  1. Except for a yearly sub to the NY Times for the crosswords, and political and charity donations, TGO is only place on the web I've ever contributed to.   I'd likely do the lifetime thing if I were younger, but I'm hesitant to even buy green bananas any more. ;)   - OS

  2.  You actually got blocked from a thread? I didn't even know we could do that! From now on I'm blocking EVERYONE from all my threads, that way no one can publicly disagree with me which means I am by default always right. ;)

  3. I watch quite a few of his knife videos, because he eventually hits most of the points. With that said, he babbles more than any white man I know. It's like listening to my girlfried tell me about her day.

  4. ...one is for my Grandaddy. It will be under his best suit tomorrow, and I will crack a smile and remember him every time I pull one of the other three out of the drawer. Kind of neat to be able to share one last thing. 93 years old, Army Air Force in WWII, retired firefighter, was a loving husband for 65 years. When my son and I pluck sweet potatoes out of the ground, peel them with my pocket knife, and savor earth and sun, saying, "How sweet it is!", my heart will be full - knowing that my son is going to be at least a little bit like the great grandad that loved us so well.

  9. If Obama gives the order to launch missiles against Syria without Congressional approval I would hope our Military leaders and troops will stand down and refuse. If he tries he should be impeached. We have nothing to gain by lobbing missiles into Syria. It’s reckless and inhumane.

  10. My baby brother just got promoted to Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. I thought long and hard about what to get him to commemorate the occasion and came up with this. The first pic is the Chief Petty Officer's Emblem and the second pic is his rate (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Master Technician). The grips are Hogue Extreme Aluminium in matte black (26160). He carries a P226 for "work" so I thought he would enjoy these grips. The gun is mine for reference. I also need to give a shout out to Joe at Designz By You in Bell Buckle, TN for doing an excellent job on the laser engraving.

  11. There back in late Spring early summer I thought we were not going to have any this year. I always put up one or two feeders early for early travelers passing through going up east. I finally in mid July got two regulars so I put out 3 more feeders and still only had 2 for about two weeks. Now I guess most folks took their feeders down thinking they weren't coming. About 3rd day of August I had about 25 birds fighting over 5 feeders so I put up 3 more for a total of 8 nd now I bet I have 40 to 50 birds buzzing all over m house and yard. I just came in from watching them feeding feuding and fussing and they are really funny to watch. I laugh all the time I am out there sitting and watching. I have to fill the feeders every 2 days since they all have shown up. I sure do enjoy watching them. Does anyone here enjoy feeding and watching them?

  20. American golf humor:   Hank and his buddy Bill were playing a round of golf and were constantly slowed by having to wait on a couple of women playing ahead of them. Finally Hank says, "Man, this is taking too long! I'm gonna' walk up there and ask if we can play through."   Taking off, he gets about half way to the women, stops and takes a long look then comes back to where Bill is waiting. "Geez, what crappy luck!" he says. "I can't go up there - one of those women is my wife and the other is my mistress!"   Bill agrees to go instead and takes off. Reaching the half way point, suddenly he too stops and takes a long look then turns around and heads back. Getting back to his friend, he shrugs and says sheepishly, "Sure is a small world, Hank..."

  22. "Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis.

  23. Farnkly, while it probably puts me in the minority here, I'd rather see those who carry observe TN law as it was intended by the legislature and passed in 1996. That is, not as blanket permission to open carry but as a protection against exactly the sort of thing going on in Florida; that is, attempting to prosecute permitted people for the accidential/unintentional revelation of their carry weapon which in some states can carry serious charges.   However, this thread is not about how one carries but the out of control actions of this one police officer; one that I hope is appropriately punished for his behavior.

  24. Im like OS on this one; it aint about doin the "right thing" RE: the poor dead children in Syria... It's about changin the subject from things at home (...scandals, snooping, insider dealing, no jobs, continuing criticizms, etc...) to a "real threat" thing abroad...  It's more "....how can we fool 'em, or change the subject today....".   leroy

  25. I mowed 5 acres the other day with a 48 inch walk behind.  It only took 6.5 hours and my pedometer said I walked over 9 miles.  I am my fathers son, he loved yard work, farm work or anything that had to do with being outside working.  It's certainly not work when it's by choice and not by force.

  28. I wasn't trying to be an ass and was just hoping it would go on and be forgotten. Not the case. The reason we do this is because it is not fair for our vendors, who support this site in more ways than most know, to have to compete with someone who hasn't even paid a single cent towards supporting this site. We cannot allow this to happen, even once, otherwise this place will get over run with advertising. And think about this, without those who choose to support the site we may not have a place for us all to come together.   The OP of the other thread got a PM explaining the rules and what he, or his boss, can do to help support the site. This will allow him to advertise and in return we will support them. I welcome them in becoming a vendor but until they do they will nto be allowed to advertise.

  34. I finally got all the material/equip to make summer sausage. Between jerky and summer sausage, that's all I make now. Gotta agree with Ruger though, unless you have a large walk in cooler, it's tough to kill in the morning then process enough to get to work on time.

  35. Don't believe Mr Jones was cutting grass though. :) I don't care for lawn work. Can't afford to hire it done though, so I do it. Last quote I got wanted $250/ week to mow and trim. I have a difficult yard, sure. I can do it myself in about two hours though. No way I'm paying that kind of money for someone else to do it.

  40. Yes, a sarcastic letter can and will receive an equal response, but what is interesting most Sheriffs support gun ownership. Why? because they are elected by the "non-city folk" whereas a PD Chief dance to the tune of the "city folk" and hired by Mayors.   Not to knock the state of IL, but their laws appear to be influenced by population density of Chicago and other large metro areas. Poll the folks who live in the country...   Regarding Mr. Ashe: 42 years as an LEO, retired now for how long? When was the last time he was on the beat? Times have changed and I daresay he doesn't accurately represent the sheriff's of TN.   Cut him some slack, racking a shotgun is terrifying to any and all who hear it and causes paralysis and/or "flight"

  41. Well folks, In all reality I see where Russia is coming from and I think this is payback for Afghanistan back in the 70's when we sent arms and trainers to Afghanistan and they Kicked Russia out of that country. Now Russia has a new leader with a long memory since he was back then a commander in the Russian Army that was in Afghanistan when we sent that help in. Putin is not going to back down on this issue and if Obama and our Congress so stupid as to begin WWIII over this then I say we are in deep Sh--t.  Putin is not going to alow the Americans to embarrass him again...........JMHO

  45. Those people amaze me. "If the shtf I'm bugging out to the mountains"... Oh yeah? Newsflash. There are already people living in those mountains. The family land I grew up on and that my parents and sisters still live on has been in the family since the civil war. And if they think those rough as a cob hillbillies like myself and others won't use force to keep you off our land and away from our resources, then they are sadly mistaken. This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but please, if you plan to bug out, make sure you have an exact location in mind, preferably that you own and mantain, but at least have the owners permission and visit it often, or you might be better of bugging in. I'm hunkering down on the land here, and hope to travel to my folks place from time to time after it calms down. But even if your in a suburb, hunkering down under a roof in a neighborhood you know kay be much better than sleeping in a state park or on someone elses land you dont know with the 1k's of others who bugged out, wondering if you might get shot by a land owner or feelow survivor. Tapatalk ate my spelling.

  46. There was so much wrong with what happened both leading up to and during Ruby Ridge that it's too much for a forum post but the whole thing started over Randy Weaver's neighbor being pissed about losing a civil lawsuit and rather than paying the judgment, making completely untrue accusations against Weaver.   Moreover, both the internal 1994 Ruby Ridge Task Force Report and the public 1995 Senate subcommittee report on Ruby Ridge criticized the rules of engagement as unconstitutional. Let's not also forget that the surviving members of the Weaver family filed a wrongful death suit. To avoid trial and a possibly higher settlement, the federal government awarded Randy Weaver a $100,000 settlement and his three daughters $1 million each in August 1995. In the out-of-court settlement, the government did not admit any wrongdoing in the deaths of Sammy and Vicki Weaver.   To put it bluntly, Randy Weaver is not to blame for what happened before or during the siege of Ruby Ridge and anyone who tries in any way to say Randy Weaver was responsible for any of it and/or support the thugs with badges that were there is simply refusing to let the facts get in the way of opinion and wishful thinking - the only people that should be in jail are the thugs with the badges.
