Oooh! Got it built out of all the Black Friday specials! Put together for under $600 as well! Had to tweak the mag lips on the ACS mags. The right side of the mag lips were too tall and the rim extended too far into the mag body for my setup. After filing them down, they all worked great. Looking at the Metalform mags, I don't think they would have that issue on this build. Ran a bunch of rounds through it today and all I can say is WOW! What a fun gun. Picked up a See All sight and it works great for this gun. I had used one in the past on a shotgun and liked the idea, and for this gun it was a great fit. I could do without the banner on the side, but it's a small issue. Very tame recoil, accurate, light, fun, and it's a pistol. BTW - the Sig brace was very comfortable on my arm ;) Tactical Ambush 10.5" Barrel and NiB Bolt, UTG Slim Pro 9" HG, Delware Ind. Lower, New Frontier slick side billet upper, RRA 9mm buffer and spring, Spikes mag block, Spikes buffer spacer, & Ebay FH5 points

Yes. Headed down there in May to look at property. Retireing in a few years and can not wait to flee this state. Don't worry, I will NOT be bringing any liberal views with me. I can't even stand the Republicans up here anymore. They are as bad as the liberals.2 points

Folks, here's my "primitive" hunting gear for my traditional hunts. The rifle is a .75 cal (12 ga) cut down Brown Bess Musket. It patterns number 5 shot in an awesome manner. I Squirrel and Rabbit hunt with it. I only Squirrel hunt in my Native kit. Plus I'm a Native Reenactor and I love it!!!! Dave2 points

So does anyone have the street addresses of these camps? Google Earth pics showing buildings and facilities details? Videos or photos of illegal activities? If I lived near there and suspected anything odd, I'd fly a drone over and get some video footage of the actual activities, then call the local authorities. Unless someone has actual proof of illegal activities taking place, the whole thing is just a big conspiracy theory. I have a large chunk of private land outside city limits. It's fenced and highly secured. I shoot and do other legal things at various times which many liberals (and presumably some of my nearest neighbors) might find unusual or objectionable, and I occasionally have a few friends over to do the same. I am also a certified instructor and occasionally teach friends and family. This doesn't make me a terrorist or my property a terror training camp, and I sure don't want the government coming to do a welfare check on me. Just saying there's a fine line between paranoia, suspicion, and illegal activities, so we should let the presence (or absence) of factual detailed evidence be our guide before we rally the troops.2 points

Ok, it seems that some of you read into my post a little too much and involved what you thought I should teach my son. My son is 23 months old and I didn't want to take the time to see a manager. I only have a short selective time period for him to be in that buggy so I can shop with my sanity intact. I still had to go grocery shopping!2 points

It's just human nature though. To get upset over it is silly. Most everyone exploits the resources they have available including their occupational position. I work in a used tire shop. Do you not think I tuck away the cream of the crop for my friends those I think highly of? I'd be a liar if I said I didn't stash back a set of tires that are knee deep on rubber for a fello TGO member and sell a complete stranger something a little less. My friends that trade with me do not ride on the first come first serve inventory everyone else does. I would give a haughty look of derision to anyone who says they do any different.2 points

First, I have to say I love electricity, and after 47 years I love it more now than I ever knew! I have read in these survival and preparedness sites that one should voluntarily turn off power for like two days to get accustomed to life without power. For the past two days, I was drafted by the environment due to the major ice event here in my area. Then if that was not enough the approaching sub-zero temperature was my real fear. Last night around 6pm, power was back! Many lessons learned is all that I can say. I know now that I need to cool my gun hobby, and focus on survival items. My primary focus will be short term (1-10 days without electricity)! How to prepare. Here are some points that I learned, but not all points: One can never have too many 50-100' extension cables. Two are not enough. 25' cables sound long, but are very short when needed. One can never have too many fuel jugs. If you have 5, its a great idea to have fuel in them. If you do have fuel on hand, make sure its fresh. Generators are not cougar fans, they do not like older gas. Small Honda EU1000 generator is great for tailgating, but not much more. It will run the blower for the fireplace though, and a CPAP machine. Heaters are out of the question. If you buy a new home with a great fireplace, try it on a good day first, before relying on it for the primary heat in a ice storm event. If your new home has no fireplace poker set, its okay, a tire iron or a crow bar will work. If you buy a new home, make sure you have some level of firewood inventory. There was a panic and run on wood like a run on the banks in 1929. Propane tanks, keep them full too. A similar run on propane like wood occurred. If you have well water and toliets, and no elec, get use to the nursing home smell. LED flashlights will last forever. Just need more. I am talking about large ones. Food? Never entered my mind as I was too busy. Train the wife in many basics of life. That was probably the hardest part. She never bought firewood before, thought it only came from Food City in little bundles. The firewood sellers prey on women of little knowledge of firewood. Guard against junk firewood and the age ole what is the acceptable size of a rick of wood. Many more, I will add as they come to me.1 point

All 3 are made from 1084 carbon steel 1/8" thick. They are all acid dipped and stone washed. They all have the same green G10 material for scales and carbon fiber tubes for pins. The only real difference is the shape. Please look them over and select the one you like the best. I need opinions on preference so even if you're not interested in buying one please pick the one you like the best. Fell free to offer reasons why you do or do not like the particular knife. Thanks.1 point

Turkeydad, if you'll shine a flashlight into the mag well, you'll probably find your blem. Usually the blem in PSA lowers is a minor discoloration in the finish inside the well. I've had two like that and a couple of friends had the same thing.1 point

Alright, I'm no expert on CCTV's but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once in my lifetime and I was also tasked with maintaining/upgrading/expanding some of ours at work. So here's an amateur's response! ****Wall O' Text Warning!**** How much video do you need to maintain? 72 hours (give time for retrieval if out of town) The 16 cameras with 2tb storage will probably just get you a bit more than the 3 days or so since the Q-See says it records at 15fps (live view at 30). It uses H264. Should be ok here. What are you monitoring? < 1 acre, house, adjacent 30x40 secured barn, Attached pole-shed, near-field property. Do you need remote access to the video? As far as the area you described goes, the cabling that comes with the unit likely won't be sufficient for your longer runs. The good news is, that cable isn't terribly expensive. It's RG59 siamese cable. If you're handy with terminations, you can make your own. Or you can buy some premade. Whatever works for you. I've never run the stuff outside - we convert to fiber for our exterior home-runs and convert back at the recorders (but that mess is expensive). Tthey're anywhere from 100 to 1500+ foot runs. So, no idea what you're gonna need to do for your outdoor runs cables. I'd probably bury em in conduit and mark on a map of the property where I had cable. Your call again! Do you need remote access to the video? My brother is tech geek, so probably Good luck. The home networking modifications aren't that bad, but viewing through a browser can be difficult to impossible. They claim support for IE, Firefox and Chrome and Safari - but people have complained on many a forum as well as retail sites in reviews about IE issues. If you're using anything after ie8 it's iffy. After IE9 - it's a solid nope. The mobile apps supposedly work - but I've not used them. Do you have a secure place to hide the DVR/NVR? yes Good. This is important no matter what product you go with! Camera types etc? I am sure at least 2-3 would be eventually changed. Really think through your needs here. Draw a map of the property and every major angle that needs to be watched. When we mapped our home, we found that the 16 we thought we needed could be cut to 6. This is with a house, a shop, a barn and a side lot - all total about 2 acres. Some areas we didn't care if we saw or didn't see people, others we do. Same at my workplace (where we have systems all over the place. We watch the points where we have access to items/equip/personnel, wide angles cover the areas we don't have under direct surveillance. Finally, the ultimate question: Is the Q-See system good? Answer: It's a mixed bag. Things we're almost sure of: A. It's a rebranded system - consensus is it's a Dahua. Dahua branded is arguably slightly higher quality than QSee, but barely, They're slow to update software/firmware... it's even slower for QSee to push theirs (have to rebrand/modify to match their "look"). B. HIKvision is another OEM in this range - they make for Swann and Lorex, as well as their own. Similar story as the Dahua/QSee story. (Some have said that Dahua is the OEM for HIKvision- I can't verify). Things I've learned about QSee over a couple years of lurking on some other forums/general knowledge re CCTV systems: High resolution - Don't be fooled, it is 480i. Not really that great (considering the megapixel cams avail now), but sufficient for most people. It certainly isn't bad. Durability/Lifespan: Mixed reviews. Some say it's good - but plenty complain of DVRs rebooting every 5 minutes for no reason, ghosting issues (could be poor cable shielding or shoddy electronics in the box). Camera lifespan - most common complaint about QSee cams is that the "infrared" NV mode goes out after a few months. Not the end of the world, but not great if you're relying on it. NV distance is not going to be what's claimed. Probably 1/2 that for motion/general shapes, getting a positive ID on something caught on camera, maybe 15-25 feet. Support after purchase: Good luck. 2 weeks to a month for responses for repair (RMA) and a decent wait for the replacement. Not sure how Costco Concierge works - but hopefully it's better than dealing directly with QSee. TL;DR: If it were me I'd skip the QSee unit and go with something else. But it would be highly custom and tailored to my needs. It would be more costly. And I'd be spending wayyy more storage (with an integrated backup option, mirrored raid, and maybe a NAS) ULTIMATE answer: If this is a budget issue, the option of a CCTV system is ONLY possible because of this price, and you have a real need - it's better than nothing. Cameras can be upgraded as finances allow/as they break, and the DVR can as well as time and money allows or becomes necessary. You won't go to an IP/Megapixel system easily from this setup, but you likely don't need one. Most people don't. PS: if you don't have to go wireless for the outbuildings, don't.1 point

I wouldn't hesitate to buy number 1 or number 3. I love the blade on number 3 and like the you grip number 1. So for me it's a tie between them. Curious as to the msrp on these beauties also. If you want to shoot me a pm that would be great!1 point

Initial thought, having repaired, set up, and expanded a few camera systems at work... 16 cameras are going to chew through 2tb in a hurry if you're recording full resolution at 24fps. How much video do you need to maintain? What are you monitoring? Do you need remote access to the video? Do you have a secure place to hide the DVR/NVR? Are 16 bullet cameras really the best solution, or would you rather have a range of camera types (bullet, wide angle, 360 dome, etc)?1 point

Emailed all my "representatives." Emailed BATFE bureaucracy also. I'll be honest I'll probably write actual letters too because I figure someone will have to physically put them in the trash, unopened and unread. With that at least someone in govt will have to take physical action. Even if it's the employed illegal immigrant that takes out the trash.1 point

On that basis is it okay to raid the pantries of poor widows, after all life's not fair. I'm sorry Caster, I respect you and usually agree with you, but we're going to have to agree to disagree on this matter. I see no difference in this behavior than the crap that our politicians do in Washington when we elect them to represent us and they roll on us for a dollar. All it is is corruption, it's just on a different level and ain't none of it alright.1 point

Is it shady? Yes. But your son should learn at an early age; life isn’t fair. The people it went to were customers also. But I probably wouldn’t be so nonchalant about it if I found out it went to one of those dirt bag resellers.1 point

I'm glad you started this thread, SW. My situation is similar, especially right now. I am 'only' 43 and am 5' 11" and weigh 260. Yes, I am overweight but I am also a 'big guy'. I also have recurring problems with cardiomyopathy (weak heart function) and other chronic health issues. Also, I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer and the chemo causes some neuropathy, especially cold neuropathy. In fact, sometimes my hands gets so numb and/or achy or even lock up to the point that I wonder how effectively I'd be able to use a handgun if the need arose, especially one with any, real recoil. Also, as part of the whole cancer ordeal, I had to have part of my colon removed and currently have a (hopefully reversible) colostomy. In other words, my guts are currently hacked up and I have a large (now healed) surgical scar. To me, it would not be too great a stretch to think that one good, solid punch in the gut - which wouldn't necessarily be all that serious a threat to some folks - could tear things loose in there. That would certainly constitute a risk of death or serious, bodily injury for me. Further, the effects of chemo as well as cardiomyopathy mean that I'm not going to be running all that fast or far. I would certainly attempt to extract myself from a situation to the best of my ability but I am not willing to risk dying just because some asshat thinks he has something to prove.1 point

I have thought a lot about this as well, I sometimes have to go into bad areas. As much as I have thought as to what I would do I still do not know. I do keep my head on a swivel, drive around the building once to look for trouble and act on what I see. I have called the customer when I see what I think does not look right and let them know what is going on. It is a scary world, punks or thugs (what you call them) are my fear, some being so young and the group so large there is no way to tell what might happen. My advice, look close, drive around and look for "trouble". I wont get out of the car if I see more than 2 or 3 in a group. Leave the area as fast as you can, call me a scared y cat, I dont care, I want to wake up on this side of the grass.1 point

Near as I can tell, even though I do have various physical issues, I'm in the top 25% or better health/shape wise for my age group (knock on wood). Nonetheless, I am 66.5 and simply nowhere near as lithe or strong as I was even ten years ago, let alone of course back when. Which is simply to say, there's no doubt in my mind that I'll have a reasonable fear of serious injury or death if I have to face a beating -- and can assure you I don't intend to take one. Let the chips fall where they may afterwards. - OS1 point
