Several months ago I began forming a relationship to become a dealer for Southetn Grind knives, http://southerngrind.com/ I talked them into sending me a knife to sample to see if they were up to my standards. I recently found out that all the profits from Zac Browns knife company go to a wonderful camp for disabled children called Camp Southern Ground This my friends is what I call a first class company, their knives are all built in Georgia and I can now tell you after carrying my Bad Monkey for the last day, they are definitely up to my standards. My knife came to me sharp, extremely sharp but since I have my system I could not resist to make it better i am thinking of doing a Badass Blades model with them2 points

Stick an AR, a backpack of MRE's and water plus some spare clothes and you've got a pretty nice all terrain set up there.2 points

I'm happy that he's happy, right up to the point where I will have to pay for him to live when he gets too old to traipse around the world and he has no SS, savings, or 401k to even try to live on.2 points

Hard to get a sense of how fast they're going, looks like maybe 40 or so. It's obvious the bikes are loafing along, bored enough to pull over and wait for the traffic to clear, I've gone faster than 40 downhill on a bicycle and have been held up by cars poking along. After riding all the way up that hill, I'd darn sure want to have some fun on the way down.1 point

I went to a private field in Niota. We got there at 3, didn't see many birds until around 5, then they came from everywhere. I think there were about 20 hunters and only one didn't limit.1 point

Thanks Jim, may have to take you up on that! Thanks BigK, so the reflect mounts on-top of the Burris scope-mount?1 point

check for local tourneys, most are catch and release, but they might have some leftovers that might help. GL1 point

It doesn't look like you have a front sight mount, so maybe the BUIS aren't an option. If I were building one with your optics budget I'd buy a scope, a mount ,and a red dot. You can get fairly decent options for all 3 on your budget. You'e in luck on the mount, because this wekend you can score a hard to beat Burris PEPR mount on Primary Arms for $60. I'd jump on that before they sell out, because it'll be good for any scope you choose that has a one-inch tube. Plus, the red dot can mount directly on the scope mount. The rest of my money would go on a totally decent Bushnell AR Optics scope for under $123 and a Truglo Tru-Brite. Neither are the best, but both are darn good for the money. Plus, they'll get you by until you can get something better, that is IF you don't wind up liking both like I did.1 point

see all the gear the motorcyclists are wearing? well, the bicyclist is going faster and he's wearing yoga pants and a thin shirt. dress for the slide, not for the ride...just sayin'1 point

Saw that. Have had no problems with mine. Doesn't even get warm when charging. I don't use the $3 chargers either. I will keep the one I have and wait until they replace it down the road. This just appears that Samsung is stepping up early and taking control of the situation which is a problem caused from off brand cheap chargers which are notorious for issues. Kudos to them for going the extra mile.1 point

I suppose a picture is worth 1000 words? I've looked at a couple reflex-sights at the LGS, they're slicker than goose-poop! but the magnification is pretty low, which is really the only reason I'm shying away from them.... The hand-guard on it now is just rounded, there are some vents cut into the metal, and a tapped hole on the bottom for a bi-pod (thread on that coming next pay check... LOL!) - K1 point

I wonder how many magnets it would take for one the size of a fireplace mantel?1 point

There was a vendor at the last Knox show selling these. Certainly not inexpensively, I'll take a shot at them in the near future. Helpful hint, if you are using Craftsmen power tools, quit before you start. They are just good enough to piss you off!1 point

I like it, I think I'll take a crack at it. I have been looking at a few concealed cabinets and concealment products but they were either too expensive for what they were, or just would be out of place.1 point

Great idea about the less fancy version. That I might give a try. Now about that project list, if mine gets any longer; I'll need a hundred more years to finish them at my pace.1 point

I've hunted squirrels since I was a young boy, but in the late fall and winter. The trees still have full foliage, which makes it almost impossible to see them... at least it does for these tired old eyes. And, they still have all of the parasites on them. Same with rabbits. I used to always wait until after a hard freeze to hunt them, after the trees had shed their leaves.1 point

Mine have been getting better but still not furniture-making good. I think I'll give it a try though. I mght also make a crude and non-fancy version that will tuck up under my workbench that can drop down once unlocked with a magnet. Just what I needed... another project to add to the pile, lol.1 point

Agreed on all points, Mike. Though not my first choice these days, my second AR (and the oldest, most used AR in my collection) is built with a pre-assembled PTAC upper. It has seen easily over 2k rounds of all kinds of ammo... steel, milsurp, match grade, and even tracers once for fun. Not a hitch yet, except for one hangup with a ratty old thermold mag. I blame the mag for that and threw it away. Accuracy has been great, imho. I just have a red dot on it. Originally a cheapie truglo, I put on a Vortex Sparc II AR on it a couplemonths ago. A buddy and I were at OK Corral sighting it in and I decided to try it at 200yds just for fun. I kept 4 of 5 shots on a 6" shoot 'n see. I couldn't even see that sticker. I just had to cover the sticker with the dot. I don't know what else I could expect from a $200 complete upper. I don't think I'm a good enough shooter that more money spent would gain me anything, either. Sure, I build rifles with different stuff now, but mainly because I want to pick and choose each part. If a PTAC branded barrel were available that met the specs I wanted (length, twist, gas system, finish, etc) for a fair price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.1 point

The AR platform is a funny thing. If you take guns from the three premium "manufacturers" and from PSA, there is a good possibility that the receivers, BCG's and barrels could be from the same manufacturer between the PSA and some or all of the premium rifles. Those parts are all QC'ed by their individual manufacturers. I'm not arguing against the premium brands. I have bought a lot of stuff from DD and BCM. I am just saying at AR parts overall are very good these days. Obviously, there are exceptions. But, it's not difficult, or even expensive to buy MPI tested full auto BCG's from PSA. Barrels? I just hot rodded a PSA upper with a receiver lapping job, BCM free float handguard, and a Geissele trigger. That thing shoots sub MOA with my SMK handloads, and guzzles Wolf ammo like candy. Did I get lucky? Maybe. Not the first time I have seen great accuracy from a cheesy AR1 point

I had planned to get an Orca, but while coming to Rimfire nationals in St Louis, I stopped in Cabelas. I ended up getting a 40qt Cabelas brand. It's also made in the us and was rated number 1 by the F&S reviews. I think I will be happy with it.1 point

I would not hardly call .357 in any length barrel inefficient. I believe one of the most exaggerated facts is that of the .357 magnum loosing energy in a short barrel. I have a 1.87" barrel scandium S&W that is still launching the standard 158 gr magnums over 1100fps. That same 158 gr magnum has always produced 1250fps in a 4" revolver. Remember, the same 158 gr 38 spl load, standard pressure, is right at 800fps which is often not enough velocity to expand. There are a few light 357 magnum loads on the market that I prefer for the j frames. One is the almost non-existent 135 gr Gold Dot. And the other is the readily available 125 gr Golden Sabre. I get a little less than 1000 fps out of a 360 with the Golden Sabre and can stand to shoot more than I can afford. Both of these mimic 9mm performance. So a 2" bbl revolver will be the equivalent of a 3" 9mm auto. My favorite 357 is a pre-lock 3" model 60. I haven't chronographed the Golden Sabres but I think they are about 1100 in the 3" and standard 158 gr magnums are probably 1200 fps.1 point

If you're gonna shoot the crap out of it, and carry it in your truck, or while in the woods cutting down trees, get a Ruger GP100.... If you're going to leave it in the safe and show it off to people at the shooting range, get a S&W.... Both good guns, just depends on how much you want to spend and how pretty of a gun you want.1 point

I think the Feds are just looking for another way to gain more gun controls. I bet half or more of the Feds wanting the law probably smoke it themselves..............jmho1 point

This whole thing is upside down. Free speech isn't free of consequences, EXCEPT by the government. In real life, what you say has consequence. Kaepernick is free to say whatever he wants and everyone else is free to say whatever they want in response. There is no defense for Kaepernick necessary nor should there be condemnation for those who speak against him. Lecturing those who disagree with Kaepernick about free speech etc. is the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black while the pot is filled with arrogant hypocrisy.1 point

That sucks. I went through something similar getting my permit over some forged checks, one of the clerks at the courthouse didn't do their job. It's hard to fix something when nobody will tell you what's wrong finally got it straightened out though. I caught a TBI agent in a decent mood and they gave me a little hint, if not for that I'm not sure what would have happened. Good luck on everything!1 point

If anyone has not mention Knob Creek....I have found a liking for it. Being a person who used to only drink Gentleman Jack and Jack Daniels black label before that. I stopped drinking about 10 years ago. Beer and wine would cause pain in the lower right back. Doctors could not figure it out. Last year one of the Doctors I was seeing suggested alcohol to make the pain killers I was on be more effective. So I deiced to try whisky, which for some reason does not cause any pain. I still keep it to a shot or two every now and then. I fell in love with Buffalo Trace, like Markers Mark, and Woodford Reserve. I like the Knobs Creek the best. I do have a question. Can anyone suggest a favorite Rye. I have been thinking about trying one!1 point

I am pretty sure our Elmer is gone. One bottle left in a hidey whole, I won't sell that one. There is fixing to be a glut of Blanton's. We bought a barrel of it. I assume other stores did as well. I have not taken the time to figure out how many bottles that is but it surely is a shiznit ton more than what has been around lately. I did sell a $1K bottle of Scotch yesterday, dude was totally buying it for his trophy shelf. I gave him a real strong discount to help him out. Boss was happy. It was the highest dollar one bottle sale I have ever made. Yay me!1 point
