  5. I agree with the statistics being to the point where not carrying is a perfectly valid frame of thought. I also agree with those who carry anyway because why not, just in case a pistol isn't that hard to carry and won't burden you all that much. The choice matters, but I don't think life can be enjoyed if you're constantly expecting the worst and looking out for it. Carrying a pistol and being ready to react is as far as I'm willing to let the tail wag the dog in my personal life on this.

  6. I had a lot of mil-surp .308 ammo laying around that I didn’t want to damage a “nicer” rifle so I bought an axis II and mounted an Athlon argos 6-24x50. I love that setup. The accuracy and consistency is better than I imagined and to be honest the rifle is much more accurate I am. This budget build was a great investment that gets the job done.

  12. Forty years ago, the wife and I were among 150 spirit-filled worshippers in a service when a "disturbed" young man entered and capped an ex-girlfriend who had recently given her heart to the Lord. An off-duty police officer jumped over two pews to wrestle the man to the floor and disarm him. We later learned that the perp had planned to shoot the pastor as well, but he had not yet entered the sanctuary. The woman died later at the hospital. This horrific act was thought to be unthinkable until recent years, but Jesus told His disciples two millennia ago that the devil comes "to steal, to kill and to destroy." Forewarned should be forearmed. I contemplated not carrying a gun because of my Christian belief until I read that Jesus, as He was being arrested the night before His crucifixion, told Peter to put his sword "in its place." He did not tell his disciple to get rid of his weapon for good. Self-defense is a God-given grace to us mortals to protect ourselves, the weak and the innocent. It has its place in our chaotic society more today than perhaps as it was then. We are living in perilous times when any atrocity is possible. In our peaceful community, I carry pepper gel into church rather than my sidearm, but recently the pastor announced a meeting to discuss safety and first-aid situations. I'm sure he will be looking for a few good men.

  20. Why does 80/90% of the people, of the world, just think they will never be in harm's way. I watched the T V news last week and saw the Muslims/Palestinian's pull up and jump out of a car, at a bus stop with many people waiting, and open fire with pistols killing and injuring, and no one had any way of defense. I mean just about everyone in their area are out to kill them. We don't face the problems the Jews do, but we still have a slight/mediocre. chance here in the U S/TN. How does people not see the risk and prepare themselves as best as they can. It just blows my mind! Like sheep being led to slaughter, so-to-speak. Last week I was drafted to be one of the security guys, at my present church where I attend. I am going to be in the regular rotation now. About 14 years ago, I started a "Safety Team," consisting of 17 volunteers, at the previous church I/we attended. I have become a little more mature, and driving at night is harder so we changed to a church much closer to where I live. Instead of driving 45 minutes we drive 8 minutes now. Big help for me with night driving. I call it my church, but in fact it is one body of the Lord's church here on earth. The team I started had to deal with several serious disturbances over the 14 years I was there. The church I am attending now already had a team, so they learned my history, and I got drafted. As I sit there in the entrance, behind locked doors, I pondered what I had seen earlier on the TV News how those Jews were just sitting ducks and wondered why they have not prepared, if they could. I prayed to God to keep us safe, and prayed I would never need to use my tools in any situation, however if I needed too, I would have the ability. I just amazes me!!!! I guess warriors are in short supply now.

  22. I just went and read about the Sutherland Springs Church of Christ in Texas. That was a very terrible day for sure. The shooter picked the day that the Pastor which normally is there and armed was not there. I'm sure the pastor would have been out gunned but maybe just the fact that the shooter was receiving incoming hot lead may have discouraged him. No one will ever know but I think anyone that is going to be in body armor to go shoot up a Church is afraid of being shot to begin with so incoming hot lead may have made a difference.....JMHO!

If we sit idle, they will get it all... From the article: “It is a public health crisis right now,” Waller told Channel 12 News. “If you remember many decades ago, there were a lot more vehicle deaths. […] That was resolved because people said, you know, we don’t want to take your cars, but we want to show you how to safely drive them and how to be a safe car owner. So, we think the same thing is needed for gun reform.

  28. Re-read Nehemiah. Paraphrased: And so we prayed for protection (first), and posted a watch day and night (second) against this threat. Yes, trust in God. And provide for your own welfare and the welfare of those entrusted to you. The two actions are not mutually exclusive.

  29. the dot and open sights do exactly the same thing....they simply tell you where your muzzle is pointed. I would argue the dot does that quicker and more accurately. If one is having trouble 'finding the dot' , it is generally a fault of grip.

  30. You are completely accurate. They just keep chipping away and our foundation is getting weaker underneath us. I have been a member and made consistent donations to the TFA for a long time now as well as being vocal on defending our rights in public and contacting politicians, but I realize that is not enough. I made a decision earlier this year to step it up and have been attending TFA meetings, educating myself more and will be making efforts to assist in educating others and supporting organizations in person and financially in the fight to retain our rights. At the very least, everyone on this forum should me a member of the TFA, subscribed to their YouTube and other media channels and as active as their time and budget can allow them to be. This is a fight for more than just the Second Amendment.

  31. Statistically, you're correct. Much more likely to die in a car wreck, from medical malpractice, or a long list of other things before we get to being shot. Talk with your clergy about the type of folks who they interact with regularly. I'd be really surprised if there's no one who's imbalanced to the point of being a little frightening. Ask them how many couples they're counseling. My previous pastor had some pretty wild stories (no names of course) about folks he tried to help over the years. Crazy people do crazy things. Churches are becoming more common targets. I'm not that hyper vigilant wannabe cop wearing my 511 pants, 9 line hat, and a fishing vest to church. But to Greg's point, I'm not gonna just lay down either. If I've got skills that can defend others, I don’t want to be asked to explain why I didn't try.

  34. Thank you all for sharing the pics of your pups! Just a quick post before I head in to work a bit. Good on you @A.J. Holst ! Awesome helper you’ve got. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Boo before and can confidently say she is a “Good Girl”, but I would not want to get on her bad-side. My pups, 2 sets of Pekingese (Bastian & Lil then Buckley & Grace) over a 25 year period are in Heaven guarding my Bride. But I know Rhonda has her hands full with them! Entitled little devils but they gave us a lot of love in their time. (My son just sent this pic to me after I told him about my vicarious living through it). Thanks again to all! The little guy is Poe. He’s resting on his sister Nala. Nala is a squirrel killer. Poe couldn’t be bothered with such.

  35. Matilda and Venus. Our Great Dane and our step dog. Venus belongs to my step daughter Timmy, our 7-9 year old part Dane rescue with Matilda Timmy and Matilda competing for Mama's attention. Don't mess with Mama, they don't like that. Timmy is 140lbs of attitude, he knows what you tell him, he just decides if and when he will do it. Matilda is 3 years old, covid dog, she sleeps between us. Venus is a big round ball of chicken. the pic of her laying with Matilda is because she couldn't get out of the corner.
