I'm neither "sheepish" nor a "nervous Nellie" but in this day and age if I see a stranger walking through a shopping mall with what appears to be a loaded AR15 slung across his back I'm going to call 9-1-1 (while I have my hand on my holstered pistol looking for cover) because given what has been happening in the world I'm NOT going to just assume that the stranger is harmless. I'll let the LEOs come and they can sort it out and either arrest him or let him go on his way. If some folks here don't like that reaction so be it; I'd rather be safe than dead.3 points

That's why we should bring the issue up ourselves. Out of nowhere, bring up a bill to repeal some small part of federal firearms law, just to bring the issue back up and actually take a dang proactive stance on gun rights. Just to stick it in their craw...2 points

I've got about 30 pipes at the moment. I've been sorting through them lately trying to reduce it down to about 15. I mainly smoke my Ferndown's and Peterson's, but have a few Stanwell's, Dunhill's and a Castello. My Ferndown's are my favorites. I like just about everything McClelland puts out, but I mainly smoke 5100, Dark Star and Frog Morton on the Town. The new Frog Morton's Cellar is nice too. Other than that I smoke a decent bit of Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Dark Flake Scented and Brown Flake Scented. I used to smoke more often, but lately I've just been smoking 4 or 5 bowls a week. Usually on my way home from work.2 points

Being charged with disturbing the peace was almost in line with what actually happened. The guy caused a disturbance to effect more than one person in a public place. Not to mention after that first call came in how many pieces of equipment with first responders and aircraft were dispatched.....that's the quiet part. Beaumont is not a peaceful city and has had more go on than I care to share. Guy could have walked in through a service door or as mentioned used a case or carton or even broken it down for transport. The fact that he went Into a game stop on his way in wasn't too smart. I hate to admit it but folks today need to be aware of individuals bringing big guns into a mall or shopping area. If this guy was in Israel or some other area he would have had his butt kicked for being the trigger of a false alarm....none of us have seen the official report on this, just the news pop...my vote goes for stupid versus rights issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.2 points

Humanity survived atmospheric and sub-sea nuclear weapons testing, and will survive this. BTH, I saw news reports screaming about radiation levels of 1.8 Becquerel per liter (of radio-Cs) - basically two disintegrations per minute per liter of water. To put this in perspective, that is less than natural background levels overall, and is less radioactive than a banana. The professional communities response over all this reaching the USA is expressed in terms of :snore: I do like the price of fish dropping. I have been eating better.2 points

I've been a pipe smoker for many years. While my collection consists of about 80-90 pipes, I probably smoke only about 1/3 of them on a regular basis-- some are so expensive (original vintage Preben Holm freehands, a Mark Tinsky, a few Dunhills, etc) that they never leave the house. I mostly smoke English and Balkan blends w/ lots of latakia and oriental tobaccos, or if I'm in the mood for something different, a nice Virginia/perique blend or Virginia/burley, or possibly some navy-style plug. I very rarely smoke any aromatics at all-- never could find one that that I could get along with-- not much on super sweet stuff.2 points

ALL HK91s are preban by nature of the model. HK changed post 89 to a completely different model denoter. These post guns not only were not called or stamped 91s but also came with the new neutered thumbhole "sporter" stocks as they called them ... models were things like HK911, SR9s, etc... A registered HK sear can indeed go into ANY HK9x model host.. 94 (9mm), 93 (5.56), 91 (308) as wells as the SP89 (9mm) pistol... those are the only 4 host ATF allows the sears to go in. Monetarily nothing really special with this 91 aside from any other 91 and if he was offered $3k and turned it down then he basically turned down a $800-$1000 profit in today's market. Unless it's unfired in the box and comes with some accessories in my opinion he's way off market. Yes a transferable sear can be put into these....and while there technically is a finite number left, I haven't seen them too difficult to find... see one on the boards every week or so.... been so for last 15-20 years that I've been looking. There was a few years back in the 70s where a company called MARS imported them for HK. Some of these early 91s came in with factory correct push pin front holes. ATF quickly jumped on this and now that is why the HK9 series semis have that shelf up front. These MARS do have value to some as you could physically, although not legally, and extremely easily put an unmodified factory full auto trigger group on them with no modifications necessary. There was extra value in these back in the late 80s and early 90s as the proverbial SHTF nuts liked the idea they could have a legal semi and maybe another family member keep some legal full auto parts separately that would simply pop on and off with no modification should the end of the word come... we didn't really worry about Zombies back then ;o). There is no way to put a full auto trigger group on the later semi HK/clone series host without making modifications to the trigger pack itself that immediately constitutes an illegal contraband machinegun. Fast track to a nice stay at your nearest pound-me-in-the-ars federal prison. So, as Dolomite stated, if it wasn't papered on a Form 1 or Form 2 as a machinegun before 1986 the host itself will never be considered a machinegun... you can purchase a registered sear (currently ~$25-30k) or a 02 SOT manuf. like myself can convert them into a post sample machinegun available only to law enforcement/govt entities. HK sears were great conversion items as one could have 1 legal sear pack and by swapping ejectors and hammer springs only, you could legally move that pack from HK host to host. So 1 sear would work across all the different caliber hosts. The sears themselves had the actual serial number engraved on them but most conversions would also have this serial number engraved on the host weapon. It's impossible to see the sear once it's inside the pack so most hosts had this info on the receiver for psuedo form validation. Another note is if a host has a sear pack on it, it can then have any length barrel, stock, etc... there was a term with these HK sears, similar to AR drop in sears where the host would be married to the sear on the form registration. When you see them term divorce the sear, it simply means folks who would want to separate the sear from the host would have to get that host removed and legal w/out the sear. A short barreled host with a sear would have to have it's receiver registered as a SBR if one wished to move that sear away from the host. Many original conversion back in the 80s had these associations to keep from paying a double $200 maker fee to make the machinegun sear and another to make a SBR while at it... when you were talking about a $600 host, a $5 sear, another $200 that wasn't explicitly necessary cut deep into your profits back then. Oh the good old days.. back in the 80s the MAC10s were $199... man then $200 to transfer it ... what we wouldn't give ;o)2 points

Anyone think that if the guy had actually been disturbing the public by running around, waving his arms, and hooting loudly (but with no guns), the most that the police would have done would be to ask him to stop, or at worst, eject him from the mall? Instead, because he has a gun, and a few people noticed it and said the right words, they charge him with a crime? What should have happened is this: sheepish people call to report a man with a evil gun; cops respond; cops question him and realize he is not on the verge of a mall rampage (as evidenced by the fact that he responds to their questions and does not try to kill them); cops tell him he is free to go, but possibly give non-binding legal advice that the man's actions could be considered alarming. Our whole justice system is based on innocent until proven guilty; that concept has been corrupted in modern times. It should be that the LEOs use actual investigative skills to determine if a crime defined by a specific code has been committed. Only then should the person be arrested. Instead, many LEOs seem to adopt the mindset that if someone called the police, then someone else must be guilty, and the encounter must end in an arrest. A simple conversation and review of the relevant code (that we have all seen) should have told them that no crime was committed. Instead, "to be safe," they get a warrant to arrest him and let the courts sort it out. By the time it gets to the court, you have already lost, even if you are found not guilty. The authorities should be making much greater effort to only arrest the truly guilty (even at the expense at letting some people go), rather than arrest any innocent person. I would probably not carry an rifle into a mall just because I don't wont to be hassled. However, my decision is solely for me. Some nervous nellies calling the cops because they see a man carrying a slung rifle is as bad as someone calling the police because they see 4 black guys that they are afraid may start a Knockout Game. In both cases, the fear is unfounded without further information. If we feel that we must hide our guns to protect the delicate sensibilities of the uninformed, where does that slippery slope end? So many states require guns to be hidden, as if they were a dirty thing. Once you start requiring those dirty things to be hidden, then you start punishing even accidental exposure. Even in Florida, which has a law protecting against accidental exposure, I have no doubt that there are those in power who would punish you (formally or informally) for revealing your weapon; perhaps they will use "disturbing the peace" as the charge. Eventually, society slides down to a point that even owning a gun is a sign of mental illness. I can honestly say that if I saw a man carrying an AR-15 slung on his back with his arms full of other objects, I would watch him as something interesting and unusual, but I doubt I would be on high alert if there are absolutely no other signs that he is a potential mass murderer. Granted, I have never been in a mall mass shooting, but I suspect the demeanor of those perpetrators were a lot different than this man in Texas.2 points

That’s why cops will always respond to a man with a gun call; it will never stop no matter what the courts do. Idiots like this guy and our local idiot that pulls this kind of stuff will cause open carry to be banned before the cops are forced to wait for someone to lose their life before they act.1 point

Just my :2cents: but all cars equip with fuel injection has a cold run injector that introduces extra fuel into the engine for a couple reasons 1st being it supplies the engine with the required amount of fuel for cold starts and also aids in supplying the engine with enough fuel to get it through the cold run cycle at a normal rate according to engine requirements. On extremely cold days that cold run injector will continue to produce extra fuel longer than in normal temperatures and once the motor warms up it is suppose to discontinue operation. Yours may be working beyond the point of a warm engine which in turn will cause dark gray smoke from unburnt fuel in the exhaust. The fact that the noise is louder than normal could be as several have mentioned above and you could have a cracked manifold. I went through that a few years back on my jeep during some really cold weather. I was driving it after it had warmed up and it had began to rain and I hit a puddle of water and almost instantly the Jeep exhaust got louder signaling a cracked manifold. Son removed it and used nickel welding rods to seal the exhaust back closed. I didn't have a warranty due to age of Jeep. If I had a warranty I would have had it back the the dealership the next day. That is what warranties are for...............jmho1 point

Inflation is neither good nor bad. It helps people in debt, actually --- they owe less. If I owed you $1000 today when a dollar is worth a dollar, and pay you tomorrow when a dollar is worth 75 cents, I win. On the other hand, if I have $1000 in the bank, and tomorrow its worth 750, I lose. So if inflation looms, go into debt :) (or, really, spend the decreasing value $$ on stable investments like gold etc).1 point

tanker why don't you call the dealer you bought the truck from and explain to the service department your concerns. they might be able to tell you if you should bring the truck in or not. this might save you a trip and some time if they tell you its no issue. however based upon what you've said I think the following may be happening. in the process of combustion many pollutants are produced that the modern exhaust system turns into harmless water. perhaps you have seen water dripping out the tailpipe of your car on occasion. if you are parking on the incline with the tailpipe on the higher side the water may be collecting in the exhaust and burning off as steam. in the process it picks up soot and comes out a dirty gray steam. the fact this smoke happened after sitting 20 minutes would account for time for the moisture to collect. if the problem continues try parking with the tail pipe on the lower side of the incline so water can escape and see if problem continues. if so I would definitely take to dealer. on a side note I would add that idling a engine for long periods is the most harmful thing that can be done. in cold temps it is best to start the car and take for a short drive if one wants to start the motor from time to time. this allows any condensation to burn off and heats the system better. the list of problems prolonged idling can cause are to long to list here. good luck1 point

i wonder doing away with kill tags and the check in system change has anything to do with it? Like not everybody reporting their harvest? Last year, we had physical paper tags that had to be attached to the carcass in order to be legal. Now you can do it on your smart phone, on the web, or just go to a check station, no kill tags involved. Leads me to believe some people arent using the new system like they should, and not checking in their kills1 point
