  1. Good Update at last post: Original Post: Well, today was a tough one. I took Ellie to my Vet and found out she has a very severe heart murmur and probably only had a life expectancy of 2 years. The breeder told me before I picked her out that she had a slight murmur, but her vet said he thought it could close as she got older. My vet disagreed and thought it was very severe so I had to make the very tough decision to return her to the breeder. The breeder handled the entire situation with empathy and class. I couldn't have asked them to handle it any better. They are going to get a second opinion, but I just couldn't start down that road with a new pup. I am obviously upset by this, but it would have only been worse had I waited longer. I guess it's time to reflect on this and wait for the next right time. It's a sad night for me.

  5. Dude I'm sorry but that's a pretty depressing outlook. I love TN but traveling is fun. It would be a pretty boring life if I never left "my immediate area". I understand if you don't want to but for many of us, losing reciprocity is a big deal.

  7. I have less than 50% of what they wanted for just a V plow to fit my 2001 F-350 into that whole outfit, pickup, plow, new studded tires and two sets of aluminum wheels. The key is to start shopping in June when nobody is thinking about snow, and find one that has a problem. I winched that one onto my trailer to get it home, a little work and a new starter got me off the tractor for this winter. I think I listened to "Western Skies" about that many times today as well.

  10. 10 years ago I bought a BERSA Thunder .380. It was my first semi-auto. Early on I shot it quite a bit. Lately not so much. It's relegated to SUV truck gun status in a small essentials bag. Decided to take it to the range earlier in the week. Shoot up the 5 mags of ammo, clean it up and reload with fresh. I had forgotten what a joy it is to shoot and how well I shoot it. It went through 40 rounds of JHP without a missed beat. I probably have 800 reliable round through it now. My Brother in Law brought his stainless Walther PPKs and we both did better with the BERSA and the trigger on the BERSA is "better" than the Walther. What a great gun.

  11. I have upgraded us to the latest IPBoard version and with it comes several new features and also the requirement to re-index all of our posts and threads. Re-indexing is underway now but will take several hours to complete. Until it does complete, your ability to accurately search for specific content or get a full listing of new content will likely be impacted somewhat. One of the obvious new features is the "Leaderboard" that you will see in the top menu. Check it out and let me know what you think. It's kind of fun. Another change for now is that we are running a lightly customized appearance theme that I wrote. It is not as good as some of the full-custom stuff that we have used in the past, but it also upgrades far easier whenever new versions of the software come out. I will continue to tweak it in the days ahead. I do not have a "dark" version of it yet. This is on my list of things to try to get done, but it is lower in priority than a few other things. Sorry. Hopefully those of you who prefer a darker appearance to the forum can adjust the brightness on your monitors.

  12. Why? I traveled some early in life, been to Korea and Central America with the military. I no longer have a need to "GO" see something outside my state. We have mountains (when they're not on fire) and the big river and nice areas to shoot here. Heck I don't even like dealing with traffic and security going to Nashville. No, you can go, I no longer have the desire. All my needs can be met right here in Tennessee and I'm happy at home or my cabin.

  13. What steps? I'd be amazed if it weren't still chambered in 303 British. Clean the bore and chamber, get some ammo, and fire away. I've yet to shoot a 303. I think I'd like to.

  14. The tag is simply a tracking tag used on serialized components during production. They are tracked from a semi-finished state due to when serialization takes place and before they are finished and destined for a specific finished SKU. There was a stage where we were leaving them on completed guns during packaging.

In all honesty, I am just getting it to flip it. i have no interest in wheel guns, but thought it would be good trade bait. Here is the pic I have of it.

  18. Sounds like your promo rate expired. They give you no warning when that's coming up, but if you look at it, it should be for services in the future you're pre-paying for. I'd decide if it's worth it, and at least call to re-negotiate the rate.

  19. A guy on another forum received a test and evaluation copy and posted this review: [...BEGIN COPY AND PASTE...] I had a FDE P10C arrive today. Here my initial impressions Ok so a brief rundown, I really, really, like this thing. I have handled a ton of striker pistols over the past several years, and this one has really blown me away. It is virtually the same size as my 19, with the backstrap and slide being only slightly longer. The back strap being longer is a good thing, IMO, it fills my palm perfectly. That solves the gripe I have about the g19 grip and it being a tad to abbreviated for me. I can shoot it just fine, but much prefer the extended grip. The slide being slightly longer isn't a big deal either, as the added length is in the rear of the P10, and sits over the web of the hand. This no doubt attributes to the reported flat shooting characteristics of the P10. Again the difference isn't much between the P10 and 19, and will be un noticeable when carrying. The overall feel of the P10 is something that you will have to try. It is the most naturally feeling handgun I have held, it feels a bit like the VP9, or P30 grip. The texturing on the front and back straps is aggressive, and some will likely find it a bit too much.. This is easily remedied with some fine sandpaper and lightly rubbing it over the texture. I personally like it, and IMO it's nice to have something that is excessive for some, but can be fixed easily, rather than something with out enough grip. The grip itself is quite thin, and it feels it, and that's a good thing. I honestly can't see anyone not liking the way this gun feels. When I present the pistol using a two handed grip with my eyes closed, the sights are on target every time. The internals on the P10 look seriously over engineered. Everything you can see looks like it was built for a tank, not a handgun. The trigger bar, and sear is one complete piece, much like the glock. The trigger bars moves rearward, and it reaches a point where it hits a ledge and is pushed down releasing the striker. Yes it function like a glock as the striker is only partially cocked when the slide cycles. Pulling the trigger completes the firing cycle. The take up on the trigger is light, and just from dry firing has smooth out considerably since I first tried it. They have achieved this light take up by using dual trigger return springs. From what I can tell as Randy Lee of Apex stated, it appears the trigger weight can be lowered or raised by replacing those two springs. Personally I find the trigger pull perfect. It actually doesn't feel as light as the PPQ, but the break is much cleaner. Again this pistol is new and hasn't been shot. I suspect it will improve with shooting, although I like it as is. There is no overtravel at all, and that lends itself to the front sight staying perfectly still when the striker releases. The reset on this thing is ridiculous. It is the shortest reset I have seen on a striker gun. It is very glock like, very audible and tactile. If you like Glock triggers, your going to love this trigger, hands down. The pistol feels very well put together. Nothing rattles, no excessive play anywhere, fitment is very glock like. There are no machine marks anywhere on the slide, inside or out. The finish is very uniformed and dark black. I'm going to try and go out and shoot it a bit tomorrow so I can comment on accuracy, function, and how it tracks with recoil. (I'll give a range report once I shoot it.) At this point I can honestly say if the P10 is reliable, and as accurate as has been reported, this very well may replace my Glock. I have for a long time jotted down ideas about what I would want in a striker pistol. The P10 is very close to my ideal striker pistol. I can honestly say I can't think of a single thing on here I would change. The only complaint I HAD was the magazine release was a bit difficult, but has smoothed out nicely and is very easy to use now. Is the P10 a Glock killer?...it is not likely to kill glock anytime soon, but it could likely cut into glocks market place. I know glock has a huge aftermarket, but there isn't anything the P10 needs other than maybe a set of night sights, and good duty holsters. That being said, if CZ can keep up with demand, and can get these out to more LE departments, they may just give glock a reason to step up their R&D. The P10 stands poised to at least take a bite out of the striker pie, and it may take a big piece. CZ did exactly what I suspected they set out to do....built a better Glock. There is no doubt after handling the P10 that CZ used the Glock as their starting point, and improved on it. Several officers handled the P10 here today and everyone of them said it "feels like a Glock, but better" and "where can I get one of those triggers". Only time will tell how it will do long term, but CZ has a pretty good record overall and I see no reason why the P10 will fall short on anything.

  21. I can guarantee the even the most green private has had more time on a trigger, as well as firearm safety beaten into them, than a typical seasoned LE officer. Most LE only pull the trigger on their guns when they are required to and that is normally once a year to keep their POST certifications. Every member of the Army is required to qualify with their weapons at least every six months. And in between those qualifications most spend even more time on the range increasing their skill set. And as anyone who has been in the military can attest safety is beaten into your head, then beaten again and then to make sure you heard it before they say it again. So if I were to pick who could get a HCP without the mandatory training it would be a member of our military over LE. Something else, this covers those who are 18-20 which means worst case scenario they are two years since their last training but probably a lot less. For LE who left the job that could be a lot longer and as time goes on people tend to forget things. I have friends who are deep into their 60's who were LE in their 20's. There is no way in hell those friends have the same knowledge or skills as someone who has been out of the military for two years or less. And finally, considering most enlistments are more than two years that means the <20 year old was forced out. And if they have an honorable discharge it means they were likely separated for injuries which right now means it was likely the result of being in combat. And again, if I had to pick someone who might have to protect my family or I it would be a recently separated combat veteran over a 50 year old who was in LE 25 years earlier.

  26. I sympathize. I've had one stolen out of my house several years ago, probably by someone my family knew. It was a Colt Commander in pristine condition I got when I was in the USAF. Not a family heirloom, yet, but it would have been. Police report made but no luck in recovery. I keep hoping it will go through a gun store someday and get tagged as stolen...

  29. I go to great lengths to not use the word "hate", but I do "hate" a thief. I had 5-6 guns lifted from me 20+ years ago, mostly Russian SKSs, and to this date, not one lead or recovery, and I had the serial numbers for each. Police check in time to time, not so much in the past few years to see if I had recovered them on my own, must be a report in the computer system. However, those guns were in my business, so a business loss. When its a family, especially one's father, something he had who is no longer here, there is no comparison. Just sad, very sad. Like I said I "HATE" a thief. If you are in to leg working, check all pawn shops in a 60-90 mile radius. Check flea markets, and any gun shows this weekend. Impossible task, but you never know. BTW, if the thief saw your posting here, likely the ones with a s/n will be thrown in the lake.

  33. Meh. I don't think they'll screw anything up... it's the same milspec stuff that everybody and their momma has been making for decades now, and they are literally adding nothing to the mix. I surely doubt that years of thought have gone into designing this rifle, as Plinkster suggests. Maybe years of negotiating the lowest bidder for supplying the parts for the gun, but slapping 4 off-the-shelf parts on an AR that has remained largely unchanged for 50 years can't take all that long to figure out.

  34. I worked for a company where we connected to customer's PCs with a 14.4 modem and a DOS program called Closeup. It would take hours just to get the tiny data backup file transfered so we could troubleshoot their issue. We would often give up and just have them mail us a floppy copy of it. Those were the days. Lol

  35. Headed to a new home. It's made from 1/4" thick 1095 professionally heat treated to RC 59 and received the cryogenic treatment as well. OAL is 12" Blade is 5 5/8" Scales are bog oak from the Ukraine. This is from the seller...( This is Russian Bog Oak lifted from the bottom of a river near the city of Chernigov. This precious material is called Russian "Black wood". The Bog Oak have been soaked in many years of history. Over centuries and a mellinium, sinking Oak trunks lay upon the bottom of a surface of water. They lie there for many years without any exposure to oxygen, completely submerged. In result of the chemical processes, the sap from the wood and minerals from the water dye the wood a black color. The birthplace of Bog Oak transpires from a few extremely important components: Oak trees growing by the riverside, a certain speed of the river current, and a few definite minerals in the water. Bog Oak is an extremely rare and unique material which color speaks for itself. The light pinkish yelow color represents aging from three to four hundred years, while the black is equivalent to more than a thousand years. Like elite wines, this incomparable wood undergoes many years of preservation, enabling the wood to gain a few unique qualities. Bog Oak is incredibly stoic, and through it's longevity it obtains an unrepeated texture. For a long period of time Russian " Black wood" has been used in carpentry, jewelry, knifemaking, etc. In Rus' there are many beleifs about the healing properties that Bog Oak contains. The wood is commonly used to heal people, and was especially popular as an item that usually surronded people. This valuable wood emanates a type of living energy that people absorbed involuntarily, thus speeding up the process of healing. The age of these Bog Oak blocks has been determined by a radiocarbon analysis and it's about 5460 years. ) It has copper liners and accents along with OD Green G10. It has mechanical as well as epoxy holding the scales. It also has a lanyard hole. The sheath has carbon fiber boltaron pattern on front and black kydex on the rear.

It was the first time that my siblings and I have spent Christmas in Mexico and it has been well over 40 years for my parents. In the spirit of the forum, I have included photographs of my grandfather's Pre 70 Series Colt 38 Super Automatic that was produced in 1966. He gave it to my father prior to his passing in 2006 and my father gave it to me on Christmas Day.

It took a long time to get my rifle back each time I've had a new barrel put on, but that is just another reason to get my next rifle done with a barrel nut. I have no experience with South Precision Rifles, but I will be making a drive out there when they get long action Mausingfields in stock. Their info is below. Greg Young2883 Landscape Rd.Cookeville, TN 38506 From their reputation I would not hesitate to do business with Patriot Valley Arms, but PA is a long way away.

Between action and barrel, he will be an absolutely unfair advantage.

I have a Saiga .308, wonderfully converted by our own Smith. It's the only serious caliber rifle I own. Would I be better served to keep it, or sell it and get an AR in 5.56? I am not a hunter, if that helps in the decision. I think I ultimately want the best option for home/property defense. Thoughts?
