  3. I was in Scottsdale, AZ the other day.  I saw a bumper sticker on a parked car that read: " I miss Chicago" .   So I broke the window, stole the radio, shot out two of the tires, added an Obama bumper sticker and left a note that read, "Hope this helps.”

  4. I've already installed a D model hammer spring, performed a trigger & action job, & installed an Elite II skeleton hammer & after a long wait, I finally picked up a SGS style compensator for my Beretta 92G Brigadier Elite. It adds a little weight up front & has three upward firing ports. The Brigs already have a gentle recoil so I can't wait to try it out with the new compensator attatched. I'll try to post better quality photos when I take it to the range.

  6. They tell everyone 3-4 weeks but the ~10 people I have recommended them to got them in under 2 weeks and some inside of a week.   It is a lot better for business for your customers to receive their item early than late. People will raise holy hell if their product is a day or two late so it is better to over estimate and have a happy customer than under estimate and have a pissed off one.

  8. You're running a heat pump. "Emergency heat" is a backup heat source - generally electric for when the ambient temperature outside is too cold for the heat pump to operate effectively. As an old physics professor of mine used to say, "when I see that light come on, I know I'm going to be eating peanut butter sandwiches..."

  10. Just went by Dicks. All handgun ammo is 20% off yet they are still at least 20% higher than other vendors. Their rifles and shotguns are on sale. The only thing that peaked my interest was a Mossberg MVP for $409.

  11. This was the hardest stock project I have done. I thought I had it before but when looking at it found some issues. Started out as an inletted blank that was roughed out. Stripped the finish off 3 times after seeing more issues, finally am calling it quits on this one.

  12. Sorry you pulled the trigger.    You should shoot both before you buy. I've had both and never liked the recoil of the Rugers. Check that....maybe I should say Blackhawk and  I got rid of one years ago.   I've shot the Redhawk and they don't have the trigger the S&W's have.    I passed on a Blackhawk .44 mag a few months ago. He wanted $250 for it. Had it been a Smith.....

  15. I KNOW the Redhawk can take a beating. You can feed it loads that would kill a Mod 29. I do not, however, recommend doing that.

  17. Yep, just mention carrying a .44mag as a self defense gun amd most people think you're crazy. Call me crazy but I want a 3" 629 to carry. I had never shot a .44mag buy always liked guns with authority. Shot a buddies Blackhawk .44 amd I love it.

  18. Its hereeeeee! Received a notice yesterday it shipped 2nd day, and the tracking number said it would be here Monday. Oh well! Today at lunch, just checked the delivery number again, and WOW, it was out for delivery to my LGS. After work, swung by, and yep it was there. Paid the transfer and TICS, and yep I am now a proud member of the 1911 club, I plan to shoot it next week. Less than 96 hours after I pressed enter on the computer and now its in my possession. Now to fill out the rebate papers for the $100 and I will then have ~$634 OTD price. That was a good deal, I think. Here are some pics. 29.   It's a bit of a niche market to try to appeal. They're neat to look at and play with but let's be honest, how many people flock to the stores in search of one? Not many to say the least.

  30. My heat pump has "emergency heat" on it, but I've yet to see it come on. I assume it is to keep you from freezing until the repairman gets there?

  31. If the ammo feeds reliably and groups well, I'd not give it a second thought. I expect the variance is a bullet issue and not a die/press issue.

  32.   It's actually called "auxillary heat" when the T-stat can't be satisfied by the heat pump alone, that Aux heat light comes on the T-stat, heat pump and electric heat. The emergency heat setting is only electric heat, no compressor. If there's a problem with the heat pump itself you can still have heat provided the problem isn't the blower moter, or a few other things. Some units may have an outside sensor that will not allow auxillary heat untill the outside drops to a certain temature but not all, the T-stat usually decides if auxillary heat is needed.

  33. When someone buys from a wholeseller or other supplier and over charges, I ignore it. When someone buys from the same store shelve that I could have bought from and then over charges b/c it was the last available, it pisses me off.   they're trash.  jmho

  35. Saw this comment on the Walmart 20% off guns deal.  If anyone is considering getting a gun at Walmart on Black Friday or that weekend, I would certainly recommend this.   Go to your Walmart TODAY and put the firearm you want on layaway with 10% down. Pay off your Walmart firearm in full on 28,29 or 30th Nov and the final sale will reflect the lower 20% discount Black Friday Price. This way you can reserve any firearm they have in stock and they will hold it for you. No need to fight the crowd on Black Friday.

  36. When you say they are off by several thousandths, how many are we talking?  I suspect there are a couple of things that could be going on.  One, Lee dies use that rubber o-ring under the nut when you tighten down the die.  Is it getting slightly loose some how. You may try adding a hornady locking ring to your die and trying that.   Second issue which I suspect could be more likely is a difference in the bullets themselves.  Are they seconds or anything like that?  Try setting the bullet depth using a comparitor set similar to this http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PD5VLA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.  It measures off of the ogive, therefore when you set your die, it is set based on where the die actually touches the bullet.     Measuring OAL to the tip of the bullet isn't as accurate due to small variances in the bullets themselves.  Using this method, your OAL can actually be different, but the fit of each bullet in the chamber will be the same, therefore improving accuracy because it keeps the ogive the same distance from the rifling in the chamber when seated.

  41. I personally have no problems risking my life on any of the weapons I own whether its my Sprinfield, Kimber Classic, or Glock (all lower end for the brand).  Heck, I had to risk it on equipment supplied by the lowest bidder for 21 years, and luckily it all went bang when it needed to.  To me it really is a matter of choice on what you want to spend and then its a matter of getting one that does not turn out to be a lemon.  I have had identical guns shoot much differently so its not even a brand issue.  Though I personally would not buy a hi-point, I have fired them, they go bang and hit a torso at engagement range; just don't like the looks, but heck I don't like the Glock 19 either.  But I am a cheap bastard, I would never pay over 1K for a gun when a 400 to 600 one will do the same thing, which goes for scopes, cars, trucks and any other thing that gets over priced because of the brand label on it.

  44. I make sure my gun is clear. Then I stand in front of the television with my gun holstered. I mentally tell myself "blue" or some other color. The next person that comes on screen wearing that color I draw, take aim and fire. I rack, holster and do another color.

  45. I'm not your typical student, but I do still attend classes taught by other instructors regularly so I might have some insight that will help.    Get prepared for class a few days in advance. No one wants to be looking for their mag pouches the morning of the class. Get all your stuff together so that is one less thing to worry with. Pack all your gear and make a checklist. And use the checklist. You don't want to be "the guy who gets to class with no spare mags because they are on the bedside table where he left them" guy.    WEAR A BELT. That should go without saying but I've actually had a person show up to a pistol class where we were they knew we'd be drawing from a holster show up with no belt......and wondered why their paddle holster kept coming out of their pants with the gun when they drew it....    Take a spare gun and more ammo than you think you'll need. This is especially so if you are running an "oddball" caliber that no one else in class is likely to have. If you are running 357sig, 45gap, 9mm Makarov, 9x21, 9x23 or 5.7x28 no one else is gonna have ammo for your gun so bring extra.    Take a notepad and TAKE NOTES. Many times there will be so much info you simply will not remember it all later and most classes do not hand out workbooks or an outline or "take notes for you". So a pen and notepad is a wise investment.    Make sure you have weather appropriate clothing. Being "environmentally miserable " is not a good learning environment. And don't wear flip flops...again, should go without saying but you'd be surprised.    If the class is going to be physical ( a lot of getting up and down or running) and that is not something you are used to then it is a good idea to do something to get in batter shape before the week of class. At a minimum doing some stretching and walking a mile or two each day several months in advance will help. The less strain it is to do the drills the better experience it will be. But there are very few classes you will ever attend that you need to be in pro athlete condition. If you have questions about a class and whether you are in good enough shape to participate you should always ask the instructor in advance.    Bring plenty of H2O...and DRINK IT. Staying hydrated is important. But most people do not drink enough to stay optimally hydrated. In fact, most people walk around in a state of near dehydration in everyday life. You do not want to be "the guy who passed out from dehydration" in class. If you wait until you are thirsty then you are not drinking enough.    Reading.....if you have 20 years I can recommend some books......Just kidding. If the instructor has written a book it is a good idea to be familiar with it. If nothing else I would recommend Principles of Personal Defense by Jeff Cooper. It is a short book on mindset that everyone should read.    Not knowing anything about your present skill level or what specific class you are looking to take, some general advice would be do dry fire regularly in the weeks leading up to class. Work on drawstroke, mag changes, malfunction clearance.....all the stuff you should be working on regularly in dry fire...   And most importantly keep an open mind. Not everyone teaches everything the exact same way. There is nothing wrong with that but a good instructor should be able to tell you EXACTLY WHY they teach something a particular way if it is substantially different than what others do. If they say "just because" then that should be a huge red flag.    How to pick an instructor? Reputation goes a long way. Read reviews of the instructor and ideally talk to people who have been to their classes. Keep in mind also that not all personalities mesh. I have talked to people that were put off by a particular instructor who I happen to think is excellent ...if a bit gruff. Those people and that particular instructor were just not a good mix of personalities. But on a personal level I am more concerned with the knowledge an instructor can help me discover than whether the instructor will pacify my "inner child" or make me "feel better  about myself."     Someone can be a "nice guy" and not be a knowledgeable instructor and someone can be a "been there done that" guy and be a bad communicator and poor teacher. There is more to teaching than being able to do something and more to running an adult learning environment than showing up and letting the students bask in your past glory (unless that is specifically why people come to your class) .... so do your homework in advance and look for an instructor that is good at teaching what YOU are looking to learn. A navy SEAL may be a bitchin' cool guy but odds are he does not do much concealed carry pistol work. And a guy who spends 99% of his time teaching NRA basic classes is not going to be the first guy on the list to teach combatives and close quarters shooting.

  46. Hiding from the government makes no sense. If you want an AR lower that is not tied to you just go to any show and buy one from one of the guys standing outside. No one, especially the government, is the wiser to you buying the lower. There are tons on the various websites as well.   With the way the ATF is raiding those selling 80% lowers for customer lists I would be more afraid of buying an 80% lower than a serialized lower from someone face to face.
