Good new for AL permit holders: "This week, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) published an open letter to Alabama Federal Firearm Licensees (FFLs) notifying them that, effective immediately, they may accept a valid Alabama concealed carry permit issued on or after August 1, 2013 in lieu of conducting a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)." https://www.nraila.org/articles/20160226/alabama-nics-exemption-status-now-recognized-for-alabama-permit-holders Given the State of Tennessee's permit background check requirement it would seem that TN permit holders should be afforded the same "privilege".4 points

They are. And I assume Tennessee has criminal reckless conduct laws that can be used to prosecute people that allow kids to get guns. (But I don’t know that for sure; most states do) These are just laws people want to pass, because they can; they won’t get much (if any) opposition.3 points

Just strikes me as a move to get an anti-gun law on the books. If this passes don't be surprised when a law is introduced making it mandatory to have all guns locked up in your home, ammo in different location etc.; making home defense nearly impossible. I agree guns need to be kept out of the hands of children when they are unattended, but every kid is different, every household is different and most don't need the government telling them how to raise their kids. And I am also wary of the wording and ages included, most kids are smart and can get into a locked container, know where parents keep keys etc. I think more emphasis needs to be put on training, maybe free safety classes sponsored by gun manufacturers, dealers and LGS; kind of how some 4-wheeler dealers give free training with purchases.3 points

When I feel like I am getting ripped off my inner curmudgeon raises his ugly head. After tonight's trip to the grocery I once again am suffering from curmudgeon overflow. On the bright side, my wife will probably not hit me up to go with her again for a while. Anyway, I refer to the following as examples of how we as consumers are being ripped off: Cardboard sleeves inside toilet paper and paper towel rolls are bigger around reducing amount of sheets per roll. 1/2 Gallon of ice cream is now 1.75 or 1.5 quarts Coffee containers of any brand continue to shrink and price goes up (All containers for that matter) Five pounds of sugar is no more, now 4 pounds or less We all remember how big a Baby Ruth, or any candy bar used to be Re-configured containers with indention's as handholds or visual appeal which reduces content When was the last time you saw a 50 pound bag of dog food? These are just a few examples and what started this rant was I love Claussen Kosher dills pickles. I picked up a jar tonight and realized that the pickle spears were "floating around" in the jar with about a half inch of juice in the bottom where the spears did not even reach the bottom. They used to be packed from lid to bottom and packed so tight you had to pull the first one out with a fork and had friction between the spears to do so. It appeared that there were at least 4 to 5 spears missing from the jar. I looked at all the jars and they were all that way. I put them back. Sorry to bother you all with my rant, but my wife was tired of hearing it.2 points

So I recently got a new job that is day shift and has weekends off. I'm putting that time to good use by taking up martial arts again. These are from my first night back yesterday. We train taekwondo, Hapkido and judo. I'd also like to brag on my Dad. This weekend he was honored with his 7th degree belt. This is a red and white masters belt, as opposed to a black belt. He has been training and teaching for 30+ years and I can't think of a more deserving individual. Here are some pictures I just had to share Sent from behind the anvil2 points

If I'm playing poker, I don't tell my competitor what I'm holding before I lay them on the table. If playing football, I don't announce what play I'm going to run before I run it. I never saw the sense in open carry in an urban environment. I would much rather be underestimated than an opponent know what my defense levels are and come at me prepared to meet the threat. I also believe in the 1st amendment but after many years I have learned that just because I think it, and have a right to say it, doesn't mean that it should be said. Same applies to the 2nd Amendment which I also strongly support. You may be able to OC but it doesn't necessarily make it the smart choice in some environments. There again, if I am in a populated area it doesn't bother me to see someone OCing because if an armed assailant goes active I know I am not the primary focus.2 points

Still requires transfer through FFL via 4473. In all states. Still federal law. Look on the 4473, there's just a section where permit info is entered in lieu of NICS check. - OS2 points

How about a bill that does something useful like directing schools to teach gun safety for those under 13. I think it would be better than the current curriculum that teaches about sex, STDs, gays, and transgender.2 points

My grand daughter (12) has her own purpose built .25X.223 AR, and a 20 gauge Model 1100. She has been reloading for them and shooting them for 4 years, and is as safe a gun handler as I know. I keep loaded firearms in my home, they are not "locked" up or trigger locked (those not in the safe). She knows where they are and how to use them, and is proficient with them. Take her to the Dr. and they run a questionnaire and she admits to having access to loaded firearms...tells a buddy that her Grand Father gave her a shotgun and some lib soccer mom tells the Police...I am a firm believer in Murphy. I see no cosponsors on either House or Senate bill, and with a fiscal note, it will go behind the budget. The governor would have to fund it out of his discretionary fund (or Beth, and I doubt that she will take that step prior to '18 governor's race) it is not going anywhere. I have had my own weapons since I was 10, and so far have shot nothing accidentally, was responsible for their storage, maintenance and feeding since then. The "plain view" hook does not hold through the rest of the verbiage of the bill, we have enough laws.2 points

"And they should be severely punished" ....ya, like the child that you poured your love, hope, sweat and tears into is now dead from an accident that you are to blame AND that's not good enough. Should we continue with this nonsense hold accountable the parents that lose their children in car accidents. When they chose to purchase a cheaper car that lacked the better safety rating? "They too should be severely punished" so let's let the drug dealers walk while we fill the jails with people who unintentionally allowed harm to others by either a lack of vigilance or education instead of the other option of campaigns to bring awareness and education to the public. Let's let entropy reign2 points

After reading some of your stories, I hope my mail lady never retires. She's super, especially on package deliveries. She takes all the packages and drops them at the garage door, covers them with a bag if it's raining, etc. One time she blew my mind by dragging a 68 lb box of bullets to the garage door rather than putting a card pickup in the box. :) You better believe I'll continue to put a Christmas gift in the box during the holidays. Heck, I even get a thank you note for the gift.2 points

Do we need another law? I would think endangering the welfare of a child and many other laws would apply already. To me this is more about publicly saying "see we're doing something" Parents should be held responsible for their actions if they allow unsupervised access to firearms, but as far as I know they already can be held responsible in my ways using many existing laws. I just don't know that we need a new law to muddy the water with more interpretations...2 points

The wording concerns me. If a child causes harm using a GUN OWNED by the parent (or guardian etc), I am ok with it. Most other scenarios should fall back to a case-by-case evaluation. If a random unsupervised kid finds one somewhere not in their own home etc I have serious misgivings about blaming the gun owner. Also the age bothers me... a child over old enough to be in first grade knows better. 13 is very, very high. By 13 you have drugs, sex, violence etc from problem kids. They get ugly young these days. If some punk 12 year old takes dad's gun and shoots someone, knowing full well how to load it and where the ammo is and what he is doing, that is not the parent's fault. 12 year olds are past the "lets see whats in moms underwear drawer" stage.2 points

One minor difference between both is the safety and release lever plunger tube on the Ruger is forged into the frame whereas the Springfield is not. Also the Ruger frame is cast compared to forged as is the Springfield.I currently own a Ruger SR1911 in a 5 inch but I would not hesitate to buy another Springfield.Currently I have a couple of Kimbers and a Citadel also.Pick what you like and don't look back-they're all good.1 point

First off, you can be charged for anything. From the first responding Officer, to the investigators, to the DA; decisions are being made that impact your future. Every case has its own set circumstances, and opinions of those involved. Intent, state of mind, intent of the law, and letter of the law, and how LE got involved are all factors. If those involved feel the circumstances under which the child got the gun were because you acted recklessly; yes you can be charged. In our discussions here we are generally limited to news reports and rarely have the facts known to the responding Officers and the DA. Cops aren’t big on releasing information on cases they are investigating. “Reckless” is an element of this offense. If it’s not illegal for the child to possess the gun in your presence; it’s not reckless. It could be reckless if the gun was left in an unsafe state and discharged when the kid handled it. A lawyer (Criminal Prosecutor) would have to answer that, but my guess would be if the kid was committing a felony, and not authorized to be there; that would be a factor that would result in charges not being filed. It wouldn’t be reckless if you had no reason to believe a kid would be in your house. I believe that I have zero responsibility to secure or disable a firearm that is out of sight in my secured, locked vehicle (in this state). However if two juveniles burglarize my car and one shoots and kills the other while playing with the gun they stole; there will be those that would be calling for my head on a stick. It is. We all tend to think most parents are like us and are concerned about their kids. As a former Police Officer I can assure you many are not. It was frustrating for us because it is nearly impossible to help kids that in homes with loser parents that don’t care about them; until something tragic happens. It’s a law that has come about from kids getting guns and shooting themselves or others because of the reckless acts of gun owners around them. They are often called “terrible accidents”. It is terrible, but is rarely an accident that was not preventable had the gun owner exercised due diligence.1 point

Hmm. And who was it that was telling certain racial types to go and shoot certain racial types because certain racial types matter? All of that nonsense got laughed aside, even when it was happening. Is this a case of the same or just another nut job who fell off the rails? What's really interesting is with all of the "I'll snitch you out...because gun's" on FB and intel tracking software FB postings like that get overlooked until after the fact.1 point

The side piece works kinda like a leaf spring that holds a plunger in place. The adjustment screw has 15 positions that you can adjust through the front. Makes it real easy. Also, since the plunger doesn't come into contact with the gas, it doesn't get fouled up.1 point

I really like this gun. I purchased several guns from an estate, which included this one. It has two cylinders. Back then they etched a naval battle into the cylinders. One of them was the every day cylinder and everything was rubbed off over time. The other one is in pretty good shape. I'm rather surprised that the bore is in as good shape as it is. The holster belt would be about the right size for my thigh. The cartridge box is pretty cool. I've really enjoyed learning how to preserve and care for these old guns - it's totally different than with modern guns. There is a special soap you clean them with, a special mild abrasive you clean them further with. Rust is removed with a little piece of copper, which is better than anything modern I have seen. You don't protect them with oil, but with a special wax. Anyway, I've really enjoyed this gun.1 point

Sure, that was just a spur of the moment thing. I would suggest that you ask Rossi to replace the cracked stock with the black polymer stock. That's what I have and I think it looks better than wood, but your opinion might be different. That's what I would have done from day one.1 point

Im not sure that a plug would help, unless the backstrap portion was out of spec, which unless they did a grip reduction shouldn't be. You van buy a new frame for $100 thru Glock. You could take the tightest fitting mags and use some fine sandpaper and sand them down until they fall free. Or if you are feeling really adventureous, you can use one of the tight fitting mags and a heat gun to soften the magwell and expand it til the mags are loose, note this would be my absolute last resort, and would probably just live with tight mags before I did this. If I had the extra $100 I would most likely jist get a new frame, if that isnt an option next would be sanding mags or living with it.1 point
-
Depending on how much modification/stippling was done, the magwell may be deformed. It wouldnt take much grinding, melting of polymer to bend it slightly out of spec or to weaken the polymer to the point that the pressure from your grip in conjunction with trying to release the mag causes it to hang. My suggestion is to strip the mag release completely out, take the top end off, and try inserting mags and see if the hang up when let go, if there is nothing holding them they should fall out as soon as you move your hand, however if there is any lag time, then the magwell is out of spec.1 point
