The power grid being down for more that a couple days would be truly devastating to the country. And that's if we didn't have any rioting and everyone acted peaceful and civil. Everyone is dependent on both power and each other. Just think, how long could you survive with no more electrical power right now? Everything runs on electrical power. The transformers that power our grid are custom made to order and take 6 months or more to build. We would be severely crippled. I wholeheartedly agree that we need to harden our grid and infrastructure and have multiple redundancies built in. Nobody thought a commercial airliner would reshape the NYC skyline. Until it happened.2 points

A bigger question is whether G.R.R. Martin will live long enough to finish the series - we might be looking at the definitive version on the TV show, if he doesn't pick up the pace ...2 points

Except for a yearly sub to the NY Times for the crosswords, and political and charity donations, TGO is only place on the web I've ever contributed to. I'd likely do the lifetime thing if I were younger, but I'm hesitant to even buy green bananas any more. ;) - OS2 points

LEOSA was passed over ten years ago and pistol license reciprocity would seem to fall under commerce clause just like LEOSA. Feds use commerce clause for everything. Feds also have basically strong armed the states into accepting each others' marriage licenses, whether the states like it or not. The feds also basically forced the states to raise the drinking age to 21 and lower the drunk driving blood alcohol level down to 0.08. If MADD can lobby for those changes what is wrong with the NRA getting something to benefit us? Our country has long since past the point of having states that truly are independent of one another like when our country was founded. I hate to let you know but Tennessee isn't the most carry friendly place in the country either. Until this year, you were better off with a pistol license in California as far as restrictions than in Tennessee. You're probably still better off carrying there even if you can't carry in schools. Places that are seen as 'liberal' such as Rhode Island, Delaware, Oregon, are much better carry wise than this state. Even New York does not fine you for walking past a 'no gun' sign like Tennessee. This state has gone from an almost worthless to have permit if you wanted to follow the law to a somewhat better situation. I'd say TN used to be one of the worst in the country as far as carry restrictions until the past several years.1 point

I have said many times that a Federal Government with the power to tell some states that they must allow handgun carry simultaneously gains the ability to tell all states that they cannot allow anyone to legally carry. No, thanks. Also, again, for those who want to bring up driver's licenses think about where many of the federal emissions controls on motor vehicles originated and where the impetus for more/stricter EPA regulations usually come from. Yep, Kalifornistan. Do you really want a National Concealed Carry system with regulations and requirements that originate on the left coast? I certainly do not. This really is an issue best left to the states. Further, even if national reciprocity were in place would any of you actually dare to try and carry in New York or California? Keep in mind that, just as with operating a motor vehicle, you would be responsible for knowing and obeying all the rules and regulations for firearm carry that are in place in those states and cities - and you can bet that those states and cities would place such onerous regulations on carry that nearly anything one did would be grounds for arrest and forfeiture of the firearm. In other words, a TN permit holder might be theoretically legal to carry in New York but it would still be so troublesome and have so many potential legal pitfalls (which could impact the ability to have a carry permit, period) that it would be practically impossible. I'll pass on that. Our current system may be flawed but expecting the federal government to make something 'better' is kind of like expecting Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies to perform precision surgery - it isn't going to happen and, IMO, we should really all know better.1 point

Because sometimes legal won't keep you out of trouble in a state like IL. Or NY, or CA.1 point

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering...especially with some of the changes that have (or haven't) occurred in the TV series versus the books. I think we're at a fork in the road story wise with books and TV shows...but it's not an absurdity or anything, so like you I'm happy.1 point

"Outlaws already have a chapter in Nashville" The Outlaws have had a chapter in Nashville since at least the late 70s that I know of because back then Where I lived in Donelson in a nice neighborhood 5 houses down from my home was a house rented by the Outlaws and there was about 8 or 10 members and their women that would come and go from the house every day. They were very respectful when coming down the street from either direction and always drove slow cause they knew their were children living in most homes on the street. Never threw any wild parties but they did have cook outs and a lot of other members showed up for it and they all also respected the speed and noise while coming and going. They lived there for about 2 or 3 years and then all at once they were gone. Rental truck showed up on a Saturday and they were gone. In the years they lived there no one in the community ever had an issue with them. I had one of them that hung around an Exxon Station I worked at name John Tomberland and he was a straight up dude that was curious in auto repair and wanted to see if I would teach him some stuff and my one condition was he had to remove his colors while he was at the business and he didn't argue at all, Hung them in the stock room while he was there. If we got real busy on the he would walk out and help pump gas and wash windshields so my boss began giving him a few bucks and some gas for his bike. He left when the pack left but did stop by and say good bye to us and boss filled his bike tank for him for free.1 point

Just stick your chamfer tool in the primer pocket and give er a twist. It isn't that much trouble, and only has to be done once per casing. Most military brass is good stuff.1 point

Went to work at 16 for a local cleaning service at the Millers on Henley St, here in Knoxville. Made Foreman of the crew after three months. Later transfered to another part of the company, cleaning schools, where I was also a Foreman. Did that for several years, into college, until I went off to Basic Training with the U.S. Army Reserves. After getting my MOS as a Construction Surveyor, I went to work for a Civil Engineering firm as a surveyor. Later I went into the office as a Draftsman, then later back out into the field as a Survey Party Chief. Then back into the office where I learned CAD. I've been a Civil Designer for several firms, over a period of 27 years. But 5 years ago I changed fields and moved into Substation and Switchyard Electrical Design. I'm now a Senior Physical Designer. While in the Army Reserve, I worked my way up to Construction Inspector, until I left that unit after Desert Storm. After that I went into a Marksmanship training unit. I shot competitively for the ARCOM and also trained marksmanship to units heading to Bosnia. But the thing I've been most proud of is being married to a wonderful woman for 28 years and raising 3 awesome kids! Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk1 point

Not sure how I missed this thread... I will echo Daves comments above about those that serve and have served. I have several friends that are in LE and the Military I am humbled by your commitment. I'm a transplant from far Northern NY, I lived in the other part of NY (Adirondack Mtns) where it's more like TN than the "City". As soon as the kids were out of the house and the wife could retire we were gone... I'm a regional manager (Eastern US) selling industrial valve products. I got into the business by mistake 25 years ago and worked my way through several jobs and companies to get to this point. I also held an FFL 01 and had my own gunsmithing shop for nearly 20 years, also owned a one hour photo shop before digital cameras. Sold that and answered the ad for a valve sales guy and here I am... I'm self taught in many things and have had very good fortune to work with some great people that mentored me over the years. It's great to be part of thevery TGO community. I've met a few others here and look forward to meeting more of you.1 point

Just because it starts there, doesn't mean it ends there. Think about the changes made to your TNDL in the last few years to bring it in line with federal RealID standards.1 point

Rights are going to be taken away at some level, of that you can be assured. It's best they start locally as the Constitution intended so at least there are several layers of redress available via state and federal court systems. Once it's a federal issue then there is less chance of success, IHMO. Philosophy aside, I truly believe the feds getting involved with handgun carry permitting will not end well. Now I have no idea what the details of the proposed law are but I could easily see it eventually leading to national standards for permits. Once they get done haggling over the details of that, I have a feeling there will be some pretty strict standards to meet to apply and keep a permit, standards that will change constantly as no-gun states get a bigger say in how free states see fit to exercise their rights.1 point

Not surprised and am actually kind of happy about it. National Reciprocity sounds good in theory but in fact 1) takes away the right of States, and 2) would lead to federal control of licensing and permitting. Does anyone seriously want that?1 point

I keep a couple feeders on the front porch and we have around a dozen. My cat caught one a couple weeks ago and I knocked the cat away and grabbed it up. I took it to the front yard and tried to release it since it wasn't bleeding and appeared uninjured. It would fly about two inches up from my hand and then land again. It did this several times and just couldn't get any higher. I sat it down on a bush and noticed something caught in it's wing. I picked it up again and began pulling at the thing on it's wing. It turned out to be a very large and long strand of spider webbing that was entwined all around it's whole body. I gently got it all off and then opened my hand. It sat there for about a minute and just looked at me (almost like it was thanking me).....then it flew off like nothing had happened. My husband now calls me the hummingbird whisperer. :)1 point

Here near the urb I gave up on the hummers years ago, as didn't get enough to make it worth the hassle, but I get more birds overall to the seed, suet, and thistle feeders I have than I did when I lived in the boonies. Sometimes I'll be out there filling them up and it's like the impending doom of a scene from Hitchcock's The Birds, so many are hanging out, waiting to swoop in. - OS1 point
