You can now carry a gun in your car in Tennessee without a permit, Illinois now has carry permits and the Illinois Supreme Court has acknowledged carry outside the home as a right, DC gun ban is probably dead, all the gun control the feds have tried to pass has been shot down. So I don’t think the gun community needs or deserves a dressing down or name calling. But that’s just my opinion.15 points

I think folks need to fully understand that we have a federal government, specifically within the executive branch and with accomplices in the congress who are, in fact, at war with the citizenry... The war is a cold war (...thankfully...); but it's a war none the less... The political class calling the shots today is for the most part a redux of the "Divine right of kings (...and queens...)" to tell us rabble what to do and how to do it; with a good dose of post civil war reconstruction thrown in.. Look at the pronouncements of Elenor Holmes Norton the other day... "... You (... citizens...) have no right to know everything that government does..."... The left wing of the Democrat party and some complicit republicans believe that they are, in fact, the smartest people in the room and that they can do anything they are big enough to do... They are busy trying to turn this country into a land of serfs and slave masters; with them being the masters, of course; and folks need to understand that fully... That's why it's so important to vote these people out... If you don't beat them politically, you may be called on to beat them with the bayonet; and no one wants that... I'm a relatively old geezer and ive never seen the political scene as hot as it is today... It's that way because of an imperious, overbearing, hateful, vindictive would be tyrant is sitting in the white house with a bunch of like-minded lieutenants; and if it's possible; the same sort of person is sitting in the majority leader's spot in the senate... The bottom line of this little epistle is as the elections get closer; these idiots will get worse and more high-handed... Remember to vote early and often; these sons of b****es will... leroy10 points

Dude, seriously, run! Let the other dude have her. "Fight" for her? It's one thing to compete with another guy for that initial attention from her, but you don't marry someone when there's still that "fight" going on, PERIOD! She either loves you or she doesn't; end of story. This is coming from a man who's been married to my one and only wife for over 35 years. We got married when I was 18 and she 17. EDIT: And women claim that men have commitment issues! :shrug:7 points

Folks, 2 cycles are the best bang for the buck. More power per cc, no ifs ands or butts. The problem, 99.9% of the time is the al gore ethanol! In fact, many companies won't even warranty a brand new machine if you run that crap through it. I'm not saying you can't but you need to add stabil ethanol fix and preservative. The ethanol leaves a tacky residue in addition to attracting water and those are death to a small engine. So relax, drain the old fuel, let it dry out a bit, get fresh fuel add the 2 stroke oil, stabil, even if you get the ethanol free add the preservative. pull and clean or change the spark plug and if need be clean the fuel strainer, its on the end of the fuel line in the tank. Then add your fresh fuel and give it heck. A properly lubed 2 stroke should last a homeowner many years before it needs maintenance. This fuel is the worst crap for em. Of you don't feel like doing all that and want to buy new, let me have your old one :)4 points

You may want to try this starting sequence....... 1. Full choke, full throttle. Pull it till it burps. 2. Immediately go to 1/2 choke, full throttle. Pull it till it starts. 3. Immediately take choke off and rev it and you're good to go. Normally it's about 3-4 pulls before I have to go to 1/2 choke. then a couple a more and it's running and if yours has the lil thumb pump on top of the carb I pump mine around 10X before I begin the start sequence. Crazy as it sounds over the past 25 or so years I've had 3 of the things and every single one of them started that way. Hope it helps ya.4 points

Dude, do the hard thing now. I'm telling you, if money is the most important thing to her, you won't ever be able to make her happy. You can't buy love. You can buy plenty of lust, but it ain't the same thing. There is someone out there who will appreciate you for who you are, even when who you are is a broke ass man. And if there isn't, sometimes you can have a lot of fun looking.4 points

Time to say bye to her... right now... not later, or see what happens... tell her to get lost. Even if somehow you "win" her today, you see how she is, and this will be a reoccurring problem for years until you go through a horrible divorce... and if you have children with her, you'll never be rid of her.4 points

Ditch the fiancé pronto. Mr. Michigan is likely all talk, don't aggravate the situation by responding. You don't need the drama or BS. Don't think for a second you owe him an explanation on the sudden dropped comms either. Just start saving any threatening or criminally incriminating emails. I imagine you can report him to both the local police and FCC, but I'd be willing to bet that he won't hang around stalking you once he gets the idea that you're not going to play back.4 points

What lowpower said. 100% gas too. Generally, 2-strokes are meant to run at one speed... WFO. If run at half throttle, he exhaust will coke up to the point that it restricts flow so much the engine won't run anymore. It can also help to run the fuel mix with more oil. Most newer ones run on 50:1... Try 40:1 instead. It'll run cooler.3 points

Honestly at this point i just want to know your justification for staying. All signs point to GTFO. Lets recap, she has an ongoing "connection" with this guy that she values more than her connection to you. She does not feel you possess enough value to be of benefit to her. You apparently already didn't trust her, hince the searching for and finding the communication. At this point why are you staying.3 points

TN knife maker Jon Graham has been making custom knives for a long time over in the Chattanooga area. He is a well respected craftsman and always has a waiting list going. Like many of the most popular makers right now, Jon was looking for a way to get more knives into people's hands. Well, he has licensed a few designs to CRKT but thats not what I mean. People want his work from him. The way many people are getting their work out there now is to send off a design to CNC and have the parts cut and mostly machined for them. This leaves final fit and finish for the maker. The popular term for this is mid-tech. Hence, GMT or Graham mid-tech. Jon's first mid-tech was recently just before Blade 2014 with the majority of them being sold at the show. I was lucky enough to pick one up. These knives are half the cost of a full custom and a little more expensive or equal to the high end productions on the marker. The frame is full titanium with titanium standoffs. Screws and pivot are stainless. Blade is CPM 154. The entire knife features a stonewashed or tumbled finish. Here is a picture of one as Jon delivered them. The one that I picked up, well I'm fortunate to have great friends and before I even left Blade Show, I already had a replacement titanium pivot installed. But that wasn't enough. The guy that makes the Ti pivot also makes Ti screws (Steven Kelly) and Steve told me that I needed a full Ti setup. So after he got home, he sent me a set of Ti screws to complete the set. I got them a couple of weeks ago and installed them. Not a huge difference to be seen yet but it is another step in the evolutionary phase of this knife. So that last picture was taken thursday. By Friday afternoon, I made a very noticeable change to the knife. I traveled down to outside of Tupelo to my friend Chad Nichol's shop. I was fortunate enough to be on hand for the anodizing process. My first time seeing it done. Seems simple enough and way too much fun. Blue is a higher voltage so we ran it to blue first. Then put the frame halves into the tumbler until the blue was nearly gone from exposed areas. Turned the voltage down to get bronze and then redipped the frame halves. I really like the way that the frame came out. The little bits of blue that break through the bronze give it a bit of a worn look. And the bright blue screws, standoffs and pivot are a nice accent. The pivot was done at the same voltage as the other parts but it went a little purple. At some point I'll likely take it back down to plain Ti and then try to get it to match the standoffs and screws. Doing stuff like this is dangerous for my bank account because now I want to get a power supply and start playing around with other pieces. This is a really nice knife and I enjoy it a lot. Jon is already working on the second mid-tech which is going to be a version of his stubby razel.2 points

Are you tired of ugly, dull edges? Or maybe you're sick of going to the gun shows with a sack full of knives to be sharpened at $5 or more dollars a piece. Maybe you just wanna be the envy of your friends with mirror polished, straight razor sharp, hair popping edges? I'm gonna show you how to take a mediocre edge to mirror polished and hair popping in just a few min. for about $20 worth of material. The first thing you need to do is run to walmart and pick up a few things. You will need: 220 grit sand paper (optional) 400 grit sand paper 600 or 800 grit sand paper Mothers aluminum polish Mouse pad Super glue Cedar clothes hangers Rubber bands My total on this was $20.73 at Walmart. You can do it cheaper if you have some or all of this stuff in the shop. So gather your materials The first step is to super glue the mouse pad to the cedar coat hanger board, material side down, rubber side up. Any good flat board of appropriate size will work. Then trim to size. Now add your 220/400 grit sand paper and secure with rubber bands. It is easier if you trim it to fit, but you don't have too. Use 220 if you are reprofiling a very bad edge, or 400 if the edge is already in decent shape. These are the edges we are starting with. The bowie is already belt sanded to 320 grit. The case is my work knife and hasn't been sharpened in 2 months Now, with a draw stroke motion, drag the knife edge across the sand paper. You will need to find what angle and pressure works for you. I use a low angle and moderate pressure for mine. I draw mine 45 strokes per side. This gives me a count so my edge stays even. You can color the edge with a sharpie to make sure you hit the whole edge when you first start to help you find your perfect angle and pressure. Added by Broomhead BTW, if you use wet/dry sand paper, add some type of oil to it, I use 3-in-1. It'll create a slurry which will, A. Keep the paper from clogging up so fast by floating the metal shavings, B. Increase the effectiveness of your work by reusing the released grit, C. Make your strokes smoother for fewer errant scratch marks before continuing on to the next higher grit, and D. Keep your blade oiled. When the oil starts to get too thick, wipe the blade and add a little more oil. If the paper seems to stop cutting, replace it and add more oil. I doubt you'll need to do either for a knife or two, but you might need to if you're doing a lot.

Also, gently wipe your blade with a paper towel, shop rag, etc, before moving onto the next higher grit so you won't scratch your nicely sanded blade halfway through that higher grit and have to redo your hard work. Next swap out for the 600 or 800 grit sand paper and do the same thing. A 600 will have a more aggressive bite while 800 will make a cleaner slice. Another 45 strokes and you should have a sharp workable edge. But its still not to the standards we are looking for. My phone died so I dont have pictures of this edge. Now if you are like me, you may not have an appropriate piece of leather. If you do, use that for the next step. If not, use the box your sand paper came in. Trim it to fit the mouse board and mount it with the rubber bands undied/un colored side up. Add a finger full of the mothers in streaks. Now strop with light to moderate pressure. I use 30 strokes per side. This will make a mirror polished hair popping edge. Now test out your edge and enjoy the results. I hope you have all enjoyed and learned something from this little tidbit of info. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I would love to see some comments if this has helped you out, and I'll be happy to try out and add any suggestions you might have to the write up.2 points

I hope you get out now. I worry you won't. You are being played, and so is the other guy. And probably another one, at the least. Even if she is your meal ticket, this is a worthy event to go crying home to mommy and daddy to lick your wounds, a best friend's couch, anywhere but where you are. I don't have a horse in the race. But crazy is easy to spot, and in this case she is wearing a bright neon shirt to say so. You know what you need to do OP, you didn't need us to tell you. But if us telling you makes it easier, so be it.2 points

Well, the 20" Solo chainsaw lives again!!! The jury is still out on the weed eaters... I drained all the fuel from the tank, the bulb and the lines. I removed the spark plug and sprayed some PB Blaster Lawn Mower Tune-up spray in the hole, replaced the plug and gave a gentle pull on the rope. Then I submerged the fuel filter on the end of the tube in a cup of that PB and drew it up through the bulb and into the carb. I sprayed a little more PB into the throat of the carb. I let it sit for 15mins. Added a little fuel, and it cranked right up. The weedeaters are drained and drying out. I'll work on them more tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for the advice and tips. I've learned a lot from this thread, and I'll treat my engines a little different going forward.2 points

I have two Shindaiwa's that I've had for 5 or 6 years (pre-emissions crap). I wouldn't take a $1,000 for them. My forearm would when the engine starts burning it though :) I only run non-ethanol in them, even though it's a pain in the rear going to the few places that still sell it around here anymore. But they run like champs and I like to believe that not running ethanol has at least contributed some to that.2 points

weedeaters and consumer chainsaws have small carbs and the orifices inside are tiny. It does not take much to stop one up. Certainly the fuel is the main culprit. Seems like gas today can go stale in 30 days. Be careful using either for starting. It will wash down the cylinder walls and on 2cycles there is no oil sump so you'll get a galled cylinder wall and reduced compression. The best thing to use instead of either is WD40. It will run great on it and won't mess anything up. Smokes pretty good, but is a good way to tell if you have a fuel or ignition problem. On repairing the small carbs. Sometimes they are just junk and can't be fixed. They can be replaced, but the cost is probably not worth it. If you want to give it a shot at repair, stop by AutoZone and pick up a gallon can of Berrymans carb cleaner. It's in a paint bucket. Will probably cost you $35, but it will last forever. Only get the Berrymans, not the Gunk brand. Disassemble the carb and drop it in for 24 hours. Take it out and rinse it with hot water then blow out with compressed air. Put it back together and see what happens. Small 2cycle carbs are hit or miss on cleaning this way. For larger carbs Berrymans can be a miracle cleaner. Forget the spray stuff, soaking is the only way to go. Wear gloves, the berryman's smell has to wear off and it takes about 3 days :D2 points

We just did a carb rebuild on a leaf blower. No joy. *then* for some reason, Dad grabbed the cylinder head. It was about to fall off. This thing was running when I last put it up He tightened up the head bolts, and the ****ed thing cranked on the first pull. Compression is necessary. (also be sure the gas & vent lines to the fuel tank are not broken (weedeater just did this)2 points

Every marriage required work and effort on both parties. But for her to tell you "you gotta fight for me", is very immature. She's emotionally cheated on you. This can be reconciled but only with cutting off the third party and the "mode of communication" that brought it on to begin with. That's step #1, step #2 is counseling, then you decide further steps. If she doesn't agree to #1, the step #2 is that you leave her behind. Sever all ties, and communication. Walk away and don't look back. It's very hard, I've done it with an old girlfriend , but it is a necessity step to not get lulled back into this bad relationship2 points

This is all you need to know, you aren't #1 or quite honestly probably not #2 either. If you live with her and it is her place, move out. If it's your place and you can't afford it now without her, move out. Hopefully you have some family and/or friends to lean on, but don't lean on or just stick around because she may be able to support you. Get your ducks in a row and get the hell away from her asap.2 points

You got trolled by the poleese man...Some of these idiot officers like to talk a big game, but in the end, they all know that they don't really stand a chance against the armed populace of this country...they may have some nice tacticool gear at their disposal, but they don't stand a chance in hell of defeating 150 million citizens with firearms<---( a number that most likely rise dramatically once a so called "gun confication" program was initiated )...Remember, the ones that beat their chest the loudest, are typically the ones that know they are at a disatvantage... I get slightly irritated when i see our average citizens talk like they are somehow at a disadvantage when it comes to our local/state/federal govt...I tell people that think this to relax, the govt, most of all, wants us(the people) to go to work. go out and buy stuff, and pay our taxes...A true gun confiscation scenario is about as likely to happen as all of us on here winning the powerball lottery...2 points

Yeah Erik, is correct, no state income tax. Coming from KY where I paid a 5.8% state income tax @ $60k per year, I completely lost over $3100 per year and got zero back... well, normally I would have to pay $30 to file my state taxes, then it would sometimes get me between a $20-40 refund. This is on top of the state sales tax which is 6%. Higher sales tax and no state income tax is awesome here in TN because it is essentially a system of consumption taxes only. The state income tax is just money you lose, the more money you make, the more you lose. To put it in perspective, using the TN sales tax of 9.25%, I would have to buy an additional $103,000 worth of taxed stuff every year just to negate the state income tax costs from KY.2 points
