  1. Looking back I should have walked in on my crutches and let him settle it.   I don't care what kind of day you are having if you are tainting customers and calling them names you should not be in contact with those customers. There are consequences, Karma, for being an ass.

  4. An Ellisville school teacher called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.  The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house. The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.  Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:   1 . The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.     2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.     3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.     4. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.     5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.     Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and moaning.     Thought you'd like to know.

  5. If you can't afford to save, then you AREN'T living within your means no matter how much you think you are. The reality is that most folks don't have as much means as they think they do. As far as social security goes, just because person A stole from person B, it doesn't justify person B stealing from person C.

  10. Saw this coming from a mile way. Was planning on placing my resignation on Thursday to give them two weeks to hire a semi decent replacement. Well they beat me to the punch. Where not too happy when I outline the faults with the management and the awful record of employment selection. But now they have their wish with getting rid of the last original.  Good thing I have another opportunity lined up, and am grateful for it.  But I cannot wait to walk in there tomorrow, drop off my shirts and walk out with my binder full of sales leads and plans.  And when they ask me "whats in there and what are you taking", I will tell new the "manager" my sales and customers that will not be going to your store.   Oddly enough. I feel great. I never said no, covered shifts at locations that where over 100 miles round trip and havent had a vacation in three years. Hell, I will go shooting tomorrow to celebrate. And enjoy my last day of fall break.

  11.   If you're working full time and unable to save, you're not living within your means. Sorry.    I agree, we should help folks who fall on though times; when we choose to, and not through the government. The .gov stealing my money through the tax system to give it to someone else is not helping the less fortunate, it is theft. Help should be (and is) available to people through a large variety of charities that rely on voluntary donations from people, and a lot of those donations would be a lot larger if we weren't already forced to 'give' to the less fortunate by way of government thuggery.    By my logic, folks on SS are leaches because they depend on the government to retire.    Yes. That is correct. I'm sorry you chose not to save money or decided to quit working at 60 years old, but it's not my job/ duty/ obligation to support you for a decision you made just like I didn't expect anyone to come swooping to my rescue when I quit my job.   I really wouldn't feel bad at all if the government stopped sending out checks to everyone other than employees who actually show up and work tomorrow; and those employees should get nervous because a large portion of the beuracracy would be unnecessary with no more entitlement programs. "Oh, but what about the so-and-so group who depend on those checks?" Private charities will fill the gap.    Will it ever happen? Nope. Not a chance. Too many people are too comfortable with big daddy government there to hold their hand, or they get scared when they see the hard times that will have to come before things can be fixed. We'll never see the US Federal government shrink down anywhere near what it truly should be, but just because it won't happen doesn't mean that it shouldn't.

  12. I spoke the company that manages that particular Burger King. They manage the BK as well as several other restaurant chains that are a much higher quality. The guy I spoke to even said that if it is remotely close to how I explained it the manager will not be there the next time you step foot in that burger king. He was very apologetic for what happened and said there is no excuse for a manager trying to taunt a customer to come inside or to call a customer stupid. He was going to have their store manager call me, it was an assistant manager who did this. The person I spoke with said they do not have audio on their phone systems when I asked them to check but he did say that there is video all over that store. He took the time we placed the order and assured me he was going to check the video. He said it will be obvious from his demeanor what happened as well as the fact there is at least one employee who will be willing to tell the truth with regards to what happened.   Trust me when I say I will hold him to his word and will follow up to find out the final outcome.

  16. I have BK9 (Barking Dog) security.  She isn't monitored but she sure is loud and I don't have to worry about power outages or wires being cut disabling her.  She is a mixed breed but I think there must be some kind of hound in her woodpile as that is what her 'serious' bark often sounds like.  As I indicated before, having monitored security wouldn't do me any good, anyhow and would probably just be a waste of money because, as the old saying goes, it would all be over but the crying by the time police could arrive, anyhow.

  19. I ALWAYS make sure I have my cell phone right next to me at night. Funny thing is the last time we had too call 911 my wife brought her cellphone to bed but forgot her glasses so she could not see to dial 911. Make sure you have everything you need right next to you and that you, and your family, have a plan. I have a plan and the final part of that plan involves patching hundreds of holes in the drywall if we have an intruder wanting to do us harm.

  20. Anyone who has met me or who has talked to me will say I am the nicest guy and go way out of my way to help people out. I am never looking for a fight, either verbal or physical.   My phone call started with me asking for the assistant manager's boss. I was nice and polite until he said the only person I am going to talk to was him. And even then I did not cuss, yell or do anything other than ask for the number for his boss. Had he done nothing wrong he would have gave the number out willingly. But when I was unwilling to accept the fact he was not going to give me the number he began telling me to come inside to settle this and when that did not work he began the personal attacks by calling me stupid.   I know a lot of people have reasons to have a bad day, I have plenty, but you will NEVER hear of me ever taunting people to fight or name calling.

  21. I really have thought long and hard why Buds opened a shop in that area, because the likely consumer that knows about Buds.com, is already a serious gun nut, and won't bite on the storefront guns due to the sales tax thing.  Tourists passing through Sevierville or coming out the SMKW store, likely will stumbled upon the gun store because of the word "guns" in the name, not necessarily "Buds".   Unless Buds is trying to become a destination spot which I think they are too small for that, I don't really understand their business decision to locate in that location and to have a super nice indoor range, unless this is a beta test store.  Sevierville locals and that side of Knoxville is not well known for having large populations of large disposable income (I am from Sevierville, I know).  It would have made better sense for Buds to have located next to Gander Mountain or somewhere similar to take advantage of the large disposable income in that area.  Since likely the bread and butter of Buds will be that nice shooting range, they would surely have more participation from West Knoxvillians vs. Kodak citizens.  Separately, I did read somewhere maybe in the SMKW product catalog that the owner of SMKW and the owner of Buds were best of buds (no pun intended) for a long time.  This is likely the real reason, since both stores are in close proximity of each other.

  22.   And the next Ahole in line for that position will take his place. Having worked on that side of the counter for a short stint, that kind of sorry attitude is the trickle down effect. Sorry manager, leads to sorry staff. I would just mark that location down as DONE and move on. Much like I have many places in town, food or otherwise.

  27. I would imagine its similar to how S&W amd others did their guns. Some guns that old were made before they had model numbers, such as a S&W pre-29 .44 Magnum. When you went to buy or order one, you just said, a S&W .44 magnum, because they only made one kind, then later, companies gave their guns model numbers or names. But that is just a guess

Thanks everyone for your solid information.   It turns out I may have corrupted my copy of the Safari Web browser perhaps due to my using a hard drive "file cleaning" software program to create some extra disc space. Got to be careful using those.   Thanks again!   ps - My first photo posting was in the General Chat section whiskey & spirits thread!   :yum:

  29. It’s called States Rights; we fought a war over it. The Feds can say you have a right to keep arms, but until they are responsible for law enforcement they can’t say you can bear arms. I don’t want federal law enforcement and I won’t turn my back on states right just because it’s convenient for this issue. We had an opportunity the last time this came up, but I saw where some of the pro-gun people said it’s better to do it in “baby steps”. I don’t know how many more small steps we need.

Missed one day of pay in the big picture.   In the big picture things could not be better.   One door closes, another door opens.  Or some such....

  38.   Glad you have a backup plan.  A lot of people would be in trouble in the same situation.  The most sage advice I ever received was "the best time to look for a job is when you have one," and it seems like you had that in mind.   Just be careful with what you try to walk out with.  A lot of places have it built into the employee agreement that whatever you do/develop/invent for the company or on the job is no longer your stuff but their property.

  39. It really is sickening that this amount of time has passed and .22 ammo is still this ridiculous to find. I haven't pulled the trigger on anything in that caliber since this crap started getting nuts-o. Leave what I have in the ammo can and if I happen to walk in somewhere and there's a box there, I'll grab it. Chances are I won't even notice since I'm out of the habit of checking for it to be there.

  42.   you can't do that right now.   Look at your load data, memorize the 10 or 15 powders (or make a list of them for quick ref) that work with 9mm (for example) --- when you see one of them, buy it.   It all goes bang.  It may not all be the best possible bullet you can craft, but passing up a vat of AA #7  because you wanted win 231 or power pistol is silly when the shelves are bare.

  46.   My take: if it causes any legislative change, it will be to amend 18USC 922 to make it clear that trusts and corporations are also banned.   I doubt there are 25 Republicans in the House or 10 in the Senate that would vote against that. Maybe if it includes raising the NFA permit to $5K or something instead of 200 clams, but I'd doubt even that having a chance.   Or just another "interpretive" Executive Order as stop gap measure at the least.   Hell, we haven't even been able to get federal switchblade law overturned - think they're gonna let everybody and his brother have an inexpensive tommy gun?   - OS

  47. I wouldn't throw it away if it was given to me but I have zero interest in owning the gun simply on the basis that it was used in a mass shooting.  IMO anyone who would want to own a gun simply because it was used to kill people is sick in the head.  I would have no issue owning a gun that was used to take a life, but the fact that it did so would not add any appeal for me.

No charges filed for taking the bear.
