  3. A "brake check" is an all around bad idea under any circumstances. Without it and the flashers, guy probably would have just gone on past you without the histrionics.   He could have been a sociopath willing to use a real gun, ya know.   - OS

  4. Thats what he was doing, passing the slower car in front of him. Left lane isnt for doing 100mph, its for passing slower traffic.

  6. While we're at it, all you guys educate everybody else that the on ramp to the interstate is called the "acceleration lane" whereby you accelerate to speed and merge in.  You do not putt down the ramp at 35 mph and stop at the end and look at everybody else as if they are the moron.

  8.     It isn't about being in the right. I refuse to let other drivers dictate how I drive. I drive no more than 5 miles over the limit. If someone wants to drive like a maniac, that's his problem.   I've been driving legally now for 44 years. Took defensive driving; I understand the concept. Never had a wreck due to someone else's arrogance or insanity. I constantly monitor rear and side views, so I know what's coming up behind me and what's beside me. But when I'm going around someone, I'm not going to alter my speed because someone thinks they have more right to the road than I do. They can wait till I'm done passing, then I'll get over.

  9. Tragic for all involved. I have went outside plenty of times to check noises usually raccoon or squirrel on the porch or a dog. I live out in the country so I don't tend to call 911 every time I hear a noise outside. My driveway is 1/3 mile long and the area is wooded so you can't see my house from the road. We don't get a lot of unannounced visitors especially at night. It does not seem out of place to me to go outside to check a noise or suspicious activity on your property however you are still subject to follow the law.    The only time I have had someone come up unannounced at night I heard a knock at the front door at 3am and went to the door with my 12ga and it was a Sheriff's Deputy telling me there was a car accident out at the road and he thought it took out my fence but it turned out it was on the neighbors property. I just set the shotgun down and leaned it in the corner while talking to him. Later while we were down at the road the officer commented that most times late at night people are armed when they come to the door like that and it was not the first time he had seen that.   My grandmother had Alzheimer's and my wife's mother is in the beginning stages of it now so I know a little about that. When my grandmother still lived at her home my dad and his sisters would take turns staying with her and they had to put alarms on the doors because she was trying to leave the house at night saying she was "going home". She would get very frustrated and say that was not her house so they took her for a visit back to the old homeplace but she did not like that either. She had lived in this same house for over 40 years but she kept talking about a different house. This disease does not follow logic and rational thinking so there is no telling what was going on in the victim's mind at the time. The victim may have thought that he was at his own house when he went to the shooter's house, he could have even thought the shooter was a trespasser. Nobody will ever know for sure what he was thinking.   Justified or not I am sure none of us want to shoot anyone much less an unarmed innocent person. It is just a reminder that along with the hcp and carrying of weapons comes a tremendous responsibility. All we can do is hopefully learn from these experiences.

  10. Had this actually gone sideways, a brake check is considered an aggressive move.   I feel it's your fault for being too lazy to put your foot on the accelerator and speed up. You put on your four ways, you hit the brakes but all you really had to do was accelerate and get back over out of the way.

  13. And ball ammo will pass through the average person. I was shot by a 45 ACP loaded with ball ammo. Had it been modern ammunition I probably would have a lot more problems. When I got shot I had no clue I had been hit for 2-3 minutes until my leg started going numb. It went straight through and felt like a muscle cramp for a few weeks. I will NEVER carry any FMJ in any pistol.

  16. I do not need another AR. Ha. Just kidding. Of course I need another AR and I couldn't pass up this deal. All purchased from Palmetto State Armory: $49.99 Blemished PSA Lower $69.99 PTac Lower Build Kit w/Blackhawk Stock $279.99 PTac 16 M4 1:9 Complete Upper w/M16 Bolt Carrier Grand Total: $399.97. I will update with Pic's once everything shows up and I put it together. I couldn't be happier with this price given the past year. It will be my 4th AR and certainly the cheapest. I have plenty of mags and will top it with either a carry handle or a red dot from the parts bin. Once I figure in Shipping and FFL Transfer, my total cost is going to be around $460. Not bad for a quality AR. My only real gripe is that the barrel isn't chrome lined. Update 12/16/03: Upper ordered 11/26 finally shipped this morning so it should be here by the end of the week. Already have the lower build kit. Still waiting on the blemished upper ordered 11/29. Update 12/21/13: Upper arrived earlier this week and lower showed up at FFL on Thursday. Went to pick it up and sent of TICS . . . it didn't come back until Friday afternoon. At any rate, I inspected the blemished lower and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Likewise the PTAC upper and bolt both look good; I can't tell a difference between the PTAC and the premium PSA upper I have. Update 01/11/14: Finally got everything put together, but have yet to shoot it. I was unable to find anything I would consider a defect with the lower. The lower build kit went together without any problems. I would consider it on par with any other lower build kit. Trigger is fairly gritty and feels heavy but nothing out of the ordinary for a stock trigger. I am also very satisfied with the PTAC upper. Again, it seems on par with a PSA premium upper. I added a Stag A3 carry handle and a Magpul grip that I had laying around. For under $500 including transfer, tax and shipping, I am very pleased with how this build turned out.

  18. Just got this upper and mated it with a surplus arms pistol lower I had hanging around. Added a noveske hogs breath comp and a mp angled grip has 4 position gas adjustment on this.lower has a stark one piece grip which works nice and is light. The manual that came w it covered all of the sig gas adjustments to get rid of the mystery of "which position should I run". The upper came with rail covers, buffer and buffer spring.will head out today to get it dirty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.

  23. ^This.  You cannot make a tailgater back off, in any safe or legal manner.  Speeding up only means that he will be tailgating you at higher speeds, and possibly closer as your response encourages his ignorant actions.  Pulling alongside the other driver only served to potentially escalate the situation, and leaves you open to criticism as being a second "jerk" on the road that day.  Signals, head shakes, hand gestures and arguing with bad drivers over their irresponsible behavior on the highway will never be an effective way of dealing with these types of situations.  "Don't argue with morons, as they will only drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience".

  24.    Goldenrod a must and bolt the safe down a must.  Anything beyond that is just to make us feel better.  A friend of mine is a cop and he once investigated a home robbery where the perps stole a bunch of Dewalt cordless tools next door and used a 18v circular saw to go right through the garage door in minutes then helped themselves to the contents of the garage.  The door alarm on the "people" door never went off because the door wasn't opened.    whitewolf, I'm not judging, I'm laughing.

  25.   What are those "many more options" in pistol caliber carbine for "not much more money"?   I can realistically think of only one that really fits that, the KT Sub 2000, if you can find one for less than twice as much lately, but the HP is actually more durable overall.   - OS

  26. Had a State Trooper one time tell me that the speedlimit is 70MPH. He said I was doing 82. I told him I was passing a vehicle. He said "let me repeat myself". You were doing 82 in a 70 mph zone, I don't care what you were doing. The speed limit is 70, not 82! I think my Firefighter plate got me out of a ticket. Simply put, passing in the passing lane is NOT an excuse to speed. Both the right hand and left hand lanes are posted 70MPH. We don't get to pick and choose. If the OP was doing 70 in the passing lane, then he was 100% correct! He just happened to get in front of a jerk! The left lane isn't the speeding lane, nor is the right.   DaveS

  27.  I think what kills me about professional sports is there are no real professionals playing sports.  These so called professionals can't speak English even though they are born in this country.   These same so called professionals seem to have trouble keeping their junky asses out of jail.  I've had zero trouble, as an adult, seeing the difference between right and wrong.  There is never any real sanctions for the trouble these guys get in.  The owners don't care if these guys kill kittens as long as the "professional" brings an income to the team on game day.  Cities pay millions and millions of MY money to build stadiums that are used a few dozen times of the year and employ a few dozen employees for a few months out of the year while the same cities discourage a big company from coming in and employing hundreds of employees for the entire year.  But why would a city leader want to sit in a skybox at Acme Tool Works.        But that is one mans opinion.

  30. I drive for a living, and if I decided to interact with every dumbass who can't drive with a lick of sense, I'd never get any work done. I have long learned to ignore it. If I see something obscenely crazy, I have been known to dial *THP.    Under no circumstances should you "brake check" someone who's following too close. You're just asking for trouble, especially if the driver behind you cannot react fast enough to prevent an accident at 75 MPH.    I'm not sure what you expected to accomplish by pulling along side the other driver. If anything, you created a more dangerous situation for not only yourself, but everyone else on the Interstate. It's simply not worth it.

These days finding someone even in the meat business that knows what to do with a whole carcas is hard to do. I am one of those guys that would never let someone else process a beef for me, way to particular about how things are done.

  37. Deer down on 11/27 around 4:45PM EST. Snow hunting 2013 - Hunting on the family farm in West Virginia. Saw 9 does that day and no horns. Went ahead and took the biggest doe I had seen all day. She was a big one! Shot with a Remington 700 .308 WIN and Leupold VX2 scope. Not sure what happened on this first picture. My cousin couldn't quite figure out how to take pictures with my Android: She had to be at least a 150lb doe. Two of us struggled just to get her on the back of the 4 wheeler (after being field dressed). Should be good eats!

  38. of course we don't know all the details but based on what I read my opinion is the shooter should be charged at least with manslaughter. this appears to be a shooting that should never have happened but for the foolishness of Mr. Hendricks. this shooting seems to me flawed for the following reasons  a) Hendricks was secured inside the house and not under thread of harm or death B) Hendricks had contacted police and should have remained inside the house and let the police do their job  c)  Hendricks did not identify his target as a threat, I find it hard to believe that any 32 yr old would feel threatened by a 72 yr old if he had just identified the target  with some kind of light  d) Hendricks violated the stand your ground law in that while we don't have a requirement to retreat the law does not give us the right to advance on some one. I feel Hendricks made the same mistake as Zimmerman in that neither understood that self defense should never involve an element of offense or looking for trouble. self defense with a gun should only be a last resort when no other way is available to prevent harm or death to our self or those we protect. Hendricks actions did not meet this standard in my opinion.   disregard the smiley face don't know why its there and could not get rid of it.

  40. Hey guys I work with chemicals everyday. A warning against any drum or tote is to be perfectly certain that it was used with a  food grade product, I would need to see a label and a MSDS before I used it for water to drink. I asked our supplier the other day how much a bottle that is the plastic container inside the cage cost and it was $95 new however it was not rated as for potable drinking water, the materials are FDA compliant but he said the grease that was used on the valve wasn't so they couldn't be listed as good for potable water. Also plastic HDPE type that drums, pails and totes are made of are porous and if any "bad" stuff has been in them it could leach out for years. Please be careful with used containers. I plan on having some under my gutter I will install on my barn, but use the water for garden if needed. Stay safe!!

  41. Two weeks ago today, I adopted an 18 month old male basset hound through Belly Rubs Basset Hound Rescue. I just couldn't go without a hound any longer. :) His name is Wally and he has an interesting story... About five weeks ago, an elderly couple who live in Lenoir City were RV camping up in the Smokies when they saw this dog wandering toward them. He went to the door of their RV and whined like he wanted to be let in. Being dog lovers themselves they obediently opened the door at which point this hound went inside, promptly jumped up on the sofa and went to sleep! He was a bit of mess, dirty and tick infested...they washed him up in their on board shower and dealt with the ticks as best they could and too him to their vet to get fully rid of the ticks. That's when they contacted the rescue organization. They named his Wally and I decided it's a good name for him! We don't know much about him but it was obvious that he had been on his own for a while. He is negative for heart worms which was a big relief but he was positive for worms which he's been treated for and we are also treating him for a couple of bacterial infections (ears, toenails and positive for a tick born disease; all of which is very common to basset hounds and especially in Tennessee) but overall, he's a pretty healthy boy. Based on his teeth, my vet believes he is not older than 18 months. He's already made himself quite at home here and quite at home with me...I still miss my girl Millie and I suspect I always will but Wally is a great hound and already a good friend! If you have or ever had a dog who has made you laugh, brightened your life, and every day silently accepted your tears without judgment, snuggled with you, forgiven your faults and loved unconditionally - dogs are a gift that most of us don't deserve!

However, downtown has a higher number of posted businesses than anywhere else in the area and not all of the signs are as easily noticeable as I would think they should be. If you remember that "concealed means concealed" you should be ok.
