I think you REALLY missed the point of his post. What I got from it is it's a tiring, grueling, thankless task where you are up against overwhelming odds all the time. Maybe you missed the part where he said he does this using time-off from work when his family would rather they be taking vacations. Honestly, very rarely do I read things on TGO that make me wish we were still in an age where we could remove a glove, slap another man across the face with it, and demand that an apology be issued for their transgression. You unlocked that achievement with that post.4 points

Nobody is paying me anything, for doing anything, my labors are 100% volunteer. I took another day's vacation, spent my gas money to drive to Nashville, and had 11 different meetings with legislators about the coming session just yesterday. Calling me a lobbyist is in fact an insult, they are paid hacks. Talked to two yesterday who privately told me they were personally against the issue they were selling, at least I am not guilty of that. By the way, I did not meet anyone else in the halls pushing firearms issues, had it all by my lonesome, again. TGO David had it correct, I was speaking in general to all who fuss about what the legislature or the NRA or the TFA or the Muffin Club should be doing, yet sit on their dead hinneys and type instead of doing something about it. When I mean to insult an individual, there is no mistaking it, it will be apparent to all who witness it, in print or in person. If a gentle remonstration about the actual actions that bear fruit for a cause are "insulting" to some, maybe the vicious halls of LP are not their best venue. If you are actually making headway on an issue, your very job may in fact be threatened. Oppositional research is employed against those who dare take issues to the various committees or Leadership, which by the way is where these battles are waged. It has to be lived to be appreciated. I do it for my grandchildren, there is not enough money to pay for the heartache and trouble that results, you win seldom, but the cost is monumental.3 points

Look, what I am seeing here is failure to comprehend what was written so let's take this from another angle: SHOW ME WHERE HE INSULTED YOU. I've read it several times and nowhere in there does he make a statement that seems like it was designed to insult or offend you. I see a point where he makes the statement "If you do not have at least five meetings scheduled with legislators at LP tomorrow, you are talking, not doing." but in this case the word YOU seems to be used in the first-person. That is the only area what I see what what he said might be misconstrued, and even that shouldn't trip up anyone who has ever written a first-person narrative before. So back to my last challenge, show me where he insulted you in his post. I maintain that you completely misunderstood the point of his post the same way you went straight to a literal interpretation of my statement about being slapped with a glove. While you're doing that, I can show you where what YOU (not used in the first-person, mind you) absolutely intended to offend him with your response. Hell, it offended me for him.3 points

Stopped in Cleveland at Dunham's Saturday, wife walked up to the counter and asked if I seen any I wanted. And a few minutes later she asked again, then after I was walking away she asked if I was sure I didn't see any. I can count at least six guns I've purchased due to saying, hey look at that and getting the response to buy it if I wanted it. I mentioned to her about seeing a Mosin at Buds that was nice but I already had one and she told me I should have bought it. Please help me, my wife is feeding my addiction lol!2 points

Well to me it feels like a tank. Finally, I entered the world of the 1911. Today was a day of a few firsts for me. A new caliber .45. Got to try out my alien gear holster for my G26 and my extended mag as well. I purchased a Rock island 1911-A1 here are a few pics. Another first for me, shooting a gun straight out of the box. I only sent 50 down range. My initial impressions for me are great. I really like the way this feels. My first non polymer pistol. I can live with the grips for now. My main fault ( which could be me) is that I did have a hard time picking up the front sight. Not a deal breaker. I am looking forward to breaking this gun in. One last picture. My baby glock. Shoots like a dream, just like its daddy the 17. The extended mag really makes a difference. Also in the pic is the alien gear leather owb. I have a iwb as well, but I felt like going owb today. I have this same set up for my 17. Now, all I need is a holster and some mags for the 1911. Maybe some grips on down the line. However, the front sight is my top priority.2 points

Well first I must thank Grand Torino, and everyone else who has posted in the knives and bladed tools section, thanks for all the motivation and inspiration! It basically started when my Ginormous knife arrived and I was thinking you know I can do this... Well I got to say I got a lot to learn, but I grabbed an old Nicholson file that I had in my workshop, grab the propane torch and started annealing, and broken that harbor freight 1 x 30" grinder!! I started yesterday afternoon and this is what I've come up with about 24 hours later. I made a jig and started my grind. I made sure to leave some of the final marks on the ninth so we still look cool and the Nicholson name. I didn't really draw anything out I just kind I had an idea in my head. My drillpress arrives tomorrow and I've got scales there epoxying right now, so next will be attaching the scales and then massaging them into shape! What are y'all think? I'm certainly not going to give up my day job but this is really addicting I can tell already!!! Jim PS I heat treated the knife on the knife with a propane torch "well actually two at one time" Quinched in motor oil . I was impatient but hell already tested with a file and is good and hard!2 points

It's very unAmerican not to own a 1911. Congratulations on joining the Society of 1911 Owners. :)2 points

I never said store owners can't request that I not bring a gun into their place of business. Removing posting laws wouldn't prevent shopkeepers from banning guns. It would remove the state-enforced criminal punishment for violating that private policy. It would make a "no guns" policy have the same force of law as a "no unattended children" policy. None at all, but still within the rights of the shopkeeper to have that policy and to enforce it through asking the offending person(s) to leave and filing trespassing charges if they refuse.2 points

We need to get behind this bill and also the house companion bill when it is introduced. This bill will legalize handgun carry permit holders carrying handguns in all parks. It seems to be a good bill and provides a clean exception for handgun carry permits. Hopefully a house bill will be introduced soon. This bill should be a big priority for us to get passed.1 point

I'm crying foul at the clickbait. I wanted to see something more along the lines of this: That said, grats on the pistol! 1911's are fun!1 point

Just gave them a heads up today. 7:00 PM tomorrow is good. Told them the name of the group is Tennessee Gun Owners forum, but gave my name as well (Ted Stevens). See y'all then.1 point

I really like the holster. I ordered my owb with the horse leather. My iwb is the neoprene style. The shells are interchangeable, which makes swapping them easy.1 point

He would be better off using a reinforced shipping container with proper ventilation. At 21, he has no idea of the liability attached to his makeshift sand pile "range".1 point

Good grief! I am still having trouble deciding if I can safely put up a three sided berm on my property out in the county on 3 acres. This guy has a pile of sand and a couple of pallets in a back yard with neighbors on the other side i'm sure. How does he think that's safe?1 point

Good example of why we have to have laws; some people are too stupid to do what’s right. I guess they will have to do like most other cities and outlaw it. He looks like a kid.1 point

Glock 26 for simplicity of operation, light weight, capacity, lots of holsters and mags available. 938 if you want a cool-looking EDC. Personally, appearance is low in my list for something that stays out of sight the vast majority of the time.1 point

Yep. I suppose that a store could post a sign saying, "NO UMBRELLAS ALLOWED" and would be within their rights to ask you to leave or take your umbrella back to your vehicle if you enter their place of business carrying an umbrella. The only legal trouble you would have would be if you refused to leave after being asked to do so. You would not have violated a law, would not have to pay a fine and possibly lose your ability to legally carry an umbrella for a certain period of time just because of some stupid sign on their front door. There is no reason a legally carried firearm should be treated any differently. I, too, would like to see these signs lose the weight of law and, instead, simply reflect store policy for which one could be asked to leave or face trespassing charges. There is no reason that people who are legally carrying a firearm should be singled out for extra punishment.1 point

My wife is an optometrist and has set me up with some prescription sunglasses. I didn't realize I had a problem till she "practiced" on me for her board exams. I have astigmatism as well and, with glasses, reticles are much more clear. I'm not an eotech fan, but my aimpoint was definitely hazy without glasses. You may also try green reticles. My wife suggested this and presented the science behind why it may be better for me. I don't remember the reasons why it's better, but I have found that trijicon green reticles are amazing. I have an ACOG with green horshoe reticle and I can actually use it without glasses and it's still fairly precise. So, in summary: (1) Definitely check with another doc to get some prescription lenses/contacts. (2) Give the trijicon green reticles a try.1 point

As much as I want to say the 938 I'm not, it'd be the G-26 even though I have the same issues with it as hipower. The darn thing's great to shoot but awkward to carry. In fact the G-19, which conceals very well and is equally as thick, is more comfortable in carry IMHO.1 point

Back during the Obama panic buying frenzy, THIS is what myself and several others here on TGO tried to warn everyone about. It's simple economics. A market that spikes fast, tanks fast. The market exploded like a hydrogen bomb, now......deals abound. Especially to the patient and diligent. Awesome score! Good for you.1 point

Don't know anything about this one, but it has ok reviews and isn't super expensive. I think the issue you will have is with the shorter barrel, muzzle blast without the shroud is going to be very loud and concussive. I am not a fan of breaks in general. I would probably go for some type of rest that helps with the recoil before a break if all I wanted it for was to help recoil while bench shooting long ranges. http://www.amazon.com/Kineti-Tech-Muzzle-Redirect-threaded-Sleeve/dp/B00JTI6L1G/ref=pd_sim_sg_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=13HGR21G6QF31F66K28G1 point

I know a great many gun owners that do not have carry permits because they don't want to be on a list of gun owners. Many of them bought their guns long before the back ground checks began and don't feel it's any of the governments business if they own guns. I think that falls true in most cases for a large amount of the population across the nation...............jmho1 point
