  1. Absolutely. I’ve been through more stuff than I want to admit. Sometimes I think my guardian angel takes a breath at the end of the day saying “ made it through another day”.

  2. If a dime is that big a deal to you, just order it on the internet. Since the money is earmarked for TWRA projects, I do not mind it. They have fish hatcheries scattered about for restocking Tennessee waters, and do myriad other things with the money. We wouldn't have wild turkeys here if it were not for this. It is money well spent for the sportsman. Heck, the TWRA often solicits our opinions on things such as regulations, bag limits, etc. I wish all of government was run like the TWRA.

  3. The only thing I can swear by is a one-piece coated cleaning rod and Hoppe’s #9 with cheapest bronze brushes from WM. Q-Tips are an indispensable must, along with an old toothbrush. Pipe cleaners are very handy as well. One thing I can assure of is every person is probably going to give a different opinion.

  4. I love how easy it is to clean up my SR762. Margic is right on the money, it does carry a more noticeable thump than a DI 308. The only Piston 308 I've run into that didnt act that way was a Galil.

  9. My wife says junk.... I gave up really collecting anything years ago. I have some comics, ball cards, Backwoodsman magazines for a lot of years since they started in '85 I think. And a few other things. I used to collect cool computer stuff, but that got chunked in a clean out. I really don't classify myself a gun collector. @10-Ring If I had the space I would have a lot more parts and stuff. I worked for a construction company for a decade and passed on lots of free materials because I had no where to put them that was not disputed territory with the wife. She would rather throw everything away.

  11. I'm a Star Trek geek, but on the item side, the one thing I collect is a calendar they out put every year with artwork for starships in the various shows, and some not in the shows. I keep one copy in the plastic for collection for each year it's published. This calendar series even inspired a three book series that is some of the best Trek I've ever read/seen. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Ships_of_the_Line

  14. The old Gallatin Gun Club is now the Middle Tennessee Sporting Association. We have a new location that we own and invite you to join as member of the range. We will have a 30+ bench rifle shed for 100-400 yard ranges, 2 trap stations and starting with 5 pistol bays. All the ranges are separated from each other with no overlap. Rifle ranges are on schedule to be completed by December 2018 with completion of the pistol bays and trap ranges by spring of 2019. IDPA, USPSA, 3-gun, ATA, high power, small bore and bench rest chair persons are planning events. These events will be slow starting at first because of ongoing construction. Stay tune for developments. We are planning on range improvements and adding new facilities in coming years as we grow. Oh yes, an Archery range is also in the works. Dues are a $200 one time application fee and $200 the first time then $200 per year after that. We have open spots, join with us as we grow. NRA membership is required alone with a clean record. ( It is a gun range after all) Contact Shawn Dorris at 615-452-5894 or shawndorris@comcast.net Mailing address is Middle Tennessee Sporting Association, PO Box 8846, Gallatin TN 37066 Range address is 319 Dry Branch RD, Dixon Springs TN 37057. This is just off highway 10 south of Layette TN.

  16. This is anecdotal but anyway..... My friend used to own a hardware store and I happened to see a product he was promoting up front called APC which stood for All Purpose Cleaner. I asked my friend, is this any good? He responded, yes it's great. Come with me. We went back to the aisle with all the other cleaners, and he said to me, see all these cleaners? They are great too. For something. But none of them are great at everything. I just like hearing that story so I tell it a lot.

  18. You can always go with the latest and greatest cleaning kits to come up the turn pike, I have found in the last 50 years of cleaning my guns, a good cleaning after shooting with an old type kit or a new type kit, it works out about the same. A good cleaning is a good cleaning.

  22. My wife has the original HS2000 that was re-badged as the XD. It's had a lot of cheap ammo go through it, and never missed a beat. No idea of the round count. I doubt it's as high as my 60000 round CZ75b. But certainly over 20000.

  26. I have a small closable cabinet above my bench for most of my cleaning supplies and gun smithing tools. An open shelf under the cabinet has all my solvents, extra ear plugs and such. I put a rack on the wall to hang cleaning rods and some other stuff. With all that the bench still fills up with things that I have to move. When I setup my new shop I decided to have a dedicate gun bench and it usually stays dedicated. I have the bench covered with low nap carpet and extra lighting above it.

  27. I’m with you on this. The indispensable part of my kit in recent years is some Norton’s Universal Cleaning Sticks from County Comm. https://countycomm.com/products/nortons-u-c-s-universal-cleaning-stick?variant=27918689798 Funny thing is, I had no idea I needed them until they threw a couple in with an order. Now I use them for all kinds of stuff and have bought dozens for folks.

Also make sure you tell all of your family each day that you love them, each and everyone that you talk to. I am very glad your daughters Guardian Angel was riding with her this morning................

  33. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/game-winner®-gun-cleaning-toolbox I bought one of those on sale for $20 a few years ago. Stripped the finish and re-stained it, then covered my terrible job with a bunch of stickers and pins from my favorite gun manufacturers. Holds most of my stuff decently well. I use some old pretzel rod tubs to hold my patches. Before that, I used a Homer bucket with one of these (or something like it): https://www.amazon.com/Bucket-Boss-10030-Bucketeer-BTO/dp/B00GK4TOWK/ref=asc_df_B00GK4TOWK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167152075853&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12381272050078821990&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1025990&hvtargid=pla-312236746975&psc=1

  34. Years ago, I bought a cleaning kit from Midway. It doesn't look like they still sell it, but it came in a large plastic box sort of like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Company-Ultimate-Cleaning-Handgun/dp/B00I81LC5A/ref=sr_1_12_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1549914280&sr=8-12-spons&keywords=gun+cleaning+kit&psc=1 I've found it to be a great place to store my cleaning tools and supplies.

  35. Try also to let her pick and choose without a bunch of input from you about caliber size, this guns better, etc etc etc. (speaking from experience). A lady at Fugates (where we did our HCP class) in Athens took over and did a great job with my wife. I saw first hand how wrong I had been in trying to "help". If she gets what she likes and is comfortable its amazing how much fun gun time can be together. Now she wants more guns and has branched out. Getting to make her choice (not what I thought was best for her) made all the difference.

  36. I keep the various solvents in small drip tip bottles that fit well inside a used coffee tub, the coffee tub lid keeps any smells down to a minimum or none. (Wife doesn't complain anyway). Patches are kept in the box along with the fold up Tipton gun cleaning rack. Rods are stored on a small rack over in the corner behind the internet router, jags and brushes in a MTM jag brush in the Tipton box as well. I have a similar set up for the range but everything fits in a soft side range bag the wife gave me except for the cleaning rods. They stay in a 2" pvc pipe with caps for travel protection, no damage in 2 yrs. I use my Bald Eagle front rest and rear bag to hold the gun while at the range. A multi-caliber bore guide fits in the range bag along with solvents in a small plastic coffee tub, the MTM jag box and patches. Has worked well for the past 2 yrs.

  37. Put the original sights back on, Trigger and period grips and you will get way more for it than the general consensus here as long as the slide markings are in fact original to that frame. As long as the parts are correct for that period, the Colts are high on GB like GS has suggested.

  39. Apparently y'all have no appreciation for the classics. How sad for you. I happen to be quite fond of the Walther PP series pistols. They're still around after almost 90 years for a simple reason. They work.

  40. If you bring a literal truck load it may be a wash once you calculate in the expense and trouble of hauling it here. Unlike Illinois you do not have to be a resident or live in a state that borders it to purchase ammo.

  41. It’s a dime a box. Doesn’t matter if it’s a 20 rd box or a case. It’s a dime that goes to the TWRA. It’s one of the least objectionable taxes in my book. If you stick around you’ll learn how big of a statement that is coming from me.
