  3. I purchased a voucher good for a 6-month Benefactor membership. I don't know your email address, so I chose the Print option. I am assuming you should have received an email or something, informing you how to redeem it. If you have any issues, let me know.

  4. Alexander and Corker have the business money in Tennessee as long as they want it, and that's going to be a big hurdle for any challenger to overcome.  Their constituency at the end of the day is the money that elected them.   I won't pull the lever for either of them again.  Period.

  5. Welcome to TGO, Mike. If you hang around long enough, you'll likely come to realize the benefit of a Benefactor membership. Unlike other local classified websites, TGO offers a feedback system, much like eBay. This is very helpful in keeping members honest, allowing you to buy, sell and trade with some peace of mind.  Generally speaking, TGO is a pretty close community. For many of us, TGO is a home away from home. Unlike some of the "national" forums, many of us actually know each other, hang out together, help each other, and act much like any other sometimes dysfunctional family.    We've had some of the TGO Authorized Vendors offer perks to Benefactors, often making the membership well worth while. On top of that, and probably most importantly, the minimal (especially if you bite the bullet for the one-time Lifetime Benefactor Membership) fee allows the site owner to keep TGO up and running as well as he does. While some members may not want to admit it, I'm pretty sure the suicide rate in Tennessee would skyrocket if TGO were to ever be shut down for good. As a welcome to TGO, a Thank You for your service, and an early Christmas present, I will pay for your very first Benefactor membership. I'm confident you'll renew.

  7. Why do they buy this stuff? The same reason you and I would buy this stuff....If they have the budget and can get a good deal on it, WHY NOT? ;) It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

  9. I am happy to announce that, as long as the deal doesn't implode, budsgunshop.com is coming to Sevierville. It will feature several indoor shooting ranges equipped to handle all pistol calibers and most if not all rifle calibers and I believe I understood him to say a tactical rifle/pistol range. It will also feature a large retail area and classrooms to teach anything from HCP classes to defensive tactics . The developers are also working to get a food vendor, such as firehouse subs or similar to set up shop there too. It was presented to me as "manland" a place to come to hang out even if you are not buying or using the range. The conceptional drawings looked awesome! It will be in an existing building close to Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

  13.   Apparently it is a super secret compartment with an electic opening device that requires a certain sequence of events to happen for it to open.   Regardless, that law is beyond ridiculous.  I don't care if it is a drug smuggling compartment.  There weren't any drugs, so no reasonable law was broken.

  15. The bigger question is, what would happen if someone just refused to stop?  Would the officers start shooting?  Chase you down and pull you over even thought they aren't even sworn officers?   What would be the correct thing to do?   As soon as you open your window your "breath" is being "searched" and you don't even know it. And so what if you have alcohol on your breath...having had a drink at some point in the day or evening is not equal being legally impaired? I don't mind being stopped by an actual LEO if he as legal reason to do so (probable cause) but anything less than that is goes fare beyond the pale no matter how "voluntary" they claim it is...this stinks so much I can smell it in Tennessee all the way from Forth Worth TX.

If you're a parent, I dare you to watch this and not get at least a little teary...   I did.   While they didn't seem that way at the time, it makes the difficulties we encountered with our little ones seem trivial.    http://vimeo.com/78393869       In a season of Thanksgiving, sometimes we have a lot more to be thankful for than we realize.

  18. It's kind of fascinating to watch how both sides have magically flip flopped on this issue.  Back in 2005 it was Republicans screaming about the need to do away with the 60 vote supermajority to end a filibuster and go to a simple majority vote.  Back then it was the Democrats saying how horrible that would be and it would rape the constitution.  Here's articles from that time from both the left and the right:   http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/politics/jan-june05/judges_4-18.html   http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/005/551vzoao.asp

  21.    I think it’s funny. I don’t think there anything funny about his victims and certainly nothing funny about them being threatened with a gun. But I had to laugh out loud when I saw that this criminal had been arrested again. I guess stupidity makes me laugh. This guy’s life has been threatened yet he continues to try to get to the one place he will be an easy target; jail. The prosecutors made mistakes and the jury got it wrong, it happens in our legal system; I’m okay with that. But in spite of the failures of our legal system this guy seems to be committed to seeing that justice prevails.   I would guess for the same reason you keep posting in this thread; it’s something to discuss?

  24. The militaration of domestic law enforcement agencies has been happening for decades, it's just picking up pace inorder to keep President Obama's campaign promise to (paraphrasing) "create a domestic police force which is just as powerful, just as big & just as well funded as our armed forces". The ultimate purpose/reason of this is of course just speculation & guess work, but history is ripe with examples of what can & does happen when this sort of domestic law enforcement build-up does occur, none of which (at least to my knowledge) had been for benign purposes/reasons.

  28. I was a seed in my daddy's pants I suppose. My dad remembers it like it was yesterday. He was in the 1st grade and still remembers his teacher breaking down into tears in front of the class.   I was in Dallas 3 weeks ago for business and my Dad happens to live there now. We visited the JFK museum in the former Book Depository. It was extremely emotional for me, I'm not sure why. Even now I'm tearing up just thinking of the experience. I hope to go back someday and visit the museum again. It was definitely the bust museum I've ever been to.    What surprises me the most is how much the democratic party has changed. JFK was pro life, he was an NRA life member(I had no idea), and he was somewhat fiscally conservative. What's happened to them?

  31. The examiner may have been spouting off but I find no reason to say that to someone who is a month out from getting his forms.   Now some of the "pre" examiners are full of crap. I mean to the brim with some of it spilling out they are so full of it. Been told some pretty stupid things.   BTW, our examiner for Tennessee is not going to be our examiner for much longer. I have no clue who the replacement is but I hope ours isn't retiring. If so it will lead to more slow downs.   I find it funny that the only agency that actually has the ability to make money is doing everything it can to keep it from happening. I mean if they had the ability to speed the process up they would generate a lot more revenue. Heck if they could do a frequent flyer program for those who are already vetted I would submit $1,000 in forms.

  34. Robert,   You're right, individual rights include the right to tell everybody else to take a hike...  that is called liberty.   As to why you need to go to court?  Because you're asking the government to infringe on another person's right to property...  you should be forced to show a judge there was actual harm done to you, and convince 6-12 of your neighbors as well before taking away your neighbors rights - due process of law.  And yes it's a high standard because it needs to be, peoples rights, all of them including property rights, should require such high bars to prevent infringement for petty issues.   Also, nothing is stopping you under this legal theory from building neighborhoods with deed restrictions.  If you want to live in a community where people can't be pig farmers...  go buy up some land, place deed restrictions to that effect and sell the land to like minded homeowners.   Since deed restrictions are entirely voluntary and as such don't violate peoples rights...  Then zoning laws and government enforcement (ie threat of violence) of those laws is an infringement of natural rights.    Finally, show me the harm in this case:  http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/11/19/3764503/couple-sues-miami-shores-for-ordering.html   How is anybody going to suffer any real harm by allowing a garden to be grown in their front yard instead of the backyard?  This is a perfect example of petty government infringements.  Or how about the zoning ordinance that didn't allow people to park pickup trucks in their driveway at night?  You could park a ratty old car, but not a $50,000 brand new truck...  how exactly is that harming anybody?   The truth is you like the government solution because it's easier...  let the government use force to make your neighbors live like you want them to...  it's all about trying to control other peoples lives and coming up with theoretical boogey-men to blame for why the government needs all of that power.   As for your mountain reference, if you don't want somebody building a pig farm next to you, why don't you go live on top of a mountain 100 miles from nowhere?  Why is it I have to move to have freedom from your desire to control my life and property, instead of you having to move from my desire to live freely?  What makes your position the superior one?  Nothing, it's a thinly veiled desire to control others through the violence of government.

The 1st Saturday of the month at ORSA (Oak Ridge Sportsmans Association) they have an IDPA match and thats actually a very good match for a new shooter to shoot. They are very relaxed and the stages arent overly difficult. I will be there and you are more than welcome too join our squad. I'll do my best to answer any questions you have, that is if I know the answer lol. But seriously bring your gun and 150rds because you will regret it if you dont

  44. Intergallactic Ecosystem Assault may need to be its own thread!   :)   WARNING:  t hr e a   d   d r   i    f       t......          I can't stand pseudo-science one bit, but I don't need anyone's twisted data (and they do twist it) to know that there are more of us humans on the planet using (consuming) an inconcievably larger quantity of resources than generations before us  - this increase in both population and per-capita resource consumption has been and is happening at an exponential rate.   Think of it like building a theater: Home Theater: - low traffic, light wear on the surfaces/seating, lavatory to serve one at a time. Commercial Theater: - extremely high traffic, extreme wear on surfaces/seating, lavatory to service 20+ (men & women) at a time.        If I know the demans of a facility, I install appropriate components to handle the high demand on those components.  With our ecosystem, we can't just retrofit the planet to fit our increased use.  For this reason, as we experience increases in our demands from our ecosystem, we might be wise to devise ways to decrease our impact relative to our increased use.  We won't get it perfect, but giving it an honest effort and our best shot sure seems to be the "right thing" to do for our kiddos.  I don't buy the over-hyped wacko-crap that many use to justify their next grant for climate research.... but....  the ball is ours to pick up... if no one is looking at the larger picture of our ecosystem rationally, then the emotional/scare tactics will eventually win - and we will end up with policies and expenditures toward large-scale endeavors based on emotional wants rather than factual needs - leaving us without the resources and political will to actually make a difference if the situation ever becomes dire.   At its root, it's not biology or chemistry, it is very simple math.
