  1. The wife stopped by today.  She was gonna pick something I been after, waiting....waiting....waiting, she finally asked the guy behind the counter if this is where you check out.  He said I'll be right with you.  He WAS with another customer after all.  The other customer was 'shopping' and we all know that takes time because men in gun shop are ten times worse than a woman in a show store.  The customer was nice and said, I'm in no hurry, gesturing that he should ring up what she was buying, it would only take a second anyway.  Well, he didn't and she waited, and waited.  NOT the only guy behind the counter mind you.     Finally an older guy made his way across the shop and took care of her.    Maybe I'm making more out of it than I should but it should NOT take 20+++ minutes to buy anything that requires no paperwork.  Especially with multiple employees and more than one cash register.     Here's a bit of business advice for everyone, Paying customers should never wait in a line that doesn't exist.  If you're running a business, you're there to make money, not have a social gathering.  If you currently have more employees than customers on the floor, THERE IS NO WAITING IN LINE.

  2. So far so good, I defleshed the head taking off as much soft tissue as I could get out. Lesson learned, make sure the pot is hot enough. I wasted a few hours bathing it instead of simmering, but it went faster when the heat was turned up. The most difficult area was in the nose cavity, at first I tried to save as much bone as I could but there is so much tissue in there that I finally just pulled out a few of the thinner rollpin looking bones. I was worried about the nose ridge and the roof of his mouth because of how thin they are but they it came out OK. Here is a pic of after the defleshing and one with the peroxide cream doing its thing. Edit: Figured I would add the completed mount

  7. I've stopped in at Royal a few times for accessories and ammo. I've been happy with their prices, selection, and haven't been disappointed in the service. Plus the facility itself is super nice. I did have to wait a few minutes to get some SD ammo, but it wasn't for more than about 5 minutes.   That said, if they are reading TGO, one piece of advice might be to have someone at the register for non-gun purchases. They have a ton of ammo, gear, and accessories. Buying that stuff is more like a regular shopping experience. I want to fill up my basket and go to the cashier and be on my way. I don't really need a personal attendant like when purchasing a firearm. But if I have to wait for a staff member to finish with a firearm sale, that does kind of slow down an otherwise straight-forward transaction.

  10.   Well I guess we can count on them never advertising on TGO since they can count on us to use the power of the Internet to slam them for taking care of one customer instead of taking care of another customer.   I mean, after all it doesn't sound like they were socializing and just ignoring you.  It sounds like they had a customer at the counter, no matter if the other customer told them to go ahead or not.   Guns aren't low-dollar sales.  Walking away from a customer on the cusp of making a large purchase can give that customer all the opportunity he or she needs to embrace indecision, talk themselves out of it, and take their money somewhere else.  Ask anyone who works on commission and they'll tell you that you don't do that.   I think as consumers we've all become pretty damn whiney.  We expect instant service, unlimited selections, and for retailers to kiss our butts while making shoestring margins, and there's hell to pay for a company's reputation on the Internet if they don't deliver all of it with a smile in 30-minutes or less.   For what it's worth, I have spoken with Royal Range recently about becoming an advertiser on TGO.  We really need advertisers.  We don't have near as many now as we once did and that really cuts into our operating capital.  I'm sure if they read this thread, it'll weigh into their decision to support TGO.  Any why the heck shouldn't it?

  11. I think imported guns have the best chance of increasing in value and becoming collectible, like Saiga 12s and AKM variants.  An import ban one day is a very real possibility. It's already been done with China, and history repeats itself you can count on that.  There will be more American-made AKMs as the supply of the foreign ones becomes finite, and the foreign AKs will command a premium.

If they go deer hunting and don't kill a deer they will look for other stuff just to kill something. I'm all for hunting for food, and I'm ok with trophy hunting big game. But killing just to kill is sadistic and wasteful. Sent from behind the anvil

  15.   You didn't address any of the things I brought up in the post you quoted.  You simply defaulted to "I just think you're wrong because (enter irrational emotion here)".   First, how can you reconcile your statement regarding suspicious behavior being subjective just after you say in your "opinion" the behavior isn't worth reporting?  If it's subjective like you say, then some folks find certain indicators more suspicious than you do.  That doesn't make them bad or as you stated, "snitches".  I wish there were more "snitches" that came forward regarding the over 20 hijackers involved on 9/11.  There were some, but there wasn't enough coordination between intelligence agencies, nor were there enough "snitches" that came forward to help put the pieces of the puzzle together.  There were plenty of people after 9/11 who had contact with the terrorists who believed something was amiss.  Like you, they didn't want to be "snitches".   I wish there were more "snitches" prior to the massacre in San Bernardino.  As this investigation progresses, I can assure you it will come out that there were many people who had concerns, but failed to report for reasons you cited.  You've yet to develop a cogent argument regarding "snitching" being more harmful to the safety, security, or rights of American citizens than keeping your mouth shut and minding your own business.  Simply stating that "we can't trust the government no matter what, because they will develop their own narrative (paraphrase)" is absolutely ridiculous.  Just because the possibility exists that they could do that, or even that they have in some cases, is not a viable argument against reporting something suspicious.  It just isn't, and you're being obtuse regarding that, as is exampled by your failure to address any of the points in my previous post and retorting by comparing me to a "crabby old grandma" and stating that if I don't believe your nonsense that I am "lying to myself".  That isn't a rational nor fact based response to my points.  It's simply a display of your intellectual dishonesty.

  20. https://www.nraila.org/articles/20151211/gun-control-supporters-unhinged-new-republic-says-ban-guns-all-of-them     Inspired by last week’s New York Times front-page editorial calling for the confiscation of “large categories of weapons and ammunition,” a new article in the progressive-agenda magazine, New Republic, says that banning only some guns, but not all, is not enough. “It’s time to ban guns. Yes, all of them. . . . Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police. . . . Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them.” Objectionable though they are, there’s nothing new about the Times’ and New Republics’ anti-gun opinions per se, however. It’s not news that some gun control supporters want all guns banned. It’s been that way for years. The difference is, gun control supporters used to pretend they were interested only in “reasonable” and “commonsense” gun control restrictions. Now they are telling everyone what they have always really wanted. Things sure have changed. Consider the difference in the tactics of Democrat presidential candidates over the last several elections. When they were running for president, Bill Clinton, John Kerry and even Barack Obama tried to assuage voters’ concerns about their positions on guns by posing for photographs holding shotguns. In 2008, Hillary Clinton did the same sort of thing in her run for the Democratic presidential nomination. CNN reported Clinton saying at the time, “You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl.” But running for the Democrat nomination today, Clinton says that gun control opponents are like terrorists and shouldn’t be allowed to have their opinions. Asked during a debate with fellow Democrat candidates “which enemy are you most proud of,” Clinton responded, “the NRA,” along with “Republicans” and several others. Time magazine notes, Clinton is “calling for a ‘national movement’ to ‘stand up to the NRA’ and lambasting Republicans for voting against gun control legislation.” It quotes Clinton saying, “What is wrong with us, that we cannot stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby, and the gun manufacturers they represent? We need to act and we need to build a movement.” It’s easy to see how things have changed. But why have they changed? For one thing, since his reelection, President Obama has dropped his pro-gun pretenses, coming out strongly for banning “assault weapons” and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, requiring background checks on private sales, and banning the purchase of firearms by anyone on secret government lists.  Where an anti-gun president will go, his anti-gun adherents will certainly follow. However, Time says the reason for the change in anti-gun tactics is even bigger than that. “The Democratic Party at large has shifted,” it says. Moreover, “gun control advocates are more organized and better-funded than at any time in at least the last two decades. Groups such as Everytown for Gun Safety, bankrolled by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, and Americans for Responsible Solutions, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ super PAC, are spending millions to counteract the NRA.” Anti-gun college professor Adam Winkler adds, “Democrats are starting to believe that a strong statement on gun control will motivate the [Democrat] base.” Apparently, gun control supporters think this is their time in history, that they have the momentum, and that their victory is inevitable. Then again, something on the order of 100 million American adults, living in just under half of American households, own well over 300 million guns, including well over 100 million handguns and easily well over 10 million detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles, such as the AR-15, which gun control supporters call “assault weapons.” And FBI data indicate that the annual number of gun purchases has been greater during the last four years than ever before. If gun control supporters are unhinged now, imagine the state they will be in if that many gun owners come together to defeat Hillary Clinton and awake them from their anti-gun dreams on Election Day 2016.

  21. Wanted to commend Mark and the other safety officers that worked the match at yesterday's IDPA match at Gallatin Gun Club. Yesterday was a great shoot and it is a pleasure to be associated with folks that truly go out of their way to promote this sport and take their time to bring new shooters into it. For those of you that don't know, there was a very new shooter that showed up a little late and made their way over to join my group. While we were all happy to have a new shooter participate with us, Mark joined up with a couple of other experienced shooters and broke off from our original group in order to be able to provide more one on one explanation and instruction to the new shooter. I had to leave immediately after I got finished up and didn't have the opportunity to speak to the shooter and the others in her group, but I'm certain they had a great experience.

  31. Thanks folks. Latest update: the cath showed no new damage (had 3 stents put in this spring) they think, but they don't quite know how long he was out. They'll stop the sedation in the morning and begin running more tests. There is a real chance of serious brain damage, etc. Mom has friends down in Miami with her, and her brother, who is a retired heart surgeon himself, is staying at the house with her. We had a good talk a bit ago and she told me to stay here for now.

  32.   I'm simply saying there's no reason why profiling isn't a viable tool.  Monitoring suspicious purchases is just part of that.  If you don't farm and buy a ton of high-nitrogen content fertilizer, you already get a little extra attention.  If you buy a ton of Sudafed, you get a little extra attention.  If you buy 60 cell phones and don't have 59 other people in your immediate family, you should get a little extra attention.   I'm not saying we give up freedoms for security.  I'm saying we use our goddamned heads as a society and stop being so paralyzed by political correctness that we don't report when a Muslim next door starts stockpiling IED components.

  42.   Sure there is. Ahmed runs a news-stand in Columbia, MO where he also sells pre-paid phones. He was in Wally World picking up some chicken, long-underwear, and a tire iron (because you know....it's Wal-Mart) and noticed they have a killer deal on prepaid phones. I'm talking 20% below his own costs. Why? Who knows. Maybe Wally is discontinuing that model. Maybe some bean counter in Benton wants to clear out that 18" of shelf space. Either way, Ahmed just stumbled onto a gold mine. He knows he can make a big profit on each one at his news stand. So he buys all they have.   Next thing he does is call his brother, Mahmud who runs a news stand in Saint Louis (hey...it's the family business) to tell him to check his local Wal-Mart. He does, and finds 40 in stock there at the same low low price so he buys them all. Meanwhile, Ahmed drove 15 miles away to another Wal-Mart and picks up all they have. When he gets home, he hops on the ImmigrantsRunningSmallBusinesses.com forum and shares the tale of his good fortune. Some other guys who also run businesses that sell repaid phones run out and clear out their Wal-Mart stores. Things are looking great...then Homeland Security shows up.         Now....re-read that story but change the names to Ed and Frank, the website to TGO, and change it from cell-phones to that dirt-cheap Perfecta .308 and 9mm we were jizzng in our pants about back in May. Then tell me you feel the same way.   I'm not saying that's what happened. I'm just saying that I can see how this could have been completely legitimate. Was it? I have no idea.

I think the police should have held them until FBI or Homeland Security could check these men out. Now that they know people are watching for things if these guys do have ugly plans they will probably speed their plans before anyone higher up can investigate them.......jmho
