  1.     Wait, wait! You're missing the point!   How did we miss an estate sale that had 3 truck loads of guns?! :stunned:

  2. Man, I never even get an onion ring in my French Fry order.  How do these guys end up with awesome buys like this?

  3. The guy was insight of agents, wasn’t armed, and was detained. He was not an immediate threat; had he became one I’m sure he would have been shot. I’m also sure had he been shot on the lawn, the same people that question why he wasn’t shot would be calling him an overzealous citizen and calling for the agents head.

  4. I am surprised that we have not had a group open fire on crowds of innocents. I suspect a major assault, by a group of terrorists, is being planned but are looking for the ideal place to get the most bang for the buck. Another reason why I am surprised it has not happened it because of how easy our jails are and how lenient our courts are. They could kill dozens and as long as they plead guilty they would live out their lives in much better place than their homeland.   After it happens there will not be a call for more of the populace being armed for protection but a call for guns to be outlawed which we all know will never work. And because these types are going to use "assault weapons" there will be another round of scarcity and high prices afterwards.   My only hope is that there is someone armed to at least try to fight back when it does happen.

  5. Guys and Gals,   if this one works out, I will continue, I have a couple planned for next year, Dave the owner of Pro Tech has gone out of his way for me to do these knives, they are the best company that I have ever dealt with,    Now in the Beginning these knives were promised to be delivered by Christmas, now if I have enough orders on the 15th of October, these should be delivered to you homes mid November or sooner.    I appreciate each and every one of you Gents for your support and I hope you all know that

  6. Well, Roman is 7 months old now. Took him to the vet, he's healthy as a horse and trying to become one  He weighed in at a healthy 51 pounds and is doing great. Disclaimer: it's not as cute when he flies over the back of the recliner and tries to lay on my neck anymore LMAO!

  8. HIPOWER is right on the mark.   WILLIS68: I know exactly how you feel. I have initiated and facilitated literally hundreds of group-buys over the years for many things including amish beef jerky, amish smoked cheese, brazilian lump charcoal, guns, ammo, military surplus items, etc. etc. I have also planned and conducted a massive gun owner picnic in middle TN for several hundred folks with multiple dealer sponsors. In each case I spent at least 50-100 hours dealing with the planning, communications, sign up, payments, execution, and cleanup, and I did it all for the grand sum of $0.00, not even getting a free or discounted item for my trouble. In fact I usually end up being shorted on my own order because someone inevitably comes up short or complains about something and I give them something from my own order to make it right. Or in some cases I had to cover unexpected expenses out of my own pocket so I actually lost money on the deal. So it really sucks when you have invested so much effort and time (and perhaps some money too) for little or no personal gain, only to have the deal fall short in the final execution phase. At least in your case you are getting a few benefits from Pro-Tech for your trouble, and I hope that this is always the case since I fully respect the effort that goes into a deal like this.   There are a few things you may want to consider regarding this current group-buy, which might help to explain the lower participation and slower payment issues: We just recently completed a similar group-buy for the LG-101, so many members that would normally be interested may not have enough discretionary cash free to buy another high-end knife so soon. This is primarily a gun forum, so many of our members may have a limited interest in knives. This is especially true for high-end knives, some of which cost as much as a new or slightly used gun. Anyone with kids is likely still recovering from the back-to-school expenses and related expenditures such as clothing, sports, school events, fundraisers, second cars, etc. This Godfather knife is significantly more expensive than the recent LG-101, further limiting the audience including those who may really like it but just can't afford it, or those who aren't able to justify spending so much on a knife. Some folks may be reluctant to spend so much on a knife that they will rarely use, either because they don't normally carry a knife like this, and/or because these custom knives are so nice (and expensive) that we wouldn't want to mess them up by using them too much. I know that with my own LG-101 I love it and like to carry it / show it off, but I am loathe to actually use it for anything that might significantly damage or mar it, so it is mostly just a decorative accessory that will likely end up in my safe after the novelty wears off in a few months. TGO has also run a few other group-buys in recent past, including the CMT lowers in 5.56 and the soon-to-be-executed CMT lowers in 308. So some folks that might normally participate in a group-buy like this may have prioritized their funds for these other items first, and they can't afford to do them all. Some folks may be anticipating yet more TGO knife group-buys in the near future, and perhaps they are waiting for one of those models instead of the Godfather. Some folks may be waiting to pay until the absolute last minute, as they prefer to let their cash sit in their own back accounts until the deal is really ready to execute. I was in this boat until recently, and to be honest I only paid when I did because I felt that the deadline was really 9/15. If I had known it would be extended to 10/15 then I would have waited until the last week or so to pay. The delivery window is unspecified, only that we should have these before Christmas, and that is a pretty long time to wait for gratification after paying for an item like this. I know I am extremely anxious to get my knife already, and I was not too thrilled to hear of the payment deadline extension, because I had assumed that we would get the knifes much sooner than November or closer to Christmas. There are other factors too which I am sure would explain our current status, these were just the factors which came to mind quickly. So don't take it personally if the turnout and payments are not as high and as fast as you had hoped. Also, it would seem to me that Pro-Tech would be foolish to turn down the order even if we only hit 35-40 knifes total. That is still a lot of business and I am sure they are making a pretty hefty profit even at these reduced prices. But if not, and the deal falls apart for any reason, then you should still be satisfied knowing that you did everything possible to make it work. My hat is off to you, and I hereby volunteer to help you with coordinating, planning, communicating, and executing this or any future group-buy.

  10. I just read the links to the wbir stories in the original post, I had not seen this knoxnews article. Sounds like it would be left up to a judge to decide if this prayer meets the requirements of the "ESEA" section about prayer at school events and if it was influenced by government agents in violation of the "ESEA".   I understand that this topic has some members fired up but I was disappointed in the response of fellow TGO'ers to the OP's request for prayer in the General Chat section of the forums. If it had been a post he started in the hive to debate this topic I could see it going that way. I see prayer requests listed in here from time to time for any number of issues; illness, death in the family, personal problems, loss of job, etc and it was disappointing to see others use that as an opportunity to tear someone and their beliefs down.   Just my 2 cents.

  15. Greg,   I'm the first one to say SCOTUS gets it wrong a lot...  but I think we both can agree neither of us want the government endorsing one religion over another...  because while today in this case they might be endorsing the Christian faith tomorrow they could be endorsing a religion that makes both of us uncomfortable.   There are two SCOTUS cases you should read up on...     The first is Abington Township v Schempp 1963, involving asking students to read the Lord's Prayer...  which is on the mark...   The second is Wallace v Jaffree 1985 which involved the creation of a period of silence for the purpose of private prayer.   The basic rule that SCOTUS developed in these cases is the 'secular rule test', which basically says if the actions by the government or it's agents must have a secular purpose for their actions not a religious one...  if the actions are motivated by religion then those actions violate the establishment clause.   If you look even more recently at Santa Fe Independent School District v Doe 2000 SCOTUS ruled that even student led, student initiated prayer is a violation of the establishment clause...   And even if you don't buy the SCOTUS rulings...   You still have the TN state constitution, which clearly prohibits a human authority from interfering with religion, or providing a preference of one religion over another....   Even if SCOTUS is wrong and the 1st Amendment protections aren't incorporated by the 14th Amendment (which would also mean that Heller and McDonald were also wrong on the 2nd Amendment)...  you still argue that States have the right to regulate religion via their own constitutions... and TN has done so, banning the legislature and any sub-divisions of it (which would include all schools), and any human authority, which clearly the principal acting as a government agent meets that definition...  are prohibited from giving preference to any religion over another.   Anyway you cut it, the Principal was in the wrong... he knowingly and intentionally violated both school board policy, as well as both the Federal and/or TN state constitutions...  And in the process of committing those violation enlisted the help of kids under his charge in this unlawful action acting in his official capacity as an agent of the government.   This is from Pew summarizing a number of cases here in the south by state supreme courts, including cases in TN:     Clearly the principal in this case has admitted to both encouraging the cheerleaders and recommending the contents of their speech at a school activity.   Greg, I'm sorry, but you're wrong...  the TN Constitution as well as the US Constitution clearly restricts the actions of a government agent while they're performing their duties...  There is no question his actions were unlawful.

  18. Good lord, our government's obsession with barrel lengths... how is this news, why would the police care and why would this "good Samaritan" go through the trouble?  If I discovered that a barrel was too short after buying something like that in bulk, it's too easy to junk the barrel and get a new one.  Not like it's a machine gun or a bazooka.

  19. Swim - I built my 9mm DDLES AR as a pistol with a 7" barrel. I run it with an AFG and a saddle on the buffer tube. Can't say enough good stuff about it, did I mention it uses Glock "Happy Sticks"? It has been flawless through about 600 rds. If you're interested here is a link for the stripped lower http://www.riflegear.com/p-1647-double-diamond-ar-15-9mm-glock-magazine-lower-receiver.aspx, I bought mine from the mfg but they were not very CS savvy. It uses the ramped bolt for the glock mags, other than that everything else is the same. I'll post a pic from when I finished the build in a few, it's on my phone.

And yes, he is a great friend, and I'm so thankful for him. When he gets into the Mrs. flower bed though, they are not the best of friends...for a minute LOL Who can stay mad at that face!??!

  29.   I blame MIke.357, he started it :D.   But honestly, to me, the demarcation when someone gets engaged in debate on religious views seems to be when it's not involving a direct personal impact.  I think that's a fair method since I would never want to give someone going through a tough time with themselves, family or friends more on their plate by engaging in a topic as hot as religion. I would also consider someone who couldn't keep their thoughts to themselves in that instance in bad form.   But for generalities, I think it's a fair topic.  Especially this one since it involves a public institution which we all have at least some investment in- they get state and federal money.

  31.   Why would you eliminate the best feature of the gun?   All revolvers intended for defensive use should use moonclips.  It's just a much, much better idea.  All revolvers intended for defensive use shouldn't have exposed hammers either, but that's another subject.

  32. I would'nt be surprised if the feds learned about it and investigated the estate sale. Or do they bother with minor stuff like that? I also wouldn't be surprised, given the reputation of the feds if they didn't at least harrass the buyer even though they turned in the short shotguns. "No good deed goes unpunished", That is often true. They would probably have a hard time prosecuting someone for it though. Wonder if you turned in the "barrell" of a short shotgun and kept the reciever and stock, if that would be acceptable? I guess turning them in would be the safe thing to do, if it was learned later that you bought some short shotguns and didn't report them that could get you investigated and searched, and possibly arrested. My solution if I were King of America would be just to void the stupid 1939 law knowing very well it does nothing to stop criminals from murder. Although a little more concealable, you can't kill anyone more deader with it than a legal one.

  36. Willis, as I have said many times...Thank You for all the work you have put into this.   Too many don't realize the amount of time and labor that goes into setting all this up.   Dealing with the knife company initially organizing a buy.   Getting people interested enough to sing up for a buy.   Dealing with a design.   Getting it approved by potential buyers.   Getting that design worked out by the manufacturer.   Getting the "buyers" involved to pay, and do it in a timely manner. Almost having to threaten and beg to get us to pay up after signing up.   Then all the time you have involved in just sitting here compiling names and address to send them out.   Plus the amount of computer time you've spent just watching this and answering questions and responding to comments.   I'm sure this has been an emotional and physical drain on you. And I fully understand your reluctance to do it again.   For my part, I think you are a great person to have taken this on; and I gratefully acknowledge your efforts.   Many Thanks, and as my beloved grandmother use to say. "Until you are better paid...Thank You."

  37. Nonsense. Nothing keeps you from sending your children to private schools. But many people can’t afford that and children need formal education more now than ever to be able to compete in life. Social skills, religion and moral and ethical attitudes is part of that. If you don’t agree with what they see and hear in school then you do something about it at home; you don’t fire the principal because he suggested a prayer. Many parents teach their children they are entitled and protected by the laws and the Constitution, and that they don’t have to answer to anyone. Nothing is further from the truth and they find that out when they get out in the workplace. You can’t fire everyone you don’t agree with and in the case I doubt the parents or the students would stand for. Firing a principal for suggesting a prayer? I can think of some places and some times where that would not have surprised me. But most of us in this country haven’t fallen that far yet.

  42. What tickles me is that non-believers get so upset about a simple prayer. If they don't believe what are they afraid of? No one is forcing them to pray in any form or fashion. What is so wrong in respecting the rights of others? No one should be forced to do anything religious against their will....I firmly believe that. But can't they be quiet for a few seconds...check the sports scores or headlines on their phones or even play one of the stupid on line games?
    1 point
  43. If a person or group of people want to pray they have every right to. If a Jewish or Muslim wants to pray, that's fine too. What I will never, ever understand are people who say, "You can't/shouldn't do that." None of your business. Just because these kids are at a public school sporting event they don't suddenly lose their right to practice their religion. A person, or group of people praying has no effect on the rights of others. The reason people have a problem is because they "feel" excluded. Just like carrying a firearm makes people "feel" uncomfortable. Laws formed because of "feelings" are bad laws. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
