  2. If looking to stay with what you already have, I'm quite fond of the .308. Its an excellent "do it all" caliber. If you're in the market for something new, what do you intend to do with it? BTW: everybody needs a good .22LR rifle. I don't see that on your list.

  7. This is a job I did for a friend. It took a bit of imagination to pull off but it all gelled as I modified the parts to fit. The Flux MP17 frame is for a drop in FCG from the Sig P320 in this case 9mm. The Flux has the well designed spring loaded brace that literally shoots out of the collapsed position via a strong spring and self locks into a rock solid extended position. I'm not a big Tactical gizmo guy but have to say, its pretty cool since its well designed and as solid as it gets. The rail started out as a China made mid length AR narrow Key-mod hand guard. Here is the front collar anchor made from stainless heavy wall pipe. I fabed up a left side cocking handle and put it in the most amount of meat at the front. The threads have been milled to match the bore contour of the inner slide. In the rough... It is then JB weld thread locked. This shot is just the plain Flux lower with my rear rail anchor block screwed up on top in the back there.... that scruffy looking pained thing. Handle in place Rail roughed in place Done, just 3 screws to remove for removal of a rock solid rail.

  12. It amazes me how many people didn't stock up all these years when ammo has been dirt cheap. It really bothers me that anyone would complain...when gunshops and retailers were going broke and giving everything away I never saw a call to arms to help them stay in the black...why would we expect them to not make a profit now when the opportunity finally came?

  16. Well, I have began a quest to find my next furry companion and have contacted 3 different rescue centers about dogs I have seen on their web site. I have not made any commitment but I am learning that all the rescue centers I have spoke with have made it possible to adopt a human child easier than it is to adopt a dog. The place were I adopted Darby changed hands in 2019 and they have changed the entire format from what it was back then. I don't plan on giving up till I have a new friend in my home.

  20. There are a handful of companies who are putting Hesco L210 Special Threat rated plate sets out regularly and they are in stock. Trex arms and Kota tactical are 2 that I know of off hand. The special threat level plates seem to be a good balance of basic rifle round stopping power without the weight/cost of going with a full rifle plate designed to stop 30-06 and other "high powered" rounds

  21. Armor is like a gun, some is better than none, but it's not the be all end all tool. I've always been indifferent to it for civilian use (though I surely want it commercially available for anyone who wants it). Bullets just don't bounce off of those things like they would Superman...it's just to protect vital organs from a shot that would kill. If you're going into a situation where you're wearing body armor, you should hopefully have good medical support and expedient transport to a facility that can handle trauma. If you feel the need to protect vital organs, your extremities and lower body (especially if you've got a plate carrier that doesn't go below the naval) are still at risk, and without someone to deal with that trauma right away, along with a care team at an ER equivalent, you can take a turn for the worst fast. Now, for those taking the streets...they're probably thinking about protection from less than lethal rounds, which means some cheap stuff would serve the purpose.

  22. I completely disagree. The NRA is currently just as corrupt as most of the government. While we don’t have the option to withhold taxes until the government corrects itself, we do have the ability to financially starve out the NRA until they (at a minimum) oust LaPierre and some of the top brass. When you look at the NRA’s financial plummet, and the pending cases against them it becomes obvious that they are more concerned with maintaining access to their slush fund than they are about actually fighting for gun owners and protecting the 2A. If those in question actually cared then they would resign so that the flow of money would start back up, allowing the organization to regain legitimacy and get back into the fight. As to the OP’s question about the benefits, I’ve been a NRA life member for quite awhile (haven’t sent them a dime the last couple years) and I have never found their discounts particularly useful. It’s been awhile since I looked, but their rental car and moving truck discounts were usually the same or less than AAA or Military discounts. The range I go to used to require NRA membership to join, essentially to ensure its membership was doing their part to help the 2A cause, but they have since changed that to a GOA membership or one of a few other lesser known organizations that I can’t think of at the moment. I have also heard talk of trying to get away from the requirement that some ranges have of NRA certified instructors, as a way to further distance from and bleed out revenue for the organization. I haven’t heard what their alternative will be but it’s encouraging that all avenues are being looked at.

  23. My deepest condolences, Doug. A friend of mine has a sign in his man-cave that says "Be the person your dog thinks you are!" I hope you'll get another chance to prove that yet again.

  25. Yes it really is and is what I started with. My pastor is one of my shooting buddies and after burning a couple of boxes of 9mm in his carry gun, he usually ends up shooting .38's in my .357 or .40 S&W in my S&W 610. Cheap shooting is what I am all about.

  26. join NRA....they are on the front lines everyday so you can enjoy any of the shooting sports. When the other side quits trying to politically take your guns, the NRA can give it a rest as well.
