http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/20/news/kalashnikov-made-in-usa/ Something I didn't expect to see during shot show, apparently Kalashnikov is going to get around that pesky little import ban and start making rifles here in the US. According to AK Operators Union "AK News BOMB!!!! Kalashnikov concern is in process of opening production here in USA. If everything will go well, we will see first, made in USA Kalashnikov Concern AKs later this year!!! All calibers will be produced, including Saiga 9 in 9mm." Fingers crossed nobody screws this up, more competition hopefully means lower prices on the toys I want to buy.6 points

They are the sons and daughters, and in some cases, the grandsons and grandaughters of the hippy trash i stepped over goin to school at UT in the middle and late sixties... I didn't think they would amount to anything or affect anything... They studied political science and pot chemistry; if they studied at all... I studied engineering; they studied causin trouble and changin the world... I didnt believe they could; but sadly they did... Come to think of it; i shoulda stomped a few of these sons and daughters of perdition on the way to class instead of stepping over them and laughing at them... leroy6 points

As much flack as I get for this opinion, I'd support raising the age by a year. It's amazing how much growth happens between 16 and 17. On a semi related note: I would be fully behind repeated driving tests each 5 years for life5 points

I finally ventured into the 1911 world over the weekend and I'm pretty happy. I put 100 rounds downrange with only one FTF. The gun even ate Gold Dot's without issue. This gun is around $100-150 more than the regular SR1911 but it comes with night sights and better grips(IMO) so I think it was worth it. Plus, I think it looks a hell of a lot better than the standard Ruger. The only negative is that the trigger leaves a lot to be desired but it's already getting better. Now I just need to find some 8 round magazines and a nice leather holster. What do you all carry your 1911's in?3 points

It is very easy to check for a drain on battery when truck is not running. Turn off everything in truck. Take positive cable off battery and hook a simple 12 volt test light between positive battery cab;e and other end to positive post of battery. If it lights up you have a short or a drain somewhere in your electrical system. If you want to check further with the test light still hooked up just begin pulling fuses from fuse panel 1 at a time and see if any of them shut the light off. If one does that will give you an idea which circuit the problem is in. If the light stays on after all the fuses have been pulled then the issue will be either in your starter or your alternator because neither one of them are fused...............just kind of a simple test...................jmho3 points

Optima Red Tops last me about 2 years. The bottom line is, fiberglass mat can't do what lead can. Duralast from AutoZone and the Wally batteries are made by the same co, and Wally has them cheaper. You really need to check that charging system though. If it is eating batteries, there is a reason why.3 points

"You see that mountain over there? Yeah, one of the days I'm gonna climb that mountain..." This one is from several years ago in Wyoming. My last trip out west to "fight" fire. We stopped to take some pics of the Tetons. And of course the obligatory pic of my little boy.3 points

Ron, Chip Cain and John Wall are both respected attorneys and are Vendor partners here on TGO. They both charge reasonable rates and their work is worth their fees. Beyond that, they support this site and make it possible for you to be here enjoying it. I thought we had put to bed the idea that economy is the key when doing a trust. You get what you pay for, and people who are doing NFA items generally are not operating under "money is tight" situations.3 points

There does seem to be disturbing similarity between some of the pictures shown. And what is worse is that some of us not posting pics follow that pattern. Is it something in the water around here that makes so many of us look sorta round and bearded?3 points

Seems everyone's favorite, Jane Fonda, is making the news circuits wishing she could undo her Vietnam photos. She understands the veterans feelings when they protest her appearances, but they still cause her pain, she really did support the U.S. Troops and was trying to do her part to end the war. Seriously Jane? Do you think anybody is that stupid? To all who served, "Thank You"2 points

I got 9 years out of the first red top optima battery I bought. I have a yellow top in my FJ.....my FJ is yellow, I had to get the yellow one! I have a blue top in my wife's Camry. It was on sale. Everyone has different experiences and circumstances. I have found Optima to be everything they claim and more. You really need the whole system looked over closely. 2 years? A cheap ass rebuild from Hester should get you better than 2 years. Something is wrong.2 points

I'm appalled by how much government intrusion some of the folks here think is OK, as long as it has nothing to do with our guns. When we talk about gun laws we preach individual responsibility, but when we're talking about licensing for other activities, it seems no amount of government intrusion is enough.2 points

I was a good kid coming up. Most all of my friends were good kids. I firmly believe that you can take the most responsible, mature, well behaved kid and stick him behind the wheel of an automobile and he is going to do really stupid things for at least a year. It's all about testing the limits of a vehicle, just curiosity. I remember one kid I went t high school with that had been racing cars since he was big enough to sit in a go kart, he was the exception. Acting a fool in a street car meant nothing to someone who had flogged a racecar in a controlled environment. Just for fun here's a partial list of the inappropriate things that I did, and I was one of the "good" kids. -drag racing. -jumped my truck -drove a two wheel drive truck up a big steep dirt pile, it's a miracle it didn't flip. -turned construction barrels into slalom cones. -hit the construction barrels to see how far they would go. -donuts -burnouts -knew the top speed of every vehicle that I could get my hands on. These activities did come with consequences. There were crashes, thank God there were never any substantial injuries to anyone else or myself. And yes, the stupidity went up when there were more passengers in the car. BTW, I was forbidden to carry passengers. Teenagers come equipped with a certain amount of stupidity. A teen can have the ability to be a great driver, they just always have a tendency to make bad choices when they think they can get away with it. Truth is there are just as many bad drivers on the road at any age, the public's driving skills just downright suck!2 points

I like it, keeps kids from having too many friends to distract them. My daughters 16 and I told her she was not allowed to give any friends rides. Depending on the situation, I'll show up and drive her and her friends as needed. I work third shift - I know not everyone can do it. I believe friends and cell phones are the biggest dangers new drivers have from talking to my friends and people from my unit who are police officers and firmen.2 points

This happened to my wife & I a few years ago while we were in a movie theater. A guy parked his dually right against my truck mirror & there was no way of me getting my truck out. The theater manager made several announcements & the owner never came out to the lobby so they had him towed. I found out later that the truck belonged to an off duty police officer that had left his truck in their parking lot while he went out drinking with his friends. The theater manager said he showed up at around midnight to get his truck & was completely drunk. I wish I could have seen the look on his face. LOL! :rofl:2 points

I think some of the ideas behind the GDL (graduated driver's license) were good but I don't think it has helped with the young driver's safety or ability to operate any better. That falls on the teens and the parents. I somewhat think the limitation on juveniles in the car would be less distracting. But I guess you could be distracted the same with two adults yapping the same as two minors in the backseat.1 point

I would to tell her that by following the business policy, and thus the law, that now a criminal has a gun that they would have otherwise not have obtained. You don't have to be mean or confrontational, but you should explain the facts of the situation to them. Maybe you ought to share this story with your legislator as a example that the sign law does little for the safety of the public, and in this case, has had a negative effect. I used a situation like this as just one of the reasons why my church should allow carrying (to no avail).1 point

You really need look no further than our neighbor to the immediate north. I was born and raised in Kentucky. Lived there for about 24 years. Kentucky supports Constitutional Carry for openly displayed handguns. The permit in Kentucky, which generates a nice bit of revenue for the Commonwealth, is for concealment. Tennessee could easily adopt the same stance here, but likely will not anytime soon. It would be simple to make open carry legal without a permit for any resident of the State, and require a permit if you desire to conceal it.1 point

Well, the whole thing was a farce anyway since I did not end up going due to a last minute business related emergency. That said, I guess I need to clear things up just a bit, so that the assumption isn't that I'm stupid here. I did not call them and ask if I could carry a gun into the symphony hall. I called and inquired as to whether or not they have a weapons policy. For all they know, I could have been an anti-gunner making sure that they were providing a "safe" environment for me to attend the symphony. Or maybe they thought I was asking if I could carry a gun into the building. Either way, I don't care one little bit. What bothers me more is that I report my findings here on this forum, and all I am met with is the assumption that I did something stupid or wrong by asking a question. I see fear and derision from people who are supposed to be supportive of the rights that I choose to exercise and defend. I understand that the majority of you are trying to be helpful, but for the rest of you, please refrain from offering useless, fear-based advice and comments. They should have no place here. And one last thing. If we are beaten into submission to the point that we can't even ask questions for fear of the reprisal, then what's the point of fighting the madness anyway?1 point

As a heads up, the odds are high that will be the response whether they actually do have an official policy or not. A better question is whether they are posted, but not much better. Better to find out another way, and "let sleeping dogs lie". - OS1 point
