  3. Good grief. “See something, say something” from the Obama administration struck home the other day.   Several of my buds and I followed the thread on body armor closely. As we have been discussing this topic recently, we decided it was time to get serious about obtaining some decent kit. Link: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/77771-body-armor/   We are all involved in the shooting and training communities and take safety seriously. One member of our group is an ER Physician and was looking into Tactical Medicine as well. Tac Teams historically look to Paramedics and ER Physicians as a “best option” for their Team Medics…makes sense to me…   We found a good deal on unlined plates and Condor carriers. We figured, after much discussion and research that we would have the plates coated front and back with LineX, to mitigate the effects of splatter and spalling.     Our bud (the ER Physician…let’s call him “Doc”) and another member of our group went down to Linex to discuss having the plates lined. The price sounded reasonable to us… The timetable for coating front, back and side plates plus thickness, etc were also discussed. No mentions of any restrictions or concerns occurred during the conversation.     The next day “Doc” took the plates into LineX of Knoxville. “Doc” was alone this time. “Doc” said the guys at LineX appeared anxious…”jumpy” were his words…and then told him they would have to contact “corporate” to see if they could actually do, what had been previously discussed, for a private citizen… “Doc” left the plates with the understanding that they would be coated.   A couple of hours later “Doc” received a phone call from Homeland Security. It seems the good folks at LineX Knoxville were concerned enough about the LineX application process being used in nefarious ways that they felt the need to follow the “see something, say something” like good little subjects…err… citizens….   You see, my friend’s skin color isn’t as light as mine… never mind he was born and raised here…has busted his ass getting through medical school and serves his community…he apparently looked suspicious enough to the good old boys at LineX to warrant a “checking out” by Home Land Security…       Well, after a talk with the good man at Homeland security, (and even being offered a reference by said agent to a local Law Enforcement agency to serve as a role in Tactical Medicine with their Tac Team), LineX offered to do the job ASAP.     Really?  Seriously?   This really chapped my rear end… LineX of Knoxville can be “good citizens/subjects” all day long…but they won’t get a penny of our hard earned money.   We here at TGO joke about “being on a list” sometimes…Well LineX of Knoxville can make that a reality for you. I just thought folks should know.   Btw…Corporate was in fact contacted; smoke was blown…   Thanks but no thanks LineX of Knoxville…       edited because of my inability to spell correctly.

  5. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to be a target. However, I have several stickers on the back glass of my vehicle. Some of my stickers are zombie related, some are USMC stickers to honor my son, who's in the Marines, but most are gun related stickers. I enjoy them, they make me happy and they are indicative of who I am. I refuse to hide my personality or beliefs out of fear of ANY kind of retaliation.

  6. I had not seen this photo. No wonder they didn't want them there. I read one report that said that they had just come from a shoot/range and didn't want to leave the guns in the car. When we eat out coming back from a cowboy match we only eat where we can see the truck & one person has "Gun Guard" when everybody else is in the restroom or ordering. Cherokee Slim

  7. The heaviest buffer is almost 1/3 pound and in a game were ounces matter that is a lot. I run a carbine buffer in all my guns, including guns with rifles stocks, and tune the gas to the carbine buffer.   It absolutely is amazing at how much cleaner an AR will run with a properly set gas system.

  12. Fools like this really force an owner's hands. I eat in Chipotle a couple of times a week. At noon, the line in my local Chipotle in Brentwood is generally 30 people deep. I would be willing to bet good money that if Jabba the Hut and his fashionable friend walked in every day at the same time, their lunch sales would be down 30% in a week. Heck, I run a gun forum and I'd consider heading for the door if these two walked in. How are they going to sit and eat with those rifles hanging without muzzle sweeping someone at some point? Duck boots over there may just ND when he trips over his laces. It's ridiculous. They're all but forcing the owner to post to save his revenue stream.

  13. You know, although I don't think it is appropriate in all situations, open carry of a handgun is one thing and I can kind of see that side of the debae.  Strapping on a long gun to go eat a taco is just stupidity, no debate needed.

  17. I have shot several different 1911s and have wanted to own one for quite a while. Now I own one! Para Ordnance Expert Stainless "Para's Expert Stainless is a 45 ACP with a 5" stainless match grade barrel and steel frame & slide. It has a 2-dot combat rear sight with a green fiber optic front sight. Comes with a beavertail grip safety and an adjustable skeletonized trigger. Stainless finish with polymer grips. Comes with two 8-rd magazines." My first choice going in was going to be the Springfield Loaded or RO model based on research. The store did not have the Loaded model, and I did not care for the RO when I held it and really did not care for the adjustable rear sight. I looked at a couple of other 1911s but this Para felt the best in hand and the trigger is very light. The pistol in general and the trigger feel better than my neighbor's $1300 Kimber.... I put 40 rounds through it at the store range before leaving, this thing is accurate! Well at least when I do my part, I rushed some shots and pulled them to the left. It shoots great, I cannot wait to put some more rounds downrange. I bought some bullets/primers today so will get ammo loaded up over the holiday weekend. I need to buy a couple additional mags now. I have a Blackhawk level 2 kydex holster on the way, I do plan to carry this on the times I OC.

  28. This is a service that LineX offers and promotes, check their site, so this shouldn't have been unheard of to have a request for it. If the clerk had said up front that they were going to have Doc checked out and explained why, I doubt there would have been an issue.

  29. I have NRA stickers on my Jeep and a sticker on back glass that says "Gun Control means using both hands" and I never lock my Jeep doors ad most times windows are down at east half way so Mutt can get fresh air. I also don't  do business at any gun free locations so never in a parking lot of one. Also I never leave a firearm in my car. If there is a gun in my car it gets in when I do and gets out when I do. I realize that a lot of folks are forced in some way to do business with businesses or go to places that are gun free but I am not one of them............

  41. Over the last 5 weeks I was fortunate to be able to take a couple of different carbine classes. The first class was a small class and at the end of the day we did a gas system and brake comparison. Hands down the midlength gas system was the most popular.   The brakes were a mixed lot but all of the brakes allowed quicker shot to shot split times.   This past weekend I was able to shoot several of the same carbines (M&P VTAC 2's) with different brakes. I'm not sure how the rest of you judge brakes but for me the main thing is watching where my red dot streaks after a shot. With a fair amount of practice and adjustment of my grip, sling length and stock length I was able to get my aimpoint to streak straight up and down with the original A2 flash hider. This allowed me to better predict what would happen and decrease my shot to shot splits.   This weekend we were able to shoot a battle comp, a Gamma VC6, and a Surefire SOCOM. The battle comp was not bad, it reduced felt recoil and allowed the dot to go straight up. The recoil on the  VC6 felt a little less but pushed the dot down which was a bit disconcerting. Possibly that would be helpful in a full auto or burst situation but it increased my split times a bit. Everyone agreed the SOCOM felt 50% softer. The dot did not move up and down at all but instead moved right to left just a tad (and left to right when we shot left handed). All shooters decreased their split times. To be fair, some of the shooters were very good and their times only decreased a little bit but they all went faster.   I spent the majority of the weekend shooting that brake on my VTAC. It helped across the board except for 25 yard distances. For some reason my groups opened up only at 25 yards. they were fine at 50 yards and anything shorter. I have no rational explanation for the 25 yard issues other than maybe I screwed up the first string and it got in my head for the rest of the weekend. I'm going to try my hardest to get to the range on Wednesday to do some 25 yard work by myself to see if I just goofed or not.   So brakes in general were helpful. I have to admit I was surprised at how much they helped on 5.56 rounds. I knew they helped a lot on 308.   For me, the SOCOM was clearly the best of our admittedly unscientific testing. It will transition on to all my carbines and will also be my suppressor mount of choice.   Mark

  42. Back of the bus, back in the closet, cover it up, no one wants to see that... Yeesh. I get it that these doofuses were just looking for attention, and I certainly believe a business has the right to choose their clientele (from wedding cake bakers to restaurant chains)... But let's not lose focus on the fact that what we all want is acceptance of the individual right to bear arms, etc... So instead of generalized bashing (which accomplishes nothing), we should try to promote RESPONSIBLE activity whether seen or unseen by the general public. These guys were dumb. Let's not react like idiots and stoop to the level of kissing in front of Chik-fil-a over Chipotle's reaction. Also, lets not throw everyone under the bus who doesn't always carry concealed, either; we're not all looking for attention or to make a scene. I suppose we should all cover our NRA or other firearms related shirts/stickers too... Someone might feel threatened... C'mon people, there are ways to go about any style of carry responsibly, it just takes more common sense than the guys on the story had.

  46. I was going to a Mom and Pop restaurant for many years and it was never posted. Then all at once I go there and it is posted. I spoke to the manager and he said that a few of his customers were complaining about seeing customers with guns and it was alarming to them because of their children. I said well I have been eating here for about 10 years and no one has ever seen my gun. He asked me what he could do to keep his business and not lose any customers so I offered him and option. I recommended posting his business as a Concealed Carry only restaurant and see how well that works. Next time I went there the sign read Concealed Carry Only. The place was packed with customers no one knew who was armed and who was not. The manager stopped by my table just after the waitress put my ticket on my table and he picked it up and thanked me as he has been seeing as increase in his business since re-posting and he liked my idea. I think if managers are willing to listen to other alternatives than just posting No Guns it can help both the HCP people and the businesses...........jmho
