Hey gang... Seeing as how some of you really "love" change (haha) I thought that it might be a good idea to go ahead and start talking about some upcoming improvements and changes to TGO that will occur this month. There are some things coming down the pipe that I think the majority of you will really enjoy, and there are some things coming that may be a bit of an adjustment to some of you as well. Rather than write a really long preamble about all of this, let me just dive into the specifics. New: Image Gallery I have purchased the license to use the Invision Power Image Gallery system. Because Amazon's S3 storage is so cheap, I am finally able to offer you all the ability to host photos of your gun collections for everyone to enjoy, right here on TGO. In actuality, the Image Gallery also has the ability to host videos, but that is a feature I will have to give some thought to enabling as we move ahead. For the time being we will just allow photos. New: Articles and Reviews I have also purchased the license to use the Invision Power Pages system which allows us to host articles and reviews written by TGO Members and TGO Staff, in a nicely formatted, easily searched library of material. Basically it will allow me and the Staff to chose posts that you are already writing or have written, and promote them to either an Article or a Review depending on the content. One of things that has made TGO so successful over the years is the amount of knowledge amassed within it because of you. This just allows us to organize it a little better for everyone's benefit. Uncertain Future: Real-time Chat As I had mentioned previously, Invision Power is discontinuing their real-time Chat feature that some of you enjoy using here on TGO. I honestly don't understand why they are doing this beyond the explanation that they have offered on their support forum. Namely, that it is not a popular product within their portfolio and maintaining it draws away resources that they want to focus on other things. Bummer. I will be continuing to look for a replacement for the Chat feature. So far, the prospective replacements have not been very good or very exciting, but I have not given up. The current Chat system will expire at the end of April, 2017. New: Improved Classified Ads This is a big one and honestly is the one that I am most excited about. One of the things that has kept me from adopting a more feature rich Classified Ads approach on TGO has been the popularity of the Tapatalk mobile phone application. In a nutshell, Tapatalk doesn't show you the whole "TGO Experience" and only shows you the basic things (threads, posts, private messages) and only in the Tapatalk format. If it doesn't fit inside their carton, it doesn't get displayed on their app. Also a bummer. I have purchased a new Classifieds add-on for our forum software that not only provides you with an experience similar to Gunbroker or any other number of sites that allow easy upload of product photos, but it also creates a new thread inside the forums any time that you post an ad, so that folks using Tapatalk can participate as well. Some of the features this thing has are: Central area for you to view all of your ads, including expired ads, and manage them. People can make offers (bids) on an advertisement if you have set the ad to allow it. Ads are integrated into the IPBoard activity streams and show up as new material. Ads are searchable within IPBoard like any other content. Ads can include Google Maps if an address is provided by the person posting the ad. Ads can be added to a "Wish List" by members. Ads can contain photos, easily uploaded to the ad from within the system. Ads can be marked to allow questions and answers. We will also have a special section of Ads just for our TGO Vendors to showcase items for sale! I will be making the new Classifieds system available to you as quickly as possible. I have already begun setting it up and hope to have it ready for use within the next week or two. Uncertain Future: Mutiple "Themes" for Viewing TGO I had to save the bad news for last, I guess. Maintaining multiple "themes" for viewing TGO is a real pain and takes a lot of time. Whenever a new version of the forum software is released, I can end up spending hours to make the various themes work with the new version, and unfortunately my free time for this sort of thing is going to be extremely limited in 2017 as I focus on going back to college for another advanced degree. My free time for a lot of stuff is going to be limited because of that. I know that some of you really prefer the Dark theme and find it to be easier on your eyes, but I am honestly not sure for how much longer I can keep that available to you. If I find an easier way to provide a darker version of our main visual theme, I will gladly jump on it, but at the moment I just cannot make any promises. Hopefully those of you who prefer the darker theme will be able to just bump down the brightness on your computer or mobile devices, and stick with us. Well, that's the long and short of it all. Feel free to ask questions or discuss. I'll be glad to offer whatever additional information that I can.9 points

Finished up my most recent build thinking it would shoot 5.56, turns out it throws flames. Joking aside I was shooting some Monarch ammo that had considerably more flash than American made ammo. This picture was also the worst out of multiple magazines. Thought it was a funny picture regardless.6 points

It'll be interesting to see if insurance rates in TN start going up now since people don't have a choice now. They went up in KY when a similar law was enacted many moons ago. Slowly started creeping up over a few years, and now in KY insurance is at least 50% higher than here in TN. When I moved from KY to TN in 2010, the same coverage by the same company on 3 vehicles went from $250/month to $150ish. Hope it doesn't happen here too.2 points

Depends on the seller. If I am selling to someone I do not know I ask two questions, "Are you a citizen of Tennessee?" and "Are you prohibited from owning a firearm?". If they answer correctly I take their cash and hand them a gun. If a seller wants me to fill out a form with all kinds of personal information I walk.2 points

Unless I’ve missed it in the news, there doesn’t seem to have been any reminder to the public about the last phase of the new vehicle insurance law going into effect tomorrow. Starting tomorrow, you have to have proof of insurance to renew your tags. The new fines and penalties went into effect last year but the County Clerk/Insurance Company’s data base is supposed to go on line tomorrow. I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening. In case anyone missed it, driving without insurance is no longer just a traffic ticket, it’s a class C misdemeanor. If you’re involved in an accident with injuries, it’s a class A misdemeanor.1 point

Headed to a new home. It's made from 1/4" thick 1095 professionally heat treated to RC 59 and received the cryogenic treatment as well. OAL is 12" Blade is 5 5/8" Scales are bog oak from the Ukraine. This is from the seller...( This is Russian Bog Oak lifted from the bottom of a river near the city of Chernigov. This precious material is called Russian "Black wood". The Bog Oak have been soaked in many years of history. Over centuries and a mellinium, sinking Oak trunks lay upon the bottom of a surface of water. They lie there for many years without any exposure to oxygen, completely submerged. In result of the chemical processes, the sap from the wood and minerals from the water dye the wood a black color. The birthplace of Bog Oak transpires from a few extremely important components: Oak trees growing by the riverside, a certain speed of the river current, and a few definite minerals in the water. Bog Oak is an extremely rare and unique material which color speaks for itself. The light pinkish yelow color represents aging from three to four hundred years, while the black is equivalent to more than a thousand years. Like elite wines, this incomparable wood undergoes many years of preservation, enabling the wood to gain a few unique qualities. Bog Oak is incredibly stoic, and through it's longevity it obtains an unrepeated texture. For a long period of time Russian " Black wood" has been used in carpentry, jewelry, knifemaking, etc. In Rus' there are many beleifs about the healing properties that Bog Oak contains. The wood is commonly used to heal people, and was especially popular as an item that usually surronded people. This valuable wood emanates a type of living energy that people absorbed involuntarily, thus speeding up the process of healing. The age of these Bog Oak blocks has been determined by a radiocarbon analysis and it's about 5460 years. ) It has copper liners and accents along with OD Green G10. It has mechanical as well as epoxy holding the scales. It also has a lanyard hole. The sheath has carbon fiber boltaron pattern on front and black kydex on the rear.1 point

If you guys do decide to revolt, please hook me up with a cool torch and pitchfork and I'll help you storm the gates. School is going to be mind-bending, but it's something I have been wanting to do for a while now and my company is paying for it, so I need to make good on their investment. Hopefully it quickly becomes part of my routine and doesn't feel as out of place in my schedule as it does right now.1 point

Your efforts are very much appreciated David. You have the most unique site on the WWW in my opinion which is why I spend about 90% of my web-time here. Well that and the awesome people that hang out here. It's almost like sitting around a campfire swapping stories. I've learned a lot from this site and not just about firearms. I have no problems with the upgrades and changes you make and it doesn't take much time for them to become just as cozy as the last campfire session. Keep up the good work and know that it is much appreciated!!1 point

I really liked the A. American series Wilson. Entertaining Gun Guy Post Apocalyptic fiction. The Bracken Trilogies are usually free to download a couple of times a year on Amazon. I'm actually rereading them and on book two right now. Forstchen did a remarkable job on his little novella "Day of Wrath (Dies Irae)"...he just didn't seem to maintain his mojo in "One Year After" imho.1 point

I'm not holding out great hope that this will get me spending wheel gun dollars over S&W or Ruger anytime soon. FortKnox mentioned rock island revolvers. Ihate to say it, but they look more like a Colt than this Colt does IMO. I'll reserve final judgment until I at least dry fire one a few times, but so far this is disappointing, and it could have been the best thing since sliced cake.1 point

You aren't alone. My personal information is not required by law and is no one's business. I passed on a higher end 1911 I really wanted here recently because buyer had the "Bill of Sale required" BS on his ad.1 point

The correct saying is "I could not care less".... You are implying that you could, in fact, care less about reciprocity.1 point

That's why I asked. never heard of Gibbs. Thanks. Interesting thing is some guys are very loyal to the gun oil they use. Others will lube with motor oil or even kitchen oils. guess I am trying to find one that makes me want to debate. So far none have seemed better or worse to me. Might be different if in Iraq or Alaska.1 point

Neat. I can guarantee you there is no serial number on it, so there is no need to disassemble. Serial numbers were not required before 1968 and many, many old guns simply do not have them.1 point

Is this new? I wonder if it will impact reciprocity with other states. I have seen other states drop reciprocity over the age requirement. I'm glad to hear that military members have the ability to get a permit though.1 point

Having one of George's holsters for my Baby Eagle (Jericho) that he patterned after a Glock 19, I can say his work is awesome. My holster was from several years ago, and it was good then, I am sure his skill have only gotten better. Great thread.1 point

I would love to see Colt produce a quality revolver. I'm very skeptical about their willingness to produce a top quality gun.1 point

Finally, with the end in sight, you chamfer, burnish, and paint the edge. The goal of the chamfer tool is to take the corner off the piece you're working on so that you can create a nice smooth edge when you burnish. Just run the tool along all the edges and take just a little off. Next take a paintbrush and start painting on the Gum Tragacanth on the exposed edges. Once you've coated the edges take your burnishing tool and run it back and forth until everything smooths out and takes on a glossy sheen. You have two options. Leave it as is or paint it with Edge Kote. Either way is completely fine and just depends on what look you like. Personally I'll paint holster and sheath edges but leave wallet and covers as naturally burnished.1 point

So S&W can put 5 shots of 44 mag in an L frame but Ruger can only put 44 specials in a gp100?1 point

I felt the same as you about glocks (ugly, boring, didn't feel right, too trendy, etc.)... until I bought one! You might say I went against the flow by getting a gen2 Now I have several glocks, and it's hard for me to imagine a better carry gun. I own several different brands and models of carry guns, but I still default G19 when I can... G43 when I can't.1 point
