Or, we need to get past the idea that doing something legal is a crime anyway because it offended or startled someone.6 points

Crow Facts Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu. A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu. The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts. However, during the detailed analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by an impact with a car. MTA then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills. He very quickly concluded the cause: When crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger. They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "Truck."5 points

I just visited a Walmart store that I've never been to. A really nice manager said " looking for .22"? I said no, I have given up to the hoarders and gypsy resellers. He said " try back tomorrow , this store is now going to set ammo out at random times. We are tired of making 5 resellers happy and pissing off 500 customers who actually but other merchandise. " holy cow!!! This is the fair way to do it. I hope they really do this. The store manager said he's tired of the reselling and tired of the upset customers who want ammo. Win win!!4 points

We've really got to get past the idea that there's a loophole to justify the lack of common sense every time someone does something legal but stupid. If it was inventory, it could have and should have been cased or cartoned.4 points

I couldn't resist posting a picture of this bruiser I killed a couple weeks ago. Just now figuring out how to post pics. 11 Pointer, biggest I've ever seen, especially for an East Tennessee dear. Think I'll quit and go out on top cause I'll never top this one!3 points

Two More Vintage .22s One of my neighbors is moving to FL. They are getting on in age and none of the Kids wanted Great Grandpas rifles. I have known these folks for five years and they know my affinity for firearms. This was the first time I made an offer for guns where they refused my initial offer because it was too high!! I offered twenty five dollars less and they caved. I also received 100 rounds of 22LR and a 12 pack of Yuengling. I haven't dated the two exactly yet But they are roughly vintage mid 1930s. Remington Model 33 bolt action single shot. Winchester Model 63 Semiauto. Blowback operation. These two rifles spent their early lives earning a living hunting rabbits and squirrels in East Tennessee. They carry their minor scars of two generations of use with elegant grace. $150 for the pair. The Winchester easily breaks down in seconds.2 points

Picked up a Remington 700 AAC-SD .308 before Christmas. Did a lot of searching and finally came up with what I wanted to do with it. All of the stuff I ordered came yesterday, so I went ahead and installed it. Just need to get it out to the range and get it dialed in. Harris 6"-9" Bipod Nightforce Remington 700 Mount with build in rings Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP scope Initial impressions: Feels nice and stable, crisp trigger, free floating barrel isn't so free floating when resting on the bipod. Probably get a cheek rest for it and hopefully a suppressor by the end of the year.2 points

...is in the dehydrator! Cant wait for it to be done!!! The smell is already blissful. I used a sweet and spicy recipe. Im not kidding, i hope it tastes HALF as good as it smells. Sorry for the crappy panoramic pic, you get the idea though. As for the stuff in the background, we like our liquid encouragement in this household. That is all.2 points

This time of year just slip quietly through the woods and I would leave Fido at home. Stop, look and listen, then make your move. Expect to make longer shots than what you are used to making earlier in the year. Or.....you could climb a tree and pretend you are deer hunting, and I GUARANTEE you will see more of them pesky things than you could imagine! This is a REALLY good recipe. Although, I deleted the lemon juice and replaced it with a healthy dose of Wild Turkey American Honey. I have some in the dehydrator now. I can't be around it when its dehydrating……I'll be knawin' on raw meat like a frickin' dog! Man it smells good.2 points

I've been there, my brother lived there for about a decade. The city has some great stuff to see, so do a lot of cesspools. I live in Memphis, so I know a thing or two about crappy cities. There isn't anything wrong with Chicago that a squadron of B2s loaded with napalm couldn't fix.2 points

Don't be sorry , I think Glock will be for not releasing this in 9mm . I bet this will increase the S&W Shield 9mm buyers . I have a Shield right now and love it even though I am a die-hard Glock fan . What the heck was going through Glock's mind besides that young nurse of his ?2 points

PM expl Ah, now I see...said the blind man. Ok, here's the deal. Your reference to a character based on a "Jewish gun dealer" had me thinking of my buddy. Bill Bernstein, owner of Eastside Gun Shop, here in the East Nashville area. I just took your comment literally, as if you knew of him and perhaps were using him as a model. After re-reading the post, I see where I went wrong. My Bill, aka "The Rabbi" or "He who must not be Named" is great guy. But is quite a character at times. I'm pretty sure you'd like him.2 points

Not really. Yes, FSU won, but I think that if FSU had played a schedule as tough as Auburn or Alabama, they would have never made it to the championship game.2 points

It turned out to be a good season for me as well. I really have to admit that y'all taught me a lot. This is the first year that I have NEVER taken a buck (by my choosing). First one on opening day was a young spike buck. Last year I would have shot him dead without a second thought. I let him walk to give him another year to grow. It felt pretty good. I have some wallhangers running those ridges on the property, although I don't care much to kill them, I did miss one the second day of muzzleloader season. I decided "what the heck, I'll just trophy hunt this year. So, after listening to a couple of y'all on (letting little bucks grow big) I got six Trophy Does, well, at least to me they are! Don't misunderstand me here...I'm not going soft on my stance of shooting what I want and I had several opportunity's to take a young buck and "opted out" on them. Plus, I kinda figure by letting them grow a little...well you know the rest. I have no one hunting my property with me (no one at all hunts but me), maybe, just maybe, one or two of y'all on here will be my hunting guest next year. Dave2 points

It was 39 and snowing at 5AM. By 7 it was 20 and everything had iced over. Down to 15 now but the roads around here are clear for the most part. When I let the dog out for his 1st wizz of the day he went out the door at his normal speed of about 150 mph. I tried to slow him down but it was too late. He hit the ice on the driveway and the wreck started. For a moment he looked like he had 10 legs and 3 buttholes but he managed to correct the spin and stay upright. Pretty damn good driving on his part. Then he froze. I yelled my head off but he just stood there with a come and carry my ass back inside look in his eyes. So of course I went out and carried him back in. He's not got within 10 feet of the door since then. I've laughed all morning about it.2 points

I was in Walmart a few days before Christmas. I stopped by sporting goods and seen a line of about 10 or so people. From the looks of it most were picking up guns. There were some 22 on the shelf as well so who knows. I was looking at some scopes when I seen some adults act awful. Well a mother, and her son who didn't look 10, were there picking up his Christmas present. He was getting a nice bolt action 22 which was probably his first "real" gun. After the background they began ringing up the purchase but before they paid they asked for a few boxes of 22. They weren't getting all of it but you wouldn't know it based on how the adults were acting. The second she asked for the two boxes a universal "huff" came from the crowd followed by comments about how it was BS followed by a lot if whispering. It was enough that the mother was looking around to figure out what was going on. Hopefully the kid didn't catch on but the mother sure did. I say this because something needs to give when adults are bitching about a kid getting a gun and ammo.2 points

My backrgound... In 2008 my son (then 11) was diagnoised Type I diabetic. He spent 3 days in Vandy Prediactic ICU. Both my wife and myself took a series fo classes from Vandy as well as read everything we could. We have done volinteer work with the JDRF and my wife is part of a small "network" of Mothers who children's are Type I diabetics in our community. I'll be the first one to admit I don't know everything! New advancements and products are introduced everyday and what works well for for one person may not work well for another. However I thought this might be a good area to help each other share some ideas on the the storage of insulin, questions and any helpful suggestions for people. *Disclaimer: I am not a licensed medical professional or a Endocrinologist... information posted in this thread is obviously for evaluation and you should always perform your own due diligence when it comes to medical matters. When in doubt talk to a Endocrinologist! First the basics... What is the difference between Type I and Type II? Type I = The pancrease no longer can create insulin. The Beta cells (that create insulin) are dead. Type II - The pancrease can no longer make enough insulin that the body needs on it's own. This is typically treated with medicine, diet, exercise and in some cases insulin. Is there a cure for Type I diabetes? No. There is only treatement. (Currently there are some studies involing beagles where they have been able to get alpha cells to mimic beta cells and star producing insulin, but even teh scientists say that "IF" it works where many years (20+) away from human trials. There is a pancrease transplant (I have a Type I friend who is on the list in Ohio right now.) however you need to be having other problems with your pencrease and meet pretty ridgid critera to get on the list. Plus it's expensive. But I heard that if you got these berries from the north side of a mountain in the rain forest that it would cure it... have you tried that? No... that is a myth and is both redicious. (This is what makes parents on Type I's want to start beating people.) Is there an alternative to Insulin? No. You will read on the internet about making your own from horses and other animals... and people on the internet (who don't rely on insulin to live) will throw up the argument that "That's how they used to make it!" Yeah... it was also unstable, varied from batch to batch and almost impossible to get ratios right for people. However, it kept them alive. Human based insulin (which we have now) is some of the best we have. It's stable, keeps well, etc. Good book to read about insulin and how far we have come is Breakthrough. Insulin Refrigeration... Yes... insluin needs to be refriderated when stored. AFTER it is opened it can be kept at room tempature. Typically the pharmacist will tell you 30 days then it begins to lose it's integrity and your ratio may not be as affective. The main thing you want to watch is if it is still clear and not cloudy. Basically you don't want to let it freeze nor do you want it too hot... like leaving it in a car in the summer. Glucagon Injections... These sucker are EXPENSIVE! About $100 bucks a piece. They have an expiration date on them. When you pick one up make sure to check the date, you want one that will be "good" for the whole year. However, talk to your doctor about the life span of them. Mine told me they might not be as effective as one that is within it's date range but it would be worse not to use if that is all you had. (We keep all of ours.) Also talk to yoru Endo nurse and she can order you a free "trainer" to practice with.1 point

While I wouldn't be one to OC an AR, I can't help but be a little disturbed by situations where people are charged with a crime simply because someone felt uncomfortable. Strictly from a legal standpoint, other than a little common sense (we hope), what's preventing someone who's OCing a handgun from being charged for the same crime?1 point

Update: got the replacement, and yep this one: - has much smaller dot, actual 4 MOA I assume, not a distorted 10 or more. Though it's not a perfectly uniformly lit precise dot like I assume some higher end ones are, at least it's the right overall size. And of course it is possible my vision is no longer optimal for this time output, but it's plenty good enough to use it. - brightness responds correctly with single clicks in 10 steps, up or down (or held down). - even the end caps "snap" in place, unlike the other one where you had to press on two or more edges to get it sealed. Didn't expect a diff with that, almost like first one was made from different specs. I notice that this one shipped from WV and the first one from WI, so maybe a different production run or something, who knows? At any rate, pretty confident this one is doing its thing as designed. Appreciate all the input folks, and Neil and Garufa, sure do appreciate y'all's personal hands-on regarding this. - OS1 point

When you yell fire in a movie house and there is no fire, you are lying. Yo can not use the 1st to cover you a$$. Some religions believe in human sacrifice, God asked for a man to kill his son, God stopped it. Is human sacrifice wrong, in my eyes yes, but who am I to judge. Freedom of assembly is regulated on public grounds, ie, parks, state buildings and such. However if I want to have a few people over to my place, it can not be stopped. The 2nd does not list "what" kind of arms we can have, we have them just so we can keep a free state. In 1934 IIRC is when full auto was taken, now 70 years latter look where we are at. We are standing in line to tell the government what we have. CT, NY, DC We can not have mags bigger than 10 rounds. Some states Every firearm bought is keep on a list forever. CA after 1/1/2014 Thia crap will never stop, unless we get out the vote, tell all your friends to tell their friends. Start at the local level, city mayor, elected LEO, counsel members. Move on to the state level, and on to Washington. The very sad part, we just maybe to late. I feel we did stop the AWB last year and the push for tighter back ground checks. The progressives will never stop, as said in another post, when the progressives lose they just regroup and come back fighting harder.1 point

I have to say I'm bot surprised at this guy - we have plenty of "firearm enthusiasts" who are just fine if the only allowable firearms were O/U shotguns or muzzle loaders or bolt action rifles (that support whatever sport or hunting they are into). Sometimes conversations with such as these can be fruitful but not often; usually it's just best to write them off to their idiocy.1 point

It was behind Whitt's BBQ next to the Toyota dealership. AFAIK, it's closed. I've heard that the property and range equipment were sold together, and I've heard they were sold separately, but don't know who to believe on that one. If they sold together, it will likely re-open under new ownership in the same spot, but since that hasn't happened yet, I'm inclined to think the range equipment was sold to a second person who has probably already pulled it out and taken it to wherever he/she is setting up a range. That's just speculation on my part. Personally, I'm disappointed that it's not the new home of GnL South. :surrender:1 point
