  1. Up for sale is a Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in 30 WCF (30-30) made in 1911. It is close to, but not all completely original. This one was pretty rough when I started. When I work on an old rifle, I don’t want to make it “new”, just clean and functional. It’s not a collector’s piece, but it is now a really nice historic old shooter. The rifle has been completely disassembled, cleaned and put back together. There was little (if any) original bluing left on the metal. I did not try to make the metal look new, but I cleaned it up and gave it a vintage look with cold bluing. The original gum-wood stock was in pretty rough shape and had, at some point in the rifle’s 113-year life, been refinished and sanded a bit too much. The original gum-wood forend was also sanded and bit too much and is split at the front. I cleaned them up as best I could, but they were still just to ugly. I replaced them with a reproduction set from Gunville.com in American Black Walnut. After hand fitting the new furniture, it was finished with a hand rubbed oil finish. The original stock and forend will be included. The saddle ring is also not original to the rifle but I believe it is an old piece. It also now has the correct v-notched ladder rear carbine sight. $950, OBO. Located in Nashville. For sale/trade to persons who can legally own a firearm. Trade I’m interested in would be a Winchester 1873 in 32-20 I can send more (and higher resolution) photos (including some before photos) upon request.

  5. Smart folks are working on this. You can look at this thread alone and see that they’ve already caused gun owners to classify themselves as being in “different categories”. Created animosity between gun-owners.. right here. Right here - I see the negative labeling of guys who are trading at gun shows. For me personally.. if those old retired guys at the shows make a few xtra bucks trading guns, they’re far less of a risk on a quickly diminishing society, than the anti-Israel mob - the blm looting and burning mobs - the democratic politicians destroying cities by taking on ILLEGALS by the 1000’s - the pro-baby-murder crowd - the folks who invite men into women’s restrooms alongside your wife or daughter - and on, and on, and on, and on …. there’s not even any reasonable comparison. As most of us know, this ruling only serves to give a corrupt government a better chance at knowing what guns every individual owns, moving forward. So.. a current corrupt government who has been instrumental in handing over millions of dollars worth of guns and military equipment to TERRORISTS overseas, is practicing communism in our country. And.. “we” as gun owners are immediately breaking off into groups to single out what the “other group” is doing wrong. As noted above, they have some smart folks working on how to cause us to support their bs cause, without us “knowing” we are supporting their bs cause.

  10. A missionary told us that he got ambushed on the way to a small village somewhere in Latin America many years ago. The bullet went through his coat, leaving a hole front and back, but it passed completely through his body with nary a scratch. That really got the native tongues wagging about Jesus.

  11. Rehab went well. No heart problems developed during exercise programs. They have you doing 20 minutes now per set rather than the 15 min of old. Little harder. They said my heart developed no problems with the exertion. Things will get harder from here on. They increase the speed and hardness levels, on the other machines, the longer you are in the program. So good news today. Just may be able to get some of the lost effectiveness of my heart function back over time. Will see. Edited to add. You 60 Y O just look at what you are headed for. The room was full (25ish) of old codgers like me at 76. Both men and women. They run classes all day long. I was 11;00 today but want 9:30 as soon as they can get room for me in the early class.

  13. Start my Cardiac Rehab at 11:00 on Monday. Had some heart palpitations when they hooked me to the heart monitor Thursday. Just did a 6 minute walk at normal speed. The Nurse said the top of my heart muscle was firing a little sooner than the bottom. Hope things go well for my first day. Will start with 15 min fast walking on a treadmill, and then 15 minutes on a Life step machine which you sit on and use both legs and arms to operate. Will finish with 15 minutes of weightlifting. Gets harder the longer one goes. Praying all goes well. This should get my heart pumping a little better over time. At 35% now and hoping for 55 to 65% by the end of 12 weeks. That is the goal and will be sufficient to get me back into a better situation should we be successful. Gettin old is not for sissies. Edited to add content.

  15. This one hurts to post, but if I'm honest with myself, I've sat & stared at it for 2 years now. It's just too damn pretty for me to hunt with & I know I'm going to spend more time worrying about it getting scratched than I actually would hunting. I built this up from parts. The action is a Sears model 52, which is the Sears specific brand Winchester Model 70. I had the entire action blueprinted & rebarreled to 6.5x55 Swede by E.R. Shaw. The barrel is 21", 5R rifled with a 1:8 twist. The profile was turned to match the factory M70 barrel which is basically a medium/light Sporter. The barreled action was then mirror polished & sent to a specialist refinisher in Wyoming for bluing. Along with that, the hinged bottom metal, bolt shroud, trigger, grip cap, scope mounts, sling swivels & all screws & fasteners were sent for color case hardening. While all the metal was away for finishing, I found an unfinished, Exhibition grade walnut stock & set about hand fitting & finishing. I hand sanded everything to 800 grit & applied 24 coats of Alkanet oil, wet sanding the first 12. Once the color I wanted was achieved I applied 32 very fine coats of polymerized Tung oil (over a period of about 4 months) The stock was then sent to Ahlmans for hand cut checkering in a 22tpi Winchester point pattern. Once finished, the checkering was then very lightly oiled. Once it was all back here & together, I added a Leupold FX-3 6x42 scope. I've taken it to range 1 time to zero & work out a load & that's literally it. I don't think I've fired 40 shots since I finished it. The whole project was a labor of love, because I wanted an Heirloom Quality gun, only to find out that I'm far better served with working guns. I don't know how many hours went into the build, but I'm pretty sure I clocked over 100 just in the stock. Since then, it's literally sat in the cabinet slathered in anti-rust. I've occasionally taken it out to look at & fondle. It's a crying shame to just have it sitting & it needs to go to someone who'll actually use & appreciate it for what it is, rather than just being a decoration. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pricing this at slightly less than I have in it, but not much & the price is NOT negotiable. I paid nearly half the cost just for the stock alone. $2000 will buy it & if it doesn't sell for that, it can stay in the cabinet. I'm only selling her now to fund a used Harley purchase (unless someone wants to part trade me for a ratty big twin.....) Link to photo album....... https://imgur.com/gallery/LrNFN1l

  24. I was really expecting the pastors gun to be the one that jammed. My mind went the guy having a jam while protecting his church. Kinda weird. I've have had multiple dreams of catastrophic gun failure in a crisis situation. Stuff like the barrel falls out. The guy that grabbed him has some restraint

  25. It is an original ladder sight of the correct age (not cheap ). Pre 1914 (I believe that is the correct year) the ladder sight was v-notch. 1914 and later, the ladder site had a small square notch. The original saddle ring location was filled with a threaded blank. Might even have been the original threads, broken off the original saddle ring. I did have to get the correct tap (1/4x30) and chase the threads. At some point, someone did attach some side mounted sight or something. I inquired with Bert Hartman (Winchester 94 historian) if he knew what might have been added there. He did not recognize the hole pattern. I was able to get the correct thread pitch plugs for the tapped holes.

  35. Yes, that's *mainly* who they're targeting, but it's the ATF, so if they can write a regulation that's wide enough to catch up more people in addition to the ones who are actually targeted, that's fine with them -- it improves their arrest stats, helps support the case that it was a widespread problem, and (like all poorly explained gun restrictions) has a chilling effect on honest gun owners who might decide to spend their money on something else instead of risking having their dogs and family members shot in a paramilitary raid.

  36. I'm concerned about this. I just turned 70 and am thinking it may be time to thin the herd. I have a large collection. My sons will keep some for themselves, but no way they'll want them all. I have been seriously thinking about selling many of them off. First to save them the time and trouble after I'm gone. Secondly, they could use the money much more than the guns. I've even considered getting a table or two at a gun show to expedite the process. According to this, I'm screwed. And that brings up another question, what about heirs who are needing to sell off an inherited collection? What will they do?

  38. Well, since communists deal in instilling fear, I believe everyday people will cease setting up at gun shows. Attendance will be down & many promotors will go out of business. I believe many will drop prices & liquidate their collections. I believe there will be arrests both at homes & gun shows to bolster their agenda, make examples. These tactics have been used in various states, especially the blue states. I hope I'm wrong & these unconstitutional "laws" are overturned. Some here have labeled President Trump a dictator, yeah right, there's a dictator & his minions in office now seeing to the destruction of our country.

  39. I don’t personally go to gun shows. It’s been at least 12-15 years since I have been. Now from what I hear, it’s mostly guys who are charging moon bucks for dirt road stuff, or ATF agents. Gun Shows in general have lost their “luster” or appeal for me. The issue I have with the latest infringement is the wide variable interpretation of “earning a profit”. I’ve had friends with ads on other sites that have received emails from ATF explaining their definition change. Basically a threatening email. This will be the new normal. It will only get worse with another FJB term. Still worse but at a slower rate if Trump gets another term. I for one am sick of old rich people making decisions that affect normal working people.
