not passing muster to be seen as a 'real need') to be able to carry a gun before you can get a carry permit in Tennessee? Then federally mandated state carry permit reciprocity is for you! Even if such obvious measures didn't come to pass (and I would be surprised if they didn't) then you can be assured that - at the very least - every, single handgun sold in the United States would be required to be 'California legal' simply because those handguns 'might' get carried there. Need an example? Just look at California emissions laws and how they impacted federal emissions requirements for all vehicles regardless of whether or not that vehicle would ever actually be driven in California. In fact, unless I am mistaken, much of the Gun Control Act of 1968 also originated in California (and was championed by a so-called Republican Governor - not just any so-called Republican but in fact the High Lord of all Republicans, Ronald Reagan) As for me, I'll just figure that states where the political climate is such that they refuse to recognize a Tennessee HCP are probably not states I care anything about spending any real time in, anyhow. I'd rather avoid those states altogether or deal with not being able to carry if for some reason I have to go to those states than open a door for Kalifornia's and New Yorkistan's draconian laws to be pushed onto people in other states..4 points

The problem with that is that the TSA is more about security theater than it is about actual security. I haven't been as safe on an airplane as I was on September 10, 2001 when I flew into New York and simply placed my Spyderco Rescue in the tray as i passed through the metal detector and picked it up on the other side. If they wanted real security on airplanes, they'd let the airlines do it themselves, price it accordingly and suffer market consequences for lapses.3 points

I hear what you're saying, but where is the line? Everyone is different, of course. Ben Franklin had a saying about situations like this.3 points

About 9 years ago they ordered my Marlin 1894 in 357. It showed up when they said and the transaction was perfectly normal. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I have been shopping there for 10 years and have been happy with every interaction. They taught me the basics of reloading right there in the store, and never once rushed me or made me feel stupid, even after many opportunities! I wholeheartedly support and recommend them.3 points

Have you thought about an Encore? I shot one, it's a handful ( shoulderful?) but not too bad. Add a 45/70 and a 458 win mag and you're all set for the stampede.2 points

I never really liked to fly before the TSA was started, but all the useless TSA garbage has made me avoid flying unless absolutely necessary. I highly prefer to drive instead of flying.2 points

Flew yesterday to Palm Springs, no pat down, but I have in the past...flying is a total pita...if I can get there in 10 hours by car, I drive.2 points

I might get yelled at here. I'd rather be uncomfortable, or have other people uncomfortable than to have someone sneak a dangerous item on a plane. I'll take security over comfort.2 points

I swear some TSA folks just want to make people uncomfortable because they don't like their jobs and are themselves uncomfortable. Perhaps one should play against their expectations and express some ...uhm... exaggerated enjoyment during the pat downs. "ooh yeah, that's nice, more to the left, that's it... ooh... yeah...". I wonder if that would speeds things up a bit.2 points

Needs a Butler Creek recoil pad on the stock... be honest, going through a whole 50 rd box of Blazer 22 will leave a nasty bruise on your shoulder if you don't have the proper recoil management equipment in place. We've all been there, right? But seriously, wowzers!2 points

Amen! Another NY-Transplant recently said it best in another thread. I could have lived anywhere in this country. I CHOSE to move my family to Tennessee (for many reasons). Ya'll might talk w/ marbles in your mouth sometimes, ;) , but I don't hold that against ya! I never studied the particular's of the NY law, it was passed in a political-rush after the School shooting in CT incident, and clearly wasn't well thought out (cuz they didn't limit the number of mag's you can have/carry, just the capacity of each one). If you had a 10rd you were supposed to get an insert for it, or turn it in and buy new 7-rd compliant one's. I don't know anyone who did that. For the record, the bulk of that state is strongly opposed, it was the downstate politicians (NYC area) that pushed it through. Imagine if most of TN's politics was decided by the people that live in/around Memphis? The wife and I started our pistol permit process before leaving, never finished it - takes over a year in most cases! And they're so asinine about the ammo, too: You cannot even purchase ammunition unless a pistol of that caliber is listed on your permit (e.g. I couldn't buy a box of .45's and meet you at the range, b/c I have a 9mm). MOST LGS's would look the other way for regulars, but still, just stupid laws that really don't have the desired affect (stopping mass-shootings by criminals!). Frankly it was one of the final-straw's w/ me deciding it was time to pack up our shit and GTFOOD!2 points

Bait and switch alert! Nothing yet but the stock. Gun arrives next week, Zenith MKE Z-5RS. HKparts stock came in today so thought I would put a teaser up. Wanted this specific setup since I was a kid, would prefer an auto, but no bueno on that much $. Will have a can on it as well, but want to get the pistol in hand before deciding on a model. Step 1. Stock Step 2. Pistol Step 3. Waste ammo (skipped this step - mp5 pistol is about useless) Step 4. Form 1 - submitted approved Step 4a. Waste ammo - successful That was rapid firing two mags (mixed cheap ammo to see how it functions - this thing chews up aluminum case stuff, there will be no more of it) at 25 yards, standing with the iron sights (no adjustments made from the box). Rear sight is hard to get used to, it sits too low. Another issue was that it's strange holding the front hand guard, much more accurate if you hold it by the front of the mag well/mag. Probably going to go with optics on it even though I said I wouldn't. Step 5. Can & paperwork done Silencerco Hybrid :) , paperwork filed. Step 6. Waste ammo (need to order adapters and then will be able to fire it at the range, it came configured for .308) Step 7. Enjoy1 point

I have yet to meet a professional person working for the TSA. I'm sure they exist, but I've never met one, and I fly regularly. If someone talked to me on the streets the way TSA idiots have talked to me, they would have been shut down ricky tick. Of course, if I responded to TSA morons in the manner they deserved, I'd be jailed as a terrorist and would never be able to fly again. Every TSA agent can go eff themselves.1 point

Not pretty but I have got a couple of Blade-Tech kydex with loops that I really like. They are slim and surprisingly comfortable.1 point

If I were fortunate enough to win that kind of jackpot, my main focus would be on setting up several no-kill animal shelters all over the country. Then I'd gladly pay off politicians to pass much stricter laws pertaining to animal abuse.1 point

I do. You choose to have that job, you choose to perform those duties. You get to be responsible for the actions you engage in. But, I don't fly. TSA or not, I've made two round trip flights and I just don't like planes.1 point

Mac.... I've got an older Remington 700 Safari in 375... It is a beautiful thing to behold... When i was younger, we would shoot it prone with a sissy bag... At 60 yards it would cut a 3 shot cloverleaf if you did your part holdin it (...we used the old "hourglass" targets and aimed at the points...) with iron sights... I never had any factory loads for it... We always used the accuracy load from the Lyman Manual with Sierra either 270 or 300 grain spitzer boat tails... I believe we used IMR 4350 for the powder... Right here is the latest copy on the bullets we used... https://www.sierrabullets.com/store/product.cfm/sn/3000/375-dia-300-gr-SBT To sum things up; they are a great rifle with a helluva punch and remarkably accurate... I heartily recommend 'em... bawanna leroy...1 point

TT Gunleather. I have a Mikes Special edition for my G19 and it is much more comfortable than my Mil Sparks VM2, for me anyways. It rides a bit lower than the VM2. http://www.mcssl.com/store/a9856d0dead4463ea8f07338d4d909/catalog/product/68352856e58a4f40bcf130f25458da041 point

Another +1 for the Buddy systems. I use both the 1 pound bottles (I refill also) as well as a tree on the 20 pounders so I can run the propane lamp on top and the heater off the bottom of the tree. It will heat up the 12x12 bedroom of the hunting cabin in minutes to bearable and run for several nights off the 20 pounder. I keep it and all the lighting and cooking gear in one plastic tool box to just throw in the bed of the truck and off ya go. Get ya one folks.1 point

I know just about nothing related to IT, but I got a few chuckles from reading this thread. I know a guy who took online classes to become something in the IT field, and has managed to fake his way through it for the last few years. I was surprised to find out that he is still employed, considering his wife did quite a bit of the online work for him.1 point

Best of luck to you my friend. I separated from active duty in 2007, and I am very happy that I did. I have worked in small, locally owned companies, local governments, and now a .gov agency. I honestly think that many of the senior NCOs and officers believe that all of the 300 million non-military personal in the United States work at Burger King.1 point

I truly hope this fails again. No more precedents regarding federal gun control of any kind should be set. A positive one is only a heartbeat different from its opposite. The only gun action I'm in favor of would involve repeal, not addition. - OS1 point

No, this is actually true. Russian guns were designed to eat everything from .22LR to small artillery shells without the pesky need to swap barrels. They also never, ever, ever, ever, never ever jam. I once saw YouTube video of a Spetznatz Soyuz door gunner who filled his AK47 barrel and chamber with Quik-Crete, let it set for 3 days, then successfully fired a magazine on full auto from it, underwater, upside down, with no hands. It was on the Internet so you know it's true.1 point
